Woah! You finished your first 500 in 18 strokes and your last 500 in 10 strokes. You weren’t kidding when you said you were going a little too fast haha. Awesome work as always.
Another really interesting video! Do you always suggest using the first 10 strokes as going hard before gradually reducing the speed/ intensity. I’m thinking ATP stores will be used in the first 5-15 seconds, so is that the rationale behind the 10 strokes, before your body changes its energy system to glycolysis, then oxidative later in the 2K?
That is the general thought, get the fan up to speed using ATP then switch over, most people I know would take 3-7 big strokes, 10 is really on the upper end but it all depends on how big you're pulling them I guess. Trial and error with what works for each person - if I do more than 5 I feel like I'm then playing energy catch-up from the start.
There is science backing that you have very small energy strores that are used up very quickly at the start of the race so that is the idea with the bigger strokes at the start but I think it can be really personal how long you stay high for. If you look at the 543 2k analysis I did, Alex did 40s high which is so long I feel but each to their own! #yamsquad
On course for an 11 hour 2k!! Straight gains. 🍠
Gotta love Buchan during quarantine.
Thank you for taking time to explain your theories and methods. It's great to see you experimenting different tactics.
Amazing discussion! Thank you so much for sharing your insight and experience, it’s really helpful!
As the saying goes, « in the first 1k don’t be an idiot, in the second 1k don’t be a whimp » (is that a word?)

They went by so fast! #yamsquad
Study and specificity. Good stuff, what you gotta do if you wanna sharpen a specific performance.
