Batman Forever really infuriates me. Bought it when I was a kid, thankfully for only $10. The instruction manual has the wrong button combinations in it! They are just completely wrong and I wasted so much time mashing a certain combination only to have it do the opposite of what I wanted. Infuriating.
Dude... you've obviously never seen earlier seasons of GUTS if you don't recognize the basic training course. They even combined all of the events into one giant obstacle course for a special back in the day.
Lion King could have been good. But it's overly hard for no reason. The ostrich in the second level is impossible to correctly judge how to do the double jump. The game only gets harder from there with pixel perfect jumps and overly hard enemies. Then the final level you have to fight scar 3 times, he takes a ton of damage and has a one hit kill attack. Then you have to do pixel perfect jumps over instant death pits, dodge fire, dodge lightning, fight 4 cheetahs, then at the end throw scar off a cliff. All with zero checkpoints.
I'm not one to knock games due to sheer difficulty, but Lion King is ridiculous for it. Makes it impossible to recommend to anyone that enjoys having fun.
Bro, one of only 3 games I owned ad a kid, madden 93 lion king, and some avengers game......I've never seen past that lion king level....and I only had 3 game...
I don't know what you're talking about, dude. The Lion King is easy as hell. I beat it when I was a kid on my OG Super Nintendo before save states even existed. In fact, it's so easy I taught my 4 year old how to play it and he's making his way through it right now in the living room and even HE says it's too easy.
I'd love to get some history behind what happened with the SNES Pit Fighter. It's clearly an unfinished game, maybe even Alpha. There's so much either mssing or altered from the controls to the power up system and missing enemies and weapons that this has to have been developed in a few months at most. Curiously, Race Drivin' seems to be by the exact same people (person?) as the title screen font and presentation is identical...Probably developed at the same time.
As an RPG fan during that era, I enjoyed Tecmo Secret of the Stars. It's bland, but it has some cool ideas, such as controlling two separate parties (coulda been done better though) and building your own town (which some other RPGs did as well). I also LOVED Paladin's Quest for its unique visuals (feels like an alien world), music (very moody!) and unique combat system (magic uses HP to use; recovering HP is done through other means). It also has an interesting, if flawed mercenary system, in which you can recruit usually optional party members in slots 3 and 4. Now of course, a list like this is very subjective (aside for unarguably, objectively bad games, nauseating games and the like), so I'm not saying your picks are wrong. Just giving my personal thoughts on those two games in particular, as someone who's played and enjoyed them a lot.
I also watched the 100 worst nes games list. You do great work and I love sitting back and watching these long series. I hope you continue to make worst games lists (:
Great video! Frogger on Super Nintendo is definitely a head scratcher. I'm sure someone brought it up, but the fact that it released that late into the console's lifespan and is so bare bones. So many questions, lol
Rise of the Robots was the very first SNES game I played when I was like 7 years old... Having only played NES before, the graphics blew me away. The game itself, however, did not blow me away in any way shape or form. Even as a 7 year old I found it bad.
Gonna defend Spider-Man and X-Men in Arcade's revenge here. The first level is the only bomb hunting level. After that each character gets their own gameplay style, and even Spider-Man doesn't hunt bombs again. Now, some of the levels aren't great, it might still make the list of 100 worst, but like 80-100 instead of 22.
One of the devs behind Lion King explained that lots of 16-bit games got the difficulty ramped up so that they couldn't be completed in a weekend rental. It was a policy of Nintendo and publishers who wanted to fight the rental market and maximise retail sales... but ended up ruining a lot of games in the process, which shows in this list. I disagree with Lethal Weapon and Mr Do! being here. I got Lethal Weapon in a sale when I was 11yrs old and enjoyed it. It's tough in places but I still go back to it now and then. Mr Do! is a great, faithful version of arcade classic. Probably sold terribly as a standalone SNES game in 1995 but I like it. I enjoyed this video and appreciate the time and energy that went into this. The SNES is my favourite retro console but there's plenty of stinkers in its library too.
@@Nokia3310do Thank you for the kind words! Appreciate people acknowledging all the work that went into this, even if you don't agree with all the placements
So fun fact about Jim Power, the reason the scrolling is like that is part of an optical illusion to give the game 3D depth. The original release came with special 3D glasses that allowed the effects to work without altering the screen and colors. The reason it’s so sickening is because the glasses are meant to lessen the intensity of the scrolling and make it pop out. That doesn’t change the fact that the game is impossibly ridiculously hard, easily one of the toughest games on the system, to the point of being near unplayable
I actually really like Jim Power. If you can get past the weird scrolling, it’s a decent game. It’s supposed to be used with 3D glasses. I like it just for the challenge. It has excellent music and graphics. Much more could’ve been said about this one. But I get it, you’ve got 100 games to go through
One interesting tidbit with the Blues Brothers game, this is actually a sequel! The first game came out for DOS, Amiga, NES, Game Boy and more. They then later released Blues Brothers: Jukebox Adventure which had this name on the GB and DOS but weirdly was only called Blues Brothers on the SNES. That's why the game is... weird. Another fun fact is, if you want to play all levels you must play in co-op. The final level is locked for co-op only. It's just like Bubble Bobble... except not as exciting
Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt continues Ocean's time honored tradition of combining a banger soundtrack with the worst gameplay. Drakkhen's sequel, Dragon View, is a top 10-ish action RPG for the system, top of the mid tier.

A common theme seems to be licensed games. I suppose if a company starts off with a game based on a movie, cartoon, TV show, comic book, etc., they figure they don't need to put much effort or time into development for it to sell.
I genuinely enjoy 'Super Alfred Chicken' (and the un-Super version that is on the NES), so, even though I know how subjective video game tastes are (as I've done the self-assigned task of thinking too much about my own faves/dislikes as well) I was surprised to see Alfred ranked 'worse' than a janky game like Beethoven… but we all like/dislike what we like/dislike, so cheers for the enjoyable video (I hurt my back so it went well with me laying on the floor) 🍻 FWIW: Super Alfred Chicken and 'Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City' (and maybe the first Terminator game) would be in my subjective 100 FAVE SNES GAMES list… but I don't think I had any sentimental feelings for any of the rest in your list!
Can't believe how high you put Ren & Stimpy Timewarp on this list. Me and my friends had loads of fun playing through that game as a kid. Hardly a great game but always thought it played sufficiently enough and was pretty fun as a licensed game with the mini retro game parodies and show references. Dream TV will always be the worst game on the SNES for me.
I was so appalled at how much garbage that Ren and Stimpy game throws at you almost immediately. All four of them were painful, and Time Warp was easily the worst of them imo
@@jankedjesus Have to disagree with you on that one... I always considered it the best of the 4 as it has a 2 player co-op, best show references and those cool mode 7 stages which were really fun to play. Its by no means a polished or great game but saying it is the 2nd worst snes game is a very strong opinion considering its a game with a decent amount of upside.
Super r type is amazing. It gets faster when you get power ups. Did you play it for five minutes and decide what you thought about it? I love that game. Definitely a classic.
I played most of these for a minimum of a half hour. The significant slowdown plus lack of checkpoints tested my patience. Glad you can enjoy it though.
@@jankedjesusmaybe it’s nostalgia glasses idk. That one just caught me off guard. Pretty much agree with the rest of the list tho. Thanks for putting it together like this. Very enjoyable video. I’ve sat through the whole thing. It’s inspiring me to get back into collecting
So, Spider-man and the X-Men... that's only the first stage. The rest is a standard side scroller with some actually difficult puzzles. It's not great but it doesn't deserve to be so low.
For Mega Man Soccer, you missed out on saying it should have been a "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!" instead of a slam dunk.
@@jankedjesusI actually owned that game. When I first got my SNES, back in the day when it was released, I got Super Mario World (which took up most of my time), and Ultraman. I didn’t know anything about it. I just liked the look of it. It was one of the early releases and we really didn’t have many choices back then. I did my best with it but I felt like I never really understood how to play it. It was fun tho
Maybe I'm not difficult to please when it comes to SNES. I'm a huge fan of Spider-Man and the X-Men in Arcade's Revenge and I like Batman Forever. The SNES has such a perfect presentation that I'm never bored and I'm willing to keep trying with the games until I get them right.
HARD Disagree on Alien 3. That game is a fantastic mishmash of Survival Horror & MetroidVania. It's meant to be played like a survival game. It's biggest issue was the lack of a save... Which is admittedly a MASSIVE issue. Thankfully the password system mitigates it for the most part. There is just waaaay to much game to lack a save function. It's honestly one of my fave SNES games.
Pit-Fighter on SNES is THE absolute worst. I can say that with certainty because I had the misfortune of playing it while visiting my cousins when I was a kid. They had the game in their SNES library. I popped it in the console and immediately regretted even touching the game. Nothing about the Pit-Fighter on the SNES holds up at all. Not the graphics. Not the controls. Not the same, stupid slap bass musical track that plays over and over again. To top it off, the SNES port of Pit-Fighter doesn't let players replenish health. They have to keep trying to fight using the same health bar for EACH ROUND. Pit-Fighter on the SNES is the very definition of "dumpster fire." Avoid at all costs!
Lion King on SNES is one of the best games on the system. At the very least its in the top 50. Yes, I had it as a kid and there were lots of game overs back then. Then I got good at it and I still play it occasionally in hard mode.
What surprised the heck out of me was that Mario is Missing was NOT on this list. This was an edutainment game I got for Christmas one year - and it didn't even tell on the box that it was an edutainment title. They made a NES version of this piece of dog crap - I got the SNES version.
I feel like Shaq Fu is overhated, yeah. People hate the *idea* of the game more than the game itself, if Shaquille O'neal was replaced with some generic shotoclone guy it'd be entirely forgotten.
I love the Super Nintendo, it's one of my favorite consoles of all time, but it also was around during the time when licensed garbage invaded video games, and there was loads of it on this console.
It was really unavoidable at this time, legit. I do really love playing the occasional licensed game, expecting it to be bad, and then actually finding a gem though.
The Sega Genesis had some surprisingly good licensed games and quite often. Yeah even the NES had this problem going into the 90’s. I got tired of stupid movie games and stupid Disney games that were not Ducktales.
My guilty pleasure was playing Bart's Nightmare. I also had Virtual Bart and Lion King (The Genesis versions of both), and enjoyed them okay despite them being kind of bad like you said.
42:15 Sounds like you haven't played Drakken II: Dragon View, and I think that's tragic if so. Definitely make some time for it, it's one of the best games on the console I also can't believe The Lion King is on here, it was a great game and the SNES version was more playable than the old DOS edition I grew up with
@@jankedjesus I highly recommend it! Just remember to save your game and reset sometime after the first boss or it will crash later on (obscure bug usually only noticed by emulator players using savestates lol)
Tintin in Tibet and Prisoners of the Sun should be in the list too. Mostly insufferable. No attack, bad adaptation as the comics are great of they own and unforgiveable difficulty.
The puzzle part of Lion King stage 2 wasn't the hard part for me as once you take a few minutes to figure it out it's not a problem. The ostrich ride is the real jerk of that level due to the timing required. Either way that level is not so bad and has a great music track behind it. Lion King is hard but a good game and doesn't belong on this list. Especially when Beauty and the Beast and Jungle Book are nowhere to be found. I also disagree on Alfred Chicken. I think his sprite is fun to look at. Lol.
5:57 I've only ever seen the first level of this game because I nor anyone else can be bothered to complete the first level, let alone capture footage of it
At around 45:00 I remembered Pit Fighter. I had it for a weekend rental and spent 2 days trying to get some fun out of it. That was back when Street Fighter 2 was only available at the arcade and I was playing every garbage fighting game trying to find something like it.
Almost every game is licensed. Back in the day, that’s basically how we knew to avoid games. THQ (To Hell with Quality) was always a red flag. Hook rules tho. Solid Sony Japan game, amazing music. It DOES have a run button!!!! Hold “attack”, like Mario! Kid Clown is a solid game that does what it sets out to do well. It’s just a funny arcade gag filled cartoon game. Ren & Stimpy Time Warp has horrible collision/perspective, but once you understand it, it’s playable. I finished it back when it came out. It’s way better than the other R&S games.
It is incredible just how much of the bad games on consoles of this era were licensed. THQ was especially awful, even more especially so on the og NES.
@@jankedjesusParents or people who didn’t know anything about games would buy licensed games cuz “hey! I like that thing!” Easy money from cheap & crappy developers. I used to work at a game store - I’d tell “casual gamer” customers to avoid anything that says THQ. 😛
A bunch of these are like 6-7/10, above average games. R-Type is just slow paced in general but has slowdown issues unless you get a fastrom hack for it, slower scrolling doesn't make it an easy or necessarily more boring shooter. Lion King's difficulty is extremely exaggerated here, it's a lot better than what was mentioned before it
tbh this was really a phenomenal list my friend. growing up in the era of the console wars, school was always divided up into either the genesis or the snes supporters, and i was always on the snes side. to me, there really wasn't even any comparison between the two as far as immersion, richness and complexity of visuals and colors, the sound capabilities, the storylines -- snes had it all. well anyway, this list was a great contrast to how i normally romanticize the console and definitely eye-opening as far as the slop that was strewn about snes' library of shining gems. oh btw -- i had to sub and can't wait for more!
Thank you! I must admit I prefer the Genesis, but the SNES has some really incredible stuff too. I just tend to lean toward the more arcade-centric side of things, and SEGA crushes it in that department. But absolutely can't deny the incredible library of RPGs, seminal platformers, mode 7 racers and even more on Nintendo's side.
As a huge Ranma½ fan, seeing two of its games here saddens me. I didn't realize that two came over to NA markets though. The franchise also had an RPG for the Super Famicom which I remember enjoying but sadly it didn't get ported over here. There's an English patch for it though.
@@jankedjesus I'm such a huge fan of this series that I named myself after my favorite character in the series. These two games were not great even if you knew about Ranma½ and probably worse if you didn't. NA in the 90's was never kind to Anime games. There's a Ranma remake coming and I'm excited and frightened at the same time if that makes sense.
Blues Brothers The Mask Super R-Type Super James Pond The Lion King Alien 3 Bubsy Bubsy II FIFA 96 Cutthroat Island MJ: Chaos In The Wind City Jim Power Like wtf dude, all these are pretty decent games, especially Lion King.
These games are all ass, your in the minority and talking to all the cool kids. So I would watch your ass if I was you, people around here are not to kind to dorks.
@brentmichael4770 *you're if I *were you *too If you employed English the opposite of how you think it works you'd be 100% accurate. You were too cool for any grade beyond second, evidently.
I'd never watched your channel before but this came up in my RUclips recommendations (probably since I've watched a lot of Rerez's bad game videos and also Matt McMuscles' Worst Fighting Game series) and I really enjoyed it, I like that you try to find the good in even the worst games. And while Pit-Fighter at #1 wasn't a surprise, I'd never heard of Mohawk and Headphone Jack before... and now I kind of wish I hadn't. 😝
29:22 OH NO YOU DI'NT! Out of the console Alien games, that one was by far the best and has, I'll die on this hill, the best Alien/Aliens game soundtrack.
Bart's Nightmare was my personal Jekyll & Hyde. It's nearly unplayable thanks to the weird controls and cryptic secrets that are vital in understanding how the game works. The Bartman stage was the only one I managed to beat on my own, and I'd say it's a little fun. Frogger was also pretty stinky. I've never seen a SNES game that was so lazily strung together. The fact it was the last SNES game published in the West (besides Star Fox 2) is pitiful, to say the least.
They were cranking out so many SNES titles at the time. I remember bringing the SNES home and firing it up with Link to the Past and it was pretty clear how impactful it was in terms of stepping up visually and soundwise from the Sega Genesis(at least initially as Sega eventually stepped up their game as well) so I think we were all just mesmorized at anything released on the SNES because of how new and fresh it all felt. There was a pretty long wait with some delays between the NES and SNES so when it finally arrived, we were all stoked to play pretty much anything on it. Unfortunately, it led to a lot of these titles. lol
Oh yeah, it was a massive leap for hardware at the time, which sometimes makes these harder to judge. Even the bad games tend to look pretty good visually. The good games are boosted even more by it.
Surprising amount of games I owned or played as a kid lol. Will say Ive never played Paladins quest but I thought the sequel Lennus 2 was awesome and probably the most visually striking Jrpg on the snes.
You talk about "the devs" a lot and why on earth they did this or that, but a lot of these games are bad because they would have been programmed by very few people in an unreasonably brief amount of time, to capitalize on some existing property and/or be available for the holidays. Back then you could make a video game-- the equivalent of a AAA release-- in a matter of months, and so people did, at the behest of whatever company wanted to cynically cash in on something at the expense of actual quality. We all want to laugh at how stupid and lazy the programmers are, those idiots, but the boring reality is that they likely just had no time or money to do it right, or if they had no talent then it was whoever hired them that was at fault. That's my boring comment about boring realities.
Notice how the SNES Pit Fighter has a Tengen copyright on the title screen along with THQ? Well, who successfully but deceptively replicated the 10NES chip to release unlicensed games? I always wondered if SNES Pit Fighter was a Nintendo passive/aggressive move to make Tengen look bad. In the end, Nintendo looked bad IMO. At the time though, I bet Nintendo didn't care. Remember before it was the Nintendo "Seal" it was the "Seal of Quality" ...all that quality part meant was you followed Nintendo rules and used their manufacturing. Since Nintendo made their own carts, they couldn't lose....the 3rd party did. Just a theory, but I feel the stars line up.
Yeah I imagine a bad port of Pit Fighter didn't hurt Nintendo's image or the status of the console much at the time. It is shockingly bad though, especially considering the other ports aren't nearly as abhorrent.
I don't know what it is with the freaking Lion King game. I LOVED that game! To this day it's gotta be in my top five favorite 2D platformers. I seriously don't understand. I didn't struggle how many claim.. ...it was hard? I dunno man, so was Earth Worm Jim! You just gotta get a couple buddies to come over on a Friday night, have your mom order a pizza, and forcibly power through it. Pull an all nighter. I would like to proudly announce my elite friends and I beat that game! We had fun! We struggled a bit during the log waterfall, but we figured the second level out super quick. I can't remember exactly how, but it wasn't a huge issue. Most of us starting doing drugs in our teens, and a few of us might be dead by now.... But we beat Lion King.
Part of it is that the gameplay has to be fun in order for the player to want to persevere. Earthworm Jim I beat the first night I ever played it. Could I have with Lion King? Probably, but why do so when it's not enjoyable?
@@jankedjesus It was made by the same people who did Ori, Will of the Wisp. If you're familiar with both games, you can totally tell just by the feel of it. I thought it was super well made.
Great video, but I have to comment on your N°2 choice. I played R&S: Time Warp a lot as a kid, and that game has plenty to it. I remember beating the first level on my third or fourth try, but you do need to learn it proper, like which are the fence planks that don't hit back and knowing the enemies' movement. Level 1 also has a catch: you need to get almost all the Gritty Kitty things (I think 70?) on the floor otherwise you get Game Over'd at the end of the level with the Dog Catcher boss. After that, the game becomes dual-genre as it alternates between Action-Adventure and a 3D Shooter. The 3D Shooter segments are very hard and have a lot of trial-and-error (and like Swat Kats, some sections can be pretty nauseous), but they are rather unique and kinda fun to try out. I strongly recommend giving this game another shot and at least make it past the first level in order to give it a more fair review. It's hard, but definitely not too hard, and you might be surprised by what the whole game has to offer. I won't disagree that the game has several bad design choices and it's way too hard on the later levels, but N°2 worst SNES ever game? Nah, I can think of dozens of worse games. But as I said, it was a great video. I'll be checking out your other ones!
Everyone has their own taste in what they like and that's a good thing. but I have to comment on these three games Kid Klown in Crazy Chase This game was unnecessarily brought down by bad reviews even back in the days. As far as I know, there is no SNES game that offers the same gameplay. It has very good graphics and, above all, great animations compared to all the other games. The gameplay is an auto-scroller, but it runs smoothly and the controls are on point. The fact that this game is now on your 100 worst games list is completely wrong. The SNES had 1,738 official games and 722 of them were released in the USA. Nobody can tell me that the other 622 did better! Super R-Type This game doesn't run technically smoothly, but at its core it's a good arcade game and as far as I know there are only three 16-bit home versions released in the west by 1991: Amiga, Atari ST & SNES. Compared to the other two systems, the SNES was much cheaper. I'm just saying that you don't have the nostalgia for this game, you didn't play it at release, but years later and because you have so many other options today. But when it was still current back then, this version blew us away. Hook Y for Attack (hold Y to run) ! the fact that this game only ended up here because you didn't even look at the controls properly is crazy. do you know the site gamefaqs? there is a section for every game called "Guides" where the controls for each game are shown
For Hook, I will admit that the controls were an oversight on my part, but it did not end up on the list for that alone, far from it. Kid Klown is a great looking game, but I genuinely believe it is a nightmare to play, not fun in the slightest, which is even more frustrating because the presentation is so good. And lastly, for Super R-Type, it is an extremely disappointing port marring an otherwise solid franchise with a good release history. Nostalgia doesn't change that fact.
I can't see putting Lion King on this list. Sure it's an extremely difficult game and I personally have a lot more experience with the Genesis version but overall this is an incredibly competent game with stunning music and visuals. I never quite beat it when I was a kid though I did get very close. Back then we were much more forgiving of difficult games than everyone is now. I think this is one of the best Disney games. I would not put secret of the Stars, paladin's quest or Adam's family values on this list. They are all rough around the edges but they are very playable. The two RPGs start out a little rough but they get very competent later with great story lines and some interesting gameplay elements. I would replace them with the games Whizz and Timeslip as neither are very fun to play.
@@jankedjesus Whizz is an enjoyable game that is broken by the harsh timer and that makes it such a bad game. If they ditched the timer then I would think it one of the better games in the library.
Eek the Cat is just a Reskin of the Amiga game(Also on Steam) Sleep Walker they just changed the player sprites thats it. That was in UK tied into a charity event so copys part of amount sold went to them. Somthing happened with colour pallete it is not ment to be that dark the Terrible Back to The future Part 3 on Megadrive world wide has same issue.
@@jankedjesus Interestingly enough, BTTF 3 was a programming error where the color fading programming was set wrong. It would fade the colors to only 50% of its brightness because the bitmask was set to 0111 instead of 1111. See the first 0? That essentially just halfs it. In Eek the Cat's case, the palette actually is saved like that. Not sure why, maybe a quick and dirty conversion? Stylistic choice? Their TV was set too bright, and it looked good™ on their TV only? Who knows...
Maybe comparison is the thief of joy, but I can't imagine going out of the way to select that one on a console with Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Illusion of Gaia, etc.
@@jankedjesus It seems like you didn't grow up with the system so you don't even know the progression of games. Paladins Quest was before a lot of those games you mentioned same with Secret of the Stars, they were decent games for the time they released. You can't just lump them into bad games without the proper context, that is a seriously closed minded view. Even FF2 (4 if you're going by modern knowledge of the series) has similar graphics and came out a year prior, 3 (6) was released later on so of course it's going to look better and have a better story with more complex game mechanics because knowledge of the hardware was better. We didn't even get FF5 until years down the road due to the success of FF7. By the time Secret of the Stars came out in the US it was two years old, Tecmo was slow to port games to the west around that time. There were far worse RPGs on the SNES than those two games.
@@Haltedboy Tecmo taking two whole years to release Secret of the Stars to me at least just further cements its placement on the list; by the time it came out here it had been outclassed mightily by many other options on the system. I'd also be very curious to know what RPGs are "far worse" that weren't discussed here. Ultimately these takes are my personal opinion, and the context here is what I can't personally recommend to someone looking to play these in the modern era. I don't think many are going to miss out by passing these over.
#58, Ranma 1/2 Hard Battle was a pretty pivotal game for me. Played the game blindly, led me to the anime, and the second game that was cancelled for release in the states, so I bought an import copy of it, and loved that game as well. The first game, yeah, pretty bad, barely a combo system in place, and an incoherent story, but after replaying it knowing more about the anime and lore in that story, it's a love letter to the fans, but wrapped in seaweed, and probably Akane had something to do with prep, so proceed at your own risk, for you have been warned.
I don't think Bart's nightmare, super r-type, lion king and alien 3 are even bad, let alone the worst, but a well presented video and you got a sub from me
@@kaaaanke Thanks for subbing! And to be fair, 100 games is a significant chunk of the library, like 15% of it, and the games you picked out were mostly disappointments more than anything. I'd say in those cases, the flaws bummed me out
i was looking for where frantic flea, time cop,pit fighter and batman forever was, thats what i think are the most so bad its good games on snes. but the music in frantic flea is a banger.
I'm sure its held in high regard. But I just couldn't get along with clocktower 3 on the SNES, I'm guessing that it plays better on PC with it being a point and click maybe I should give it another go
I have to admit, because of the lack of games I had during the SNES era I played through "out to lunch". I also played through all of "full throttle all american racing" .... The biggest positive surprise on the SNES were "Mystique Quest", "Secret of Evermore"(thought it was a Secret of Mana clon), "Harvest Moon"(didn't expect farming to be fun), "Theme Park"(didn't know these kind of games existed) and "Rock & Roll Racing", that one had more depth than I anticipated.
Shaq Fu is not as bad as everyone says. its the idea that is abhorrent. lion king is not bad, i beat in a rental as a kid. I concede that second level is frustrating. Primal Rage is not that great of a game, the unreleased sequel is far superior. Primal Rage SNES OST is going to KILL the Genesis's version, and i can confidently say this without even checking. T2 on SNES is total garbage, however the Genesis's Driving segments make the game actually playable, something that ive heard NOBODY ever mention on youtube.
@@jankedjesus I personally really enjoy the dream world stage select hub, and all the strange rules it has - it's so unique and weird, sells the idea that you are in a dream. The weakest points are some implementations in the minigames. Half of them they really needed to be refined more, or just cut entirely. If they took out the worst minigames from Bart's Nightmare, and injected the best minigames from Virtual Bart - I honestly think that's an A tier snes game.
You're still not ready for jim power
It was the games rental era, if they made the game too easy they wouldn't rent it again.
@aaronmarko Keep in mind difficulty is ultimately subjective, but from my experience, I have to say it was pretty unfairly hard.
Agreed, there's gotta be more to that story on Pit Fighter. No reason the port should be that bad.
@jankedjesus it's on a 4 Meg cart as well which wouldn't help. Mega drive / Genesis is 8 Meg.
I agree with you, those games you mentioned were so underrated.
Hard disagree on Alien 3.
I knew that one would be a bit divisive; I just vastly prefer the Genesis version.
@@jankedjesus hey it’s your list, and I really dig the video. But I always had fun with SNES alien 3.

Great video! Frogger on Super Nintendo is definitely a head scratcher. I'm sure someone brought it up, but the fact that it released that late into the console's lifespan and is so bare bones. So many questions, lol
I believe it was one of the last released for the system; head scratcher for sure!

Rise of the Robots was the very first SNES game I played when I was like 7 years old... Having only played NES before, the graphics blew me away. The game itself, however, did not blow me away in any way shape or form. Even as a 7 year old I found it bad.
They really poured all of their effort into the visuals; guess they decided the gameplay was unimportant
@@jankedjesus Thanks for the vid btw! Good entertainment. I subscribed. :)
Even back in the day we figured out the licensed game curse and actively avoided them
It really was a kiss of death for a lot of games at this time
One of the devs behind Lion King explained that lots of 16-bit games got the difficulty ramped up so that they couldn't be completed in a weekend rental.
Interesting fact about the glasses! You're right about the difficulty though, unfortunately its flawed all around.
I can make past the first few levels. I wanna say I got to a shmup stage
Played it in science class on the final day of 8th grade along with barts nightmare, there was a snes in there for some reason

I hope you can one day forgive me Burst
Drakkhen was done dirty when it was ported to the SNES.
@@kyleolson8977 Full agree, haha

Super R-Type is actually pretty good if you enable overclocking and play it without slowdown. Amazing soundtrack too!
I could imagine patching or overclocking it to run better would be a much nicer experience.
I wish someone would re-make "Paws of Fury" but add any animal character they could from other games
A '90s mascots fighting game would be dope!

Mario's time machine
One interesting tidbit with the Blues Brothers game, this is actually a sequel! The first game came out for DOS, Amiga, NES, Game Boy and more. They then later released Blues Brothers: Jukebox Adventure which had this name on the GB and DOS but weirdly was only called Blues Brothers on the SNES. That's why the game is... weird.
Another fun fact is, if you want to play all levels you must play in co-op. The final level is locked for co-op only. It's just like Bubble Bobble... except not as exciting
"Like Bubble Bobble... but not as exciting," they should've put that on the box 🤣
Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt continues Ocean's time honored tradition of combining a banger soundtrack with the worst gameplay. Drakkhen's sequel, Dragon View, is a top 10-ish action RPG for the system, top of the mid tier.
The Frogger game happens to be the final SNES game to release in North America. Also the only SNES game to release during my own lifetime.

Bog standard. Video games that are standardly found in bogs.
A common theme seems to be licensed games. I suppose if a company starts off with a game based on a movie, cartoon, TV show, comic book, etc., they figure they don't need to put much effort or time into development for it to sell.
@@Pooby1000 Yep, I think they knew they'd be easy sales, so the quality of the game was not considered nearly as important as it should have been
I genuinely enjoy 'Super Alfred Chicken' (and the un-Super version that is on the NES), so, even though I know how subjective video game tastes are (as I've done the self-assigned task of thinking too much about my own faves/dislikes as well) I was surprised to see Alfred ranked 'worse' than a janky game like Beethoven… but we all like/dislike what we like/dislike, so cheers for the enjoyable video (I hurt my back so it went well with me laying on the floor) 🍻 FWIW: Super Alfred Chicken and 'Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City' (and maybe the first Terminator game) would be in my subjective 100 FAVE SNES GAMES list… but I don't think I had any sentimental feelings for any of the rest in your list!
For Mega Man Soccer, you missed out on saying it should have been a "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!" instead of a slam dunk.
You should try Ultraman for SNES. We rented countless games when I was a kid and that one is easily my worst memory.
Funny you mention that one, cause I kinda dig Ultraman haha
@@jankedjesusI actually owned that game. When I first got my SNES, back in the day when it was released, I got Super Mario World (which took up most of my time), and Ultraman. I didn’t know anything about it. I just liked the look of it. It was one of the early releases and we really didn’t have many choices back then. I did my best with it but I felt like I never really understood how to play it. It was fun tho
I remember wanting to cry when I got it for my birthday. Good times.
Nothing wrong with being easy to please!
I’m shocked Wolverine Adamantium Rage wasn’t on here. Both versions suck but the SNES one is especially bad
IsNo one really going to mention A Link to The Past?
You think that belongs on a "worst of" list? You'd need a shield for all the pitchforks coming your way, haha!

Why? This list is not about top 5 SNES of all time
What surprised the heck out of me was that Mario is Missing was NOT on this list.
Hit the nail on the head, absolutely
I cried when I got it for Christmas.
Definitely make some time for it, it's one of the best games on the console
I also can't believe The Lion King is on here, it was a great game and the SNES version was more playable than the old DOS edition I grew up with
I've heard Dragon View is a massive improvement, definitely want to check it out!
@@jankedjesus I highly recommend it! Just remember to save your game and reset sometime after the first boss or it will crash later on (obscure bug usually only noticed by emulator players using savestates lol)
fun video but a few questionable choices. Hook has no business on this list let alone that low. You can run by holding Y.
Tintin in Tibet and Prisoners of the Sun should be in the list too. Mostly insufferable. No attack, bad adaptation as the comics are great of they own and unforgiveable difficulty.
For the record, I would have placed Rise of the Robots in unplayable trash.
Oh I know you would SPac!
My hardest disagree is Hook. Really fun game. A lot of people don't figure out you can run in the game.
Lol.
5:57 I've only ever seen the first level of this game because I nor anyone else can be bothered to complete the first level, let alone capture footage of it
I've made it a few levels in, but its a challenging one. Don't blame you for not being bothered haha!
At around 45:00 I remembered Pit Fighter. I had it for a weekend rental and spent 2 days trying to get some fun out of it. That was back when Street Fighter 2 was only available at the arcade and I was playing every garbage fighting game trying to find something like it.
The fighting landscape pre-Street Fighter 2 home ports on consoles was pretty rough ngl
Lion King's difficulty is extremely exaggerated here, it's a lot better than what was mentioned before it
16:59, for me, Tecmo's Secret of the Stars is fun bad, due to the incredible music.
American Gladiators should only be here if its the SNES one. The Genesis one is good.
How tf do you put Super R-Type on here but not D-Force?!?
I love Mr. Do and Frogger!
tbh this was really a phenomenal list my friend. growing up in the era of the console wars, school was always divided up into either the genesis or the snes supporters, and i was always on the snes side. to me, there really wasn't even any comparison between the two as far as immersion, richness and complexity of visuals and colors, the sound capabilities, the storylines -- snes had it all.
well anyway, this list was a great contrast to how i normally romanticize the console and definitely eye-opening as far as the slop that was strewn about snes' library of shining gems. oh btw -- i had to sub and can't wait for more!
I've heard the entries that didn't make it stateside are the much better showings in all fairness.

These games are all ass, your in the minority and talking to all the cool kids. So I would watch your ass if I was you, people around here are not to kind to dorks.
@@brentmichael4770 These games are all kick-ass and I'm talking to all the real boyz.

God i love Swat Kats to death. cleared it over 10 times
I’m actually amazed that Ultraman is not on this list.
Multiple people have mentioned that one; I don't think it's as bad as the reputation it seems to have
Spider-Man and X-men isn't that bad. Also it's soundtrack is probably in the top 10 of all Snes games.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed
29:22 OH NO YOU DI'NT! Out of the console Alien games, that one was by far the best and has, I'll die on this hill, the best Alien/Aliens game soundtrack.
I wanted so bad to like it; the presentation was stellar, but the gameplay drove me nuts!
Yeah the ball was dropped HARD with Frogger; lazy hack job
"...blasically a blind leap faith of jump" is my new catch phrase. I'm diggin' this vid here
I hope that wasn't a mean comment cuz again, i'm diggin this in the same way i really enjoy jason graves
@@SpicyMctyson Thanks! Jason makes some good stuff. Glad to be in good company!
The next time we'd see Two On One battles in a fighting game would be Street Fighter Alpha 3!
Good ol Alpha 3, good times
I just took a look at some footage for Lennus 2 and must say, wow, huge step up in the visual department!
@@jankedjesus Yeah it had been a while since I played it, but yeah I remember it being stunning.
Excellent video Kyle, my favourite one yet! Keep up the good work!
Thank you Toaster!
@@jankedjesus Anytime matey!
@@jankedjesus I thought it was great.
Everyone has their own taste in what they like and that's a good thing. but I have to comment on these three games
Kid Klown in Crazy Chase
This game was unnecessarily brought down by bad reviews even back in the days.
Super R-Type
This game doesn't run technically smoothly, but at its core it's a good arcade game and as far as I know there are only three 16-bit home versions released in the west by 1991: Amiga, Atari ST & SNES. Compared to the other two systems, the SNES was much cheaper. I'm just saying that you don't have the nostalgia for this game, you didn't play it at release, but years later and because you have so many other options today. But when it was still current back then, this version blew us away.
Hook
Y for Attack (hold Y to run) ! the fact that this game only ended up here because you didn't even look at the controls properly is crazy. do you know the site gamefaqs? there is a section for every game called "Guides" where the controls for each game are shown
For Hook, I will admit that the controls were an oversight on my part, but it did not end up on the list for that alone, far from it.
I actually enjoyed what I played of Whizz. Admittedly haven't tried Time Slip
@@jankedjesus Whizz is an enjoyable game that is broken by the harsh timer and that makes it such a bad game. If they ditched the timer then I would think it one of the better games in the library.
@@vintagegamecrazy The timer is kinda rough, fair critique
Ballz 3D wasn't included. Wow.
My mind immediately went to BTTF 3 on Genesis when Eek came up so dark. Must've been a programming error.
Love Paladin's Quest
Maybe comparison is the thief of joy, but I can't imagine going out of the way to select that one on a console with Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Illusion of Gaia, etc.
Same
@@jankedjesus It seems like you didn't grow up with the system so you don't even know the progression of games.
It's a shame they didn't port some of the better releases over. Glad it was able to get you into the franchise
@@jankedjesus You like that you should hear my story behind Final Fantasy II (IV).
Pugsly's scavenger hunt is a great game... and I beat it as a young child so I'm not sure your difficulty rating is accurate.
oh hey, i think I have the speedrun record for Jim Power - can't be sure tho
Hopefully you play the patched version that fixes that awful parallax!
I'd say in those cases, the flaws bummed me out
@@jankedjesus it was fair criticism too
i was looking for where frantic flea, time cop,pit fighter and batman forever was, thats what i think are the most so bad its good games on snes. but the music in frantic flea is a banger.
The music definitely kept me playing longer on Frantic Flea than I otherwise would have
I'm sure its held in high regard. But I just couldn't get along with clocktower 3 on the SNES, I'm guessing that it plays better on PC with it being a point and click maybe I should give it another go
Haven't played any of the SNES ports, but did play through the first release on PS1. They absolutely do benefit from a mouse
I really don't think Porky Pig's Haunted Holiday is that bad. I really don't mind Bugs Bunny's Rabbit Rampage either.
The movement and level design killed it for me. Like I said, a lot of the Warner games knocked it out of the park in terms of presentation.
I remember both of those. I thought they looked good and had fun game play.
Rock & Roll Racing is fantastic! Bangin' soundtrack, and an early Blizzard game.
Totally agree about T2 on Genesis, the controls are way different and make it a lot easier on that version.
I hope Sküljagger makes the list
Bart's Nightmare is such an underrated gem.
It has its moments of charm for sure.
Bubsy hate...I mean I kinda get it. I have a ton of nostalgia for this game.
I just wish they were more forgiving to play... the inclusion of fall damage is a head scratcher
Hook is an awesome game, and you can run by holding the attack button, just sayin'
The game concept of Super Troll Island at 25:54 I first saw in Miner 2049er on Commodore 64... and that's from 1983.
It stuck me as ripping off another game, seemed like too good of a concept to be fully original haha
