You should never be self-conscious about showing an interest in the greatest show ever televised. ;) The episode with the wine glass swapping trick is the Season 7 episode "Murder Under Glass". The episode with Donald Pleasence's fantastic performance is the Season 3 episode "Any Old Port in a Storm".
Was Donald Pleasance supposed to be playing an alcoholic in that movie? I watched it (yet again!) recently and I think he was acting drunk during many of the episodes - a tiny little acting tidbit I did not catch onto when I was a child watching the show.
