"It is not piracy. It is salvage." --Filk Zombie Видеоклипы
sixty fkken eight bloody songs I had to comb through just to get to this bloody earworm not letting me sleep in peace.
What were the other songs?
I first heard this song over 5 years ago and still remember the whole lyrics. Truly a lost diamond
👍 I've been reading the novel and singing the song for a third of a century. Brings back fond memories.
I was born to a merchanter family
Our ship was proud but small
We plied our course through the star swelled seas
Fate was master of us all
When luck turned bad, oh how papa swore
Our family died that day
Victims of a border war
In a Mazianni raid
But this ship's the only home
That I have ever known
And I curse my luck for the price I pay
Always on my own, through the Union ports I roam
And a Merchanter's Luck is the game I play
The pirates left our ship for dead
but three of us survived
My cousin Ross, I a child of ten, and old Mitri still alive
But one by one, I've lost them too
Now the ship is all I own
The way things are I may lose her soon
And then I'll be alone
But this ship's the only home
That I have ever known
And I curse my luck for the price I pay
Always on my own, through the Union ports I roam
And a Merchanter's Luck is the game I play
From station to station, now I must creep
I barter, cheat, and lie
While watch upon watch, I don't dare to sleep
I hear my family cry
Some day soon fate will bring me down
I'm tired and sick inside
I've run so long there's no place to run
And no place left to hide
But this ship's the only home
That I have ever known
And I curse my luck for the price I pay
I'm always on my own, through the Union ports I roam
And a Merchanter's Luck is the game I play
Yes, a Merchanter's Luck is the game I play
Literally reading Merchanter's Luck right now, great stuff.
Hell of a contrast in tone between this and Luck of the Rileys.
Oh, wow. This is like the missing soundtrack to every Elite type game ever. Not sure if I'm a fan, but I'm really glad just that it exists.
just finished the audio book, the writing is so good no wonder it spawned such amazing music
Mazian himself dislike this video, don't ya know? What an honor.
Awesome song, thanks for saving it!
Who sings this? I honestly can't tell whether they are a high-voiced man or a lower-voiced woman.
My instinct says man, but im not sure either
I'm guessing a man just because the story is based on is from the point of view of a man
Appears to be sung by Joey Shoji
Guess waht ... the old battered ship's name was the Antelope...
Really? Man I really need to read some Cherryh.
Just a ref to another filk song where an old battered ship named the Antelope saves people by the hundred at the price of her captain and pilot.
@@Mutos4 yeah I know "Some kind of hero"; great song. I could picture this to be a younger Captain Jed. Then with "Luck of the Riley's" it'd be a perfect trio of related stories
@@abacch Yes you got it, couldn't remember the title 😊
@@abacch I'll look for "Luck of the Riley" then!
Le Cygne
Great song.
Quality bad tho.
I think it adds to it's retro sci-fi effect.
@@333f_ran Now what is a retro sci-fi effect? A wormhole to the past in the future?
@@NICEFINENEWROBOT past visions of the future. Fallout, Verne, stuff like that.
🤣 sounds fine to me! But then I've been listening to it and singing it since it came out.
It sounds right because that's how I heard it, on cassette. You kids and your MP3 and apple music... you haven't lived until you have recorded an LP onto cassette and you have to do it at night when everybody else is asleep because the stylus on the record player picks up vibrations and floor from people walking.😁👍
Quit being such a spoiled brat,
The quality is fine!
It's not an in person performance, but who really cares?
