Hi Nate, I'd just like to say that I really enjoyed TKOR until around 3 months into covid and I just sort of started feeling that the channel wasn't staying true to what Grant wanted and I feel that thats not in anyway yours or the teams fault. I think that youtube becoming more corporate was the downfall of the channel and that did upset me and I left a comment saying this on one of the videos but I'd just like to let you know that I don't blame you or the team for that. Hope your well!!!
Hey Nate, not really video suggestion ideas, but colab ideas, first which is a no-brainer working with Calli again (and hopefully Mark as well) other colab ideas are Evan and Katlyn, Bobby Duke Arts, Jazza, The slow mo guys (use to see that 1 get suggested a lot in tkor vids) 5 minute crafts (im joking on that 1 by the way had to have a laugh), if i think of more I'll add them in :) but for sure Calli/Mark and Evan and Katlyn with Bobby duke would be at the top of my list i'd love to see
Alec Steele is a really great blacksmithing youtuber based in the UK. I would check him out if you want more blacksmithing or bladesmithing content he is the man.
Not sure if you and calli know, but there is a fun game called timberborn yall may find enjoyable for gaming. Thanks for explaining what happened. I hope tkor does a video since yall were the face for so long.
This is the story of how TKOR went from enthusiast builds and genuine questions and experiments to a content farm and slowly heading to 5-minutes craft level and we are all here to witness it's transformation
I remember how I was addicted to Grant's content in 2013. Sucks how bland the channel is now. The start of the channel-2019 were the times where they made good content.
@@editingtimothy yeah that seems accurate. There are still a couple of videos from after then that are still okay, but it's sad how far the channel has fallen. The last video I liked was the picnic table one.
Yeah it's wild that with 12 mil subs they aren't pulling more than 100k per video. So it what's obvious they made a stupid choice by letting Nate and callie go. Oh well I unsubbed along time ago just a bit before grant left the channel, I was just curious to see what had happened to the channel pretty sad. It was close to backyard scientist and if I recall they once did a collaboration long ago
I'm gonna be honest nate. When you first were brought onto TKOR I was hesitant. I had already been watching grants videos over and over for years and wasn't ready for change. However after a week or so you showed the same passion as Grant and I loved that. Without you and Grant, TKOR has really taken a fall. Glad you're still doing what you're doing.
Same, I don't handle host changes on RUclips channels well so I was very very hesitant about the change. But I really grew to love the new team. They really kept the channel the way Grant wanted it to be.
The fact Grant chose you and Calli to run the channel, and management let you go. Absolutely crazy. Thanks for sharing some behind the scenes stuff. Wish you the best of luck my man.
This wasn't what Grant wanted, if he was alive today, the channel would be thriving still, now some random lady runs it, making a fraction of the views you and Calli made, you both continued the channel, and now as far as I'm concerned, tkor is a dead channel, a empty husk of its former glory.
Nate and Calli were odd to see at first, but the content they made was always up to standard to what Grant made. But ever since? Now its Grace running it, TKOR channel is no longer "Making Science a Lifestyle" it's honestly anything but now. I was around 11? Maybe 9? When I started watching TKOR, and ever since I've wanted to be a scientist of some kind. Now I am 16.
I hated Grace. One of the last things that I did before I stopped watching TKOR is to comment bring back Calli and remove Grace. She doesn't give the right vibes for me and I think I'm right considering the current state of the channel.
It hurts, I used to watch The King of Random when it was just Grant for years. It is so painful seeing the channel rot and become hollow. Watching the channel go from science and interesting projects to its current dross. I hope you will be able to take the torch and make content equal to its former glory. So much of the soul from RUclips has faded...
That's a bit harsh, it's definitely not in it's former glory but the purpose of the channel was never to make the channel runner appeal to the viewers, but the actual projects and experiments in the videos.
I stopped watching ages ago because it stopped being "weird science and how far can I push this experiment" to "hey look at all this candy!" And clickbaity titles and thumbnails that seem to be chasing the algorithm. I hadn't seen anything from the channel since everything kicked off and i literally do not even recognize the style of content now.
I really appreciate you taking the time to explain so much of the backstory. I think I knew it in fragmentary form, but found it interesting to hear you tell it as a whole joined-up story. Wishing you the best for your future endeavours!
It’s a dead channel at this point. Almost 13 million subscribers and videos barely break 60k views. It’s so sad. TKOR used to be one of my favorite science channels on RUclips along with HouseHoldHacker
The issue is that social media and RUclips specifically has changed from very heavily science based to more diy and short form videos that give you enjoyment instantly and you can just switch from one to another sadly nowadays there are very few of us that would sit through videos like the old TKOR that are arguably the best on the platform
Of course they wouldn't ask. I've found that management teams rarely give a flying fuck about the audience and the little people. They're looking for big catches; people who are easily entertained with "cheap tricks." A good looking/pretty host + [supposedly] simplistic ideas = easy views from younger generations. I'm not bashing on anyone in anyway shape or form. I personally liked when they added Grace and the others but I should have known better. It's similar to a TV series. When an actor/actress is retiring soon or being fired, they bring in replacements. The management team didn't take the audiences opinion into consideration because they know/hope that they can gain a bigger audience using less expensive eye candy. It might take awhile but I feel like TKOR's audience will increase again but it'll most definitely be a different type of audience who enjoy their content. I'm more curious to see how many more people will be chewed up and spit out because of the people who are running things beyond the scenes. 💀😭
if you think about it, all managments care about is a giant scheme they just wanna squeeze as much money out of something and till it dies, infinite growth is a lie
It's too bad, you really contributed some great projects. The recent foam machine video was top tier. I think if tkor gets someone on that has a better feel for making eye catching thumbnails they could shoot right back to the top. In the meantime add me to the list of those who would be happy to collaborate.
This is a collaboration I'd like to see. Since Grant's passing, Nate has been the face of TKOR and Calli was also a good addition. The new faces are okay and I respect them, but they're not Nate or Calli. I hope to see you and Nate and maybe Calli collaborating in 2022. Happy New Year, Bud!
It isn’t the king of random anymore. It’s just garbage. It used to but the past few years it’s gone downhill. I think they’re destroying that channel by posting so many horrible videos to it now
@@JDMOON55555 yeah. It used to be more of a kid’s science channel than it is now. Used to be more fun explosions and fire and super cold junk. Every kid loves that. And just a small little mistake ruined everything. One little oops killed him. And hundreds of oops killed this channel
He hand picked those two to be the faces of the channel. Their dismissal is the final nail in the coffin of straying away from the views of Grant… with them both on the team, they were in fact starting to go back to doing old school TKOR content then they were both let go. The last thread of Grant’s soul gone.
Honestly, I don't care why you're not on TKOR anymore. I'm just glad I found you again. That's all I came here to say. I look forward to more of your content.
When Grant died it was tough for me to watch the channel for a while. He was my favorite guy on RUclips and for days in a row after I found him, I binged his videos until I’d watched every one that was on the channel. I built his steel bucket furnace and melted down a bunch of aluminum cans in the bottom half of a propane torch tank. I had the time of my life trying out his builds. I was excited every time a new video of his came out. I was a bit put out to know he was phasing himself out from in front of the camera, but I ended up really enjoying watching your stuff too. When he passed away though, I had so much trouble getting into the channel. Not because the content quality went down. More so because I just had trouble with watching knowing the king himself was gone. Other kids had hero’s from their favorite shows, musicians, athletes, but Grant was that larger than life person who didn’t have a clue I existed and yet I felt like I could connect with him really well. Anyway. I’m sorry to hear that you were let go. You did a fantastic job, and even though I had trouble with it personally, I’m glad you kept the channel alive in his memory. I think he would have preferred they kept you. There wouldn’t be a TKOR without either him or you. Best of luck to you.
This entirely ^ I still remember EARLY days of TKoR when Grant was finding his footing, and I watched Nate and Callie a lot as well, but Grants death did put me off from the channel for a few months because of that whole "my hero died" mentality. It's gonna feel a lot of the same way now I think
Somehow I missed that Grant passed. Wow. I kinda watched a lot less because the new style was not what I enjoy. Not why I was here to begin with. Maybe how I missed it. I still watched but just not every video. Wow. What happened to him?
I slowly stopped watching after grant died to but it was when I really stopped watching is when they melted down the 10 mil play button just knowing that it was something bigger than what they turned it into.
I mean, it seems more of like he was great to work WITH, since most of his co host and behind the scenes works only have high praises for him, it’s more of that he was passionate about what the original vision of the channel was, and disagreed with the higher ups often more than the people he actually worked with
I realized that I was watching tkor for almost entirely Nate and Callie. The topics were interesting but the hosts were the entertainment. Good luck Nate.
Absolutely, I stopped watching mythbusters after Jamie, Adam, Grant, Carrie, and Tori left and was replaced with a bunch of albeit smart as hell kids, they had no charisma and I haven’t watched since. I more than likely won’t be watching any tkor videos in the future. I wish them all the best and hope they do well but thats how shows die.
@@gregkrueger331 Sane here. The new Mythbusters had no charisma and the same is true of the kids at TKOR. When they first started popping in I was like oh no! Then I noticed them more and more and finally I couldn't watch anymore. This was one of my fave channels for a very long time. Don't fix what isn't broken!
@@Elliotshmelliot she did at first in my opinion but lost it, I've not watched a TKOR video in ages (I'm still subscribed though just out of respect for Grant, Nate and Cali)
@@thunderchild1083 one of the most recent videos on TKOR pretty much explains why. She got super depressed because she wasn’t being received well, all she wanted to do was share her love of science and people ripped her apart.
I remember when Grant first introduced you to the channel, I was like who tf is this guy, but you really grew on me and I'm happy I found this channel. You're amazing, keep your head up.
I am so thankful youtube recommended this because I had no idea any of this was happening. I remember finding TKOR about a year and a half ago and loving it. I binged the videos for months because I loved the concepts and being an Engineer. When I found out what happened to Grant, I was shocked, but I was grateful to still enjoy the videos. You and Cali were perfect for me to watch because it reminded me of me and some of my friends and how we bounce off each other. Hearing you and Cali were let go, breaks my heart. Even though I am not a big fan of TKOR now, I can understand what happens when youtube algorithms change. Wishing you and Cali the best in whatever life grants you.
this comment just read my entire mind, the second i got the notification for this video being recommended to me, i clicked so fast and im just kind of in shock in hearing all of this!!
Honestly, this was thrown into my RUclips recommended today. I never knew Nate even left TKOR, but I knew that Calli and Nate were just gone and Grace and (I think his name is Hunter, I don't remember ;w;) were taking over, I completely lost interest in TKOR. This comment sums up my mentality of this video perfectly. I wish Nate and Calli the best (saw her Twitch and IMMEDIATELY followed it lol cuz I love Calli) and I hope they both go on to do great things.
@@kyara_rose I honestly hated when they brought new people in. I knew at that point when I saw the new people more often that this channel was dying. Now that Nate and Calli are gone. I'm sure the life that TKOR once had is gone with them. RIP.
@@Qtipz123 Sadly, I agree. I'll go back and watch my favorite videos with Nate and Callie, but that's the only views they get from me anymore. I still wish Nate and Callie the best and I hope TKOR can someday return to how it used to be
@@kyara_rose personally, i think it’ll be very hard for TKOR to go back to its original roots without Grant, or even Nate and Callie. Unless someone who’s got a brain like them can somehow take over and execute this idea, it’ll be very very difficult
My kids always watched Nate and Callie. We stopped watching when Callie got let go. Loyalty means more than $$ in my book. You both put in the work, you deserved more. Period.
I think you and Calli should make a channel together or something like that. Both of your energy together were great. You bounced of each other so well and it was great to watch. Any way I hope whatever you do works out well and can’t wait to see what you and Calli both do.
I'm no expert, but yourself and Callie were the personality and character of the channel. I think ultimately you outgrew the channel, much of the content comes from the presenters and therefore there's a disconnect from the business side of things. It's sad that the future of the channel does not include you or Callie but agree with with you said about the content still being great - don't stop watching just to spite the creators and presenters. TKOR is probably a victim of the RUclips algorithm, which favours clickbait, and sensational thumbnails which don't reflect content (not mentioning any channels in particular but there are some specific content farms out there). Whatever you do, I'm sure many fans like myself will continue supporting you in your ventures. Will you and Callie reunite to do the challenges with Jazza? They were amongst some of my favourite things (you guys were my dream team).
Like you said, disconnect between the ppl running the show and the business side that thinks they’re running it. Is very common in a lot of workplaces. Sucks because I love Nate and Callie, but didn’t like how the content started to become low quality garbage last couple years. In hindsight they should have let the new ppl make the low quality stuff and let Nate and Callie build higher quality vids. But businesses need money so I get it.
I've watched the channel since before Nate even joined the team and when it transitioned to Nate and then Callie as well I was skeptical but the content just kept getting better. Again I was skeptical when Grace joined the team and while content she is in or leads is decent I still think the best videos had Nate and Callie in them and when they let Callie go I was disappointed and am now even more disappointed to see you go, I wish Grace and the remaining team the best of luck and I'll still check things out every now and then though I do think this is a major blow to the channel. Can't wait to see what Nate comes up with in the future though
I'm so sorry this has happened. To me, the identity of TKOR was Grant, Calli, and you. I was so saddened to hear of Grant's passing and I felt that you and Calli brought all the life you could to the channel in his wake. I will definitely be following you and her both from here on out.
Nate, I applaud you for not going on a rant about “how they did me wrong”, it shows your great character! I wish you success and look forward to seeing what path life leads you down. Best of luck!
@@Omerta2times very debatable. He doesn't want to be known as "that guy" and it's always for complicated than you'd think. Its really sad to see all the OG TKOR members get fired. Honestly I thought that Nate owned the channel and he was unable to be fired and stuff. I really find it really hard to hear because when I first started watching your channel I was watching mainly grants videos but you at that point probably had around 10-15 videos with you in it. You guys were the reason that I bought lots of the stuff I bought and the stuff i bought shaped me to who I am today. There was a point when youtube just stopped recommending your videos to me and I find that strange because I would always watch your videos the day they came out. But after I saw one of your videos I realized that there were some new people in your videos. I watched some but the new hosts were not the same as the OG. The reason I actually stopped watching the channel completely is because it got way too sciencey and lost some of its fun entertaining touch. I think the biggest reason of that is because of the new hosts. I still love your old videos and you were the first person to be hired as a host on the team and I feel like the call to fire the people who ran the channel for grant and knew him was a terrible call. This goes to Nate, Calli, and also Mark. Your videos and legacy will go down in not only TKOR history but youtube history.
Somewhat similar situation for me, YT recommended the video's all the time while Grant was hosting. At some point YT stopped, at which point it started again but only with Nate as the only host. Few video's in I later found out what happened but YT has since stopped recommending. Since I haven't seen one in awhile, I never knew Nate left. Just seems weird the owner, probably Grant's Wife gave power to some producer who did the opposite of Grant's idea of Random. Too bad, another channel ruined for pure greed.
After Grant passed, it was clear that the channel needs a new direction. On YT people look for honest content, creators using their own voice, to tell their own ideas and perspective. As I see it, it was just matter of time Nate and Calli starts their own project.
I'm a year late to this video, but I wanted to thank you for everything you and Cali did on TKOR. I like Grants videos, but I binged every video with you and Cali. You were a great team.
Honestly, I was one of those people that felt like the channel lost some of its magic after grants passing. I had been watching the king of random about 2 or 3 years before it happened, so I was incredibly sad, but I kept watching the channel long past that. Although it wasn’t the same without him, it was clear that the same videos I still loved watching were being made, just with a different host (you). It was only a year or 2 ago when I stopped watching the channel almost entirely, and I really can’t explain why. things just didn’t feel the same. It was always clear that some of the videos grant did were primarily for money, but it also felt like a lot of the build projects he did were out of personal passion as well. It just started to seem like the channel was more of a content farm instead of something for personal enjoyment instead recently. This video really makes me feel justified in those thoughts. It’s honestly just sad that the people who really built this channel with passion and personal involvement were just cut out because they weren’t making them money. For me personally, the channel will never be the same now that you’re gone. I would love to see you make videos on your own time as a passion project if you have your own inspiration to do that. Sadly, the type of content I enjoy the most are like those old school slow build projects that the channel use to post a lot about. I understand that it doesn’t really bring in a lot of money even if they do go viral just because of how long they take.
I couldn't agree more. "Management" has gotten greedy and has dive-bombed the TKOR channel into the ground. Without creative freedom, and true love from Calli and Nate for the projects being done, the channel is just a video sweat-shop. I am truly saddened to see how greed has ruined what used to be a great, inspiring, educational, and entertaining RUclips channel. R.I.P. TKOR RUclips channel and may the true King and Queen of random (Calli & Nate) continue to inspire many more young viewers in the way that they have already inspired so many, myself included.
Yes, that sums up my view on TKOR as well. Over the last year I've gone from always watching videos to being an occasional watcher depending on the content of the videos. Best wishes for your next chapters.
Exactly the same for me, I stopped watching after a while and tried to come back but something just fell off. Hope to see a lot of Nate's new stuff tho!
I agree with the channel becoming a content farm. I don't like that. The personal passion that Grant brought was a hard act to follow. Also his voice and just whole personality was mostly why I liked The King Of Random. If a channel grows so big that it has to support a management staff that isn't part of the scenes, then it loses all that. Good luck to you and I will check out some of your content. But honestly there are a million knife making channels out there and I think people are getting burnt out on so much.
While we all missed Grant, we knew that he was passing the torch off, but the way you stepped up after his untimely passing was, imo, pretty epic. Nate, you have grown as a creator and as a person, and I as menial as just being one subscriber is as a whole, I will be watching you grow into your next chapter! Have a great new year!!!
Just fired and actively promoting them, this really shows that you are in love with the channel and not the business that it has been converted into. Best of luck in your future endeavors man.
I started watching when you and Calli were the hosts. I never really saw Grant's videos much. Seeing Calli go made me cry. Seeing you gone now too after catching up on TKOR has me in tears again.
I never knew Callie was let go, I assumed she voluntarily left. After Grant left this world, I still loved the channel because I joined in the era of you and Callie. I loved you guys. When Callie left, I was sad but I'd hoped she was doing something she loved. Now with you gone too, it won't be the same. I like Grace, so I'll probably still watch them. But I'm sad. You, Grant, and Callie were the heart and soul of TKOR. I only just discovered your channel by mistake, but I subscribed 😁
It was basically public knowledge that she was let go because of her sexuality since Janae is a strict Mormon. Sad how religion is more important to her than basic human respect.
@@gikiryu Which is wrong, because IIRC Grant was an ally to LGBT people. This is just wrong on so many levels how people can still justify religion as a point of bigotry…
I would love to see you and Adam Savage make some stuff. You both have this "I'm just gonna sit in my shop and tinker on things" kind of vibe. Plus, he is a wealth of knowledge.
it would be amazing to see. however a lot of Adam's time has been taken up recently with his own projects, sponsor channels, and more. perhaps a sciencey colab would be nice tho, it would be amazing to see that side of him interacting with fans. I love Savage for that very reason, he is in it for the passion, not about making a huge name for himself everywhere he goes. His latest hidden ventures at a cosplay event helped prove that to me even more. I can imagine the conversations between those two would be very... wild and interesting haha!
after Grant's passing you really did take up the mantle and embody the spirit of the channel. after Calli was let go it was a huge hit for me as I grew to love you both equally, even when the content wasn't quite what I enjoyed I loved the banter and silliness you guys provided. Now that you're gone from there I'm not sure I will go back to watching TKOR, but You've gained both a subscriber and a patron!
Wait what? I havent watched in a long time (their content didnt...well sit well with me for what i liked about grants stuff...but meh) didnt know she was gone
I'm incredibly late to the party but... I actually built a lot of Grant's original builds, and I remember his transition and remember watching his burnout in almost real time. I also remember you transitioning into the host and I knew exactly what was going on, and working with Calli. And I thought it was a very fitting transition because both of you had the awkwardness on camera that Grant had when he just filmed his hands doing things lol. I only lost track of the channel during the pandemic (that we're still in) because I became a health worker finally (tiring enough) and then. Pandemic lol. I lost track of you and Calli and the channel and it felt like I blinked and the entire channel was COMPLETELY reformed. I just found out about your channel randomly the other day, I can't remember what from (it was probably a knife making related thing) but I'm so glad to see you still doing things, I'm definitely gonna check out Calli's twitch and see what she's up to, y'all are both great people and I look forward to your future content.
Edit: As someone that has a family (unfortunately my own) had a Bipolar Mother and a lot of mental health issues. It is hard to deal with that if you don't understand (I am not defending the other person) my Mother used to just not talk with me for weeks and get me to school or work and blast music when she was angry and then send me so many gifts when she was happy and still just not talk. I am not at all defending this person, they are in the wrong, but I have also dealt with this bipolarity with my own Mother. The codependency is clear, they do bring it up in the first video? I think I saw BPD but they're clearly not handling it well.

I’m sorry that “management” decided to let you to go from tkor. Seems it became more about money and views than content quality. I support you and what you do. I shan’t unsubscribe from tkor, but I have not been into or watching their videos for a few years now.
From a business standpoint money and views is really all that matters, if a big company expensive video although incredibly done makes the same revenue and gets the same views as a lower effort video there is no logical reason to proceed to “waste” time and effort towards those bigger videos
@@exitsignman5348 those big videos got millions of views, the newer videos are barely pushing 50k lmao. people don't want bland bullshit, they want content with passion
@@SpawnIsSleepy exactly. I honestly hadn’t watch a TKOR video in 4 years and I just saw the absolute crap they’re making now and I literally started laughing. It has gone from great cool projects to what catchy title we can put on a video now and make the cheapest way possible.
I discovered TKOR just a few months before Grants passing. TKOR to me, has always been you and Calli. I watched for you two. I will continue to watch anything that you two do, especially if you guys did something together again.
So sorry to hear you're no longer with TKOR, Nate. I've been enjoying watching your content for years. I had met Grant a couple of times at local meetups but haven't had the chance to meet you yet. If you ever want to collab just hit me up. You're a standup guy and I'm wishing the best for you and TKOR as well.
Wasnt Grant doing some scammy sounding conferences, selling tickets for very high prices for what was essentially just selling his own business plans back to people.
@@ac.creations He did partner up with Kris Krohn to put on a conference and my wife and I attended. We could have done without all of the Kris Krohn part of things (he's just not our cup of tea) but Grant's part was incredibly useful. He shared all of the specifics of how he built his business and how it runs. I have patterned a lot of my business goals off of how he set his business up and it's really smart. It's what allowed his channel to do as well as it did for years after he stepped largely away from it and even after his passing. Not a lot of channels are able survive without their founder like his did.
You, calli, and grant were my childhood and now all of the king of random that I grew up with is gone and now im sad, thank you for everything that all of you have done on tkor
Nate after Grant passed away you were the reason I kept watching TKOR. I hope you stay on RUclips and show what you are best at. I want to see you get your own unique channel running.. Your presentation styke is perfect. To be honest I always saw you as the heir to Grant's Legacy. Please keep making videos to keep his spirit alive.
After Grant first introduced you way back in the day, I was uneasy. But quickly learned that you were the only person capable taking up the monumental task Grant left behind. Along with Callie, you and her became the soul of the channel, unique and amazing on par with Grant's work as the host. Still to this day, I believe that, I just really wish Grant was still here in all this.
The "down slope" point for me was when the experiments got too big a part of the channel. I watched *for* the builds, and some experiments are OK- but there should be a connection from them to builds. Like the time grant mixed aluminium and brass in his foundry, i wasn't a project but it was very related. Experiments go good with younger fortniters maybe, but i got sick of "lets dip this into this and see what happens" really quickly and i dropped my 3-4 years subscription at that time. NATE I wish you nothing but the best, and will follow for more knife making videos and shits & giggles
Same here. TKOR used to have whacky experiments and projects, a good balance between them. They explained the science behind why things worked how they did, and what that meant for wider use in the world. It's moved so much more to fast bits of curiosity, with a lot less explanations as to what is behind it. Just "Lets see what happens," not "this is what happens, it's really cool, and we're going to replicate it to show you how it works and explain it better."
The target audience also shifted. The content used to be quite a bit more technical and now its just tons of super silly stuff (Which is fine, just not my cup of tea). Like using way too much detergent in a washing machine. They still put out some solid videos but alot of it seems targets at a much younger audience (This is by design because lets face it, younger audiences tend to have alot more spare time to watch silly videos like that.) I full understand why they made that call. Its a buisness that needs to make money, I get it. But It sucks regardless. I miss the older content that was more grounded in actual things instead of silly one of fast bits of gratification
Same, I watching at the HHO Generator when I was eleven, but when it was getting into covering things in silicone and vacuum chamber experiments I was getting uninterested, but I still watched until it was primarily Nate and Calli. Which isn't anything wrong with them, they're both really talented and experienced, it just happened that the algorithm now prefers multiple videos a week and these experiments are much easier to produce multiple a week. Once they starting adding even more people I actually unsubscribed and stopped watching entirely.
Yah, same. I totally understand that the experiments were what were getting the views. But, I bet that the build projects that were mixed in played a big part on what kept people coming back. On top of that, when they started taking audience suggestions of, "What else do you want us to with with X thing?" It just started getting really old fast. (Well some did, like how does X thing change when you put it in a freeze dryer? That got boring after the 2nd video and they kept going with it. But some stuff like microwaving various things never gets old because of the sparks and explosions.)
This is a thing I see a lot of times: commenters say they don't like a certain type if video, when RUclipsrs can see in their statistics that what the majority of the audience wants is, in fact, exactly that type of video. I don't blame you for saying you didn't like the experiments or unsubscribing, but I can also see why someone with a channel chooses to prioritize the statistics, especially if multiple people depend on them for a paycheck. I just think we should try to keep in mind that our watch experience is probably not that of the general RUclips user, so assuming that what you want is secretly what everyone else wants is probably not the best.
I'm glad this was recommended to me. I'd been wondering what was going on with TKOR for a while now. I really enjoyed watching Grant, Nate, and calli. But with the new hosts and rapid, more kid friendly videos, it started to feel like they are trying to appeal to everyone but their main audience. I gave it a shot but it just left me wishing there was something more to it. I don't hate the new people on TKOR by any means, but I feel like management just inadvertently fired their audience. I'm sorry, Nate, but I can't continue to watch TKOR. But I'm glad you're still going to continue to make videos. I'll be here for it:)
Same by me. I bear no hate, and I wish them the best in this new direction they're taking. But I feel their target audience is clearly different now, and people from the old-school side of the audience are getting left out. So I feel like I am left out. And Nate was honestly the last reason I had to keep watching.
Same here. I stopped watching when they had a bunch of videos that were clearly aimed for kids. I don't mean to say it's bad that they made it more for kids, just that it no longer appealed to me.
I would absolutely love to see you and Calli back together on screen! You two had such amazing chemistry working together, your energies complimented each other perfectly, and I want to see what you would come up with if you two had the ability to run it how YOU wanted. I feel that even if the content is nothing like TKOR's, it will be thoroughly entertaining no matter what. I'm interested in seeing where TKOR goes, but in this video you confirmed what I've felt for a while, that it's become extremely corporatized. Obviously, people have to get paid, but following trends without having variety can isolate your viewers that simply have no interest in said trends. I personally used to watch every single video as soon as I could, but now it feels like the same plot with just different characters.
Agreed 100%. Nate - I started watching the channel after Grant became less involved. As many others have echoed, you and Calli were the secret sauce that kept me coming back for more. But in 2020 it was simply difficult to keep up with all the videos you guys were making. And quite frankly, having a bunch of new people pushed into my face suddenly was really annoying. It's as if you make a date to see friends for drinks, and instead some strangers who know your friends show up - it doesn't really matter how charming or insightful they are, they're still strangers, and you want the friends that you made plans with. If you and Calli start a new venture, your fanbase will follow. All the two of you need to decide is whether you want to keep that partnership going. Either way, we'll be watching, and thanks for everything.
got to say Nate your a class act. explained your side of things, expressed your opinion but didn't bash anyone and continued to send support toward them even after being let go.
I highly doubt this comment will be seen, however i wish to say that when you were brought on by Grant to do TKOR I was pretty skeptical about the change and worried things would change for the worst. All these years later i can confidently say i couldn't have been more wrong. You were a fantastic addition to the team and I'm glad i got to enjoy videos coming out with you as the host, the same goes for Calli as well. When Grant passed away I felt destroyed since his videos helped me through a tough spot, but i knew the future of the channel was in amazing hands and I 100% support anything you might want to do. May the Jack of All Trades never die 😊.
I think old tool restorations would be something that could go along well with your knife making videos. Finding some old scrap and turning it into something new is always awesome. I love anything that involves reusing, recycling, making, the outdoors. I'm sure if there is fire involved, Callie will be onboard. As will I. Wish all the best for you!
it’s not that i’m unsubbing from TKOR to spite them, it’s that you were the only reason I still supported them. You were the last thing that we left that kept the spirit of old school TKOR alive and that’s why I loved it in the first place. Good luck nate. you tried to help them the best you could, they just didn’t take it✌️
The videos of Callie and yourself were the reason I started watching tkor and one of the main reasons I got addicted to RUclips. Sorry to see you go. I'm sure you will be successful in whatever you do in the future. Much love and happy new year!
Honestly I haven't been able to watch tkor since grant's passing, I am glad that I finally found somewhere I can watch you though without having the constant reminder of what is missing over there, even though things hadn't changed it still felt like something was missing since
Same here. I watched grant since I was in middle school. He was like the friend I never had. After Nate came on I watched a video every now and then but I never watched them within a day of release like I used to watch grants. I have not watched a video from them in over 3 years. I can’t bring myself to it. Something definitely changed. Grant used to improve on designed such as the foundry and his copper gears but the new videos just did crafts anyone could do. It’s not the same…
Nate: Your presentation here was so clear, concise, and calm that you have earned my subscription. FYI, I have found that I have been drawn to long-term projects, such as building things such as cabinets, or a house, boat, car, etc. Not saying that you should plunge into something at that level, just don't be afraid to have a multi-episode build, where you take more time on each step.
Few people realize how complicated the creative process can be, especially when you tie it to a business model that involves making profit. Good Broadway shows, experiment channels, and build channels make it look SO easy when in fact there is a whole unseen team that makes it look effortless. Good luck with your future endeavors, Nate.
I only ever watched TKOR for you and Callie. You guys had such a passion and interest in what you were doing, and both have amazing personalities. I have not been watching videos they didnt have you guys in them but I'll give some of the other ones a chance, hopefully this turns into a positive for you and you can soar.
Yeah, like, Grant literally could teach you how to make a small triple expansion steam engine by yourself, but now it's like, just making the most basic boring videos-
I haven't watched TKOR in a while, and I'm shocked to learn you and Calli left. Honestly, I loved Grant to death, and it always felt like he passed the torch to you two, especially you Nate, who was already around when he retired. But in reality, I think TKOR's days were numbered from the beggining. It was extremely cool watching Grant build rope machines, or making liquid nitrogen, or setting things on fire for the first time. But being a channel that produces 3, 4, 5 videos every week, how long can you keep all the videos interesting? How many years can you push out of this? There's only so much content you can produce that's actually interesting, and that's why the hosts matter so much, because at one point, THEY are the ones trully making it interesting Sad to hear how everything is going about and how you left the channel, but I wish both you and TKOR's team the best of luck
They could have just started posting once a week, or once a month! There's a market for that. Nilered, or The backyard scientist, for example. They rarely post but when they do they get 10's of millions of views
There are 2 problems that caused TKOR channel to go down hill in a way 1 - RUclips algorithm changes (This can do a lot of damage if people don't learn the changes) 2 - The average lifespan of a RUclipsr is 3-5 years and some channels might make it to 10 years.
TKOR was my childhood. tkor, householdhacker, and a variety of others. With Grant, Nate, and Calli gone, it doesn't feel the same because I liked them and I knew Grant chose them. I liked Mark as well as the camera man because there were personal moments like the boomerang video. If I don't keep watching that much on tkor, it was great while it lasted.
Watching Grant thompson "the king of random",Household hacker, crazy russian hacker, cody's lab, sonicdad, bakyard scientist in 2013 was my peak childhood
I have been a TKOR fan from way back, I remember disliking you at one point making campfire pizza. It took a little time to except the change, but I’m here now! Just a thought, a lot of us grew up watching Grant and his projects to what is going on now. We grew, but the shows projected audience did not. A show for the people that don’t care about you burning up cotton candy machines would be nice. A show with projects that are more age appropriate for those that out grew TKOR would be awesome. Possible a show where Nate and Calli do sketchy stuff with good intentions?
Same i grew up watching since WAY WAY back and i hate to admit it but at first i didn't like him either but grew to except the change and ended up liking nate and callie both and i agree with you about the age appropriate videos idea
Now that I think about it, a lot of RUclipsrs who explored other type of videos like MrBeast made secondary channels. I believe what should have happened before the transition to "experimental" vs "builds" was to make a separate channel just for the experiments / fun food related videos. What TKOR alt to do is make separate channels tailored to certain audiences because their seems to be a division among the audience in terms of who likes what...
I also hated him when he started. But he grew on me as well as callie. Then Grant passed away and i took a better liking to him. Now the channel is gonna die.
the same thing happened when ray william johnson stepped down from =3. his replacement robby motz he was awkward and robotic and at first people were like "ehhhh..." but over the year he had signed his contract the community came to absolutely love him, and his choice to not renew his contract for the show was kind of a blow for everyone, because the next host, she just didn't have the charisma. I would also point out Will Stettler from Alec Steele's channel, when Alec moved to the US people weren't Will's biggest fans, but after time finding out he was leaving the channel to do his own thing, sucked hard.
Please keep this sincerity! My biggest thing that made me fall off TKOR was that it became a content farm and it just slowly felt less personal and sincere. We just wanna watch you have fun and make things!
I just want to say, one of the reasons I loved Grant Is because he was different from everyone else. He seemed genuinely curious and excited about each project. I can’t wait to see more videos, and I hope to get the same knowledge and joy from you as I did from Grant.
Wow, Thanks for sharing your story!! Running a RUclips channel is incredibly difficult and I couldn't imagine being in your position with TKOR near the end. I think in the end you producing your own videos on your own channel is going to be a huge success. TKOR has been a great channel, has made incredible content (always big thanks for that shoutout back in the day. I always imagined it was your call on that!) I think the call to grow with bigger and better videos was the better call, it simply takes time to find the style of production that works for an audience, Its an investment.... Either way, I am excited for you and look forward to seeing what you make in the future! Congrats on the new channel and best of luck!!!
@@demireapers1013 He doesn't need to reply in the youtube comments to show support to his friends. I'm sure they speak in dms. Nate supports all his friends, don't assume negativity. People agreed by liking his comment. There is no need to add anything :)

The face of TKOR after Grants passing was you and did fantastically. Them letting you go was a bad move from them as personally I did not click as well with the newer hosts for some reason I can't put my finger on. I highly appreciate you explaining what happened over the years and cleared things up. You should collab with Callie as you could definitely tell you 2 bounced your energy off each other and worked really well. Good luck for the future. You have one new subscriber as I didn't know this channel existed.
You and Callie were the reason my kids watched your show! We met you in a Home Depot parking lot a couple years back and you were nice to them, making them fans for life.
Leave Calli out of it please. All my friends unsubed after a while of her. We are all circles. I don't care about anyones personal life. Her personality makes alot of people run away. many people love her. but you got 2 85% positive people and a 45% leave the low number out.
Honestly its not that Grace is bad but it went from a serious science channel for adults / science enthusiasts to more of a crafts /kids channel. Grace just kind of cemented that for a lot of people because she has a very "children's show " host kind of vibe. ( side note grace looks drastically different what the heck happened ? I just saw a recent video after skipping them since 2020)
FEELS like the end of an era. I loved how the channel never changed when Grant left the world. You and Callie held the channel. I new big things where coming when Grace and the new team arrived and then again when Callie left. I like Grace and I think she's a doll, I love her energy and charisma she protrudes. However, she's the only left on the channel now who I enjoy. I have found myself watching less and less of the videos over time the last few months (maybe even longer), from watching a few minutes in the beginning to not at all. I cant stand the react videos, I watch them on other channels, this is not what TKOR stood for. yeah its a random channel but it just shows laziness and quantity over quality. I think I can speak for everyone here and say "YOU Nate, will be missed by all and we are so excited to see where you pop up" Good luck to you on your future endeavors and remember where you came from!
same, nate and callie had the amazing loveable personality, sure the newer experiements and videos werent exacty my style but nate and callies energy made them fun as hell. but the new peeps just felt way too "typical influencer" if that makes sense. havent watched tkor much since nate and callie stop being on as much
Agreed, I truly miss the diy projects and actually learning something in the process. Nate was a big part of that and I wish him success in his endeavors.
You and Callie were why I watched those videos. Y'all were interesting and fun on screen. The others on screen there... Just aren't interesting or feel irritating to watch. All that said, I'm sorry to see this happen to you man. Hope you're able to get a healthy work life balance and thrive moving forward
since grant passed, nate and calli are the only reason i watched tkor, when they added more people and cali left i'm no longer watch tkor anymore. i'm looking forward to what you do to this channel and hope you collab with calli someday
It kinda hurts knowing I watch TKOR even before you joined, remember watching your relationship with the team grow. And now. Its all different. R.I.P Grant.
I fell in love with this channel when you and Callie were the hosts. You guys were my childhood and it truly makes me cry to see it end. But I'm happy your going to pursue your own projects.
Nate, you’re so diplomatic in how you discussed what happened. All I want to see is you and Calli work together. I so enjoy you two together. Whatever you want to do together, I support it. ❤️
Thanks, Nate. Good, honest and mature approach. This helps previous TKOR subs understand at least what happened. I hope you and Calli remain best of friends and both prosper. Change is inevitable and now you have the freedom to pursue what you would like to do. Best of luck and I'm a NFtI subscriber now.
I did not realize how much of an impact TKOR had on me till now and how happy I am to hear about your future projects. I think styropyro would be a great person to bring on for just about any kind of video. Massive respect for you being so positive in this video and good luck in the future!
Nate you were the face of TKOR for so long, after Grant's unfortunate passing you were the only reason I stuck around. I plan to keep watching your journey and hope you achieve all your goals.
For some reason, RUclips had stopped recommending TKOR videos to me, so I had honestly forgotten about the channel. I didn't realize that both you and Calli are now no longer with the channel. For a while, I watched the videos, and it was mostly because I enjoyed the dynamic between you and her. If RUclips doesn't recommend their videos to me any longer, I probably won't watch them any more. But I'm not averse to watching them. I wish you the best in the future. Thank you for sharing your story. I only have a tiny cooking channel here, but if we can ever help you in any way, just give us the word.
TKOR doesn't know what they are going to miss yet... But they will. I am sure you will do great things moving forward and we will all be here to support you.
I unsubscribed from TKOR after you left. You were the closest host to Grant and I feel like you embodied the king of random spirit. I look forward to watching your channel and hope you are doing well.
I love how you took time to explain this even though you owe us nothing. I loved watching TKOR but I did unsubscribe after Callie left because I didnt enjoy it as much anymore. You also said that nothing was changing but a situation hits different depending what role you play in that situation. So for the audience, some felt the shift/change but from your standpoint it business as usual. Anywho, youre a talented person and you will do great things in this new chapter. Thank you for letting us be a part of it.
personally, I'd love to see you and calli on screen working together again. you guys have great chemistry and the way you bounce off of each other while working is fun to watch!
Nate, for what it's worth. You were the personality and the old era of TKOR that our family has come to enjoy. It will not be the same with out you. I am interested to see your new endeavors in the future.
Without you and Calli there the channel just doesn’t feel like TKOR anymore over there, you both helped keep the spirit of Grants vision for the channel alive. Even when content started changing things still felt the same. To me and of course this is speculation but it almost seems like whoever is the management team wanted to get rid of whatever was left from Grants era and only wanted the name of the channel. I can’t wait to see what you have to post. I think if you do whatever makes you happy we will like. I do think maybe just doing small builds would be great.
I felt the exact same way when Grant stepped away and let Nate and Cali take charge. Took me a long while to get back into TKOR, but when I did I was happy with what Nate and Cali had done.
I agree. When Grace came on, things really started to change. I really liked it when it was Nate and Calli. It has changed in the last year or so, and I haven't liked it as well.
Typically when people say something is going "downhill" from a viewer/consumer perspective, they're talking about something in the quality of the product; not necessarily about the performance and well-being of the channel. In this case, at least in my opinion, it wasn't a single point at which the videos changed, but rather a gradual fitting into "the formula," where it seemed less random and more like a rotation between a few trends: liquid nitrogen, shredder, vacuum chamber, etc. It makes sense in the context that the channel started to drop in its reception. The response is to continue to produce the content that's getting the most views. As another commenter mentioned, I feel like you outgrew the direction of the channel. Thanks, Nate, for sharing this with us.
For me, I began loosing interest around the time the commercialization ramped up. Merch and project kits are nice but I felt they were plugged too frequently however you bring up some interesting points that I had yet to consider. I guess if you try and feed the algorithm everything it seems to want, the audience is only left with the things they liked before with nothing to recapture their attention.
That’s about how I feel. I enjoyed them, but they did those so many times that it felt less like experiments and more like “what can we throw in the cotton candy machine today?” It turned into a content farm. I understand the business logic, but as a viewer eventually I started skipping videos and then stopped watching altogether (to be entirely fair I pretty much just quit RUclips for a while). It sucks because what drew a lot of us to the channel in the first place just wasn’t as profitable, and what was making money got boring after so many iterations.
@@nickv.8618 yes, but I was following his channel since 2015, and I could see the difference in the content. He used to make great projects and how-to videos, while the new content was more of fun-oriented experiments rather than science based cool items. Remember the lego candy? or the laser blow gun? or the mini metal foundry? his life hacks? all that was great stuff.
A person that can admit they didn’t act the best and speak well of a company that let them go is really admirable. Wishing you the best brother and keep well
For me personally, a face is very important for the brand. From Grant to you and Callie it still felt like the channel, it brought a sense of nostalgia and happiness because it's what I grew up watching. TKOR channel just isn't the same channel as it was, and for me, that is why I don't have the same excitement when I see a new video. Thank you for everything you all did, we love you!
Personally, I find that TKOR started to have a kid's science show vibe to it, something you would show to young teens. Also, the kinds of experiments and the format was getting repetitive, and maybe a little boring. Nothing felt "refreshing" except the more involved videos. As for the # of videos, most channels seem to put out +- 1 video a week, and I think that is the perfect amount if you want to work with a small close-knit team on projects you are all passionate about. You can't go wrong when you enjoy the process.
I agree, Why force six videos of commonly known school science experiments that have been filmed a few thousand times? I much prefer videos where someone took their time and had to create something new.
@@PBMS123 For what it's worth, from an outsider's perspective, 1 to 2 videos per week is pretty much my ideal for channels I like. More than that and I burn out on them pretty quick. Less than that and I don't check what's going on particularly regularly.
When Grant started stepping away, it was hard for me to accept it. TKOR was one of the first RUclips channels I've ever watched when I was like 13. But you very quickly grew on me and were so fun to have as a host, and Callie was such an amazing fit too! Same with Grace. You guys had such a fun energy that made videos I didn't even care about fun to watch! You will be missed from TKOR, and I hope it will stay strong for Grant, but I'm glad you get to pursue your own projects now!
Personally I found Grace to be a bit too happy and enthusiastic. I favor a genuine response rather than the over the top stuff you might get on say a Disney TV show. Grant’s laid back cool demeanor was the best.
@@artofeverything1816 Yeah, I could see why someone wouldn't enjoy that, but I legit think that's just Grace's personality. She's totally the kind of person I could see just being a genuinely happy and bubbly person.
@@btmikey1925 Maybe ADHD. Everyday personality or show personality it’s not the kind of person I’m interested in watching. But there are plenty of people who do enjoy that. 🤷🏻♂️
For what its worth, I was subscribed to the channel for a while before his passing. I am on RUclips regularly and I have not seen any of TKOR videos pop up in my subscription feed in a while. In fact, I forgot about the channel until I saw this video pop up in my recommended videos. Either way, cant wait to see what you do Nate! Thanks for sharing
Literally the same, I forgot I was subscribed to them, went back to watch their stuff and was bothered by the trend I saw going. Great host and stuff, but the projects themselves were disinteresing or had already been done. Also, nearly 13-million subscribers, a 10 day old vid with less than 60k views yeeeeeeeeeeeesh
I miss the old tkor days when there was crafts and experiments stuff like that, and even later you were a big part of the process, I’m late at finding your channel but I’m glad you’re still on RUclips
So it's pretty difficult given he's still kinda stuck in the UK, but I'd love to see you and Alec Steele team up to make a knife or two once he's back in the States. Also, I've watched this video a couple times and I've come to the conclusion that this is an absolute masterclass in how to be a truly classy and graceful gent in the face of a poor situation. You're a boss Nate!
I don't think Will is too far away from Nate, might be a good collab there. Jason at Fireball Tools is also frequently down for a collab and does cool builds, again the travel time might not be unrealistic for Nate.
You should totally do more videos with Callie in a long-form TKOR format or more in depth videos with easily replicable experiments similar to early TKOR videos just longer (in your own style of course)
Check out Calli's twitch! www.twitch.tv/calbits
Let's make some knives
Not sure if you and calli know, but there is a fun game called timberborn yall may find enjoyable for gaming. Thanks for explaining what happened. I hope tkor does a video since yall were the face for so long.
This is the story of how TKOR went from enthusiast builds and genuine questions and experiments to a content farm and slowly heading to 5-minutes craft level and we are all here to witness it's transformation
It sucks how the channel went backwards :(
I remember how I was addicted to Grant's content in 2013.
It was close to backyard scientist and if I recall they once did a collaboration long ago
no its no way near as bad as that. their content is all fake.
Couldn't have said it any better man
Same, I don't handle host changes on RUclips channels well so I was very very hesitant about the change.
It is just like what is happened with Project veritas and james.okeefe. that was his company..
Don't worry. He's now the Prince of Random
I'm in shock-- I actually thought Nate and Callie were at the face of the company. We love you Nate, this is wild.

@James, zack Nehring no, these 2 were great
But yeah, Grant was the greatest
It hurts, I used to watch The King of Random when it was just Grant for years. It is so painful seeing the channel rot and become hollow. Watching the channel go from science and interesting projects to its current dross. I hope you will be able to take the torch and make content equal to its former glory. So much of the soul from RUclips has faded...
It went from fun science videos to
“Lets mix random crap together and see what happens”
Idea burnout
That's a bit harsh, it's definitely not in it's former glory but the purpose of the channel was never to make the channel runner appeal to the viewers, but the actual projects and experiments in the videos.
I stopped watching ages ago because it stopped being "weird science and how far can I push this experiment" to "hey look at all this candy!" And clickbaity titles and thumbnails that seem to be chasing the algorithm.
I hadn't seen anything from the channel since everything kicked off and i literally do not even recognize the style of content now.
for real bro, its so sad i used to watch back when grant was just doing it as a passion project to learn things. His death hurt so badly
I really appreciate you taking the time to explain so much of the backstory. I think I knew it in fragmentary form, but found it interesting to hear you tell it as a whole joined-up story. Wishing you the best for your future endeavours!
This is exactly what i was thinking
Ah mr shrimp! Nice to see you here

Yeah. Hearing more details helps us understand more. I am very curious to know what caused the downturn in views and subscribers.
The fact that this video has more views than the last 9 TKOR videos combined... Should say something.
It’s a dead channel at this point. Almost 13 million subscribers and videos barely break 60k views. It’s so sad. TKOR used to be one of my favorite science channels on RUclips along with HouseHoldHacker
The fact that nate has hosted many videos on tkor that individually have more views than his entire channel combined should also say something.
@Ari Parker my point is proven
The issue is that social media and RUclips specifically has changed from very heavily science based to more diy and short form videos that give you enjoyment instantly and you can just switch from one to another sadly nowadays there are very few of us that would sit through videos like the old TKOR that are arguably the best on the platform
holy fuck Aware
It’s amazing how the management team didn’t ever think to ask their own audience on what they wanted

@@13_cmi fr tho I feel bad for Grant since it's like his legacy but nah man I'm done supporting them as they slowly turn it into a kid science channel

He hand picked those two to be the faces of the channel. Their dismissal is the final nail in the coffin of straying away from the views of Grant… with them both on the team, they were in fact starting to go back to doing old school TKOR content then they were both let go. Honestly, I don't care why you're not on TKOR anymore. I'm just glad I found you again. That's all I came here to say. I look forward to more of your content.
hi
This entirely ^
I still remember EARLY days of TKoR when Grant was finding his footing, and I watched Nate and Callie a lot as well, but Grants death did put me off from the channel for a few months because of that whole "my hero died" mentality.
It's gonna feel a lot of the same way now I think
I only liked this cus I couldn’t imagine how long that took you to type that.

Agreed. Humble pie is hard to eat and humility is hard to find.
I mean, it seems more of like he was great to work WITH, since most of his co host and behind the scenes works only have high praises for him, it’s more of that he was passionate about what the original vision of the channel was, and disagreed with the higher ups often more than the people he actually worked with

You and Cali were perfect for me to watch because it reminded me of me and some of my friends and how we bounce off each other. Hearing you and Cali were let go, breaks my heart. 1000% agreed
They were amongst some of my favourite things (you guys were my dream team).
fr
Dream team indeed, I’d love to see a Jazza knife making challenge
Well said.
I'm so sorry this has happened. To me, the identity of TKOR was Grant, Calli, and you. I was so saddened to hear of Grant's passing and I felt that you and Calli brought all the life you could to the channel in his wake. I will definitely be following you and her both from here on out.

As I see it, it was just matter of time Nate and Calli starts their own project.

hi
I feel exactly the same way
While we all missed Grant, we knew that he was passing the torch off, but the way you stepped up after his untimely passing was, imo, pretty epic.
I saw one of your shorts like 30 minutes ago and i got a hit of nostalgia from you and your work. Thank you for being such a great creator
Cheers to this
Spot on to what I was going to say.
Same by me. I bear no hate, and I wish them the best in this new direction they're taking. But I feel their target audience is clearly different now, and people from the old-school side of the audience are getting left out. So I feel like I am left out. And Nate was honestly the last reason I had to keep watching.
Sameeee
I agree great chemistry rogether, like old mythbusters used to have!
I also would watch any content with those two
Agreed 100%.
This! I would also love to see some restoration, they're some of my fav videos to watch
it’s not that i’m unsubbing from TKOR to spite them, it’s that you were the only reason I still supported them. You were the last thing that we left that kept the spirit of old school TKOR alive and that’s why I loved it in the first place. Good luck nate. you tried to help them the best you could, they just didn’t take it✌️
This is my exact reason as well
The videos of Callie and yourself were the reason I started watching tkor and one of the main reasons I got addicted to RUclips.
Same!
It went from fun science videos to
“Lets mix random crap together and see what happens”
There's only so much content you can produce that's actually interesting, and that's why the hosts matter so much, because at one point, THEY are the ones trully making it interesting
Sad to hear how everything is going about and how you left the channel, but I wish both you and TKOR's team the best of luck
They didn't leave. They got let go
They could have just started posting once a week, or once a month! There's a market for that. Nilered, or The backyard scientist, for example. They rarely post but when they do they get 10's of millions of views
There are 2 problems that caused TKOR channel to go down hill in a way
1 - RUclips algorithm changes (This can do a lot of damage if people don't learn the changes)
2 - The average lifespan of a RUclipsr is 3-5 years and some channels might make it to 10 years.
Grant didn't retire, he died.
@@julianrivas1224 He had already retired before he died
TKOR was my childhood. tkor, householdhacker, and a variety of others. With Grant, Nate, and Calli gone, it doesn't feel the same because I liked them and I knew Grant chose them. I liked Mark as well as the camera man because there were personal moments like the boomerang video. If I don't keep watching that much on tkor, it was great while it lasted.
bro it's sad to see that grants dream of the channel has died. grant literally left the channel to nate. it's sad man
@@Demonutzz fr
Both channels had a significant person unfortunately pass away.
Householdhacker passed away unfortunately, i used to watch TKOR and householdhacker since 2014
Watching Grant thompson "the king of random",Household hacker, crazy russian hacker, cody's lab, sonicdad, bakyard scientist in 2013 was my peak childhood
Same tho I remember when grant made clay i also didn't like Nate at first but then he grew on me
Now that I think about it, a lot of RUclipsrs who explored other type of videos like MrBeast made secondary channels.
100% agree!!
I'm mildly surprised that in the month that this video has been up no one said anything to what you said. I don't doubt Nate appreciates the support.

Watching you and Cali made that channel fun to watch and I'm so happy to see you have your channel now so I can still watch your content!
You and Callie were the reason my kids watched your show! We met you in a Home Depot parking lot a couple years back and you were nice to them, making them fans for life.
Lucky kids 😉
Nate, Calli, and Mark should get together and create a new channel together because they made TKOR fun and it's honestly their energy that I miss
I would love that
Leave Calli out of it please. All my friends unsubed after a while of her. We are all circles. I don't care about anyones personal life. Her personality makes alot of people run away. many people love her. but you got 2 85% positive people and a 45% leave the low number out.
Oh yes please

The reason I watched TKOR is because there’s always so much humor coming from you and Calli. The way the contents are presented and being genuine.

I just saw a recent video after skipping them since 2020)
She became a lesbian. That change usually happens when a girl becomes a lesbian.
I think I can speak for everyone here and say "YOU Nate, will be missed by all and we are so excited to see where you pop up"
Good luck to you on your future endeavors and remember where you came from!
same, nate and callie had the amazing loveable personality, sure the newer experiements and videos werent exacty my style but nate and callies energy made them fun as hell. but the new peeps just felt way too "typical influencer" if that makes sense. havent watched tkor much since nate and callie stop being on as much
Agreed, I truly miss the diy projects and actually learning something in the process. Nate was a big part of that and I wish him success in his endeavors.
You and Callie were why I watched those videos. Y'all were interesting and fun on screen. The others on screen there... Just aren't interesting or feel irritating to watch.
All that said, I'm sorry to see this happen to you man. Hope you're able to get a healthy work life balance and thrive moving forward
since grant passed, nate and calli are the only reason i watched tkor, when they added more people and cali left i'm no longer watch tkor anymore. i'm looking forward to what you do to this channel and hope you collab with calli someday
yeah i agree 😔

Lol same here even though I'm subscribed
Not gonna lie but i thought they where a couple doing vids in there house hahaha 😅

I do think maybe just doing small builds would be great.
true
After Grant, um, left us, his content also left us. RIP
@@hmr313_ How so? In the video, Nate clearly states they used what Grant taught them to continue making content for the channel.
The first half of your comment describes exactly why I haven't been watching many of their videos lately.
I agree, Why force six videos of commonly known school science experiments that have been filmed a few thousand times? I much prefer videos where someone took their time and had to create something new.
Even 2 or 3 videos a week with the size of team would work.... it would be a lot of work, but 6, is just bad. 6 or 7 or 8 videos is too much.
@@PBMS123 For what it's worth, from an outsider's perspective, 1 to 2 videos per week is pretty much my ideal for channels I like. More than that and I burn out on them pretty quick. Less than that and I don't check what's going on particularly regularly.
Tbf tho I was watching it as a young teen back in the day. Jeez how time flies
When Grant started stepping away, it was hard for me to accept it. TKOR was one of the first RUclips channels I've ever watched when I was like 13. But you very quickly grew on me and were so fun to have as a host, and Callie was such an amazing fit too! Same with Grace. Literally the same, I forgot I was subscribed to them, went back to watch their stuff and was bothered by the trend I saw going.
Jason at Fireball Tools is also frequently down for a collab and does cool builds, again the travel time might not be unrealistic for Nate.
hook up with Will Stelzer
This seems very logical, understanding, and straightforward. Hat's off. Good luck. I wish you the best.
You should totally do more videos with Callie in a long-form TKOR format or more in depth videos with easily replicable experiments similar to early TKOR videos just longer (in your own style of course)
