Passenger: mayday mayday mayday both pilots are dead and im a passenger ATC: ok what is your experience with aircraft? Passenger: well i watched a video on youtube about what to do ATC: oh boy
If you were ever in this position of being on a pilotless 737, you would NEVER, EVER tell anyone that your experience is that of having watched a RUclips video. Otherwise, everyone on the plane would just say, "oh, shit", we're all gonna die".
I think the first step should be, announce to the passengers that "ONE of the pilot is feeling ill. If there's anyone onboard with piloting experience please walk to the cockpit to assist the co-pilot." That way you cause no crazy panic, and at least you'll have the chance to know whether a pilot was a passenger. Just sayin
Placid Mindzz I would honestly say something like: “This is the captain I would like everyone to remain calm, we are going to do an emergency landing. Please sit down and fasten your seat belt. If you need assistance please ask a flight attendant. Please remain seated.”
Everytime I fly, The evil simmer side of me wishes the pilots fall unconscious and the crew asks the passengers for “anyone who can fly” and I’m the only one😈
"It's not gonna fall out of the sky" - It takes a lot of effort to stall a 737, even as a non-pilot trying to stall it. Shut off both engines, and you'll still struggle actually stalling it. It's a beautiful glider.
the conversation would be more like: "press the button? which one? there are like 10000 buttons here!!! fuuuuck, ooh shit, what should I do??! we gonna die!!!"
If there is somebody on the controlls who hasn't any flight experience, it would be a complete suicide to try a manual landing. The only opportunity is, to have an airport with an ILS-CATII/III. So a type-rateted pilot can teach the guy in the cockpit via ATC, which input he or she has to give the autopilot-system to perform an autoland. Thats the only way with a real surviving-chance.
It definely would not be safe but it would not be necessarily impossible. The right thing to do is too use ILS Cat 3 autoland. Though, not all airports have Cat 3 ILS. If I am on a isolated area, flying to an airport equipped with Cat 3, especially if we don't have enough fuel would be unviable.
I still think you should have done an ILS and autoland, that would be a more realistic scenario especially if it's the type of autoland system that will keep the aircraft on the centerline of the runway, The 737 pilot in the tower would most likely have you set the auto brakes.
+Flightbudy2channel we tried the auto land on a flight safety simulator of a hawker 4000. we did land but it was a multi million dollar grass mower. Was that the sim or the plane we had no idea.

The call sign "Janet" brings back fond memories. I remember hearing Janet daily on the radio whenever we were in the Las Vegas and Nellis AFB airspace. It was 1985 and I was flying a B-727 for Key Airlines (which is long gone). We and EG&G, a defense contractor, both flew from Las Vegas McCarran and Nellis AFB to Area 51 and back all day long. We were top secret air taxi services, and to this day I can't say anything more about that! EG&G painted their B-737-200s white with red trim, as in this video. They were definitely the "good old days." I think EG&G is still providing the same services, though their company may have a different name today. I'd be interested in hearing comments from anyone who knows more about them, and even about what happened to Key Airlines as in who bought them. Key was mostly a stepping stone to the more well known airlines, and most of us were simply building "jet time" or turbojet flying experience so we would qualify for the major airlines. So, like most young and ambitious pilots, I spent a fantastic year at Key and then was off to a major airline.
if youre gonna do "editions" then you gotta do a "like a boss passenger edition" when he lands the plane grabs a beer and does a touchdown celebration after he chugs the beer going down the inflatable ramp
In this situation, I, personally, would be doing everything I possibly could to try and revive the pilots, especially if the plane is not in immediate danger. Also, you could do an entire series with this video as the base but with a ton of different scenarios. "How to land a plane if..." The rudder, elevator, engines, ailerons, or power is out, it's raining or snowing, the radios are down, the landing gear is stuck, the cabin has depressurized, or the power is out at the airport.
Cracking video. My best friend is a pilot flying these type of aircraft, and he's always saying how much autopilot can actually do, and how likely someone who has no experience is to survive something like this. This video is cracking and I agree with others that this should be available onboard aircraft. In fact, it'd be better if each aircraft type had a basic instruction manual for this exact situation.
Sorry, but IRL you'd definitely have the passenger fly an autoland with autobrakes set. You probably wouldn't bother trying to get them to use thrust reversers either. Also, if you did have to disconnect the AP, you'd do it by pressing the AP disc button on the yoke, and again to silence it (rather than once on the CMD pushbutton and then on the annunciator to cancel).
Funny to use "Janet" as a callsign, and a red-striped aircraft. Janet Airlines, with a red stripe like this one painted on the aircrafts, operates a route from McCarran Intl. Airport (Las Vegas) to Groom Lake Airbase (aka Area 51) and eventually other sections of Nellis AFB. Is this a coincidence?

Oh, this video is a little bit misleading. Within 10 minutes of saying "Mayday! I'm a passenger flying the plane", you will see two F16's on either side of your airplane. Be nice and wave to them showing your good intentions. Within the next 40-90 seconds minutes you will feel a slight jolt and then total darkness - that's the AMRAAM missiles the F16 pilots fired hit your airplane and you died. Rest assured that your country will not forget your heroic attempt. Your wife and children will be detained by one of the many government agencies and tortured to death. Then your parents and all other relatives. Until the ALL government agencies make sure you were not a terrorist and they were not your accomplices. They will of course report on TV that you (and they) were. On a side note, would you be laughing and posting smileys if the name of this video was: هبوط طائرة بوينغ 737
I got to do this exact thing although it was a hawker horizon (60 foot wing span). I had never thought about the delay in the controls and over compensation when the plane didn't move as fast as I wanted. The guy in the back decided to have some fun with me and turned on thunder, hail, wind shear. I was going into Fairbanks Alaska (difficult airport). needless to say I crashed miserably. I was able to put it down the 2nd try ( I had been around aircraft a tiny bit) other than since I never got into an aircraft moving I didn't know how to apply the brakes at the time. I do have this on my side now. I am an Experimental Flight Instrumentation Tech so I know many of the controls but So I guess I would be better than nothing. Just not much. People think its not that hard.. lol.. you are wrong.
@@samitechcookie9758 Unlikely as there hasn’t been a successful passenger landing of a large commercial plane that I know of in at least 10 years. With how much I’m involved in this subject matter, I would know about that by now. HOWEVER, if you want to get lost on RUclips in a rollercoaster of emotions for a few hours, search “passenger lands plane” and enjoy various videos of successful Cessna style landing videos.
The description at the begining of your video expreses exactly the second reason why i'm playing fsx, the first one being that i love it so much and tha i find it very chalenging and also relaxing. I wish the second reason never happens when i am on an airplane.
A lot of towers today have experienced cockpit visual, so let’s say the experienced person tells what to switch to the nervous person for the auto land procedure so the plane lands automatically
Thank you for such an informative and training video! I hope I would never have to be in this situation but I'm glad I watched it. Better to be prepared and not have an opportunity than to have an opportunity and not be prepared. Thumbs up!
@@jimkurth time is rushing very fast, so many things happening within a blink of an eye..hoping our visions and dreams will be realized in our life-time.
Now that I have a direct line to you, I have some technical questions related to the 737. If I may ask them. 1. How do you use the two trim buttons above the Autopilot Disengage button on the yoke. I understand the basic function of trim, but why do you have two buttons? Gliders normally have a trim function as well, that's how I know.. 2. Is there a automatic centering mechanism in the steering column? I mean, if you drop the yoke, will it slip back into a centered position? Both in the roill and pitch direction. 3. Is there a feeling of force, or a force feedback, in the steering column during flight? I understand from BAA Training and their videos that there is quite a large force feedback on the rudder pedals, if you need to use them. I wonder if it is the same feeling on the yoke. 4. I know there are speed limits on the air brakes and the flaps. And on the extraction of the landing gear. I don't know what the limits are. If I, as a passenger, sit in the pilots seat, how would I know these limits? Are they related to payload or to the design of the aircraft?
1. The two trim buttons is for redundancy. If one button grounds out you won't have a runaway trim situation, because both need to be pressed to move the trim motor. 2. All aircraft yokes and control columns return to center when released. 3. For larger aircraft you can feel some stuff through the yoke but it's very dampened, hence why they use stick shakers. 4. The limits for the gear and flaps are placarded on the instrument panel as shown in the video. The limits for the speed brakes can be found in the aircraft flight manual (it's 300 knots max). The limits are usually aerodynamic; above those limits flutter and dangerous vibrations can occur.
Tim Morgan Thanks for the answer, but I have some clearing additions: 1. That means that you press both, and if one fails, you still have the other. 2. It seems to me that in some simulators the control column is moving according to the autopilot adjustments. If I understand your answer correctly, this is a wrong assumption. 3. So it is not a real force feedback, in the sense that you need to push/pull hard to control the aircraft. It is merely a feedback from vibrations. Or did I misunderstand you? 4. I'm sorry about that question. After pressing send, I realized that I allready knew the answer. I understand your answer in such a way that the limits are solely speedlimits. They are not dependent on the payload. Or did I misunderstand you?
1. No, it means both must be pressed in order for the trim to get actuated. If one fails you must use the manual trim wheel. This is to prevent the failure of one causing a runaway trim. (The failure of both causing a runaway trim is very low.) 2. The control column naturally centers due to the aerodynamic forces on the control surfaces. Equal air pressure on both sides of all control surfaces causes them to center, which causes the flight controls to center when untouched. Somebody or something (either the autopilot or the pilot) must apply continuous pressure to keep the flight controls from centering. 3. Aircraft with direct or hydraulic control linkages can transmit forces back to the pilot, because the control surfaces move the flight controls just as much as flight controls move the control surfaces. Buffeting or flutter will be felt by the pilot because these forces are transmitted by the two-way linkages. Digital electronic flight controls have no such direct linkage, and so no forces will be felt through the flight controls. Larger aircraft have stick-shakers that artificially shake the stick close to the stall to reproduce the feel of stall buffeting experienced by smaller aircraft with direct linkages. 4. The placarded speeds (gear and flaps speeds) and speedbrake speeds do not depend on aircraft weight.
Tim Morgan Thank you very much. I never told you that the main reason for my ineterst is that I intend to build my own cockpit simulator. At the moment I'm using basic FSX with a RC helicopter transmitter. It does work, but I need a more realistic set of controls.I know that I can buy the controls for simulation, but I intend to design the controls myself to save money. They need to have the functionality, that's why I want to know the reaction of the yoke. If it is okay with you, I might come back with further questions. Thank you in advance.
even thought I still can't land a plane, it's a great video.. the guy's explanation is devoid of any knowledge bias and get to levels that are easier to understand for a layman
hey Tim or Morgan or mister Morgan whatever you go by I am doing a presentation about how to land a 737 and I can't find a good picture showing the mic button on the yoke many I use you picture if I credit you ?
Then the plane would keep on it course and then most likley continue on the heading, speed, alt until it runs out of fuel and spiral outs of control, this is usually caused my a decompression.
if you can see the missile you are up-side down and need to roll out before contacting Center • then you can ask them who is firing at you - the response will be you are in the wrong country and off-course
I don’t know why but whenever anyone else in the video is talking besides the narrator it sends chills down my spine. Maybe I shouldn’t be watching at 12:18 at night lol
With hundreds of people on board, there is a great chance that there are (maybe retired) atpl pilots in the passenger cabin, but at least some with CPL or PPL, who do understand the basics, and can handle both plane and radio. And even in the unlikely event , that there is noone with a license, there are plenty of sim nerds out there who are qualified enough.
Ahmad Al-Harbi Altitude callouts are done automatically, no need to worry about that. In fsx, not all addons have this included, but in real life it's there
Also, don't bump the controls or you might cause the autopilot to disengage before you are ready! I would dump all fire extinguishers after the engines shut down also since the plane is probably damaged or the breaks are about to catch fire or both after a random dude lands the plane.
Hmm, it's difficult to notice and remember the frequency in english, hope they would have an translator in worst case. + I would like to have another passanger as a copilot who makes a video call with his mobile to the tower or a pilot (there are many questions: which app? is there a good LTE(?)-signal? can the data transmittion be switched to the provider with the best signal, too? data volume limit off?)
As I have replied to numerous other people with the same comment, and as is mentioned in the video description, this video was produced to answer a Quora question, and focuses on landing the plane with a minimum of switchology.
+HunterClash You don't need the elevation nor the length. And as long as there's enough fuel there's time. The only things needed are the ILS frequency and course, which can be taken from the FMC (after selecting an arrival) or given by ATC.
Good thing about that is if I'm ever on the flight with you you better be glad I'm there I have over 15,000 hours logged on flight simulators and I flown this model a lot thanks for the video brother great instructions.
+V Hydrax Thanks! I have played flight simulators for a long time and am very familiar with the aircraft systems. Im sure i could land it, specially with the autopilot help. Noo bragging intended.
+Chris Garcia what? lol I have played flight simulators for a long time and I know I could land it. Just because I'm young, it doesn't mean I'm stupid.
That's why I'm learning extensively to recognize all the instrument of possible jet I will be flying with in the future. Like Boeing or Airbus and even MD. At least I know the physics and the aerodynamics limitations of each aircraft and all the important buttons. Nowadays you can play and self educate yourself on recognizing the controls via flight simulator software out there. The chance of a normal passenger to take over the controls is surely slim. But hey, when this did happened. At least I'm educate and can be calm behind the control.
Shut up people. This video is trying to save people's lives. Not to turn your last moments into a roller coaster ride. I know how to land a Boeing 777-500 and I'm only 10 yrs old. Yes, you heard right! I'm still only a kid!

Martell Creswell Dreamland Resort is a group of peorple trying to recover what is going on at Area 51.
came here after watching "into the night"
True man !
me lmao
Thanx man. Now I feel more secure & prepared. However, those steps does not seem like a piece of cake.
On a side note, would you be laughing and posting smileys if the name of this video was:
هبوط طائرة بوينغ 737
+Maloy7800 Super LMAO!
brilliantly funny..exactly what I thought ..as soon as you over water ..f16 will blast you out the sky
lmfao
XDXD
8:20 Its all fun and games until you hear godspeed sir
Welcome to steam edition
People think its not that hard.. lol.. you are wrong.
someone from "into the night" netflix series?
yeah, hi!
Krzysztof Rynkiewicz YHHHHH
Tried this tutorial in real life. Thank you so much! You saved us!!
Really?
@@samitechcookie9758 Unlikely as there hasn’t been a successful passenger landing of a large commercial plane that I know of in at least 10 years. With how much I’m involved in this subject matter, I would know about that by now. HOWEVER, if you want to get lost on RUclips in a rollercoaster of emotions for a few hours, search “passenger lands plane” and enjoy various videos of successful Cessna style landing videos.
Who's here after watching into the night ?
I LOVE that serie❣️❣️
BRUH HAHA that’s so weird exactly why i’m here
David Munoz SAMEEEEE lol cuz she said she’s watching an online video how to land a plane
Awesome video. I enjoyed this...
"nervous passenger edition" xD
really good run-thru of FS glass-cockpit basics. Really, FS ought to simply start with this little video when 1st installed and started
The cringe and chills down my whole entire body started at 1:14 . It's just the sound of that passenger's voice that is weird.
PolarBear3756 lmao
The description at the begining of your video expreses exactly the second reason why i'm playing fsx, the first one being that i love it so much and tha i find it very chalenging and also relaxing. I wish the second reason never happens when i am on an airplane.
To be honest I would really want to have that exact opportunity. Would be my only chance to ever fly a plane.
ye probably the same...
Me too
Same here
A lot of towers today have experienced cockpit visual, so let’s say the experienced person tells what to switch to the nervous person for the auto land procedure so the plane lands automatically
Hold my beer....I got this.
**9 year-old enters cockpit** don't worry i saw this video on RUclips how to land a plane
I'd just program in the autolanding system (Loc freq on both NAVs and engage cmd a and cmd b)
Agreed but the purpose of this video was to demonstrate a landing with a minimum of switchology.
how old are you like 9?
Janet. LOL, Nice. "Just Another Non-Existant Terminal". Area 51, here we come.
Thank you for such an informative and training video! I hope I would never have to be in this situation but I'm glad I watched it. Better to be prepared and not have an opportunity than to have an opportunity and not be prepared. Thumbs up!
I think they never saw your comment even after 4years....I would rate your comment top comment...!!!
@@falconheavy9 can’t believe it’s been 4 years since I wrote this comment. My how time goes by in a blink of an eye. Thanks for the comment!
@@jimkurth time is rushing very fast, so many things happening within a blink of an eye..hoping our visions and dreams will be realized in our life-time.
This made me feel so anxious, fuck
So, both pilots are incapacitated...
*checks cockpit door*
...it's locked. 😮
Came here from "into the night" haha
Dragoon GT SAMMEEEE
I watch this like, four times a year. Just in case.
Tim Morgan Thanks for the answer, but I have some clearing additions:
(The failure of both causing a runaway trim is very low.)
And I never told you that I like your video very much. I have saved it. Thanks a lot.
even thought I still can't land a plane, it's a great video.. the guy's explanation is devoid of any knowledge bias and get to levels that are easier to understand for a layman
Who came here from "into the night"
yeah hahaha
Oh my god are we so predictable 😁😁😁😁😁😁
Oussama Rachid me
hey Tim or Morgan or mister Morgan whatever you go by I am doing a presentation about how to land a 737 and I can't find a good picture showing the mic button on the yoke many I use you picture if I credit you ?
What to do if someone shoots a SAM missile towards the plane?
Tim Morgan
what if all the passengers pass out?
Then the plane would keep on it course and then most likley continue on the heading, speed, alt until it runs out of fuel and spiral outs of control, this is usually caused my a decompression.
You might not know, unless you can see the misile in front of you. And then you have seconds before impact.
Yolo
if you can see the missile you are up-side down and need to roll out before contacting Center • then you can ask them who is firing at you - the response will be you are in the wrong country and off-course
Thank you ... you’re a good citizen. I am a pilot but the little 172"s I have away wounded about this..thanks again.
Janet? You're landing in Area 51?
I don’t know why but whenever anyone else in the video is talking besides the narrator it sends chills down my spine. Maybe I shouldn’t be watching at 12:18 at night lol
Is this not one of the planes which are flying to Area 51?
Yes it is. Just Another Non Existent Terminal (JANET)
This is relevant once again
With hundreds of people on board, there is a great chance that there are (maybe retired) atpl pilots in the passenger cabin, but at least some with CPL or PPL, who do understand the basics, and can handle both plane and radio. And even in the unlikely event , that there is noone with a license, there are plenty of sim nerds out there who are qualified enough.
How can the airplane tell u how high
I mean which button can give me the sound?
It does it by itself
Ahmad Al-Harbi Altitude callouts are done automatically, no need to worry about that. In fsx, not all addons have this included, but in real life it's there
Ahmad Al-Harbi A plane’s altitude system sends a signal directly to the ground. It measures the time it took.
Also, don't bump the controls or you might cause the autopilot to disengage before you are ready! I would dump all fire extinguishers after the engines shut down also since the plane is probably damaged or the breaks are about to catch fire or both after a random dude lands the plane.
Who’s here because of Into The Night?

This was really interesting :) Good to know that one 11 minute video could greatly increase the chance of saving lives
This video helped me save a life (:
Derek Marsh And guess what, I'm jesus
Just one life
It was his own, he robbed it but coudn't land it.
Anyone else here cause of Netflix ?
Kamo Magano hahahahahaha yes
Kamo Magano into the night
setting radio to frequency 121.5 is all you need to remember per another "land it by yourself" video i just watched. 😎
8:30
Bad. Telling somebody with very little experience to hand fly an airliner is a very bad idea. Use ILS CAT III.
As I have replied to numerous other people with the same comment, and as is mentioned in the video description, this video was produced to answer a Quora question, and focuses on landing the plane with a minimum of switchology.
Tim Morgan Well then that answer is pretty bad.
Feel free to make your own video then.
There are airports which doesn't have Instrument Landing system (ILS) plus the pasenger might not know how to land automatically
Is anybody here beacuse of into The night?
Lucas Panaka yh
Your the only RUclipsr that makes a perfect plane video on have to land a plane properly! BTW I subbed
I'm 14 and I'm sure I could land it.
General I believe anything is possible
+Chris Garcia Why are you so mad lol?
+V Hydrax Thanks! I have played flight simulators for a long time and am very familiar with the aircraft systems. Im sure i could land it, specially with the autopilot help. Noo bragging intended.
+Chris Garcia what? lol I have played flight simulators for a long time and I know I could land it. Just because I'm young, it doesn't mean I'm stupid.
GeneralRelativity hey bro how do i get these simulator?
That's why I'm learning extensively to recognize all the instrument of possible jet I will be flying with in the future. Like Boeing or Airbus and even MD. At least I know the physics and the aerodynamics limitations of each aircraft and all the important buttons. Nowadays you can play and self educate yourself on recognizing the controls via flight simulator software out there.
The chance of a normal passenger to take over the controls is surely slim. But hey, when this did happened. At least I'm educate and can be calm behind the control.
Hate when this shit happens
First grab a beer from the galley then sit in the controls. You can do this!!
Shut up people. This video is trying to save people's lives. Not to turn your last moments into a roller coaster ride. I know how to land a Boeing 777-500 and I'm only 10 yrs old. Yes, you heard right! I'm still only a kid!
I know how to land an a320 and a Cessna 172....
But I didn't say I could land them well...
wtf kid 777-500 ????????????????????
I play fsx with joystick and yoke but i dont record any vids of fsx
777-500 lol kid
777-500 does not exist... 😂😂😂
Just watched into the night had to come watch this to make sure I'm prepared just in case..I think I got it!
Added to my watch later vids. I will just come back to this vid if I find myself in the cockpit. Simples. As easy as following a Gordan Ramsey cooking vid.
Tip: Download this video before boarding your plane;)
my question is, WHY are the crew unconscious? is there risk of me becoming unconscious for the same reason?
Worst nightmare of ATC:
Passenger: mayday mayday both pilots are unconscious...
ATC: ok what is your experience with aircraft?
Passenger: I have a 1000+ hours of flight experience with Microsoft Flight Simulator. I'MA GAMER. Give me mission objectives!!
ATC: oh f**k
I was today years old that I realized Janet is the name of the planes that go to Area 51
Thank you so much for this video. It's a lifesaver. It really came in handy. Wish I could thank you in person.
I’m flight attendant for the b737-800 and honestly, I feel like every flight attendant should know how to land a plane just in case
Problem with this is, whatever caused BOTH pilots to pass out, will likely cause anyone who sets up in the cockpit to pass out too...
Thank you for a most informative video. I haven't flown for many years, but I'm sure I will again in the future. There's a lot to learn it would seem! I was nervous just watching the video...
You forgot the part where you barrel-roll and then proceed to nose dive into the ground.
