You write beautifully, Federflug. The thin down strokes are so elegant! Before watching this video for the first time, I was concentrating on heavily shaded down strokes. Watching you write made me realize I like the thinner strokes much more, they, along with your skill, bring such refinement and grace to the text! I've been coming back periodically to watch again and again. Thank you.
Thank you very much for your kind comment - it makde my day :)! There is nothing wrong with thick down strokes of course - but I personally prefer the (to my eyes) more elegant and thinner version most of the time! Btw I am offering a give-away with a calligraphy starter kit at the moment, if you're interested check federflug.com/learning/. Thank you!
YES!!! Me too!! My brain wants to make really thick down strokes, but after watching this, there is such beauty in something that is not "as wide as the tines will go." :) Thank you for making this video and keeping it in real time. It is so helpful to watch both the nib and your hand in each part of a letter, I come back to this frequently to re-study.
I'm glad you find it helpful - check the flourishforum.com, there are many more helpful resources to learn, also some on my website ;): federflug.com/about/resources/
Thank you! Sadly I don't have much time for videos these days. I frequently post short videos though on my Instagram account instagram.com/federflugcalligraphy/
As I looked at minuscule and the fingers making the artful strokes they actually looked familiar to me. As I looked further, I was correct it is Federflug! It wonderful seeing your work again! Semper Fidelis
Is there any way that you prevent your nib tines from getting occasionally stuck in/on the paper? or is it just the nib that you're using. And I love your videos by the way!
This was asmr-like; thank you. What paper are you writing on? It looks like some sort of transparent practice paper; I'm just beginning, so I'm not sure what's out there in terms of proper practice paper.
Thank you! I think it's my favourite practice paper - it's layout paper »Boris« by Borden & Riley. You can get it from Johnnealbooks or Paperinkarts - if you're in the USA ;).
Thank you :)! You mean at the end, the "etc."? That is short for "et cetera" (meaning "and so forth", from Latin). The writing style is English Roundhand or Copperplate. Thans for asking!
+Jean-Pierre Bovendeerd Thanks for your message! I use a guidesheet that allows to write with a 1:1 or a 2:3 ratio (in which case the ascenders and descenders are overlapping). Most 18th century exemplars use a 1:1 ratio, and they also use much more rarely looped ascenders and descenders than more recent versions. I was testing here a bit ;).
Thanks for liking my work! I was using a french vintage nib, very similar to the modern Brause 66EF nib. You'll have no trouble to flex it much more like I did here!
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing. But I have some questions. I'm from Taiwan(in Asia), I don't know much about alphabet writing. What is it after "v"? And are there two types of "z"? Thank you so much.

@@magicalwritingnew2896 That’s something I don’t hear very often ;) - but thanks! I find India fascinating, I just watched "Bombay Begums" on Netflix, but I have no idea if it is just a bit realistic …
It’s not a ballpoint pen, it’s a dip nib in an oblique holder (you need to dip it n ink repeatedly to write with it. There are lots of links and informations on my website here: federflug.com/about/resources/index.html - have fun!
@@oneitalia2312 No, it’s first a v and then a w. This sort of w looks actually like an n where you pull the exit stroke up to the x-height and write the same small loop like in b or v. Other discribed, write a normal overturn, and immediately add a v. I hope that makes sense!

Thank you! That is a rather archaic (historical) form of w after the v. Yes, two kinds of z. There are variants of many letters possible.
