The Howa is not a copy of the Remington 700. For a time in the 1960s, Howa produced SAKOs under license. Howa Golden Bears are direct copies of SAKO L69s. The 1500 is a derivative of that design. The Remington 700 is a simplification of the Remington 721/722/725, which itself was a post war reengineering of the Remington Model 720, a design descended from the Enfield Pattern 13, a Mauser derivative on steroids. The Howa 1500 is a derivative of the Swedish Mauser action ultimately. Both designs are derived from small ring Mausers.
I did 3 videos prior to this video which have so far garnered about 8000 views. Out of those views not all comments were positive which is good, I don't expect every viewer to agree with my opinions. Although there were no comments regarding my speech or presentation! However as soon as I did this video it would appear that my speech has to the ears of some suddenly degenerated into a bunch of incomprehensible gibberish. I will say this now, I own a Remington 700 Long Range, a Remington 7615 pump, 2 Remington made Marlins and have a Remington 7600 in 270 on order. If I hate Remington why would I own and LOVE said Remington rifles? Not one person has suggested that the Remington bolt design was better, not one person has suggested that the Remington trigger was better and not one person has suggested that the Remington recoil lug was better! These were the aspects of the Remington where I consider the Howa to be a better designed. All the negative reactions have been without exception been about my speech and presentation. That seems a lot like people who have no tangible or cogent criticisms about the comparison so therefore reverting to low ball trash talk. I'm comparing rifles not screen testing for Mary F.....G Poppins! There, I had to get that out of my system.
The truth is the truth. I like both also but like you say the howa wins hands down on the points you make, and it's cheaper too. I hope my 7600 won't have ejection problems. A quick action is the whole point of buying the pump. Are there better ejectors for them also.
@@GIANTSECRETS Haven't had a problem with mine. Full length sizing pretty much eliminates extraction problems and with the Buffalo River bulk packs I don't bother reloading, for now anyway. Thanks for commenting.
The steel used by Howa is renowned worldwide as the best there is. The design of the Howa is extremely simple and strong. The bolt is exactly why I prefer the Howa along with the 2 stage HACT trigger. Since I own a few of each, and my guns are pretty old, I just plain old fashioned like these old Howas a little better,.
I was looking for a .308 bolt rifle with a 18-20 inch barrel. I went to a large gun store and checked out offerings from Remington, Savage, Ruger and the Salesman showed me a Howa 20 inch heavy barrel . I had heard of them but a quick internet search later and I chose the Howa.. to me it looked and felt like a better quality firearm. And 110 dollars cheaper than the Remington! Out the door with the rifle, Leupold rings and bases, Sig Sauer Whiskey 3 scope- mounted, and 2 boxes Prvi 155 grain match ammo. $617USD! Thanks for the video showing the difference. Glad I grabbed the Howa. Friday going to range to zero and test!
Correct me if I am wrong (following from an AI): Safety Functionality: The 609 trigger does not have a 3-way safe (full safe, middle safe, and fire), whereas the 611 trigger (designed for Weatherby Vanguard) retains this feature. The 609 trigger will only have a 2-way safe (full safe and fire). Compatibility: The 609 trigger is designed for Howa 1500 rifles with HACT triggers, while the 611 trigger is designed for Weatherby Vanguard rifles. The 611 trigger will “drop” in without modification on a new Howa 1500 with HACT trigger, as it has provision for the bolt lock function.
Great video mate. I have an old Howa 1500 stainless in 22-250 that is pre HACT trigger and 2 position safety, shoots like a demon after 3000 odd rounds. All I have done is glass bedding, polish the sear and drop in a lighter trigger spring.
howa trigger is three position safety lol. although it was inaccurate in many ways, it was a genuine discussion of the superiority of howa. good vid, and enjoyed the casual way you discussed it.
Just got my first Howa recently (6.5 APC) and I’m sold on them, best bang for your bucks hands down. I was deciding on the Howa vs a Ruger Precision vs a Remington 700. After MANY MANY VIDEOS , many times handling and looking at rifles, and just researching. Howa 1500 was it and SOOOO GLAD I DECIDED ON IT. Excellent rifles of excellent craftsmanship.
Wow looks like I lucked into a hell of a rifle. Local gun shop had a howa 1500 in 308 for $350 with optic (albeit kinda garbo optic) and I picked it up to match my other rifles caliber after many months hunting for a 700 in 308 and being frustrated by the starting price of $600+.... Wasn't expecting for it to actually be an upgrade. At 100 yards with trash ammo its slightly better than 1 MOA I have been unable to acquire match ammo to see what its really capable of but it seems the sky is the limit.
Had a weatherby in 223 Vanguard.. 16years old and still shoots like a dream.. I've now just bought a Howa 1500 VT in 308win can't wait to put it thought the paces and put some handloads together and see how she shoots
So I picked up the howa 308, only just started load development but at a min load of 2208 @ 42gn it's shooting just under MOA and it's still in a Hodge stock as my Bell & Carlson has not come yet... so far very very promising.. I've 50rounds loaded up to continue load development.. hoping for 0.5MOA 👍 bullets are Speer 165gn SPBT
Correct, the trigger on the rifle is a Timney, which is 2 position only. I changed it out as soon as I got it so I couldn't remember. No excuse because that's the third Howa I've owned.
There's a 2 position safety on the older Howa model 1500s and the newer ones have a 3 position safety. I have both. I also have an older Remington BDL in 30/06 and that old gun is very good. My howa 30/06 has a single stage trigger is one of the older ones and is as accurate but not more accurate with my handloads.
Man I just picked up a howa 1500 stainless in 30-06 for $400 and the guy threw in the better part of a box of the old silver tip Ammo by Winchester I think. Not sure about who made it. How did I do?😀😀
Nice video. Howa's, I find to be more accurate off the shelf except if comes with the dreaded cheap hogue plastic stock! Howa's are simply the best considering the cost. Simple, reliable, affordable, accurate and customization is a breeze. Love my Howa's
Im about to buy my first 308. The candidates are Remington 700, Ruger American, Browning A-Bolt, Bergara B14 Hunter, Tikka T3, Weatherby Vanguard S2 and Howa 1500. Which one is most quality for the money? And which one is the most accurate? Im feeling lost in the jungle..
OK, here are my thoughts. Without exception the best value is Howa, it's a product with decades of track record and you will not find a stainless rifle of that quality at the same price point. The most accurate out of the box in theory would be either the Tikka or the Bergara but this is an extremely subjective topic and is a can of worms on it's own. The Weatherby Vanguard is a rebadged Howa. Howa have been making them for Weatherby for decades. The weatherbys come with nicer stocks but otherwise, same same. Browning or Miroku make excellent guns, I don't know anyone who has a bad thing to say about the brand. The problem is price and what are you getting for the extra money? Ruger American is another runner in the race to the bottom with every brand under the sun cramming their el cheapo gun into an already bulging budget bin. I've seen a 22 mag stainless shoot like a laser, do they all shoot like lasers? probably not. The Remington is a real minefield. I own 2 Remingtons and 2 Remington made Marlins and love all of them. At one time for whatever reason the Remington 700 was considered to be "the rifle" if you had the money. That has changed with QC being a problem but in my experience they are great guns. Another thing to consider is after market support and Remington and Howa are number 1. I like box mags but not the variety so most times I fit an alloy AI compatible bottom metal just like the Ruger Scout that way I can have 1 magazine for all.. So if you are looking at a new rifle buy the Howa.
@@cannaventureseeds2909 I can’t agree on the Bergara! I bought a new B14 and as is my custom completely disassembled it to clean and lube it. When I removed the bolt shroud I saw two things. It was a cheap stamped pig metal and the threads on both sides were mashed flat which is a huge safety issue. So I called them and was told they were supposed be that way. Uh huh. So I hung up and called again to get someone else. I was variously told it’s no big deal, they fired the company that made them AND no they wouldn’t sell me a steel one that they use on their premier action. A $25 part but they were obviously told by the company not to admit anything is wrong! So I literally had to buy the entire Premier bolt for $275 just to make a brand new gun usable. If you do a search on youtube here about broken bolt shrouds you’ll see what I’m talking about. So fuck Bergara. Never again will they see a cent from me.
I personally use Timneys, almost without exception where precision is required. A trigger upgrade is probably the easiest way to improve accuracy straight up.
Should have done more homework. The parent of the Howa was the Sako L60. Howa after WW2 was selling a clone of the L60 called the Golden Bear. Roy Weatherby made a deal, with Howa to manufacture their copy of the L60, and sell it as the Vanguard. Sako sued them of course. Howa and Roy made a couple of changes. They removed the third locking lug and the bolt guide. The L60 was considered the state of the art in push feed design untill the WBY MK5 was introduced. Some other big differences are that the reciever on the Rem is a drilled piece of bar stock. The Howa 1500 receiver is machined from a forged billet with machine recoil lug. The recoil lug on the Rem is a washer fitted to the end of the receiver. The bolt on the Rem is not solid. The bold handle is attatched, and the locking lugs are a separate piece. The bolt on the MDl 1500 is machine from a solid billet handle and all. I have owned both and will always choose the Howaby.
Thanks for watching and commenting. The problem with what I think you are referring to is the L61 Finnbear as being the parent of the Howa 1500 is that the L61 is a controlled round feed action, the Howa and Remington are not. Yes the Golden Bear was apparently an almost exact copy of the Finnbear but again both are controlled round feed. I'm harping on about controlled round feed because it represents a serious difference in bolt design. Howa do not and probably never will disclose exactly which designs they copied / borrowed from to produce the 1500. The Remington 700 was around since 1962 and would have offered much opportunity for assessment by Howa engineers. Never having owned a Finnbear I cannot give an informed assessment of the similarities. However the fact that the Howa was designed to accept Remington scope bases lends some credence to the idea that aspects of the Rem 700 were utilised in the final design of the Howa. I can't believe that Howa were interested only in what bases the 700 took and totally disregarded everything else about the design. Now Regardless of who copied what I do consider the Howa to be superior, nevertheless functionally I don't really have a preference, they both work fine. I have mentioned in a previous vid about the bolt handle being brazed on to the bolt body but forgot this time and I do point out the difference in recoil lug design and actions which leads me to believe that you got bored of my incessant droning and switched off prematurely, totally understandable. I'm interested in what you think of my suppositions.
You forgot 2 other major differences in the bolt design. 1) The Howa 1500 has three large vent holes on the side of the bolt whereas the Remington 700 has only a small vent hole to let burning gas escape in the event of a pierced primer. 2) The Howa 1500 has an AR-type case extractor while the Remington 700 has a ring-type case extractor.
I purchased a Webley & Scott Empire in 270win...I honestly believe I now own the best all around rifle...the Howa action is a streamlined Sako...the HACT trigger leaves nothing to want- the italian wood that came on my rifle rivals any Winchester SuperGrade wood. Thx for the video.
Just today I purchased a Howa 1500 Heavy Barrel in .308. I have a mid-60s produced 700 BDL in 30-06, but just looking at the two side by side, I think the Howa has better features, even though they are more than fifty years apart in production. Enjoyed your comparison.
Thanks bud, yeah you have a mega channel. I'm no expert but what ya see is what ya get. Sorry for not replying sooner but I was working in the "Outback" until today.
Howa has a HUGE following in South Africa and it is the no 1 seller here because they are very accurate and are bullet proof strong. These things out shoot ANY factory rifle!

@@erichkaufmann5284 I think that the point is that on a dollar for dollar scale Howas out shoot most others in the price range but are definitely not the most accurate rifle overall.

Nice review mate, just bought a 308 for my son and im not a techie when it comes to rifles and have always been a sako guy. However what an underestimated rifle this is! Good buy for the boy me thinks👍
The Howa quality control is much better than recent Remington products, and a Howa barreled action is an excellent foundation for a custom rifle should you wish to build one. My 1500 Miniaction has uncanny accuracy for a $550 rifle. M When Freedom Group purchased Remington most people knew that the end would come for Remington. Freedom Group buys companies and sucks them dry for short term profits then spits them out. Pretty sad to see a great American firearms company turned to garbage.
I have a howa 308. sub moa with 165. And 168 gr bullets. It will not group with anything under 165 gr.I did put a timney trigger on it.One screw to install.
My experience with recently made Rem rifles is good. Both my Remlins (1894 44 mag & SBL 45/70) are excellent and my 700 is really smooth and well built. So I can't agree that everything they make is garbage.
yup my experience with the R700 has been flawless,i have shot some a few years back that had some qwerks, but remingtons quality controls has gotten better imo,ill still take a rem rifle over most.
Remingtons budget rifles are crap. The 700 series is still okish, just cheaper finishes, crap stocks, and rougher metal finish. Buy a used Rem 700 ADL or BDL, see the differences between finish processes from then and now.
Remington 700 ADL .308 Vmt. from Cabela's shoots MOA with 168 SMKs out of the box as is. Restocked, recrowned, new trigger, broken in, I get .65 MOA with 168 TMKs, 1:12 factory barrel, and my eyes aren't as bright as they used to be. My Howa 1500 Vmt, restocked, lapped bolt, trigger work, .308 1:12, gives me about .9 MOA with the same 168 TMKs. Metal work and finish much better on the Howa by a mile I will say.
Gobangs11 I hope I didn't hurt your feelings. Just, it was difficult to understand what you were saying. Get a better mic or speak more clearly. You had a good topic. Just poor presentation.
I was using an external mic, the difficulty in understanding may stem from my antipodian English. Aussies sound different, no offence taken. As far as presentation, well what you see is what you get, warts and all.
This... Err...... Ummmm... Much better... Errrr..... Err..... Big difference..... Ummmm..... You know... Errrrrrr there's a reason for that.... Um... Yea.... Er..........
I had rem 700s they have all been replaced with a howa.Better product and rem cant seem to get their scope mount screw holes dead center of the action which means to site it in you have to go way left on your scopes left to right to get it sighted in.
As far as 700s I can only refer to the Long Range that you see in the vid which is honestly a great rifle. Clearly there was a period of production where standards were compromised resulting in a lot of folks jumping off Remington. As far as the Rem made rifles that I own ( the Long Range,7615 and 2 Ilion Marlins) my opinion is that Remington while not to their former standards are nonetheless producing nice guns. In fact I have a 7600 on order so my gun safe will contain more Remingtons than any other brand. Remington has for a long time offered budget guns, as an example the 788, unfortunately there seems to be a race to the bottom as far as budget priced guns are concerned and the old established companies have decided to ( whether from economic necessity or market realities ) join in. No doubt this would be one of the factors for standards dropping over the years. When companies like Mauser start making budget guns ( or what would be considered a budget German gun ) you know that they are checking their six. There are soooo many budget guns these days that it has gotten pretty crazy. How this pans out will be interesting because I honestly don't think that the market will support what is currently happening. Maybe I'm wrong and even more cheap guns will appear but I'm pessimistic about the sustainability of the current trend. Anyhoo sorry about the segue but my 700 is nice with a bolt so smooth that I was shocked when I first cycled it and even though the trigger is lousy which I always change out anyway ) the rest of the gun is sweet. Thanks for commenting, hope I haven't overloaded you with gibberish.
Looks a bit like a Weatherby. I think the Weatherby Mark 5 Accumark is better, but this is nice. I’ll look into trying one out. Looks like quality gun for sure. Remington is useless to me, since I am not a fan of the ‘Remington Moment’ or purchasing guns from companies that no longer exist.
I bought a 700 Long Range a while ago and I honestly have nothing bad to say about it. I think that Remington have gotten their act together build quality wise.
It is not as bad as some people claim. A Cat A and B licence is typically acquired through the firearms licencing branch of your states police dept. This licence requires a thorough criminal check. Violent, drugs related or firearms related convictions normally will prevent acquisition or at least make it hard. For this licence you may apply for sporting purposes or recreational but once acquired you may engage in both. The purchasing of firearms for self defence is not an option for the average person. With the A and B licence you may purchase and use centrefire, shotgun, rimfire and air rifle in bolt action, straight pull, lever action and pump action(not shotgun). So all semi auto firearms and pump action shotguns fall under a more restrictive category of licence. They are not impossible to get but require that the individual prove the necessity for using in typically a professional capacity such as professional pest control or rural land owners/managers with acreage over a certain size. You may own up to 30 firearms before a collectors licence is needed. Pistols fall under a different category again for sporting purpose, you are not allowed to hunt with pistols. There are certain requirements to keeping a pistol licence such as proving that you are actually engaging in sports even if only practicing, so several times a year you must shoot at an accredited range with a signature from the range master otherwise you are deemed as no longer having a legitimate reason for keeping said pistol permit. Again the concept of citizens acquiring firearms for the purpose of self defense is serious taboo and the very mention of such an idea is met with every fringe loony going into apoplexy. Criminals with violent intent have every right to murder or maim whilst citizens who defend themselves with firearms seen as psychopaths bent on murderous rampages once they have the taste for blood. As crazy as this seems it is pretty much what the anti gun freakazoids here have as part of their SJW/delusional socialist/Vegan tofu munching manifesto. Also the police may call by anytime you are home to make sure your firearms are being properly stored, where I live ammunition and propellants fall under the jurisdiction of the dept of natural resources mines and energy, a bit strange but I have not been hassled by any one ever, they have better things to do. Hope this sheds some light on the subject
@@gobangs1117 That sucks. Bigtime sucks. America is headed rapidly in that direction. However, as a machinist with my own equipment, the idea of me being without firearms is laughable at best. Good luck down there. You might look up Montana and consider emigration.
@@dankcincy It is what it is. At least we can own up to twenty firearms on a rec/sport license, unlike some European countries where barrel swappers are the only way to own multiple calibers.
I own a HOWA TSPX 6.5PRC & hands down quality and performance up there with an equivalent rifle in the $2000 range. Calling it the best bang for its buck can somehow be misconstrued as it being a cheap alternative, It is no alternative!
I was totally expecting flack from Remington people but the reality is that the Rem design is dated and inferior to it's emulators. Nobody in the firearms industry has copied said trigger design for reasons that are obvious. The rifle that you see is my own so please do not assume that I am denigrating The model 700. It is an iconic rifle that has withstood the test of time. The trigger has been a sore point for Rem with law suits, recalls and or financial reimbursements for who knows how many owners. It is not the best design available....FACT. Again, I'm not heaping shit on the 700, just pointing out the differences it has with the Howa. Howa copied the Rem and so did Bergarra and Sabatti, obviously because the 700 has a lot of good aspects. However if you are going to copy something then why not improve on it? They did and good for them, imitation is the highest form of flattery. 2 mins to replace a 700 trigger is totally amazing, perhaps you could do a video of said process.
Yes it was hard. in that the pins were incredibly tight and needed more than a reasonable amount of hammering to drive out. Perhaps my rifle is an exception to the rule nevertheless it is the only example I had to work with. Also complicating matters was the bolt release mechanism being a part of the trigger setup. Less than ideal! I do have a fitting background so I'm some ham fisted gumby and do have some idea about parts tolerances.
Not really from the 700 only group. Just can't take anything you say as serious, if you struggle with a trigger replacement. Is a Howard an "improved" design? Sure. I'm just pointing out its not hard to change a trigger.
No need to cut springs just heated mine up with a bic lighter and compressed it 3mm or so, honed and polished the sears and now it's adjusted shade over 1lb 10oz no creep and surviving all drop tests for accidental drops short of destroying the stock did the same for my 7600 pump 30.06 Sprg. it's at 2lb 5oz non adjustable and very little creep, not too difficult. Yes I agree the Remington at nearly twice the retail price is just for the name, and that trigger by comparison on the 700 rem is quite fiddly.
Thanks for commenting.Heating the spring to where you are able to compress it may alter the crystalline structure of the metal detrimentally. I would not advise it.
Owning both rifles in 30-06 the Weatherby Vanguard was a much better rifle they both were accurate shooting their is no doubt Remington needs to redesign some things like Ruger did with the 22 auto pistol in 1949 and the single action revolver the Howa line of rifles are top of the line especially for the price.
I love my Remington but the trigger is not good enough, period! There is only one firearm that I own that I have not replaced part/parts on, my Marlin (Remington made) SBL 45/70 which is brilliant!
I don't hunt crocs ( It's illegal ). I wasn't aware they were focused on Timney addicted croc hunters when designing their trigger attachment system, there you go you learn something knew every day. Also I'm not familiar with the disintegrating sniper rifle bolt. Thanks for commenting.
Tried to help a Mate out yesterday with his brand new Remington 700 VTR.What a crap rifle compared to the Howa. Both 308. Trigger on the Remington is like pulling teeth. Factory set at 9lb???
i own a weatherby vanguard S2 which is basically a Howa 1500 they are great rifles. Quite often half the price of remingtons also which is another plus. I got mine in 6.5x55 swede but the only thing original is the action as ive put a 30" heavy kreiger barrel on and aftermarket stock. i ended up cutting my tension spring in the trigger down to get about 1 pound trigger pull its lovely now. im in WA by the way.
Thanks for commenting mate. Yes the Vanguard is a Howa, I've seen some people say that the Vanguards barrel is made in America but that is not true. Weatherby buys complete barrelled actions from Howa. When Roy Weatherby's son suggested the idea of marketing Japanese made "budget" rifles old Roy was not too thrilled and did not believe it a good idea, boy was he wrong. Howa has a long history of quality firearms manufacturing since 1907 so they know what they are doing and the improvements that they made to the Remington action are self evident. All of my Howas have been kick ass guns of fantastic value for money. I'm a Timney addict but there is definitely nothing wrong with the Howa trigger! You probably have the best shooter that I know of on the RUclips channel "Mark and Sam After Work" over there in WA. if you are not familiar with them check them out, they shoot like champions and I'm talking thousands of metres seriously accurately, his rifles are typically a quarter MOA, Howa, Remington you name it.
Mark and Sam after work, yeah they are great hey. I watch all their videos they are bloody great at dropping long bombs in at a few thousand meters. i do 500m fly benchrest and f class open with my 6.5x55 but the longest ive shot is 900m which i shoot in F-class regularly. I want to have a go at 1600 - 2000m but dont have anywhere to try that far nearby my house i will have to go to my mates property a few hours away. Do you do any long range shooting?
I recently purchased the Remington Long Range that you see in the video for distance shooting. I'm still in the process of setting it up to where I want it so it will be interesting to see how that goes. I'll post a vid of my efforts. The longest shooting I can do at the moment is 1000 metres at my local range but I know people with huge cattle stations who I might coerce into letting me go really long. I also have a .243 Howa that I've set up nicely for distance and have to load up some rounds in the next day or two. I've been pretty busy with work which has prevented me from doing as much as I'd like. I'd like to get a 96 Swede to shoot service rifle with but they a bit scarce these days and getting quite pricey. One thing with regards to long range is good glass. Currently I only have one really decent scope for said purpose and that is a Delta Optics Titanium 4.8 - 30 x 56, fantastic scopes at a fraction of the price of the big names, a definite steal at their price point. Richard Utting reviews them on his channel and his recommendation got me to buy one. Another good channel to watch.
Yeah good glass with spot on repeatable turrets is needed for long range target work. I use a sightron S3 8-32x56 on my rig and the glass is close to nightforce glass very good for the price $1400 new i got mine for $800 second hand so i was wrapped with that.
Ah OK, well at 35 C and 95% humidity it gets sweaty. Actually now that you mention it I'm surprised that the less positive commenters have not criticised me for sweating. Howas rule!

good video mate, 🙂. good information and agree completely, I would say some friendly advice, write out what your thinking to talk about then you'll have less, umm, uhh,,...blank, you'll get many more subs when your more polished I believe.. keep up the good work
David Flores don't get me wrong, Remington are not garbage by any stretch, but when the chips are down Howa is a better bet. I own 4 Remington made rifles and would not swap them. But as far as bolt actions go Howas rule.
On the contrary considering the foundation of the howa 1500 and model 70 are the flat bottom and integrated recoil lug vs a 700 tube action. (If you want to be picky the howa is an improvement over the mouser 98 which also had the action screw at the recoil lug). Google m1895 and you will know where rem, howa and most manufactures copied they're bolt design from. :) Either way we both can agree the howa is fine modern action!
The Howa is not a copy of the Remington 700. For a time in the 1960s, Howa produced SAKOs under license. Howa Golden Bears are direct copies of SAKO L69s. The 1500 is a derivative of that design. Since I own a few of each, and my guns are pretty old, I just plain old fashioned like these old Howas a little better,.
I have a Howa 1500 30-06 and a early 90's Rem 700ADL wood stock in 30-06. I like the Howa 1500 more
Liked your honest review so subscribed. Definitely will look at Howa in a different light after your disassembly video.
I own Remingtons but Howas are my go to bolt guns, thanks for commenting.
You can't go wrong with a Howa! Thanks for commenting.
Correct me if I am wrong (following from an AI):
Safety Functionality: The 609 trigger does not have a 3-way safe (full safe, middle safe, and fire), whereas the 611 trigger (designed for Weatherby Vanguard) retains this feature.
You wondered why the Howa had only a two position safety (I guess that was with the Timney trigger.
Excellent colorful review! You are hard core, like all my friends WW2 Dad’s I grew up with.
Thankyou. By the way I was born well after WW2 regardless of my geriatric appearance.

Great video mate. I have an old Howa 1500 stainless in 22-250 that is pre HACT trigger and 2 position safety, shoots like a demon after 3000 odd rounds. All I have done is glass bedding, polish the sear and drop in a lighter trigger spring.
Nice video. I'm thinking of picking up a Howa 1500 chambered in .308 in New Zealand.
Great Video, I think this sold me on the Howa
You won't be disappointed.
Anyday mate!!
had my howa 1500 in .308 for 5 years, never missed abit.. great gun for price
I recently finished a Howa 1500 in 6.5 Grendel. With the archangel stock, it's my go to light precision rifle.
Thanks for the good info. I never knew Howa was such a good rifle. I need to give them a try
You won't regret it, I assure you.
Very Smooth and ultra reliable. Can take the knocks no worries mate. Made in Japan. Great Craftsmanship these days guaranteed.
howa trigger is three position safety lol. although it was inaccurate in many ways, it was a genuine discussion of the superiority of howa. good vid, and enjoyed the casual way you discussed it.
Thanks mate.
Well said.
Great video, very informative, thanks very much!
Thankyou. Your channel is huge, It's gonna take some time to watch all your stuff.
I shoot Buffalo River these days. A bulk can last ages and the price and quality are excellent. Thanks for commenting.
Had a weatherby in 223 Vanguard.. 16years old and still shoots like a dream.. I've now just bought a Howa 1500 VT in 308win can't wait to put it thought the paces and put some handloads together and see how she shoots
I had a 308 sporter, MOA with Aussie Outback ammo. Keep me posted.
Still waiting on the PTA
So I picked up the howa 308, only just started load development but at a min load of 2208 @ 42gn it's shooting just under MOA and it's still in a Hodge stock as my Bell & Carlson has not come yet... so far very very promising.. I've 50rounds loaded up to continue load development.. hoping for 0.5MOA 👍 bullets are Speer 165gn SPBT
I have no doubt you will achieve half MOA. I love Bell and Carlson, excellent value for money.
So 45gn's is the Go!! 0.570in
Loved the video.. Just starting to look at Howa s. Very reasonably priced.
Howas are definitely the best bang for your buck. Thanks for commenting.
Waiting on a howa stainless now. Got a good Black Friday deal.
Sweet.
Nice presentation. One thing though, the Howa 1500 does actually come standard with a three position safety not two.
How did I do?😀😀
Sounds good to me.
Nice video. Howa's, I find to be more accurate off the shelf except if comes with the dreaded cheap hogue plastic stock! Howa's are simply the best considering the cost. Simple, reliable, affordable, accurate and customization is a breeze. Love my Howa's
Totally agree,
Never knew about the Sako relationship, good stuff.
Can you mount a howa 1500 long action on a remington 700 stock?
No. The foot print of the actions are completely different.
Bergara hands down... smoothest action Ive ever handled. Blew me away!
My friend has a howa and I have a 5R, his rifle shoots good as mine but when I changed my trigger sys to the Kelvin elite, I'm smoking him 😎
I personally use Timneys, almost without exception where precision is required.
Actually I point out those differences pretty early on in the vid.

Webley and Scott, very nice. Thanks for commenting.
A streamlined SAKO is called Tikka. ) It would be great if Howa had a three lug bolt.
Just today I purchased a Howa 1500 Heavy Barrel in .308. I have a mid-60s produced 700 BDL in 30-06, but just looking at the two side by side, I think the Howa has better features, even though they are more than fifty years apart in production. Enjoyed your comparison.

When Freedom Group purchased Remington most people knew that the end would come for Remington. Freedom Group buys companies and sucks them dry for short term profits then spits them out. Pretty sad to see a great American firearms company turned to garbage.

Everything Remington makes is garbage now.
I agree I bought a 700 such a overrated gun

This... Err...... Ummmm... Much better... Errrr..... Err..... Big difference..... Ummmm..... You know... Errrrrrr there's a reason for that.... Um... Yea.... Er..........
The HOWA is NOT a “copy of the 700”. The HOWA is so Superior to any 700 made after 1970 it’s not even comparable.
Id take a howa over a Remington anyday. Remington used to make good firearms and ammunition years ago,the stuff they are making today is garbage.
Nice review brother!
The Weatherby Vanguard is a Howa with a rear bolt shroud and different stock. Otherwise they are exactly the same.
The old 700 were pretty good, howas however are much better made.Rem cant even get the scope base holes in the reciever centered.
I bought a 700 Long Range a while ago and I honestly have nothing bad to say about it. I think that Remington have gotten their act together build quality wise.
Just out of curiosity, how invasive and PITA is the process to buy and keep rifles Down Under these days?

@@gobangs1117
That sounds like a MAJOR pain in the ass considering that we can own anything we want without asking permission from anyone.
I've got a 6.5 CR with 26 inch barrel on the way. Can't wait!
The drop in timney trigger for the Remington 700 was hard to replace? You don't even have to remove the pins all the way.
Ditto! Takes less than 2mins once the stock is off. Best thing that happened to my m700 sps varmint.
Its Howa.
This channel used to have a different name didn't it?
No.
I love my Remington but the trigger is not good enough, period! There is only one firearm that I own that I have not replaced part/parts on, my Marlin (Remington made) SBL 45/70 which is brilliant!
Howa all day. Remington's QC is woeful.
Remington didn't design rifles to make it easy for croc hunters to change their triggers. Or for bolts to fall apart on sniper missions 😖
The HOWA bolt is also superior because it is a one piece forging, not so the Remington, which has the cast handle brazed on, AFAIK.
Correct. I mentioned this in a later Howa vid. Thanks mate.
@@gobangs1117 Cheers M8!
Howas have a m16 extractor. So do vanguards

Next video: Sako vs Bergara...
i own a weatherby vanguard S2 which is basically a Howa 1500 they are great rifles.
Yeah mate, check Richard Utting for reviews of all the good scopes, he has heaps of vids and pulls no punches. I highly recommend the Delta scopes.
Great video, you should do a Bergara comparison video.
the original safety on the howa would be 3 stage it is on mine anyway
Correct, I'm just a Timney addict.
not a thing wrong with that
What finish is the Remington in?
The barrelled action is stainless and comes with a Bell and Carlsson M40 style stock. Thanks for watching.
Gobangs11 is it bead blasted or polished?
Sorry mate, it's blasted.
synthetic materials are to be avoided, causes excessive sweating.
I just hate plastic. However in some cases synthetic is appropriate, I say that because I am buying a Remington 7615P with plastic furniture.
Hmmm...meant your t shirt.. Just taking the piss. As a Howa owner, I really liked your side by side comparison though, cheers.
Ah OK, well at 35 C and 95% humidity it gets sweaty. Actually now that you mention it I'm surprised that the less positive commenters have not criticised me for sweating. Howas rule!
Cheers mate. Cunts whining about a blokes accent, if they sat still and listened, perhaps they might fucken learn something from someone who obviously knows what they're talking about.
P.s. Super surprised by my Howa in .223. A ripper rifle. Considering it in .308.
good video mate, 🙂. good information and agree completely, I would say some friendly advice, write out what your thinking to talk about then you'll have less, umm, uhh,,...blank, you'll get many more subs when your more polished I believe.. keep up the good work
ksportjacket thanks mate, I'm no Brad Pitt.
Howa>Remington
David Flores don't get me wrong, Remington are not garbage by any stretch, but when the chips are down Howa is a better bet. I own 4 Remington made rifles and would not swap them. But as far as bolt actions go Howas rule.
Not a Remington fan.
Take the Sunglasses OFF Coolbreeze😂👎
I have a low tolerance to synthetic light, they are not a fashion statement so NO!
Howa is not a copy of the rem700 it has more in common with the Winchester 70
konjiki240sx correct me if I'm wrong but the Winchester model 70 is a controlled round feed action. That's a big difference.
