STOL operations are very exciting. As a student for my private ticket I was never allowed to use a paved runway. My CFI required to me to do short field takeoffs and landings in the grass. I had to 'earn' my runway privileges. He claimed that anyone can takeoff on 7700 feet of pavement. It became a very useful skill later on in my flying career. Great video!
Looked up the registration number and discovered that this aircraft was wrecked with the loss of two pilots and three passengers in 2017 near a place called Wamena shortly after take off. Crash was believed to be due to weather conditions. A tragic loss all on board. Incredible bravery to fly in these parts of the world and often to help others receive medical aid and attention as well as did etc. RIP

Spectacular flying! You make it look easy. The first time I watched this video, I had to remind myself to breathe! Those approaches are truly "cliff hangers." Great job!
OUTSTANDING collection of superb flying anecdotes. On several of those very short strips I could swear the prop was in beta before the wheels touched down. Phenomenal piloting skills.
This is what I call "flying a machine". The overwhelming part of our commercial pilots in our dense traffic today are just flying bus drivers turning buttons and pushing keys; dream job is not quite the word that comes to my mind...

Pesawat sudah berganti tetapi lapangan terbangnya tetap ekstrim. Terima kasih pilot Tom Benoit (alm), Pilot Br. I get the impression this pilot is a very confident but not overly confident one. I get the impression he helps so many people, and is the very lifeline of many people there. I am simply in awe of his skill and, dedication to what he does. How there can be 259 thumbs down boggles the mind. The PC6 cockpit even has a handy spring clip for keeping a thick wad of banknotes safe. Pilatus designers really understood their user base that day.
I first saw the remarkable aircraft in the Mel Gibson film 'Air America', I have been fascinated by it since. I've seen back gardens here in the UK bigger than some of those runways! Kudos to the pilots flying these aircraft into those types of runways.

During 1967-68 my tour of duty in the Vietnam War was based at a place called Binh Thuy on the right bank of the Bassac River -- pretty much in the middle of the Mekong Delta. I was with the River Patrol Force (TF 116). The Vietnamese Air Force had a major base just inland from our HQ. It was a very busy place. One day I had to meet with an officer with the US Air Force Advisory Team that was attached to the VNAF base -- so we met, settled our business , and went out to the ramp to see what was going on. A fonky* looking, high-wing airplane like I'd never seen before was approaching the ramp. My USAF friend told me it was a STOL Pilatus Porter operated by Air America. Now that was a long time ago, but if memory serves, that version had leading edge wing slats and large wing flaps. I was fascinated. It parked and unloaded its "don't-ask-who-they-are" passengers Then it loaded some cartons, shut the doors, and configured its wing for takeoff. The slats and flaps looked like they were each about 50 degrees down. A cross section of the wing resembled a "C" on its side. The pilot fired up the engine to takeoff power, the Pilatus rolled forward maybe 75-100 feet, and then seemingly jumped into the air and went on its way. It was the shortest takeoff I've ever seen. It made some of the ones shown in this video by comparison look like they were at made JFK or DFW. Don't get me wron. Those piloys had plenty of moxie! *Fonky is an expression that we used back during HS to describe anything or anyone that looked totally awkward. For example, Jerry Lewis' pratfalls were fonky.
