"Nothing abnormal besides the whole landing gear issue". - Understatement of the century.
Just have to love that statement
If anyone is wondering Pranas is currently working as First Officer for Cargolux Airlines
Pranas - great video once again! Thanks for all your efforts to bring us into the cockpit to show us how it’s done.
Alternate title: "How to crash a plane and survive."
No he did everything he needed to do to survive a crash
Pranas is a great pilot
He is now a 747 pilot on cargo delux
At the end, Pranas forgot to remove headphones and just thrust them off his ahead into the cockpit. Anyways, I actually fond this entertaining. I like how everything goes bonkers when you shut the engines down. I watch this everyday.
So funny when people throw bad comments... as if anyone could perform this. Good job man!!!
This was very interesting to see. Regardless it is a simulator and you can land on your keisters and come out alive, it is in some way comforting to see the preparations for a scenario like this. (Which I hope I never will have to face).
Good work, Pranas!

when i hear that im boarding max8
After the second turn of the landing gear gravity extension lever, there are no possibilities to restow the l/g doors. For that reason, pilots should expect a decrease in climb performance in the event of a go around even after resetting gears' normal operations (assuming no mechanical damage). In addition, nose wheel steering is inhibited. The doosr don't significantly affect a belly landing. He has performed the correct procedure ;)
Thanks for all...good stuff...always a good refresher.
Great well done procedure.
Here after PIA 8303 crash, when the landing gear did not go down, and the pilot attempted to land, scraped and damaged the engine, went for a go-around, and crashed on top of a residential area....
I don't think they followed this checklist 😯😕
I guess he was all concentrated to recover from stall caused with high rate of descent while trying to descend from more than 5000 feet *(instead of 3000 feet as per SOP) for landing. May be he didn't realize that there was a malfunction with the landing gears but no one at Control Tower noticed and informed him either :(
@@Nico.584 You can hear ATC ask "Confirm, you'll attempt a belly landing?" Just before the pilot declared mayday. I'm pretty sure ATC was aware of of the landing gear malfunction. It could be that the captain tried using g-force to try and force the landing gear out. Also, you can hear the master caution warning going off in the background when the pilot was talking. If I'm not mistaken, that was a landing gear warning the same as in this video at 10:49. We don't know exactly what happened, so I'm just guessing.
@@ZunarZulfiqar they asked because on the first landing attempt the plane landed on belly as the gears failed to retract, they must have thought that the plane still has the same issue along with failed engines. Only pilot knew that he was able to retract the gears later on (as can be seen in video clip) but since he already had a more serious issue to deal with (failed engines) he didn't inform the control tower about it. If you listen to the audio the pilot doesn't say anything in response to their question about belly landing
My guess, only that I'm no pilot, is that the spoilers mainly work by dumping the lift from the wings by disrupting the airflow to provide maximum weight and therefore traction to the wheels. Since in this case we have no wheels, having additional control over the attitude of the plane for as long as possible would be far preferable.
I did this with the 737NGX (ofcourse with the 737NG QRH) And i learned alot by watching and know more about the switches i never used before! :D
I love your videos!
Love your Videos.
as always excellent
Love this stuff
Amazing very educational thank you
Excellent landing
This is EXACTLY what the PK8303 pilots should have done. But they decided to go around instead after scraping the engines on the runway after the initial touchdown with the gear up.
Hi Pranas.Your teaching method is fantastic. Please will you upload video about normal takeoff and landing.
So nice.
Love it!
Very nice!!!!
To avoid any fire I shut down both engines just before touchdown. Nothing was turning the generators, so the power went out; we only had limited power from the batteries.
Awesome ...
This landing was more berserk than normal because you left the gear doors open. That is some scraping done!
Good job
Nice. I love this video. I think I requested this video on the 737 version, I think I don't remember.
verry Nice video , Nice job man
Great!
Pranas followed the correct procedure. The gear lever has no effect on the landing gear doors after a gravity extension as they're unlock permanently, so it wouldn't work.
well done!! interesting to see the complexity of these systems. Flying by air is still safer than being in an automobile!
Flying by air… are you serious? Can someone fly by other means?
PHILLIP MC KIE flying by space maybe :o
PHILLIP MC KIE I fly by wire. But, it's on the ground.
If your plane goes down to the water, you’re dead. But with automobile, when you crash, you can still call medic (if you’re still alive)
Please can you do a video on how you calculate your takeoff performance
very nice, good job :)
Currently binge watching the channel. Anyone else?
Pranas is still excellent as always
They would not deploy due to the hydraulic loss of pressure (it takes a while), but because they wouldn't obviously recieve any signal of the main landing gear struts compression by the LGCIU.
Excellent!!! Please more videos. :)
Very realistic!
Awesome! :)
nice work, captain :))
Thank you :)
No, the cockpits are slightly different. Bigger windows and general cockpit area. Different layout of landing gear indicator lights. Different standby instruments and different thrust levers.
Ben Kolbeck this is an old model
That is cool.
I noticed on the ECAM wheels page the landing gear doors are down. Would it make for a safer gears stuck up landing to put the gear lever up to attempt to shut the doors before doing a belly landing?
What a chance !
I got a question: when the lgciu1+2 fault, so there’s no indication of the L/G, so I use gravity extension, in that case, I cannot sure if my gears are locked, so do I have to do the abnormal gear landing checklist?
Good Job! I would feel very comfortable with you as my pilot.
i was suprised the emergency checklist saaid to still come in at a slight angle- 6 degrees pos I believe? - how likely would this be in reality to have snapped the plane in half? Fantastic video though, love these
Any reply?
When the plane first makes contact with the tail down, most of its weight is still being carried by the lift of the wings, so contact is not as bad at first. When the plane settles, most of the landing stress is going to be carried by the engine nacelles and the wing roots, which usually have more structural reinforcement-they're carrying most of the stresses from thrust and lift forces, respectively, in normal flight. If you came in flat or with the nose down, then most of the landing force is going to be pressed against the nose, caving it in and risking more damage/death. Plus, in all cases, you want to contact the runway with as little vertical speed as possible, which you can only do with a nose-up attitude anyways.
Is it better to land on something like maybe a corn field if possible as it offers some buffer? Just a thought.
You are the noss man
And...after a gravity extension, how do you think to retract landing gear doors?
When you turn on the RAM air, I'm assuming this is not the RAT, but the RAM scoop for AC? If I'm right, why would you need it on? If I'm wrong wouldn't the RAT get destroyed?
why can you not use spoilers to create extra drag since you do not have gear and why can you not use spoilers after touchdown in landgear emergency does anyone know
ok. :)
i'm no pilot, so i have no idea what i'm talking about. thanks for correcting me + adding to my knowledge. :)
Awesome! Airbus s2
Nice :D
why not move the plane from side to side to help with the gravity extension
Really cool!
But, this landing actually doesn't seem very realistic. The plane stops way too quickly. From touch down to a complete stop takes just about 14 seconds.
Aluminium against asfalt/concrete have much lower friction than rubber (tires) against asfalt/concrete. Just search for "belly landing" at RUclips and watch videos of real ones - the plane just keeps sliding "for ages" before it finally comes to a stop (a lot slower than in a normal landing).
I didn't saw at fist there is a video cut during the "braking" - but it still looks like it slows down very fast (wich caught my attension). Also there is another video of the same thing with a B737 where there is a tree line at the side of the runway. That realy shows the very short stopping distance (even tho the video is cut)
Yeah, there is less friction, but there is a larger surface area on the belly of the aircraft compared to the small tread of the tires, which would create more friction. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Why should spoilers not be used at a belly landing? Wouldn't they help you slow down the plane?
Ok, that is simple. First, spoilers during no landing gear landings are a little dangerous, thats because a pilot doesnt want the plane to exert more force against the ground and to reduce drag against the ground, and to reduce damage and danger, even the QRH says so. And second, EVEN IF the pilot arms the spoilers, they wont deploy after touchdown, becasue as you saw, he shut down BOTH engines before touchdown, so the spoilers wont deploy because of lack of engine hydrolic power. reply please
I'm not a pilot, but I thought for gear-up landing you are supposed to try to make a few attempts at the runway to see if the gear fall down by gravity before you give up?
I dont wanna sound dumb, but a belly landing happens when they landing gear fails to deploy right?
Would it be easier to pitch up with the joystick, or with the yoke?
I've tried a joystick before, but notice that my hand gets cramped when pitching at rotation speed or flaring
It is a sidestick
Silly question here, would'nt you at least cycle the gear lever at least once just to be certain before belly landing?
And #2 would it not be somewhat smoother to at least try to close the l/g doors before the crunching?
1. Cycling the landing gear lever would not do much good in this scenario, since if the wheels are unlocked but not dropping, there's likely some kind of physical blockage going on.
2. Once the landing gear doors are unlocked via emergency gear extension, they can only be closed again after maintenance, since they're likely completely disconnected from the main gear extension/retraction mechanisms as a result. Typically, if the emergency gear extension is working properly, the doors are unlocked, the gear up-locks are released, and gravity forces the gear out of their wells and pushes the doors open.
Hey boy you will be a successful pilot
What´s the name of the music at the End ? ( 12:50 - 13:12)
I have one question: you said that you need to change your CG by moving the passengers in a rear of the plane. Why you do not change your CG by pitch trim wheel?
Moving the pitch does nothing with the C.G at all...
Why did you not dump some fuel before landing?
Would you make an attempt to dump fuel before attempting the landing or maybe we are assuming fuel is already low since we are approaching our destination?
Paul Talbott a320 is not equipped with fuel dump features. But pilots do burn off some fuel by circling in order to land with lower weight.
Why single pilot ops?
Big boss
Would someone please tell me what the black and white things on itther side of the throttle
Thank you
Why no Speedbrakes?? LOT B 767 Warschau did made speed brakes!
You're welcome :)
Is Pranas not yet flying in airlines? A320 training only takes 6 months
why do the systems shut down?
can u make the engine fail with gear plz
Shouldn't you have set the gear lever to up before landing so at least the gear bay doors don't snap off? Oh well, I guess it doesn't matter since the aircraft sustains heavy damage anyway.
i like pranas
I dont understand why do you land with the Gear Doors open.. or maybe im wrong i dont know?!?
hahaha, i just laughted at landing part
so exciting
i would of thought that you might have dumped the fuel before final approach to reduce fire explosion. or am i wrong
a320s, 737s etc and other small aircraft arent equipped with fuel dumping bc even at full fuel their weight is relatively acceptable and within limits to land... obv they do fly around to burn as much fuel as possible bc the less weight the better
Please show dark and cold start in a380
amazing rock hell yes!
Nick Aviation' s Same thing ya idiot
Pranas, thank you all ure videos are great!!! one questions...anserw me please short and exactly!!! - Boeing or Airbus... ???
+Power It's an Airbus A320
+Kevin Kokalari i mean wich better ..?))
There is no reason to compare as both do the same and both make good planes. Both did major technological innovations. Boeing made a successful airliner first but airbus did the fly by wire and other innovative technologies first so both are just equal.
+Power Well Its up to the pilots. Both companies are different. Boeing planes are more "manual" and mechanical and let the the pilot correct mistakes while the airbus is usually simpler to start and has smarter flight computers and auto-pilot and the computer correct a pilots mistake, but if there is a fault in the computers, the airplane can make corrections that are not needed like in the Quantas a330 flight in 2009. I've heard that it's harder to fly an airbus because the controll stick is very sensetiv if you compare to the classic yoke of the Boeing planes.
i think its better to skid on the runway then on the grass..if you land on the grass the plane would dig in and tumble or flip.just my thought.
He tried to lower them manually but he never made any descents / attempts at landing to get them down with gravity.
Hi
Why didn't you consider dumping the +6000kg of fuel on board before belly landing on the central fuel tank?
Ali Rahimy I don't think you can on an a320.
Ali Rahimy you can't dump fuel on a got damn a320
Hmm, I guess so. Will recovering the plane me hard?
Not possible, there's no fuel dump system. You fly in circles to burn off as much as possible before landing.
best =)
Hy I wonder if you can do I video with an a330 thanks
They would probably have to build a new SIM 😅
Isn't there a Emergency Gear Extension on the A320?
Niklas Soh I think you mean QRH. Quick Reference Handbook
Did you just LAND with landing gear DOORs Open ????? Whyyyy ?
Mohammad Abdullah it cant be closed
That's good awesome, now land the plane flip upside down
Pranus what happens if the joystick fails
Shardul Limaye you fly by autopilot and make a cat 3 landing
Rudder pedals and trim wheel. They did a video on it.
PRANAS ... WHATS HIS FULL NAME......
