People forget about his feet too, especially in his solo he has his high hat going the entire time plus his other leg is constantly keeping a beat as well
@@kgbcorvette I'm sure he's been drunk plenty of other times and didn't have an incident like the one you're referring to. We all have good days and bad days.
The craziest part of this performance is that not only is the rhythm mind blowing. But the accenting on every single drum hit, plus just throwing a few mental fill-ins as well, is sooooo technical. Not many drummers can write this kind of stuff let alone perform it.
what i love is that you mention his timing... he doesn’t play to any kind of click or backing track. if you watch him, you can see throughout the video where he peeks through his setup to catch the eyes of his band mates to check on time and pacing. they’re just that in tune with each other. it’s just amazing to watch. he’s a phenom. if you asked 100 random professional drummers of all genres today who the greatest living drummer is, at least 90 of them would say danny carey.
His fills are so on point, everything he does he makes it look like it's the easiest thing ever. Yet what he is doing 99.99% of drummers in music today can't dream of doing.

I've watched this track dozens of times, and it never gets old. Drum mastery, at an extraordinarily high level. Btw, your responses to this video are amongst the most honest I've seen. Good job...
Danny Carey is unbelievable but the most impressive thing about this performance was that it was the first time they ever played this song live and it was impeccable. Unreal he's almost 60 in this video and you know where he's playing at by the jersey he's wearing.
Every time I hear this song it's like hearing a time signature(s) from another planet. I think they /he are setting a new standard for excellence and in music.

Welcome. TOOL fans love when folk discover them. They are and have been next level since the 90s but sadly many fans are a bit overzealous and turned off a lot of people who didn't realize they were so special and never gave them a listen.
For most people, watching a drummer do different stuff with each of their lims is spectacular. Being a drummer myself, that's business as usual. But playing different rhythms at the same time, and make it look easy like Danny, it's what's impressive to me.
I am so proud of you Danny Makes my century when TOOL virgins are in a position where they must pay attention. Their views and mindset on what a good band should sound like has just been renewed! LOVE your TOOL!!!
Legit my favorite reaction of this video. As a drummer and a DC fan, I appreciate ya'll not trying to compare him to anyone else out there. Not trying to count his rhythms and beats and whatnot. You heard it for what it was.
Danny ' the octopus' Carey is one of the greatest drummers to have ever lived. Cthulhu once challenged him to a drum duel & lost. Also, as a member of the Tool & Nightwish Army I can say with complete certainty that both armies are just as passionate as each other. Beware though, if you have too many Tool & Nightwish reactions on your channel, that much genius & awesomeness in one place could cause a singularity & destroy the universe. Great reaction as always!
Now that is what you call a master at work. Danny Carey just sets the bar to strataspheric heights just in case anyone had any doubts on who is the best living drummer on the planet. Hey not bad for a 59 year old guy as well.
Yup. This guy is next level for sure. Listen to Pushit, and then listen again. That second solo blew my mind. Found this band in 1992 with Opiate, and was blown away. They just had something that was 'different'.

There are so many time signatures going on, the sync to bob your head will always be different than everyone else's. I been to a concert and saw that often, just fucking amazing is all I can say.
I loved your reaction. That appreciation for talent is in both of your eyes. Danny Carey is one of those experts who are so proficient that they make the incredibly complex look simple. But there were several time signature changes in this song. More than that was the emotion he was able to envoke with these changes. Perfect fills...not overdone or understated. This has to be one of the most amazing drum performances of all time. That said, I just grabbed everything of yours available on iTunes. Thanks for your contribution to music as well!! New sub.
