His control of tone is very consistent. Wow
Yes, that struck me too. You can sense the amount of thought and hard work that has gone into the performance.
This piece and his technique have an other-worldly aura. Just magnificent!
The first pianist to make sense of this sound world for me.
I wish I could "like" this more than once. Stunning.
When you play this I hear things I haven't heard before when listening to others play this piece. Extraordinarily beautiful!
It’s been one of those days so I’m just going to play this in a loop...
A very "dreamy" piece. Beautiful.
I wish this Etude would find its way to wider broadcast media. It could be a hit on some chart.
I discovered Glass thanks to your interpretations. You are awesome
I feel the influence of the first Prelude and fugue of Bach.
I've been listening to this at least 100 times in the last months
⭐⭐⭐
Absolutely transported by Vikingur's Philip Glass! Being rooted in J.S., Ludwig and Amadeus, this is a revelation!
The very best interpretation I have yet heard of this piece.
It's a more millennial interpretation.
Way too slow and meccanico for me. If you listen to Glass himself play it he plays with much more freedom, rubato, and speed. Glass plays this piece in 3:30 whereas it takes this pianist 5:50. I get the tendency in minimalism to gravitate to longer, drawn out structures, but this is Feldman-esque postmodernism interpretation.
@@CharlesZoll Very interesting, I will make a point to look up Glass' version. Admittedly, I am less accustomed to music from later periods of "Classical" music, so I should really develop my ear more in that area. I sincerely appreciate the insight. I discovered this piece after watching a ballet that was set to it, so I wasn't really listening "pure." But your thoughtful commentary inspired me to look into more versions.
TheDanrach there’s a cd of glass playing the etudes. That’s the best version.
@@jeremiahsalyer7784 Thank you so much! I'll look for that!
앞으로가 더욱 기대되는 음악가
I played this piece for years. After that interpretation everything changed for me. Thank you for that fresh feeling. It gaves me a new perspective.

Excelente, gracias!!?
Complete harmony
Bleak, relaxing & beautiful
A beautiful song beautifully played.
Mit Abstand die beste Aufnahme der 2. Etüde. Großartig!
Very beautiful
Fantastic.
Excellente interprétation. Le tempo est parfaitement juste. Envoûtant. Bravo Vikingur !
He makes it look so effortless!!! 💛💛💛
Just adding I'm so addicted to listening to this right now 🙃
Bellissima
Thanks to Ólafsan and Yellow Lounge Berlin.
I’ve not heard this piece played with that intonation before. I liked it. The brubaker rendition was my favourite prior to hearing this!
Superb pianism.
Exquisito!
Well done!
Beautiful! Greetings:-)

😭❤️
Isso é brincadeira gente !!!!
crazy dynamic and tone......otherworldly
👏 🎉 👏 🎉 👏 🎉
Great performance. Reminds me of the movie 'The Illusionist'
Geniale Interpretation. Wäre gerne selber auf die Lösungen gekommen.
👏
nice
Mind numbing bilge
That blasted cough!
At first this video popped up, I was like, who is this guy, bad composure playing the piano sticking his neck out, he is out to get himself some spinal pain in the neck, and what is wrong with the music, why is it so slow and not changing, but as soon as his right hand hit the fist note, suddenly I was dragged into this psychedelic outta space, or feeling stuck in time or dream or something, I found myself kept listening after several minutes, and obsessively searching for Philip Glass in the next few days, buying his etude book, begging to play his piece, sharing his Video. That is what a as-if digitally multi-tracked thoughtfully composed music adding full acoustic music instrument’s flavor can do to modern listeners .
I can totally relate to that
I’ve been practicing several of these sublime glass etudes - this particular one has imaginary notes to play! And this guy makes you hear them! They are not there!
You get it
❤️
"posture"
Thanks I am in the first phase of your experience.... But I am here to stay to see how it goe
If this video was a vinyl recording, it would be worn entirely free of grooves.
So, so, so beautiful.
🙋🏻
Philip Glass (our very own American composer) is unique - see 'The Illusionist (2006)' : Memo to V.O. : You"re the Greatest: Please come back to us, we
need your commitment and skills much more than the Germans. God Bless you!
This is truly an American sound.
Philip Glass is and always was Australian!
Ha ha. What would his parents say, the day he was born, in Baltimore, Maryland?
@@robertstorey6969 why he is labeled as an American composer in all of his bio?
@@robertstorey6969australia does not exist. All australians are paid actors by Nasa
Mi versión en piano suena como un guarén al lado de esta.
why does this remind me of zelda
Fairy Fountain Theme
It's a truly beautiful piece, but it hurts me to say that Miaslaw Skroryk wrote it first.
What piece?
@@dariocaporuscio8701 Glass's Etude no' 2. The main theme is very similar to Skoryk's Piano Partita no' 5. I say this as someone who loved Glass's Etudes.
There is a similarity in the opening accompaniment figure but that’s all. The Partita is completely different in style and melodic material.
Technically outstanding, absurdly rushed.
wonderful clarity.......but the tempo!! way too fast........slow down dude:)
Zzz
Lovely texture, complete absence of imagination.
An 'etude' consisting of two different chords. Lounge music.
Rushed.
Hardly. How slow do you think it should go? Glass plays it at like eighth=380 and this guy is like eighth=250. Way too slow.
Glass intends the piece to be played at a much higher tempo...
Laughable.
Nonsense Ethan Hill.
All I know is - I really liked it!
This is played too slowly and apologetically. Minimalism is in your face, not in the background.
This is written too carelessly and ignorantly. Minimalism has a huge variety of moods like any movement of classical music in Western Civilization.
This is terribly mundane and uninspired. Terrible
Who cares about your opinion?
I disagree. Listen to his Rach 3, Glass etude no 6 and bach.
