Not sure why youtube all of a sudden highlighted this playlist, but it made my day.
Same thing happened to me. Also made my day. :)
I went looking for it: still as great as when my mom played it for me as a kid!

Finity's End is a far travlling ship
and wide space is the deep that she knows
infinity's black is the embalm she bears

The stuff of dead suns is her iron and her steel
In a nova's light she was made!

The company thought that they'd make them a law,

James Robert the first was her captain that day,
He sent to all ships in the deep:
"Farewell to their ports and good luck to them all,
For what they can't catch they can't keep!"

And wonder to tell Mother Earth changed her mind
And called back her magistrates too.
For no ship would haul beyond Alpha or Helles,

Then the Union side came with their ships and their guns,
And closed off the ports one and all!
"Y'all haul for us now", the Union Man said,
"You'll come and you'll go where we call."

Now Capn James Robert was vexed and annoyed
He sent out the word like before.
"We're free ships and crews and we go where we please,"
"We'll haul you to Helles and no more."
Then union side haulers like Canvas and Fey,
Bearing gold coronas and fame,
From Union side ports to the wide deep of space,
To Finity's End they all came.
And no sun can hold us and keep us for long,
for infinity's ours and infinity's free
And no star can hold her and no world's her own
For Finity's End is she
"Ah well now" said Earth, "you must come to our side,"
"For there is no place else you can be"
But Capn James Roberts still sent out the word,
that all ships from now on must be free!
So no ship would come, and no true ship would go,
But traitors Shaleen and her kind.
Shaleen drifts in pieces, around Shaleen point,
And never a rest will she find

In the fourth stanza, it's: "We'll haul you to Hell and no more."/ Then union side haulers like Candice and Fey.
"No ship would haul beyond alpha or helles" should be "No ship would haul beyond alpha or pell" Pell station is a major part of the alliance-union universe
Now this is what I call a cargo strike
When you augment a cargo strike with a torpedo strike, it tends to get your point across a good deal faster . . . .
ah what a cool name, I just can't get over how well this song/ship is named. Another sign of the brilliance of the great filk bards :)

The name c.j cherryh above the titular finitys end is the name of the author.
There is whole books about pell station and finitys end and signy mallory

There is a tune: I wrote both. Dunno if I can write the musical notation: last time I wrote in notation was, oh, more than 50 years ago. But it starts with an E# for four notes and rises to A# for four quarter notes, back to E# and down to D, and it’s pretty simple. You could hammer it out on a piano and add appropriate glissandos and gracenotes, and you’d probably find it. Leslie Fish recorded it, but she changed the melody, and I prefer my own. 😉

Not quite sure where to start, nonetheless. I'm a fan of Cherryh, but much of her stuff is before my time. It's always an adventure searching for her stuff at used bookshops.
There is audiobooks now on audible.
Saves you the trouble of tracking down a n old library copy of the books.
My copy of 40 000 in gehenna has stamps and stickers all over it.

C J Cherryh 's stories sung by Leslie Fish.. You can't ask for more.
Ignoring the obvious universe mismatch, this feels like it'd fit right into Firefly
Freedom and independence above all, roaming from world to world with your ship being home...
The idea of a government coming to take your stuff and tell you what to do, answered by flying beyond their reach...
It basically sings "You Can't Take The Sky From Me", all it lacks is "Serenity" replacing "Finity's End" and it's perfect
This is a call back to a book isn't it? There was a series of books about Infinity... but hell if I've been able to find it without knowing the name or the author. =__=
Finity's End is a science fiction novel written by the American science fiction and fantasy author C. J. Cherryh
Some of the songs in this series also remind me of stuff from Down Below Station, which features political crisis and the people left to fend for themselves on the reaches do.

All the songs are inspired by Cherryh books in the union-alliance universe... when I found this music I just had to re-read them again
