    Her meaning: LITERALLY don't touch her hair. It's her crown soul etc. Or hair is precious to us. You ( won't specify) have taken everything from us, but cannot take away our glory. Our hair. As black folks we take pride in our hair. She isn't talking about women but hair. Literally. Lol

    Cranes in the sky is another beautiful song from this album and I personally love her vocals in that song more than don’t touch my hair

    Love your channel. Solange wrote this with Sampha (the guy in the video during the "whatcha say to me" part). This is actually a meaningful song about specifically black women's autonomy over their hair and bodies as historically our hair and hairstyles specifically have been policed and called unkempt. I would be interested to hear your take on other songs from this album, but also some of her older stuff like T.O.N.Y or Losing You. Or some other artists in a similar vein like Bilal, Amel Larrieux, Erykah Badu or even Little Dragon who have really interesting voices.

      I love that theme. And I love Black women’s hair styles! They have always inspired me

    Just to clarify tho this song is specifically about black woman being subjected to having many people of other races touch their hair (of course it has a deeper meaning than just our hair tho)

    Love this song and I really like your piano playing along with it. She wrote the song herself with the featured artist Sampha
    (It’s about a phenomenon where white people sometimes touch black people hair unwarranted and w/o permission… mainly a song about respect)

    This song was pretty cool. I would have never listened to it on my own, so it's awesome that your channel introduces people to new music. I love your commentary on it.
    Also, have you ever heard of an artist named Aurora? I think you would really enjoy the emotion that she is able to put into her voice and songs. Her live performances are always amazing.

    • @robinvolpi
      @robinvolpi 2 года назад +2

      @@AJZ0626 Is it nitpicking to point out what you yourself typed..... a "race thing"? Almost every right-wing provocateur and veiled bigot uses this 'phrase.' Seemed like an odd word choice. Particularly when your follow-up was a nicely expressed explanation.

    • @AJZ0626
      @AJZ0626 2 года назад +1

      @@robinvolpi I'm not aware how people on the far right talk about race. I do appreciate you letting me know that the rest was good.
      I didn't delve too much into the topic, because it's not my experience and I feel like it's not fair for me to try and explain the struggles of Black people. I just didn't see anyone explaining that this song is about more than hair. And I couldn't think of the proper word, in the moment, so "Thing" was what I wrote.
      I think it's important to know that not every word is chosen with a hidden agenda or meaning. Sometimes people can't find the proper words (lately I have struggled with proper words and I don't know why). I know the internet can be toxic and antagonistic, but just know that my intentions are good.
      If there's any suggestions you have for me, moving forward, I would greatly appreciate it. And to quote David "I hope you have a musical day 🙂"
