It's time to ask for better choreography from this old chestnut and give real Chinese dance a chance to shine. This time without the bowing, coolie hats and pointy fingers.
@@Lessing3412it’s still a stereotype that misrepresents a culture. I don’t see a reason why new productions of the Nutcracker should keep this practice - instead, like OP said, the dolls should dance like they are from the culture they represent, makes it more magical and diverse doesn’t it?
Those were old videos, now they are trying to make it inclusive as possible, like rearranging the dance or adding elements from Chinese culture like the dragon dance, the lion dance or instead of a stereotypical Chinese man, the cricket comes out of the box.
The 2nd version by the Bolshoi is more typical of what I think of as the Chinese dance, and was very good. Oh my, those split jumps at the end of an already exhausting dance were amazing! Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the difficulty and frivolity of the 1st version. Thanks for posting! ❤️
The Bolshoi version has Kung Fu elements in the choreography, so it's very good. Orlando's version is more like what westerners think of Chinese dance. The Canadian ballet is not really Chinese.
I'm not sure if I like the Canadian version as much as I like some of the Russian or even French versions of the same dance. The Canadian dance is more of a watered down version. One thing that I do like about the Montreal ballet rendition, though is how they give the ballerina a larger role. In most of the Russian ballets of the Chinese dance, they have the men do a lot more of the dancing. Some versions of The Nutcracker in Canada is really good. The one put on by the Royal Canadian Ballet Company is geared more for the enjoyment of children than for adults, but it is really good as well. Can't for the life of me remember the Chinese dance since I prefer watching other versions of the Nutcracker, but one of my friends who brought her children to watch the ballet said that the performance was really good.
@@TiffWaffleshonestly, Canadian version is what kids do in kindergarten in Russia. Not even in ballet schools. 😂can't believe grownups do these in real adult ballet😂
Bolshoi's version is technically more difficult and obviously "toyish". You realise these are the dancing Chinese toys. Orlando's version is colourful and joyful.
It’s become just holding the index finger up, but the proper hands (thumb and middle finger touching, other fingers sticking out) come from a traditional Chinese lotus dance.
Super hard to pick between Bolshoi and Orlando, wish i could combine the two (along with the royal ballet’s as well because it’s costuming and leaps for this dance are superior) Bolshoi’s has always been a classic so i think i’m gonna have to go with it, but Orlando’s ballet did an incredible job and is definitely one of my favorites (San Francisco’s Chinese is great as well)
I wish you would take out the two Links at the end because they completely cover the two dancers in the last clip. Especially since you still leave a couple seconds at the end with the message to subscribe. The links could just go there instead of covering the actual video
You made a mistake... the first one is the NDB BALET (national theatre of Brno) that has the same version of le grand ballet canadien of Montreal, but in this video I recognised my colleagues from Brno
Thanks for your feedback! When we found this version it was signed by Les Ballets Canadiens, that's why 😅 if you look for chinese dance by Les Ballets Canadiens you will find it as we said.. strange for real! But thanks for letting us know ❤️
yep, as a chinese i feel humiliated by this dance to be honest its so embarrassing, the index fnger sticking up and the weird stiff movements youd find in a toddler gymnast class
Безусловный фаворит - Большой театр. Остальные - пародия. Версия Orlando - это не "Чай", они похожи на пирожные, а их кордебалет - кружок любителей танцев.
To me the bolshoi costuming and choreography does not look Chinese and the other too are both stereotypical typical and not true Chinese but if I had to pick it would be the last one
Tbh, didn't love the bolshoi. Thought it was boring structurally. Also, only the guy got to do the cool stuff. I thought the last one was the most interesting structurally and had the most interesting costumes, and the first one was the best of the three.

the what hats???
Funny to hear that from a weird western racist
You do know ist's dolls dancing according to the Story, right? I mean have you even read it?

Thanks for your detailed feedback 😍😍 yes absolutely, those jumps were literally a surprise!
Of course the second! Classic version of Chinese danse. The first version looks like russian skomoroh's danse(. The third part is very technical.
Thanks for your comment, very interesting analysis 😊💪
Bolshoi ballet with no doubts. The rests of look like Cirque du Soleil or some broadway show.
Bolshoi of course!
Second one is my favorite 😍
We can't choose !! All these performers are awesome !

The one I am doing is gonna include tumbling! I’m probably gonna do a lot of back handsprings

My company's version is a giant Eastern dragon puppet and the soloist is a little flame
Bolshoi is the king. Moscow welcomes everyone

the best Chinese dance of the Nutcracker in the Kremlin Ballet version. Definitely.
You had them in perfect order.
精湛的演出感謝分享平安喜樂喔!💐🎼💐
多虧了您,訂閱頻道 :)
I enjoyed the one from Orlando the best.
Bolchoï bien sûr !!!)))
😛👍
And what's the deal with the holding the index finger up?

fr that seems a bit 🤨🤨

I’m doing back handsprings in the one I’m doing
I like it

@@DanceLineBallet yes because we got the same version in Brno, but mistakes like that can happened
Please tell me the bolshoi lady didn't have buck teeth

It's the dolls dancing, they are intentionally not truly Chinese, because they are dolls
Bolshoi stays the best but the Orlando ballet version, although a bit messy and pretty racist was nice too
I will never subscribe to this channel because of the big red SUBSCRIBE button that comes down four times and distracts from the dancing.

I think i'll just go watch the part from Fantasia. This dance is too cringey to watch in a real ballet
You mean the mushroom dance in Fantasia? That's sooo cute 🍄😻
