A lot of pro drivers have problems drifting the R35, Tiff?... easy peasy...
Remember kids, if you can drive a manual rear wheel drive Porsche, then you can drive anything.
That's laughable. You could do that with any American Muscle Mustang, Camaro, Aussy's Menaro (Now defucted Pontiac GTO) or Nissan 350/370Z manual RWD.. Toyota's 86GT(Scion FRS/Subaru BRZ) M3's, Honda S2000.....the list goes on...... to learn much better car control. RR/RWD there's a reason why there's not more car like it. It's because of the poor weight balance and only Pee Brand loyalist would think it's better....in their own mind.
***** yeah, but for the money you spend on a 911 turbo s you can get 2 GTR's and a BRZ.. Or you can get a gtr, modify it and kick every Porsche's ass, and still have a comfortable 4 seater everyday car :P
***** Now now, kids.... Come on obviously Michael Graff is just wanted to justify his love of VW Beetle that catches fires even in stock trim (991 GT3) LOL..... so I doubt a stock GTR would do that. Oh did I forget to mentioned that the Toyota TS040 Hybrid beating the Porsche 919 Hybrid in a 6hrs endurance race not one time but both Silverstone and Spa? And the reason of that is because the Porsche broke down? Hmmm.. LOL
GT-R's are fast and can be very reliable, I have driven one and holy hell, but all and all the car requires no talent and therefore is not a driver's car, I have a built Evo X and I can tell you with my somewhat talent paws can tear up most GT-R's. It's not about the car, its about the driver.

HAHA you're right, the tested Nissan's MSRP is $112,000 the Carrera S MSRP is 98K, also puts the Porsche at a $14,000 disadvantage.
Thelastmag.....the nissan you can take ur kids to soccer practice in. The GT3 is a race car for the street for multi millionaires. There is nothing fair at all about that comparison.
Or at least with an awd Porsche C4S with PDK...and.. yes, it can carry kids in the back seats. The GTR is an AWD car also, so I agree the comparison is definitely not equal.

Crazy that this isn't even the Turbo 911 and it was still only 3 seconds slower. A 911 Turbo or GT3 would spank that GTR
Just about any supercar it is always 2 or 3 seconds slower than gt-r lol
Astralwurksdk Three seconds is a lot of time to make up for. One can't simply assume that another version of the same car could make it up so easily. This isn't a drag race after all.

Tiff Needell is such an amazing driver, by far my favourite car reviewer. Bloody legend! Considering the amount of power, torque and lack of AWD on a damp track, that Porsche did really well to finish only 2secs from the GTR"s time. I would take the Porsche, in black please!

The takeaway from this video is that a twin turbo-charged Nissan is barely faster 'round the track than a non-turbo-charged Porsche with an old school manual gearbox which shifts slower [but is more fun].
Therefore I can't help but laugh at the Nissan fan-boys saying "Nissan bedst."

Almost 3 seconds definitely isnt 'barely' faster on the track... it's a big difference. Had it been a longer track with more straights the Porsche would have been utterly slaughtered
Considering it's twin-turbo charged and the Porsche isn't... Yeah, I'd say that's barely faster. And you also can't leave out the fact that the Porsche is manual [slower old-school shifting gearbox] and the GT-R is paddle-shift.
And had it been a longer track with more straights what would that have proven; that a twin-turbo car beats a non-turbo with the same number of cylinders? What would that be called "The DUH Challenge?"
Let's see it "utterly slaughter" a 911 Turbo S PDK [ON ANY TRACK, EVEN DRAG].

"supercar killer"? The only thing it has is off-the-line acceleration, and that's only if you're standing still, and you somehow manage to convince your opponent in a real car to wait for you to put it on launch-control. It doesn't have very much left in it at speeds over 100 MPH. It also oversteers too much, and it's just too big and heavy, and its brakes are unimpressive too. It's also ugly and boxy; looks like a sedan not a supercar which it wants to pretend to be. The GT-R is like the fat ugly girl on the catwalk -- no one wants to see that.
If Nissan wanted to make a fast car they should have made it look like one -- not this thing.
Now that was a great battle! good to see Tiff in action. Great to see the nissan driven with the controls off and struggling against oversteer, don't get that from video presenters often if ever.

Without any doubts I would choose Nissan GTR.
Why, I doubt you have driven either, if you had you would realise that whilst the GTR is faster, the Porsche is far more fun to drive in every way!
mazdaman1980 Porsche may be more fun to you, but for me, Nissan GTR wins and this is MY opinion. I love Japanese cars and Nissan GTR is one of the best cars overall.

mazdaman1980 Because for me, Nissan GTR is a fantastic looking car, it is produced by Japanese people who are true artists. Also, GTR is awesome in anime/manga (I love anime/manga), NISMO company is fantastic, GTR looks better in drifting than 911 in my opinion. I choose Nissan GTR because it is my dream car, it looks awesome in Tokyo at night. I love the interior of this car and I love the tail lights. For me, 911 is overrated and GTR is not. Some people can say - hey it's Porsche and Nissan is just Nissan, but for me GTR is sweet, sexy and anime-looking car if you know what I mean.
As much as I am a gtr fan, let's get a real pro driver to see real laptimes... where's the stig when you need him

Tiff raced Formula 1 and had numerous rides at Le Mans. And his racing resume is much better than the Stig's. The Stig now is on 5th Gear with Tiff, his last name is Collins. Shaddup about the Stig already...

Canniballistix Much closer. Tiff appeared to struggle to combine control and gear shifting in the 911. The PDK isn't there just for tech. It's there to make the car comfortable and easy to drive going *all out*.

They were trying to compare cars of the same price. The Turbo S is around $65,000 more than the Nissan GT-R. With that price difference you could get an AMS package added that would boost performance to near Bugatti figures.
question, if they are trying to get a good lap time why do they turn off traction control? won't that just make them slide more and lose time?

You have to consider most racing drivers don't like traction control and feel like they can do better without it. Someone should test the GTR like that
i understood that it was faster with the T/C off. check 5:52 on the video.
but this was the 2008 version of the car. they changed much in the 2012 systems, so on reflection, with this car, you are probably right. thanks

In the end it's, not the car, but the locations and the experiences you achieve by driving them.
Now you're after my heart! I miss Tiff & Vicky on 5th Gear. I used to watch every episode, but just like the cool cars, they like to deny us some cool shows in the US too. :-(

Porsche is more of a driver's car because of that manual gearbox, it even makes Tiff more concentrated on track rather that talking.
I can understand that, for me it's the 911, quality and refinement, but the GTR looks stunning when I see them in car parks for example, especially in black. Enjoy!

I don't know about anyone else, as much as I love the R35 GTR, the 911 in this video looked fun to drive... He was getting sideways with no issues.
People buy sports cars to have fun with them.
And if someone finds the GTR to be more fun than a 911, then so be it.

That makes Nissan all the more impressive, humble manufacturer quietly selling better value for money cars (which ultimately speak for themselves) Personally I love my Nissan 370Z and would love to own a Porsche Cayman R and 991 Carrera S manual.

WHERE DID THIS COME FROM?! I subscribed to Evo some time ago, and this wasn't in my subscription box. I only found it just now after watching the new Boxster review.
Even though the GTR won, you could just tell how involved Tiff was when he was driving the 911. Both are incredible but I would take the drivers car even if it is slower :)
Plz, do expatiate on how the pdk is much better than the GT-Rs DCT.
Compare the current 997 911 Turbo S 60 time to the current GTR time and tell me which is faster
wow, its the first time I've seen tiff in 1080p and good god, racing takes a toll on a person's body.
Unfortunately got rid of the 911 early this year, now missing it so will buy another next year probably

because of tiff's driving ability, with the traction off will bring him to the limit of the car and tyres. where for normal drivers, traction control will bring you closer to the limit than you would without it. in fact, a normal driver would crash before getting close to the limit of the car.

yes but the turbo is much heavier because it will most likely remain awd, so it could be more interesting than you think, also its a better comparison because the GT-R was benchmarked against the turbo and the 2013 model in this vid was updated specfically to go up against the 991 turbo

I do agree that we should respect all cars for what they are and I truly do. However, when the new Nissan GTR came out a few years back, I did see a commentary made by a sport car magazine (I believe it was Car Driver magazine) saying that Nissan Engineers used the 996 Porsche turbo as a starting point and "mimic". Nissan engineers even has a couple of Porsche turbos in their facility as mentioned by the editors. Even though the Skyline has been in existence for a long time, but not the new GTR.
Why not the PDK...??????
