    It's like a piece of art - not the engine, this very episode.

    A engine take apart has never been this sexy. Great video.

      That 205 engine a couple weeks back feels personally insulted now. 🤣

    I´m really looking forward to the next episode. I love both your storytelling and your craftsmanship. I have to get started on my 205 GTI 1,9 that’s been sitting idle in my garage for the last 10 years!

    Mmm. worrying title. I have my 951 engine in pieces, so I will watch in case there is a "don't do this" moment. In my experience, whatever happens, the 944 engine is recoverable as long as the alusil bores and cylinder tubes top faces are ok. Fingers crossed hey?

      The 3.0 blocks are less durable and need oversizing more often. The 2.5 N/A if kept well almost never truly dies. The infrequent oilchanges on this one gave some premature wear. If it was a perfect rebuild I‘d gone oversize, but as a standard street build it was within spec.

      I saw to many broken 951 engines because the third piston dont always gets oil! So you have to modify the oil bay or put more oil that you need it! And sometimes people put to much boost without a proper balancing and reinforcing the engine! Is a delicate engine to handle

    Fidanza makes a lightweight aluminum flywheel for the 944. I've got one on my car, along with a 7 puck clutch. It really changed the feel of the car. Real snappy.

      The cost to import one of those to Germany was just not sensible for this kind of rebuild and unfortunately there is nothing within the EU available atm...

      @@OnlyARoadtripAway gotcha, makes sense. I was able to get lucky and find a used one in decent shape from a Porsche graveyard.
      But awesome build and video!

    Did they never change the oil?

      Some seals were dated 2003, so I presume the oil was last changed then…

    Wow that sludge, was it still running on the orginal oil 😂?

    • @OnlyARoadtripAway
      @OnlyARoadtripAway  Год назад

      No idea, but I presume no one bothered doing one and even if - that sludge was so thick even abrasive scrubbing sometimes wasn‘t enough.

      Alledegly yes, although I didn‘t try. It was destined for a rebuild either way.

    This is definitely the most fucked 944 engine I’ve seen. And I tore apart a motor that had a piston with a chunk missing.
