- Wow... The Indycar race at Barber sure brought us back to what we expected form the series. We had action, crashes, overtakes, and then a mannequin on the track... no seriously... Here are my thoughts on the entire weekend!

IndyCar rookie in 2024 thanks to Larson Effect. But I know of SRR thanks to his brief days in what’s now ARCA West, formally K&N West. And he was quite the caution causer there too.

Funny moment was when Ferrucci led the field out of the caution they had to abort the first restart and he said on the radio “sorry, never done this before from the front”
10th in the standings, which is the real shocker.

@@marcellakilgarriffyeah they released him due to a clause in his contract saying he can’t miss 4 races in a row. It’s harsh but I understand it from McLarens point of view, they need to be able to lock a driver into the car to let them develop instead of swapping drivers every few races depending on whose available
@@SlightCrescent4 I just saw the statement on Twitter. I feel sorry for Malukas but I'm not surprised they've let him go, I had a feeling this was coming when he was only getting the pins out of his arm last week and wasn't likely to be able to race the 500. They couldn't really justify having a driver on contract that hasn't ever actually driven for them.
@@SlightCrescent4 Oof, that is a tough clause if true. Mind you, normally it wouldn't be an issue but with the fact that Malukas has taken longer to recover from his injury than expected meant that it's come into play.
As for who's driving the #6, I wouldn't mind it being shared between Ilott and Pourchaire for the rest of the year, but I suppose McLaren would want someone to drive full-time. Though tbf, Ilott and Pourchaire are splitting the month of May between them apparently; Pourchaire looks like he's doing the Indy GP and Ilott will do the 500.
@@dominicbarden4436 it wouldn't be unusual to have a clause around missed races in a contract tbf. He got really unlucky that the recovery is taking so long. I'd love to see Ilott and Pourchaire share the seat

You forgot to mention how Ferucci messed up the restart he was leading (post Georgina/SRR yellow), and the reason was - in his words - "sorry I've never done one of these before" 😂

New to Indy? They do strange things like going to "Thermal." Thermal is NOT in Yellowstone. Nor is it a points race. But they do "race", sort of. They stop halfway thru to take a 10 minute break . . . and watch Family Feud (when Helio C. was on); Finally, best part is after you watch race #1 in Florida, you will never know when the next race is (for real); check every Sunday . . nope-nope-nope-nope . . . .oh well, NHL and NBA is on . . . . . .
Better than F1, tech is more or less equal or at least close, set up is everything, ensure tough tight racing, enjoy with us! Hoping next year for a Mexico race on their GP circuit would be huge with all the Latino drivers/ Spanish speakers. They need to extend the series.
Watched F1 since 2001, Indycar is more entertaining.
@@rodbrown8306 it is better, but prob is Max has a "special" RB car and wins by 10 "minutes" F1 is a joke b/c of it. My guys are Lando, Charles and Lewis. As Lando says, they are all going for 2nd place.

With the series having a NASCAR "rubbing is racing" attitude this season it's amazing how many cars did finish this race.

Why have McLaren been involved in so many driver controversies in recent years? Dropping Oliver Askew, dropping Daniel Ricciardo (maybe the least controversial of the lot, but still), the Piastri/Alpine shenanigans, the Palou debacle and now dropping Malukas!

I went to Barber a few weeks back, and I saw Georgina hanging on the bridge. I told my mom "what would happen if that fell onto the track?". Well, now we know lmao
The first time I saw her I was a bit shocked - coming out of the woods on the trail you see her from below.
This race was PEAK IndyCar! It had absolutely everything. The F1 mind could not comprehend!
I'm finally getting the chaos promised to me if I started watching indycar.
As soon as Sting Ray Robb crashed I was waiting for the FP1Will video with great anticipation!
Watching this race I was thinking FP1Will is going to have enough for a mini-series. How do you decide what not to put in? Amazing.
The part of Will laughing like his was on high crack, was that funniest thing I have ever heard on this channel.

One thing you could add to these videos (mainly because it is something that, as an IndyCar fan, annoys me), is making fun on the milk crates and $300.00 portable backdrop they consider an acceptable podium for the highest rung of the North American Open Wheel ladder.
It's a recurring embarrassment. Maybe Zak will explain a few concepts about marketing.

I’m so happy to see FP1 Will made it. Between Georgina, Stingray and Ferrucci not knowing how to do a restart I was genuinely concerned for FP1 Will’s health. Thought he could potentially have a brain aneurysm due to joke overload, the brain can an only take so much.

I found it interesting that everyone was able to drive through the gravel traps.
Two things: 1 Georgina needs to be included on Red Flags graphics. 2 That Georgina outro is mandatory on IndyCar videos going forward.
I'll be honest, I don't usually care much about indycar, but the memes about that mannequin actually made it onto my timeline and I figured I'd check out your jokes about it. I was certainly not disappointed

I adore this Barber circuit. I only wish there were more circuits like this in F1, But this race was awesome, it was exciting and interesting. So excellent not watching a carroussel but a real racing car race.

Im sorry if this sounds a bit stupid, but isnt having a mannequin dangling over an active race track a potential hazard to the drivers, especially if it fell on a driver traveling at speed? How was this allowed?
It wasn't directly over the track--even though I think old man Barber wanted it there at some point--so it probably wasn't seen as a problem. Unfortunately, Georgina locked her knees upon landing and fell forward.
I think it was hanging over the grass verge rather than the track but I agree it's a silly place for it!

You finally got me Will...literal, genuine spit-take of my morning coffee (I'll skip which joke caused it.) 3:50, and all throughout the weekend: how much stronger are Indycars than F1 cars? They bounce along the turf can bury the nose and front wing in the dirt at 100 mph+ and KEEP GOING. Ditto bang wheels, sidepods, fly strait off the track on a flat out corner nose-first into the barrier with nary a scratch, whatever. An F1 car shatters like a porcelain doll kicked by Eric Cantona if it barely brushes anything (with a Red Flag as a result, natch.)
