Thanks so much, Ladies!!!!! I bought a pair of jeans that had very specific stitching and distressing at the hem that matched the rest of the jeans, and I wanted to keep that so the hem would still look original. I am NOT a seamstress. I do not even own a sewing machine, but I was able to watch another video and learned how to do a hand-sewn backstitch that looks just like it was sewn on a machine. Couldn't have done it without you two!!! Didn't even know this was possible! Love the end result!!!
You just blew my mind! Thank you, thank you! I'm 5 feet tall and, in my world, there is no such thing as pants that don't need hemming, (even in petite sized). Very helpful and professionally produced video!
Thank you!! Since my lovely little 400 year old German seamstress retired I have had NO luck finding another who would original hem jeans. They would write down original hem, but when I would get them back...just a flat cut and tack hem. This video is so easy to understand and someone with no sewing skills and a cheap sewing machine can rock some original hems!
This is the only instructional that I have seen so far that shows the top stitching just the same way that I do it. It makes sense to do it this way. I also tack the side seams, but I do it vertically instead of on the horizontal. I am happy to see this tutorial. Thank you.
So in other words, I've been doing it all wrong for years! Thank you SO much for this video. I had no problems at all with this method. It was fast, easy and the end-result looked very professional!
as a man whos not blessed with height lol.. jeans for someone who is 5'6 is always too long... defs going out to buy a sewing machine to do this to all my jeans asap. thanks ladies!
I'm 5'2", and I don't even bother with all that, I just find a good length to cut, and just cut them. No sewing. Yeah. I love the frilled ends. Very bohemian. 😁😊 But I might just do them like this for a change. 🤔🤔
Oh my Gosh! Do you know how long I've been looking for a great way to hem my jeans/pants/slacks? I'm only 5' 1/2" and my whole life I've had to buy petite length and then hem even after that. I never liked the way my clothes looked after hemming the old traditional way. You've solved my problem. I just purchased my first pair of "Levi's" because now I know I won't ruin the look of my jeans hemming them the only way I knew how to do it. Also, I got to create a new album here on youtube named "Sewing Tutorials" and you're my first save to that album. Definitely you've just created a sewing monster! :) You have certainly earned a new subscriber! Thank you so very much!!
Most people have one leg a tiny bit shorter than the other, so its best to pin each side. All together this has been the best "magic hem" tutorial I have found. It is nice thaot you showed several ways to finish the hem. Thanks so much ladies. Good work!
I have watched numerous videos of the same instructions. Yours is the best tutorial. Well explained and easy to follow. Right to the point. Thank you!!
Thanks so much for this video! Over the years many pairs of jeans were ruined by "tailors" who didn't know this technique...from now I'll do this myself!!! Thanks Ladies
Thanks girls, your video is one of the easiest to follow, I'm from Italy (Verona) and thanks to you I sewed my irst hem with a sewing machine and it was a pair of jeans keeping the original hem :-) Thaks a lot!!
This was a great video and good directions for hemming jeans which I used to hate to do. It is very easy and quick to do. Having the five options of finishing was an added plus. I have three hints that I would use when hemming another pair of jeans. I would definitely measure both pant legs at the same time before sewing the first one to make sure they are the same size. When sewing make sure the entire side seam is going the same way as the hem. I thought one of mine was going in the same direction and it wasn't. I started checking the side seam from the top of the jeans down to make sure the entire seam would end up going in the same direction once it was sewn. I did a zigzag stitch to stop the fray and on one leg I trimmed the material first before zigzagging and on the 2nd leg I zigzagged first and then trimmed and I think that was easer, or at least for me. I was able to cut a nicer looking even seam.
Thank you so much for making this video and sharing it with us! I can't tell you how many other videos I've watched and how many times I've tried to hem my jeans with the original hem. I NEVER could get it figured out! Now, I know this will work as I completely understand it.
I will be keeping an eye out for a old sewing machine or a cheap new one to try this.... 5ft 9 tall which is fairly average where I'm from, but I have a 27inch inside leg.... which is very small. Thanks!
Thank you so much for a super easy tutorial on how to hem jeans. I have watched several and for me, they were not easy. After watching yours though, I feel like I could manage hemming a pair of jeans, without ruining them.
I usually buy my clothes in petite size. But recently I bought a pair of jeans that didn’t offer a petite size.. they’re a little long. I never knew you could keep the original him. Going to try to shorten them this way thank you for the clear explanations.!!!
Awesome video!! I'm 33 x 31 in jeans but the ones I like only come in 33 x 32 somehow (bad luck) . So now I know how to turn them into 31 ! Thank you, you guys are awesome!
Thank you very much for this video. I just spent $60 to have the hem fixed for 6 pairs of Jeans and I would like to start doing it by myself. if you don't mind, could you please tell me the brand name and model of your sewing machine? Thanks a lot.
My jeans have been too long all my life, but I couldn't bring myself to cutting them and having them look hemmed - not a good look. Now I feel liberated... thank you!
When you say too stitch are you going through the several pieces of fabric on the top or are you seeing in the valley/ditch just above the hem with the other fabric?
very clear instructions ... wish you had been my sewing instructor in high school :-) just one thing...what do you mean by "serge the extra fabric away"? Thanks!!
You guys made that so easy!! I always just cut my jeans and then frayed the bottom (90s style) so it at least looked like I had done it on purpose and wasn't just messy because I hated how they looked when my grandma shortened them and I lost the original hem. I so rarely find jeans for short girls - just regulars or tall! This is awesome! :)
Just got two pairs of Kirkland jeans from Costco for husband and though they are the exact same brand and size, the new ones are 1" longer than his older jeans (same size, same brand). Sizes are all over the place, 32" is sometimes 31" so this video is a huge help.
I was cringing the entire time you were placing the pins. From the viewing point it looked like you were going to run your pins into your finger. Lol Great video - very simple and straightforward.
This was an AWESOME tutorial.. I'm a 41 year old wanting to teach myself how to sew and ladies.. you did an excellent job with explaining the steps including all the options.. Thanks for your help!!!!!! Now off to skinnify a few bootcuts for my teenage daughter ;) thanks again... More videos please!!
The information is really good but I wonder if you recorded this video with a stupid iPhone in vertical mode, why some people find to hard the landscape mode where it uses all screen.
how do I hem the jeans if the bottom of the jeans is wider than where I am heming them up to? Do I just snip off the extra fabric before I do the first stitch?
This is really helpful. I buy short length jeans and they're still too long. It's not like I wear heels all the time, and I hate when my pants drag on the ground. Thank you for making this, and it looks pretty easy.
Add me to the chorus of happy campers. I own a lot of cheap jeans that have contrasting stitching on the hems. Since my eyesight has never been all that it could be, contrasting stitching works better for me as I can actually tell it's there. :) Either way, great video! Thank you very much for your help.
Such a cool video, always wondered how the seamstress does it at the cleaners. I spend tons of money for my pants to get hemmed. This video is very helpful and informative. Thanks!
Okay so I've tried doing this but idk if I went to far from the original hem or I have to top stitch? When I unfold the pants they show a fold on the top of the pants I'm confused if it's supposed to be there. Or do I have to stitch exactly on the original hem ! Help me
Could you please show me what number i should adjust for my serger for jeans? All four threads please. I just bought a used one from craigslist. It is a Jaguar serger 208. thanks
I always bought jeans too long for me, this really help me, I tried this. but ofcourse my result is not as good as yours. I have sewing machine that I never use it because I don't know to use it. well. at least I try it eventhough the result is not too good but save my money.
H ladies,,, my question is option #1 with the Fray Check. Will this method last as long, going through the dryer, as the x-tra hemming methods? And does anyone use pinking shears to cut the excess off? and why.
Hi Divas, I have a new question. I have done 2 pairs of jeans. One came out just fine, but the other didn't. Here is my problem. I ended up with x-tra fabric scrunched up in the hem. here is a link to RUclips to ,hopefully better explain this. ruclips.net/video/LUAdG-VXTeY/видео.html
It's a slower process, but yes. I, as a single dad, used to hand stitch skirts for my daughters. A hem in a pair of jeans would be no different. Enjoy!

Yep. I'm 5'6" and have a 33 waist. Store bought pants are always too long. :'(
try being 4’11 😩
@@annasiebenaler997 haha I'm 5'0 I feel you... Always go for Rider jeans in my size short and I don't even need to cut them.

thanks! I just watched 5 videos on this and this is by far the most helpful and to the point!
I never had problems with long jeans until the last few years. Thank you. This is great.
You girls are awesome! Even an old lady like myself can easily follow your very clear, simple instructions. Thanks!
Great video! By far this is the most helpful one for me. So, do I need a to buy a walking foot for denim?
Great video. What size needle and thread do you recommend for heavy jeans like carhartt bib overalls?
Wonderful! I watched so many videos on this. This is the best video, most efficient, most effective. With multiple options discussed. Thanks so much.

Plan on trying this tomorrow. I have been sewing for over 50 years and hopefully this cuts down on time.
Thanks for the option/s.
Clever!
I suggest any further videos you shoot horizontally.
The only man here! Much easier than I thought. Thanks girls!
Nope, not the only one. I did follow directions and they came like a pro, did use the zigzag at the end. Wow, thanks.
PrismEdits ...add another one......bought a cheapie sewing machine at the Sunday markets....now i gotta learn to sew :/
I surgically had a penis attached to myself in an attempt to fit in with a niche of men in the comment section of a sewing video

Does the fray check dry hard? Will it be scratchy? Thank you so much for this video.
It dries a little harder than the jeans but doesn't bother the skin. Thanks!
Excellent tutorial. Followed your instructions, and am very pleased with the results. Thanks for sharing.
This is a great tutorial. How would you do this on flared bottoms where they don't want to lose the flare. I hope that makes sense.
I usually buy my clothes in petite size. But recently I bought a pair of jeans that didn’t offer a petite size.. they’re a little long. I never knew you could keep the original him. Going to try to shorten them this way thank you for the clear explanations.!!!

The information is really good but I wonder if you recorded this video with a stupid iPhone in vertical mode, why some people find to hard the landscape mode where it uses all screen.
Does the hem stay put, or does it flip up from where it was hemmed? I guess I could try this on an old pair of jeans first.
@do it yourself divas- Which sewing machine do you use
My husband is using your video to hem his pants. Thanks! It was a great video!
Will I be able to hem a pair of jeans that are a wider at the leg where I want to shorten them to than the original hem?

how do I hem the jeans if the bottom of the jeans is wider than where I am heming them up to? Do I just snip off the extra fabric before I do the first stitch?
Does it need to be the same color thread as the thread in the jeans

How long does the fray check last--does it last for the life of the jeans? Anyone have any ideas on that?
thanks! I love the way you show for marking the hem - it allows me to do it on my own.
Thanks ladies-great video and especially for guys like myself whose skills leave a bit to be desired!
This video is the best! I always have several extra inches in jeans because I'm so short, this will save me a lot of ruined jean bottoms
Fantastic Video.. The best one that I found and I searched for awhile before attempting it.
Can I use any other glue besides fray check?
Thanks ladies I always have issues finding jeans that fit may give it a try

I just fixed my jeans thank you so much! God Bless you! Happy New year!!
awesome tutorial! but needed a closer look at the end results on each hem.
Very nice tutorial. Quick and to-the-point.
Concise and clear tutorial ! Thanks for sharing!
can u use this method for any pants ???
Can you use this method for different materials, say.. yoga pants?
What if you dont have a sewing machine?, what should you do?
Could you please show me what number i should adjust for my serger for jeans? All four threads please. I just bought a used one from craigslist. It is a Jaguar serger 208. thanks
Would these techniques work for wide leg pants as well?
If you take in the side seam a little it may work. I've never tried it.
Thank you for such a great fix to having to always cut about 3 inches of my jeans.
You two are awesome! Thank you for making this easy on a single dad!
The one which is more easy than all the others.thank you.
Would this work on bootcut jeans?
Monica Valdez yes
How expensives are sowing machines i would like to learn how to do this i have short legs.
I hemmed my jeans today, turned out great! Thanks!
I always bought jeans too long for me, this really help me, I tried this. but ofcourse my result is not as good as yours. I have sewing machine that I never use it because I don't know to use it. well. at least I try it eventhough the result is not too good but save my money.

This was very helpful! Thank you.
Nice work! I’m going to try this on my jeans.
H ladies,,, my question is option #1 with the Fray Check. Will this method last as long, going through the dryer, as the x-tra hemming methods? And does anyone use pinking shears to cut the excess off? and why.
oops,,, and gents.
Markus Y the fray check lasts a long long time. Longer than the jeans did! Hope that helps.
good to hear,,,,, thanks for the fast answer. How ab out the heat of the iron? long long time too?
Markus Y yup it’s all good 👌🏻 never had an issue but I don’t iron much.
Hi Divas, I have a new question. I have done 2 pairs of jeans. One came out just fine, but the other didn't. Here is my problem. I ended up with x-tra fabric scrunched up in the hem. here is a link to RUclips to ,hopefully better explain this. ruclips.net/video/LUAdG-VXTeY/видео.html
i dont have sewing machine, can i just sew it by hand using backstitches?? i'm just a beginner at sewing :D
Brenton Akoname before They didnt have a machine so
It's a slower process, but yes.
I, as a single dad, used to hand stitch skirts for my daughters. A hem in a pair of jeans would be no different.
Enjoy!
Hi great to see a left handed trimming the fabric😉
wow great video so easy as it looks but i will try to do it this way thanks for the tutorial
can you only ORIGINAL hem denim jeans? Or can you originally hem any type of pants? A Tailor I went to said only jeans can be originally hemmed. The rest can only be a regular hem.
ANYONE KNOW???
+AT 7 This works for any pants as long as they don't flare out.
