- The PlayStation Vita, Sony's handheld follow-up to the super-successful PSP, is a console that was absolutely bursting with potential. Two analogue sticks, a multi-touch, capacitive OLED screen, a rear touch pad, and lots of other nifty features all seemed to put Sony in a great position to take on the might of Nintendo and their recently-released 3DS. Alas, it was not to be, and despite a passionate fan-base, the Vita was seen as a commercial failure which Sony dropped like an especially hot potato once the success of the Nintendo Switch assured its demise. It was really good, though, and with a little more support, it could have been an all-time great, with triumphs like Gravity Rush and Uncharted: Golden Abyss showing off what a dedicated developer could do with the power, screen quality, and high-tech gimmickry offered by the ill-fated handheld. Forget about games of that stature, though, as we're looking for titles that you might not know about. That's right, we're digging for gems again, and the pickings are pretty slim down here in the Vita mines. Still, hopefully you'll see something that'll get your rear touch-pad fingers tapping again. I still play my launch day Vita. Thankfully the HB scene is thriving with some of the best ports available.
I just got my first Vita yesterday and I'm just blown away by it, I'll be using it for decades like I did its lil brother the PSP back in the day.

I’m not really a racing game player. But for some reason I love motor storm RC.
I normally like racing games that use actual cars but I also had fun racing rc cars in this game for reason
I feel like almost all of the great games on Vita are hidden gems at this point. Love my little Vita.
i know the vita doesnt have a lot of exclusives, but theres definitely more on the wikipedia category alone than this video has!

Great list! I would personally add IA/VT colorful, Puyo Puyo Tetris and Catherine: Full Body, but the problem is that they are region locked in Japan and I am not sure if that is allowed. I would add though Muramasa: Rebirth and Mary Skelter - they are highly underrated games that deserve more praise.
Vita doesn't lack for games, but you really have to look everywhere to find the finest of Vita's games. With the community's support at it's best now, it would be exciting to look at what Vita could have been many years ago. You may not buy it, but you will certainly be interested in at least looking at it's rise beyond the grave!
Minor correction: they aren't region locked (unable to be played on consoles made outside of that region), they just weren't officially ported to the West, which is technically different.

Not only Sony, but consumers as well. Most of the people raving about the Vita today never got one at launch and supported it. Instead, they hopped on the bandwagon after people found out how to mod it.
@@lesterbronson2385 You can't really blame consumers for not buying something that Sony barely marketed in the West.
Even at the height of Vita's lifespan, people in its core demographic were asking me what the heck I was playing when I brought it out while on lunch at work or on line at PAX or ComicCon. Not to mention all the people who still think that the Vita has barely any games when its library is more or less even to the 3DS' in terms of both size and quality (it has less exclusives, but it makes up the difference by having way more ports of games that could only played portably on the Vita until the Switch or the Steam Deck and its analogues came out years later, with a lot less shovelware because the Vita didn't have the playerbase needed to make porting shovelware profitable on it) because Sony didn't advertise that.
Shameful lack of Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines.

I probably could've put a lot more time and money into my Vita, if only their proprietary memory cards weren't so prone to failure. They could've just used SD cards like everyone else, but they just had to be different.
Nowadays you can very easily mod your Vita, and then you can buy a "SD2Vita" adapter for like 3 bucks, which then lets you use normal micro SD cards.

Regarding the mention of the Switch at the beginning of the video: the Vita was already dead for a couple of years when the Switch was introduced. Sony killed it sometime in 2015.

Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2 were superb Vita ports. Vita3k is helping to keep these classics alive as long as you have a handheld powerful enough to run it.
I love the vita. Ray Gigant is an excellent choice and one of my favorite art styles in any RPG. I'm trying to collect the full catelog for vita so I could make many more recommendations: Child of Light, Tokyo Xanadu, Severed just of the top of my head.
PS Vita didn't die... it was murdered in cold blood!
I still have mine, best handheld console of all time. It's a beast for emulation as well!
Comparing Reverie to Earthbound is fair, but it’s clearly more of a Star tropics homage. Star Tropics is lesser known, but just as good and I highly recommend it to anyone who can, say, dump their legitimately owned copy onto their vita.

Before it came to Steam, Persona 4 Golden was kind of the killer app for the Vita. Now it’s all about modding it.
The Vita is a great console & I still have mine. The thing that irritates me now is the ridiculous prices that are being charged for physical copies of games.
One for me was The Caligula Effect. While it was basically budget Persona and quite janky, it had a charm of its own. At least we have the Overdose release which cleaned up some of the jank.
Didn't think I'd see both Sorcery Saga and Mary Skelter in the same Triple Jump vid.
I'm a big fan of Persona 4 Golden, one of my favorite games. Now, that game isn't a hidden gem because it's literally the best selling Vita game. But there are some more clone-y like games to it on the Vita. Tokyo Xanadu and Lost Dimension. If you're curious, check it out. Even those without a Vita can get in on the fun because there are updated versions on the PS4
Yeah… In Tales of Graces F, the characters from Hearts R had better names, and Kor was previously named Shing Meteorite.
Some weird choices and weird missing games (seems they tried to avoid any slightly thirst Japanese rpgs/VNs) but the biggest missing game is freedom wars…that really should have been here.
