- Today we take a look at GB Eye Ltd, Enterprise 36 - Unit 2 Enterprise Way, Barnsley S75 3DZ.
This large brand new unit had an unfamiliar name so I decided to take a closer look.
We speak to a member of staff who ask what we are doing and then another comes out who is a viewer.
If you see a man outside with a drone and need to check something on your roof, just ask them!

Exactly, I imagine that they are good people to work for too. He asked a few obvious questions which anyone would do and then turned the experience into a positive one.

This is how it's done. Utmost respect. Thought you needed permission to fly over. Heard out your explanation, made the decision that there's nothing he can do why stress, utilised your time to his advantage by getting you to passively check their roof. Opportunistic decisions like that save companies time, hassle and money to levels beyond belief. They handled it perfectly.

No doubt both came away with a positive experience and most likely will purchase their own drone for roof/gutter inspections saving the cost of contract inspections. The company I worked at as chief engineer for 1 of the sites bought one after I took my drone over our site to check all the other 10 sites. They first asked me to visit them all from Devon to Cumbria until I informed them they could purchase them cheaper than myself traveling to each site. I started getting calls from other site engineers asking for information so maybe they got one for each site. Theres far more than roof/gutters you can inspect especially on sites with things like air handling units, silos and cooling towers.
4:30 Best response to being informed that it's OK to fly over. He understood that what he said wasn't backed up by anything except what he thought was true but understood that someone flying a drone probably would know everything and so just asked to have the drains looked at. No ego and ready to take up an opportunity.
Great sales pitch for the company rather than the stuck up self believing authorities staff talking gumff and trying to tell you what to do. Well done everyone.
PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE THIS IS HOW TO BE POLITE AND PROMOTE YOUR COMPANY IN A POSITIVE LIGHT
These are the kind of people you want managing your company. They think outside the box, not everything has to start of negative and not everything is a crime until proven otherwise.
They were suspicious of your presence, which is fair enough. Once you explained what you were doing they were initially apprehensive but then quickly realised that you were of no threat to the business, production, workers, or anything else.
Then quickly thinking on their feet realised that they could probably save some money & have you do them a few favours whilst you had the drone up.
On top of all of that they were really polite & rational people. No wonder they’re in charge of things at this place, the owners have clearly chosen some great people to run things.
What a great guy I’m sure he’d even buy you a beer for doing him a favour.
Both had their heads screwed on. A free gutter inspection, a free gift keyring and free publicity. I wonder how many website hits they have had since this and how much sales increase they have had.
I love how you listen to your supporters and are more upfront and open about what you do and why you do it like we asked.

I always wondered why a business wouldn't use this opportunity to their benefit! I've seen plenty of videos with clogged gutters, and stuff growing, and rust that will ruin roofs! And not look at this as a free inspection! Good for these guys! Great video!👍👍
companies would pay good money if this service was offered when you consider the cost of access equipment etc . could be a wee money maker for the lad

The unit was last of four recently completed so estate agents have detailed brochures for the unit still online. Interesting to see embankments hard to discern on aerial views and reclaimed from collieries and rail lines. Behind the retaining wall and trees is Carrs Lane along the field, narrow country lane on google.
Checked OS maps, the embankment is the historic edge of a brickworks excavation beside the Wharncliffe Silkstone Colliery dating to the late 1800s. The Carrs Lane curves beyond the trees makes it easy to locate the location on older maps.

Initially the first guy seemed a bit reluctant but once you set his mind at peace that you weren’t a threat and could be good for business and that you could fly over legally then his whole attitude became one of cooperation and Jed being so willing and frank with information just gave a really positive view of GB Eye & Abysee as a company. 10/10 to them as once corrected regarding the misunderstanding about legally being allowed to fly they were brilliant.

More companies should embrace a free audit and act like these guys who could see the benefit to themselves. Usually when companies see a man with a camera they suspect skulduggery and are aggressive and sceptical towards the intent.

I have been waiting for so long, for someone to not just have a bit of common sense, but think on their feet and realise the use of a drone could have positive effects and engaging with the 'pilot' doesn’t just result in good pr but practical cost saving measures, nice photo of the premises and a free check of guttering, fence lines etc
