And all of their music has such a classic sound & vibe to it. Almost as if they are from another time period, while still being innovative and making music unlike ANY other band. There is only 1 Mastodon
in an age where everythins is protooled out of its mind and noise gated, staccato palm mute riffed and sterile there is Brent fucking Hinds. I am glad ive had the pleasure to see this man and this incredible band perform three times
@westley0720 Crack the Skye solo is at 1:56. If you're talking about the album, Hearts Alive (the solo at 1:10) is off of Leviathan. corb was right so it looks like you're the dunce 'nuff said.
@bobsters34 its on the dvd that came with the deluxe edition of Blood Mountain. The majority of it is on youtube I think, if you search making of blood mountain and what not.
@akathasamurai haha thats actually a good story. I was at that particular show and for whatever reason a friend of mine had a harmonica with him and was playing it in the car all the way to the show. and then towards the end of the CTS set he decided he would throw it on stage. And right at about 0:20 seconds in to this video thats what Brent was picking up off the ground at the end of Aqua Dementia and you can hear him playing it if you listen hard enough.
Soadek: na I think there just ballads they put as the last song for each album. Pendulous skin is more psychedelic and Joseph Merrick is darker and more mysterious like how they wanted the album to end. Just my opinion
@@homemadebalognasandwitch8677 That was a 5 year old comment you just responded to. For shame. By the way, they're both about the Elephant Man (Joseph Merrick). No wonder they're similar. There was also the track "Elephant Man" on Remission.
I just love the soul in brents playing it is so old school and really sloppy in a way which I appreciate… nobody likes that technical prog shit IMO I hate it, mastodon does it perfect in every way
He hybrid picks actually, not common at all for a metal guy to do that and very progressive when you think about it. He isn't the most technical guy but I wouldn't call him sloppy, he has better technique than 99% of blues geezers.
OH MY FUCKING GOD (this is an idiot coment) BILL with a Ride The Lightning shirt at 1:26.. awesome... and what can i say about brent... he is amazing... fuck yeah!
i know it's funny..i'm thinking he did it because he was getting the tattoo that he now has, i don't have any tattoos let a lone on my head, but maybe he had to do that?? maybe he lost a bet? Just my guesses
Nice. I was at a show with a band called "Quit your dayjob" and I threw a bottle onstage. (wasnt trying to hit anyone or so just discretly threw it up there cause I had finished it). anyway I was sort of drunk and I shouted "play us some slide" and the guitarrist did just that. :-)
Fucking legend. Best solos in modern metal. Such an underrated musician, as are the other members
Brent is like a modern day version of the guitar players from the 70's
Anybody else really like the solo from The Last Baron?
nah it sux it's garbage
I really enjoy it. Such a great song. Such a bummer that they just repeat the lyrics tho
Dear Mastodon thank you for maintaining my faith in metal and modern music.
Keep it heavy and strong.
And all of their music has such a classic sound & vibe to it. Almost as if they are from another time period, while still being innovative and making music unlike ANY other band. There is only 1 Mastodon
@@sinisterminister9920 Mastodon is the reason my ears reject 90% of modern rock music. No band like them
The most underrated guitar player in modern day metal 🤘
Hearts Alive solo is my personal favourite of all time.
A solo in Oblivion is the best solo ever played!
I've been playing guitar for 9 years and I still can't fathom being even close to as good as Brent.
Vann Poopballs Now it’s been 14 yrs. I bet you’re even fucking better now!
He's actually not all that good
@@pthibault630 Be quiet Bum
@@jedisponge16 He's not, though. Sorry, not sorry.
all about hearts alive....grrreat
What I get from his playing is a pure gnarly crazy expressive love...right on.
4:30 Wish he did more of that.
He FUCKING NAILED that Oblivion Solo.
The clip of the Hearts Alive solo was some raw shit. Fucking great song to headbang to
Thats how you fucking play guitar. Some kick ass southern fried american shredding
Damn Brent went nuts on hearts alive
The Czar wins.
Hearts Alive wins
@teethandtalons
that song is called Pendulous Skin, and its really the only released song that has that kind of sound to it.
in an age where everythins is protooled out of its mind and noise gated, staccato palm mute riffed and sterile there is Brent fucking Hinds. I am glad ive had the pleasure to see this man and this incredible band perform three times
The Capillarian Crest chicken pick'n is just amazing.
Brent should do stand up.
ya his comedy is better than his awful solos
@@mrmisterman999 bitch U probably struggle to pull the G flat pentonic scale together in a listenable way stfu
I love the end of the vid. A big kick ass band like Mastodon just jamming in a room like the rest of us. Awesome.
@crustyskater
if you are asking what song it it's from then it's Hearts Alive from their album Leviathan. Go buy it now.
@teethandtalons It's from the making of Blood Mountain video, it's on youtube somewhere
FUCKIN HEARTS ALIVE. that solo was sick.
Dear Fuck, the Hearts Alive solo is damn awesome!
Nice one!! You saved me about 3 hours searching for Brent Hinds solos on youtube.
Solo at 4:26 fucking rules

6 people stopped playing guitar.. shame
too bad there's no other good modern metal bands that can compare to these guys, i guess that's just curl of the burl ;)
Brent rocked the shit out of the "The Last Baron" solo...Oh yes...
Well... Joseph Merrick from the album Leviathan is actually pretty close to Pendelous Skin.

@6606devil69 LOL. Megalodon is the song name.
he reminds me of jason newsted with short hair
i wish there were more like it. this is my favorite song by mastodon
@spiny144 and now I'm hoping they'll use one in the future... Like the banjo in divinations.
Wonder what that kast song was.....thats not domething that made the album was it?
A. Monster.

I've always felt that the "sloppiness" is actually passion overflowing. Tech shit lacks heart.
@klee66 i just checked out "hearts alive" upon reading his. Just epicness, good call.
awesome
It's weird seeing Brent without his mane. Him with short hair just weirds me out
Cobalt Falcon He cut it this year my dude. Both times I saw him it was chopped short.
A fucking monster
pretty sure i was at the show with the harmonica solo
Hes pretty good man.
@MrDenAlec actually he was, he did so in order to get his headtatoo.
@akathasamurai if you look closely he pulls out a harmonica
8:29 starts off with Emerald by Thin Lizzy. Then it gets fucking heavy and awesome
Chris Caldera so after Emerald is not a recorded song?
Luis Daniel Rivas Baguer it's gotta be the bit, a melvins cover. heavy as hell!
the first song is megalodon. that's what he's saying.
what video is the pro shot from 5:40 from?
1:51 - 1:55 Bubbles from Trailer Park :D
where can i find more of him playing like that in 4:45
WTF! LOL at his hair - 04:30

Hearts Alive
Some of these aren't even solos but will accept!
The only good guitar player who can look completely different each time you see him.
Mastodon ftw.
where did you get the part when they play emerald?
@akathasamurai that would be epic
where'd you get the vid at 4:44 from?
you made a mistake in the description. its actuakky mastodon (unless it was megalodon before but now its mastodon)
@corb1776 Hahaha that's fucking awesome!
never seen that clip of pendulous skin where is it from
Search "mastodon over the mountain", series of clips they shot for blood mountain
What guitar is he using there ?? :)
@nintendomissions Hearts Alive
00:29 what live is?
What the fuck did it say about a harmonica solo?

Brent is such an underrated guitarist, and he's not a flashy player which is great.
Song at :30?

at 4:26 brent looks bald LOLZ!
What's the song that starts at 7:00 ?!
Think thats last baron.
What song is in 1:10 ?

Hillbilly Van Halen
@NavySealRay I have done it man, it's a lot of fun:)

why the fuck didn't you pick up if brent hinds was calling?
Just one good solo in Emperor of sand though, and a bunch of weak ass ones...I'm depressed.
Definitely not the best of his solos, but they arent weak. I still quite enjoyed them
Juan Pablo Vivanco roots remain and jaguar God are some of the best he's ever done.
