    • @ampersand055
      @ampersand055 7 лет назад +1

      Yes, it would be fun to make it and mess with it, but the problems with making liquid helium is the fact that it is near impossible to have it turn into a liquid state, since its boiling point (the temperature that helium vaporizes at) is an insanely low -452 degrees Fahrenheit (or -268.9 degrees Centigrade,) the lowest of any element on the periodic table. Besides, it is extremely hard to find on earth, and the price is rising fast. The price rose 70% in a mere 13 years.

    • @ampersand055
      @ampersand055 7 лет назад +1

      Ah, I see. Sarcasm or not, there will ALWAYS be a 9 year old saying, "Wow! Helium! That fun stuff that is in balloons and makes you sound like a chipmunk! If Grant can make liquid oxygen, he should be able to make anything a liquid!" and then spams comments begging him to make liquid helium.
      (Not implying that you are that said 9 year old, but I know someone other than you is out there in the vast realms of RUclips that is 9 and thinks liquid helium is easy and cheap to make at home)

    Having been a Cryogenics technician in the Marine Corp airwing and also having a BS Mechanical Engineering degree all I can say is the conditions in which you are playing with LOX is extremely dangerous. Now I can't see your boots(I hope you have LOX boots on) but if you step on a puddle of LOX with normal rubber soled boots, IT CAN AND IT WILL BLOW YOUR LEG CLEAN OFF. LOX combined with ANY type of fuel source(no match or spark needed) can cause an extremely hot, violent and dangerous fire. Ive seen the dangers first hand.

    Burning styrofoam is beyond incredibly dangerous. The fumes mainly consist of Styrene, which can cause eye irritation, headache, fatigue and muscle weakness, and will also affect the kidneys and blood; and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) which will has been linked to short-term symptoms like eye irritation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and confusion, and long-term symptoms like kidney and liver damage and cataracts.

      Yuletuude Person the gasoline would ether freeze or if enough pressure is present from the oxygen boiling it could ignite

      Absolutely _not._
      LOX and gasoline can form a sort of jelly, with 50 times the detonating power of TNT, and rather touchy.
      When it formed accidentally in early rocket tests, everyone moved _waaayyyy_ back, and would just wait it out until it evaporated naturally.

      Liquid oxygen is used in a lot of applications. If you have liquid O2 then you have almost triple the amount of useable oxygen in a tank if not more. You can breath O2 when it's not in liquid form. Mix with a little nitrogen and bam you got breathable air.

      Oxygen it self is not flammable so you need another fuel source that when mixed with the oxygen is combustive and able to produce lift

      Ethan Ferns yes but with concentration of oxygen around it it will burn more vigorously correct me if I'm wrong but oxygen doesn't actually burn it simply supports burning causing any flame with an actual fuel source to burn brighter

    • @zacharycchen
      @zacharycchen 7 лет назад

      @ Ethan Ferns If that were true then car engines would not need air intakes. Lighting Gasoline in a pure oxygen state would be extremely explosive.
