Its cool you are still using the Mr. Volcano. I bought one a few years ago and I'm finally going to put it together. I was wondering what you think of it and if there is any flaws that are worth noting? I ask this because a blacksmith once told me that the regulators from online forges like the Mr. Volcano could be faulty.
They use the cheapest Chinese regulators, and they absolutely can be faulty. Thankfully, the three that I've used around the shop work perfectly, and are incredibly cheap to replace. For the price, the Mr volcano can't be beat. It's not the best quality, but it works great for the type of work I do. It can get to forge welding temps, but if you're looking to do larger billets of Damascus or large San Mai, it's not going to be a good fit.
@@ironridgeoutdoors Thanks for the tips. Also if I were to replace the regulators would it be able to get to higher temps? Or is it something else that is not a good fit for working with Damascus or large billets?

@@kraftenator9965 the psi of the regulator is not the limiting factor. It's the quality of the insulation.
@@ironridgeoutdoors ok thanks.
How did you get that perma blue so even? Mine always looks like yours did when you first applied it 😮
After each application, I scrub with 00 steel wool and rinse in water. It takes about 5-6 applications to get an even coat.
Well done! Very nice knife! If it would help, wool dobbers from amazon, to apply cold blue. I subscribed.
That probably would be a lot faster then Q-tips. Thanks for the advice!
Is that from the Frontier?
Pretty sure it is!
Great looking knife. 🤠
Thank you, much appreciated!
