i once got a train to a Chumbawamba gig in Bradford, UK, there was a nun sat opposite us, who got off at same stop and walked to the venue...., turns out it was Danbert Nobacon from the band - realised when he appeared on stage, still dressed as a nun lol
My first "adult job" after college was in New York City (NYC). I was living in a basement apartment in the Greenwich Village section of NYC. Two buildings away from my apartment was a local bar/pub. The bar/pub played this song at least 3 times a night between 1997-1998. I love the song, but I had to hear it all the time for almost 2 years in the middle of the night. It drove me crazy at the time, but it's hard not to start dancing when you hear the refrain.
WOW I had not heard that song in a long time. Thanks for the reaction. I recommend everyone look through your history of reaction videos and they just may learn of an artist they truly love. My two favorites are your reactions to Angelina Jordan and the rock band, The Warning.
This is actually a fairly deep song, talking about how life can knock you down, but memories of better times can keep you going, as in this chorus. "He drinks a Whiskey drink, he drinks a Vodka drink He drinks a Lager drink, he drinks a Cider drink He sings the songs that remind him of the good times He sings the songs that remind him of the better times" How better to remember than in a karaoke bar?
It's actually about a irish guy who he lived next to that worked for british rail and hated it, he would get drunk most nights and walk home singing danny boy.
This song was released on 1997 when i was about 13 yrs old everytime i heard this song during 90s anywhere i always stop and listen to it until it finish and i continued walking and start singing
Chumbawamba was an English rock band that formed in 1982 and disbanded in 2012. The band drew on genres such as punk rock, pop, and folk. The band are best known for their song "Tubthumping", which was nominated for Best British Single at the 1998 Brit Awards. Other singles include "Amnesia", "Enough Is Enough" (with MC Fusion), "Timebomb", "Top of the World (Olé, Olé, Olé)", and "Add Me". "Pissing the night away" would translate to "Drinking (alcoholic beverages) all night." To be pissed in England is to be drunk, to be pissed in the US is to be angry. In England, a tubthumper is a politician.
Chumbawumba have recorded so many LPs, and are an anarchist collective disguised as a band. Tubthumper just *owned* the airwaves for forever. People call them a one hit wonder, but they've a lot of depth in their catalogue.
I recognized this in 4 words!!!... "I get knocked down..." Like you said... of COURSE I've heard this song! I had no idea who did it. I looked... 1997. Great reaction, Schnell!!
The use of the song " Danny Boy" was apparently because a neighbour of theirs constantly sang it and nothing else! Hence the reference to the neighbour!
When it 1st came out, best PUB song ever! Watch your Rugby team lose, head to fav PUB, knock back a few pints, then burst out with "I get knocked down, but I get up again" .... go home happy :-)
This song always makes me a little sad, I was a huge Chumbawamba fan for years before this song, they were a legendary anarcho-punk outfit and live they were simply incredible, but this song was so different to what they did before, and just felt so tame and 'nice' in comparison, it was their first commercial hit but ultimately having a hit when you're an anarcho-punk band doesn't go down too well with your fans, so they lost most of their old fans who were replaced by a new bunch of fans and well, they became a one hit wonder and the the rest is history, but you know times change, people grow up and have families to pay for, so what ya gunna do! I've met Boff the lead guitarist a few times as we're both fell runners, a niche UK version of mountain running, and Boff was a very talented fell runner. Their first album 'Pictures of Starving Children Sell Records' is a corker and well worth a listen, though some might find it a little hard to swallow as it's very political.
I did make the mistake of frosting my hair in the early 2000s. I have not, however, drank so much that as one comedian put it been so drunk that i "pissed in a mailbox while singing Danny Boy".
Your reaction when you first started hearing lyrics was great, it's like "wait, I know this song!" Almost *everyone* has heard this song, they just don't know it by title or by artist name. Speaking of title name, you have it wrong in the video title: it's "Tubthumping". Tubthumper is the name of the album.

You gonna copy and paste this to every reaction?
@@DerekDerekDerekDerekDerekDerek - have you met Danbert? It's a great Danbert story.
Great song.
The song that launched a million hangovers.
More than 14 years ago. It came out in 97 so 26 years ago 😮
Ah...the 90's.

tubthumping is a British term that means expressing yourself in a dramatic or loud manner
This song was released on 1997 when i was about 13 yrs old everytime i heard this song during 90s anywhere i always stop and listen to it until it finish and i continued walking and start singing
I'm friends with the singer! My dads old band supported Chumbawamba back in the late 80s
Well, then… Merry Christmas from an old New York, punk rocker!
It’s been on my playlist like forever

That entire album rules. Holds up very well too!
Yes, absolutely !
I remember dancing this song in Dance Dance Revolution back in 99.
I danced crazy to this song at the club Berlin in Chicago. It was great!

I absolutely agree with you!
such a cool reaction. just loved it.

You need to look up the “Seekers” singing the most well known song in all of Australia. It is called :I am Australian”. You will not be disappointed.
Chumbawamba is my all-time favorite band. As with most 'one-hit-wonder' bands, this song is not representative of their overall catalogue of music.
This is an Irish pub song after a soccer match

The post-tubthumping stuff is actually pretty good. I've got a soft spot for Un.
Also, If I'm being completely honest, even this song grew on me over time.
I hated this song when it came out but like it now
NFL Hall of Fame, Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre's theme song. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

TUBTHUMPING not tubthumper
Ultimate floor filler, great bar song
One call away by dad harmony

Also it's from 1997 and not when the video was uploaded.
shoot i was 17 when this came out
This song only makes sense if you understand British pub culture.
Stop messing with your hair!
