This was a great watch, Kyle! Thanks for sharing that victory screen from the DOS game. I fondly remember playing it when I was in high school during the late 2000's and NEVER finished it, so it was a personal treat to see that.
By far the coolest thing about the SNES - of which there are few things cool or good about the game - is in the police station, as the Terminator starts to come through the doorway you can see his red glowing eyes before he steps out into the light, and when he goes back into the dark room the last thing you see is his red glowing eyes.
Future Shock & Skynet were actually pretty good. I bought both back in the 90s & enjoyed them along with many of the other good “Doom clones” of the time.
Terminator on the Sega CD is easily one of the systems top ten games. I recall reading somewhere that the game was incompatible with a version of the Sega CDX. Thankfully it plays on mine and will hopefully increase it’s resale value.
I've covered a few of them before in other videos, the 16 bit ones are rough though; might be tough to force myself through those. The 8 bit version on NES is quite good though, that made the LJN on NES video
You might want to also check out Journey to Silius for the NES/Famicom it was originally Sunsoft's Terminator game but the company lost the license mid way through development and it was reworked into Journey to Silius. Used to own the game back in the day and it still feels like it could take place in the Terminator world.
Great video, you should have covered the patched version of Journey to Silius that turns it back to its original intended Terminator game. It really makes it amazing.
I've played most of the Terminator games and I think the DOS game is by far the best T1 based game. Its the only game that recreated the whole gathering weapons and supplies then seeking your target aspect of the movies. Though why anyone thought not including any Shotguns in a pre-Machine War Terminator game was a good idea is something I doubt I will ever understand.
It would be incredible to see a modern take on what the DOS game was doing. It's shocking what they were able to pull off despite the clear hardware limitations
It's also basically a spiritual predecessor to the Elder Scrolls series. Might be a reach, but you have a large map with fast travel options, the ability to steal from shops, and also fighting off law enforcement when you cause too much of a ruckus. Terminator also connects back to TES when the Daggerfall engine was used for Terminator: FutureShock
I actually had that original Terminator game for our 386 PC. Definitely fell for that box art as a kid, and was expecting an experience like T2 Arcade. I was thinking wtf is this... as a 10 or 11 year old. I believe I wanted Future Shock, but our PC couldn't run it, so I settled for this one as a clearance priced game in the discount bin at Babbages.
Definitely want to try Future Shock at some point... this is definitely NOT that game, haha. Could imagine being confused to no end as a kid trying to understand what was going on.
@jankedjesus apropos of nothing, have you also played scorched earth? Or Adom? I played them around the same time as terminator. They were fun as heck.
The Terminator on Genesis was one of the first games I ever played. I still regret never completing it due to not getting past the police station 😢 Damn do I love the Sega CD version tho due to how tight the gameplay is and the awesome music and box art. I hope you do the other Terminator games next since it has some solid titles on Xbox and PS4 and some crap ones (especially T2 on Genesis)
Yeah the 16-bit T2's are rough. Ironically the NES one is actually pretty good by comparison. And yeah, Genesis Terminator is pretty tough, just beat the game again on very hard the other night and forgot how demanding it is; one life, no continues.
Terminator for the Genesis is indeed awesome. Not sure I'd go so far as "my beloved" but it's a fun, quick playthrough. One thing I find odd about your videos is you never seem to comment on the games' music. What's up with that?
@@ByGeorge846 To me, the gameplay is the main focus during the videos. I love music, but I find that can be even more subjective than talking about how they play. Also copyright can often make it difficult to play any extended music samples.
I'm playing terminator redemption on gamecube right now for the first-time. Also terminator on ps4 is awesome and the robocop vs terminator games on snes and sega are good too
So the take away is that the Sega games were the best. But I never played any of them though. Can't remember why I skipped them, probably because I was into T2 more by then. But best Terminator game...Journey to Silius! lol, I kid.
The Genesis game is a great lil time killing game. Want a fast paced, decent tension game you can beat in 20 minutes? The Terminator is there for ya
Couldn't agree more!
This means you gotta do Robocop games next. Great video, once again.
Of course! I've played a few of the RoboCop games, some of 'em are pretty solid
And then end the series with the Robocop vs. Terminator games!
Always love your deep dives even though I've never played a Terminator game
Thank you for the kind words of support!

Robocop Vs Terminator was pretty cool, difficult, but have passwords to access diff. lvls
Very difficult for sure, but another favorite. Would love to cover the few versions of that at some point.
How am I only finding your channel now? Love your videos man. I too am an appreciater of retro goodness (huge ps1 fan) Keep them coming!

ill be back, to watch this again

I would love to see one on Terminator 2: Judgment Day games.

@@MrJohnlennon007 Not wrong about that one, thanks for watching!
Pretty sure it's illegal to talk about Sega CD Terminator without mentioning the amazing music. You're going to jail, sir.

Terminator on Sega Cd is a awesome video game and great video and the one on Sega genesis was descent
@@quentinparhiala9415 SEGA really came out ahead on these, totally agree.
The Sega CD version looks like it shares its engine and various graphics with Robocop vs Terminator for Genesis
Both by Virgin Games, so that is very possibly the case
Love the snes version of T2 the arcade game... I think that version practically sums up the terminator in a nutshell
T2 arcade is a banger for sure
I only had the Terminator 2 for the Amiga and Terminator 2 Arcade game for the Sega Genesis
T2 Arcade is actually a sick little rail shooter, much better than the movie game
Consider me your newest fan! I absolutely loved this video! 😊
tysm for the kind words! Glad you loved the video!

I was gunna trash the 1991 DOS game, using Corncob 3D as an example of 3D done right (at the time), but Corncob 3D came out the next year
Try out future shock and skynet for DOS. Decent Games too. Great Video btw. Enjoyed your thoughts.
Future Shock is high on my list of games to try sooner rather than later.
no journey to silius?
Those driving sections in the NES version are very similar to the driving sections on the C64 version of T2. They look just as insufferable, too
Yeah, if the C64 driving is anything like the NES, big yikes
Do more Terminator stuff
Can you do the versions of T2 too please?

My editor cuts frequently for pacing, I film long stretches without without interruptions, but he edits out the gaps. Sorry if that bothers you.
