    It's been 5 months since I started to actually train my voice and it's gotten so much more better all thanks to *you* and ken tamplin! I couldn't go about an E4 before but now I can do a Bb6 (in falsetto and whistle register) but my chest voice can't still go very high only to an A4 (now I know it was pulled chest) and don't have a mix at all this video just made me sing easily about a G4! thank you so much for this video! hope you keep doing the AWESOME work!

    I just had my first voice lesson in like 10 years (and before that, I wasn’t a consistent student, so basically my first vocal lesson as a real singer 😂) and the one issue I wanted to address with the coach was how (what I’ve always called) my mix was tiring me out. Every time I do a set which includes many “mixed voice” songs, I become exhausted and experience some strain and fatigue in my voice. She heard me sing and was able to point out almost immediately that I was pulling my chest voice up, and not actually using my mix! Mystery solved, and now I’m watching every video I can explaining this. I am a professional singer and have worked as a voice instructor for a year 😂 this NEVER dawned on me. Thank you for this content!

    I am 14 and I have a very developed chest voice
    However, my headvoice is a mess
    But still I can use my mixed voice
    E4 to G4 consistently
    It takes me around 30 mins of warm up before I can mix up to C5
    My problem is I've been struggling alot in closed vowels
    So what happens when I sing is I switch form my mix and chest wheneve there are phrasings ( high notes ) in the song

    I'm 15, I use pulled chest in my choir class since my regular voice is too weak with the way i currently belt and my head voice and mixed voice is weak in the 4th octave area (mostly bc im nervous). It usually ends up with me fatiguing because there's too much pressure on my voice and it's making me reconsider doing choir next year 😭😭

  • @Imhonestlyhim
    @Imhonestlyhim 8 месяцев назад +2

    I don’t know if I’m pulling chest, or if I have a chesty mix. I’m able to add vibrato, and go higher without any physical pain. But I know I’m straining past a A4 but I’m a male and it’s not uncommon. However it never feels like I’m adding too much pressure, but I can tell I’m adding pressure.

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  8 месяцев назад +1

      It's hard to know for sure without me listening to what you are doing. But, generally speaking, if you think you are pulling, you likely are...and a good tenor can sound pretty good doing it...but around A or Bb4 it will crack or shift abruptly. You may save a lot of time by taking some lessons. They definitely helped me.

    My question would be how do you translate this to singing a song? Normally when I sing I get up to B3-C4 and then I cant go higher up without pulling my chest. But I can do th "Ah" exercise you demonstrated and get up to G4 without raising my larynx or straining.

      I don't know but I had this problem all my life until I started following Chuck's advice. Now all of a sudden I can sing any note I want. It took 6 months to settle in my brain what he is saying. In other words do not be afraid just to sing in what you think is falsetto and just add a little of the head resonance and stretch the notes in a healthy way. ( It helps if you have a huge cavity in the head like me! ha, Ha!) Do not use vocal chords to get higher. It will rip them. Just go smooth and support with your diaphragm but for that u you need to do some core exercises. Hang upside down and do back ups and sit ups against the gravity!

      @@PowerToSing stylistically appropriate vocals and a more advanced technique , i guess. Mixing is fine and should be encouraged, but that isn’t all that artists of most genres do. They pull chest too. It’s pretty clear. You can do it properly without it sounding bad or hurting. It’s hard for sure, but what’s wrong with that? Will it not get easier? Pulling chest voice higher makes the whole voice more robust over time, if you’re not an idiot about it. There’s a level of epic-ness that can’t be achieved with mixing alone. If pulling chest is your only option to sing higher, however... That’s a problem, obviously. You need your mix developed.
      There are a number of vocal coaches with voices that sound the way we want to sound. They don’t condemn this practice because they have noticed that mixing isn’t the whole story. They have educated themselves and given it the time it needs and succeeded. Try Gregory West.

    • @PowerToSing

      @@petersoar2886 Thanks Peter. In the end, it is really what you prefer to listen to, isn't it. And if everyone was careful, there might be no long term cord damage because of pulling chest. Unfortunately, many singers aren't as careful as you and end up with nodules or hemorrhages and surgery. Or, with very shortened careers because the voice is worn out. I do think the commitment to mix is worth the effort...although it takes more dedication. Singers like Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder, managed to develop their mix and use it with power and enjoy long careers.
