Is that dead coral on the back of the aquarium? I ask because I am thinking of buying a really cheap 7 gallon cube aquarium that was a saltwater aquarium. The seller states that there is dead coral on the back of the tank so it needs a good cleaning. The picture shows what I would describe as a thick whitish substance adhered to the back. Do you think that citric acid trick work on this? How about Barkeepers Friend (cause I have that in my kitchen)?
@@ReefDudes Will the citrus acid take it off? What about Barkeepers Friend? Like I said, I have the latter already so I would prefer to use that. I would really like to know what you think. I don't want to buy this aquarium just to sink a ton of money cleaning it up. :)
0.5 cup citric acid per gallon of fresh water is the standard ratio for cleaning equipment 👍🏾
And like always this video was also superb and definitely informative.
What perfect timing for this video, just got a used tank.
Excellent!
Can you make the citric acid in to a spray bottle and then just spray and clean the tank
I haven’t tried but it would likely take manny applications to keep it wet
Is this safe on silicone seals?
How do you get rid of the citric acid after it's clean? It won't leave harmful toxins in the tank?
Thank you!
Just rinse it out and dry it after
@@ReefDudes Thank you for the super fast reply!!
will citric acid damage any of the Tank seals? Just picked up a Red Sea 425XL and want to flush the entire system like this. TIA!
Nope. No issues that I know of

Its coraline alage. The seller likely has some kind of encrusting coral on the back wall.

Good job bro 👏 keep up
What did you do with the sand at the bottom of the tank?
it was removed, cleaned and re-used in a future tank
When filling this up, tap water is fine to use with citric acid ? Or rodi water is needed?
Tap is fine for cleaning purposes
how many times did you rinse it after removing the citric acid water
One real good one then let it dry out
Awesome idea
When giving a uptade on your peninsula 7225 tank just waiting for the uptade dude.
Ok next week ill do one!
Thanks dude
Wow, that was easy 👍🏽
Can you even put your hand in the citric acid without any harm
Vinegar soaked paper towels overnight is way cheaper and equally effective
Not sure if it’s easier but works too I used vinegar una spray bottle in the past
Citric acid is the best. Anyone with sensitive skin might want to wear gloves. It can be tough on your skin if you’re in the tank for a while.
ITS better chloridric ácid HCL
That’s the stronger version :)
Deven if you ever need to clean a used tank "toughly" again try a switchblade and wear a leather jacket! 😜
Wet Wazor Bwade
That’s what happens when filming at 1am and your tired and sick :P
First! :D
