its amazing isnt it, im from the uk and i think its great that a country the size of ireland at least makes an effort to do their bit in international conflict and have an army while its not exactly the scale of the uk MoD its still a hell of an effort to make a force as a small country il tell u we should make that sort of effort

I would love to join. I doubt I'd be fit enough though. Plus I'm 24 so I'd have less than a year to get fit. I asked before and they said I could only do a cadetship. I'd love too do general service.

And don't forget the Danes ! cause for a small country they send a hell of a lot of their boys to the worlds hot spots eg, Basra Iraq, Helmand province Afghanistan )
Its a pity that us Welsh don't get recognised as well cause We're clumped under " British " along with the Scots. ( no offence to the English ) Well done Ireland your showing what a small independent nation can do ! Go Celtic Tigers (Hope you get safely home to Éire )

@jonathanbain14 The Irish army,as small as it is, is probably the most skilled ( the ARW that is) than any other army brigade in the world.Probably because they are constantly training and the fact that the average yearly acceptance rate is 0.8 persons.

Great post. thanks. PDF need to be recognised. and it looked like a riot, but more like a larger unarmed uprising. "barrage of missiles"

The name of a country or who Governs it is not the concern of the peacekeeper on the ground. He is there because defenceless civilians are getting hurt doesn't matter if there Albanian or Serbian. If your Serbian then you should be thankful as in this case we were protecting you.

Stationing of NATO for protect Albanians and Serbs in this situation is needful, agree -but it one thing. Second is Allied Force operation.
We should shame for spring ’99 in Kosovo. We should shame for all bombings in Serbia, for all killed civilians, for destroyed their natural environment by uranium for many further years and all barbarity there - what the most developed countries of Europe and US did at the end of XX under the aegis of ‘human rights’. So for what they should be thankful us?

The Sniper's were NOT ARW. A sniper can come from nearly all Units from the Army, but Mostly Infantry/Cav/Arty.

@MrLeggy11 I'm Irish although long gone as it were. I am proud of the way those Irish guys do their job, you can see in the body language and way they talk. I don't however want to see them dropped into Afgpak/Iraq to take the heat that the Yanks have created, then we'll see deaths. I know Ireland is part of ISAF, just don't know to what extent.

@CycleGranCanaria man Im a yank, and look I really dont like the fact that when one country is in a war other countries have to help. I respect your military and think its a great example of well disciplined troops. As far as Afghanistan goes, Al Qaeda started that war on 9/11. And Iraq is about over so I wouldnt worry about that.

  • @anonomous79

No it wasn't combat it was just a riot, and the snipers are not ARW.
