Not super empowering as they thought it would be. This is supposed to be her freeing herself from everyone, her mother, her entourage, and her abusive boyfriend. i don't think so it's just a horrible tv show literally it has no goal only pleasing male gaze which is even more disgusting also the fact that they could've shown the misery of female celebrities in a better way as a lot of movies/ tv shows did idk i just find it really hard to watch they literally did it to SEXUALISE WOMEN and normalise the rape/abuse culture they be like " IT'S MY BODY" meanwhile using THIS BODY to tolerate rape what a shame .
This show had the worst ending possible. Didn’t make any sense and left a lot of viewers with questions. In reality, it all traces back to bad screenwriting. The entirety of “The Idol” felt as if Sam Levinson was just showcasing his fetishes for an hour. Great review on the worst episode of this (THANKFULLY) short lived show.
The ending makes sense in context of the opening shot of the series. And the opening scene as well. The shot of her in the photo shoot showed us how easily she can manipulate her emotions. The opening scene gets mirrored at the concert. Like hefty well constructed bookends. Massive Eyes Wide Shut vibes. It’ll be a cult classic soon. And there’s talks of a season 2.
I’m almost convinced this was some sort of money laundering plot or a producers type scenario. This show was pretty exclusively filmed in the weeknds house and that concert scene was filmed at his concert. It’s filled with mostly their friends too. But they were still so over budget? Where the fuck did it go? Certainly not on location wigs and wardrobe.
As weird as the showcase scene was, the biggest question I had during it was "are none of these music industry folks gonna acknowledge MIKE DEAN is here?!"

I actually liked the show. The message is a good one. I wish the acting was better. Ok I want to clear things out to everybody that ,now that the series is over and the door is open to critics about Jennie as usual that Johnny Depp first movie was in Nightmare on Elm Street and he was killed by Freddie within 1 hour in the movie (before haters jump on me I'm not comparing the two Johnny Deep having an amazing career). so this is Jennie's very first appearance in a series/movie so what did you expect. If they give her too much screen time it would have shadowed Lily performance like it or not. That's the impact Jennie has and they know it. I'm happy for her. Did I wish to see her more? Of course but it is what it is. The series was a mess from the start and I think all actors or most of them were badly used thanks to Weeknd/Levinson duo.
