    I am in my eighties and was at senior school when King George passed away. I don't think I haven't ever seen such perfection and dedication as this. The precision, timing with such accuracy and splendour is unbelievable. Her Majesty's reign over 70yrs and her dedication to her people of Great Britain and the Commonwealth was incredible and I for one will miss her personal messages and her humour, the only consulation is that Her Majesty is now at peace and with her beloved Husband Prince Phillip who everybody could see she was devoted to and he to her. RIP you deserve to be together again !

    Since Elizabeth II died, there has been much publicity, not so much thought about why she matters, and why monarchy is helpful in general. Monarchy shouldn't be used as real-life soap opera, nor as mere material to fill space in the media.
    The achievement of the British monarchy should become clearer in comparison with the histories of other countries. In the 19th & 20th centuries the U.S.A, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Spain and Greece suffered in various ways civil wars, political storms, and dictatorships. This shows what can go wrong in the absence of a head of state which is above politics, and which opposes illegal dictatorship. If there are many reasons England, Wales, and Scotland have had no civil war since Culloden in 1746, having a constitutional monarchy to unify all the people is an important reason. In the UK, 'peace' in formal speech is "The King's Peace".
    Of course King Charles III's first marriage was a tragic mistake; Prince Philip could be tactless. Whatever mistakes the royal family have made, let us be grateful for the unity the monarchy gives in the UK & the world. By stabilizing Britain & the commonwealth (e.g. Canada & Australia), it promotes peace in the world. The sea around it didn't protect the U.S.A. against civil war in the 1860s, and the UK could have suffered civil war over slavery in the 19th century; likewise over world war, loss of empire, economic failure, or race in the 20th. There will always be violence and political problems in the world, and billions of people who know or understand nothing of the British monarchy and the stability it brings. Since the 1700s, billions of people have lived under the British crown without civil war, lynching, dictatorship in their lives. God save King Charles III, and his successors.

      @lsmith9249 Год назад +1

      the Battle of Culloden was not a civil war, it was the final battle in the jacobite uprising
      which was about putting a Stuart Claimant on the throne
      and like many countries we haven't always had a constitutional monarchy and it doesn't always unify

      Thankyou for replying@@lsmith9249 . There has been nothing in the nature of civil war since Culloden in England, Scotland & Wales. Other countries have endured those evils.

    I have a bookmark file for the Queen that I filled with things that I didn't have time to watch and just watched this today. We Americans don't have Pomp and Circumstance and the Britt's do it the best.
    Just some Fun Facts for a somber moment. 6,000 members of the Military and Guard Division participated in the week long salute to the Queen, 10,000 Police Officers, 175 military members from the Commonwealth I remember Canadians, Scott's but what about the India members I saw they are not in the Commonwealth anymore or are they. Americans are clueless when it comes to national leaders in our country let alone other countries.
    2000 Foreign Leaders and Dignitaries, 800 for the private service, 125 Movie theaters live streamed the funeral, close to one million saw her lying in state and the most controversial number is how many viewed the Queens Funeral.
    Some are estimating 4.1 billion and some are skeptical of that number since that would be almost half of the world's population. Most viewed before the Queen's Funeral was 3.6 billion Atlanta's Olympics, 2.5 billion viewed Princess Di's Funeral which were in 1996 and 1997. Every country would have to post their viewing numbers to be sure of TV viewers. UK reported 26 million, the US reported 11.4 million and Australia reported 5.17 million there are still 197 countries to report theirs and maybe we can get to 4.1 billion. The other thing that in the late 90's people didn't use their phones and computers to view live events Hell we were just hoping the computers would change the date from 1999 to 2000 with the Y2k scare. How are they going to count those people who viewed on others applications instead of a TV.
    I would say that it will be the most viewed event in the history of the world so what ever number it hits Her Majesty The Queen has been one of the most renounced person in the world, most respected, most loved and will be the only Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother ever to rule with perspective to change when it was necessary and the compassion and class that no one will ever achieve.
    Her Covid video was viewed by a lot of Americans but then again we had Donald Trump and you had a rational thinking person. It does have 5 million views on RUclips. I must have watched it 5 times myself.
    She really was the World's Queen. The UK and the Commonwealth should be proud to had her as Queen.

    • @faramir
      @faramir Год назад +5

      India is in the Commonwealth, but the Queen was not the Head of State there, they have their own ceremonial President. Whereas the British monarch is still the Head of State in Canada and Australia, as well as New Zealand and a few other territories, mainly in the Caribbean.

    • @mcoguyaj
      @mcoguyaj Год назад +2

      @@faramir Thank you for answering that. Wasn't sure since the rift between the 2 countries was a big rift. Am i right about this : when I hear that the Queen is responsible for the treatment of some people in countries that were in the commonwealth. It's not her fault it was the parliament that went after those countries and are responsible. Because she was head of state she was always blamed but not her decision. I'm in the US and when you google it there is no clear answer. As head of state she couldn't tell parliament what they could or couldn't do. What do you think. Asked ny friend Ducan who is from England and has been here since the 90's he laughed and said he never did politics and didn't care.

    • @faramir
      @faramir Год назад +7

      @@mcoguyaj Even in the countries where she was head of state, including the UK, she couldn't tell parliament what to do. Rather, parliament told her which bills to sign. That is why all these countries count as democracies. She had a certain amount of "soft power"; UK constitutional theorists argue that the monarch has the right to be consulted, to advise, and to warn (so the Prime Minister of the day has regular private meetings with the monarch, and because the Queen knew many of the world's leaders after so long a reign, that knowledge might sometimes be useful. There were some very residual powers in some other countries where she was head of state, eg I believe in a few of the Caribbean Islands the monarch had last resort power to commute the death penalty. Such power would never be exercised in person, but by the Privy Council. In other Commonwealth countries the monarch has no power.
      The point of the Commonwealth is as a friendly association of countries, providing technical assistance to developing countries within the group, and they tend also to be priority targets for development aid by the UK and other developed countries within it (Canada, Australia, NZ). It is voluntary, and no longer confined to former British Empire territories, eg Mozambique, Rwanda and Gabon have chosen to belong. So the Netflix commentator who referred to the Commonwealth as Empire 2.0 betrayed at least ignorance and one suspects malice towards a benign and voluntary legacy of the UK's historic responsibilities.
      Relations between India and the UK are largely friendly. And the UK has a significant minority population of Indian ethnicity, one of whom is currently the Conservative Prime Minister. Some Indians feel some historic resentment towards the UK as the former colonial power; some enjoy the connections between the two countries, notably the language and cricket.

      The Queen at her death was Head of State of 15 countries, known collectively as the Commonwealth Realms. The wider Commonwealth of Nations includes these Commonwealth Realm countries but also includes most of the other countries who were formerly part of the British Empire and a handful who were not but have elected to join it. The Queen was the head of the Commonwealth but this was not by right of birth, inheritance or rank but by the agreement of the nations of the Commonwealth. India is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations but is not a Commonwealth Realm, having gained independence in 1947.
