Great video! At this point I avoid trailers at all costs! Especially if it is a movie I know I will be seeing. I didn't see any trailers for Barbie and had no idea what the plot was so it was fun seeing where they went with it.
Greta Gerwig is awesome but I think she really blew it this time, I hated the messages this movie has but even disregarding the messages I think it manages to be an insult to Barbie herself (Mattel’s character) because they say she is something she isn’t and it feels like Greta made a research about Barbie but then she quit halfway through it because they had some cool easter eggs but there are so many things they did wrong about the Barbie lore that I think it’s even impressive, they didn’t even get her whole name right, so either Greta didn’t know about it or she did but she changed it for whatever reason, which I believe proves that she is not good working with preexisting pop culture characters because in this movie she twisted them just to spread the message she wanted, people don’t realize this movie is incredibly shallow and dumb it’s pretty much the “Don’t Worry, Darling” we had this year (although I’d say even “Don’t Worry, Darling” managed to explore it’s themes is a more clever and innovative way than the Barbie movie did) because they used characters they new we love so people just don’t want to see this
I hope you'll make a second video on the Barbie Movie in a few month or so after having seen it a few time. I'm curious what you will explore watching it again.
Barbie is not this feminist icon people say she is, for starters she wasn’t created to show little girls they could be anything they wanted, most their marketing had Barbie dressed in wedding gown and to make girls excited about getting married and to see Barbie as the ideal woman they should want to be which is not really an upgrade from a babydoll that encourages motherhood, they just changed their strategies. Also people ignore the fact that giving your daughter a scientist Barbie doll won’t get her an inch closer to growing up working in STEM field, and even if it does it will most likely be because she thinks she will look cute in a doctor attire
Absolutely great takeaways- another fantastic production! :)
Thank you so much 🫶😊

Got caught up with the hype and watched all the trailers and the sad thing is I usually never do that 😢
