Benchmade Axis Lock vs Ganzo Axis Lock Endurance test with Batoning

  • Just what the title says. This is unscientific, and should never be attempted. A subscriber asked me... hey did you ever try Batoning with a Benchmade Axis Lock? This was asked when the Ganzo G7392 CF folded in my review while batoning. This video answers the question- do both of them fold up when they're used in a way they were not designed? Again. Don't attempt this. Or whatever.

    Thank you. That was very interesting to see. I can never justify spending $100 over a well made $20 knife, I just can't help it. I have held benchmades before and Ganzo. Better steel and better craftsmanship do not do it for me. In the end a well constructed low priced knife is as useful as a $200 knife.

      +Angel Cortez that's a good point. Other than sharpening a bit more often, that's sort of the big thing.

      +Advanced Knife Bro That's true. Even though the tactical bunch are always OCD about their blade being sharp so after one use they sharpen it again, kinda weird ;)

  • @9ZweihandeR9
    @9ZweihandeR9 8 лет назад +3

    If you file down the tang slightly so the lock engages more solidly the knife won't fold nearly so often if ever, another thing that helps is taking a rough diamond stone to the end of the tang to give it more friction. I have 3 Ganzo knives that folded just as often as yours do, but after modifying them, I have batoned much tougher wood than that with them.

    Apparently the bugout axis lock is titanium instead of steel. Along with a couple other pieces that are normally steel. Could be why the knife is priced higher then what most people want it to be.

    BRAVO!!!!!!!!’
    OK - Here is what is AWESOME about your videos:
    Stupid or not - lame or not - useless or not - shit no one would ever do with these knives or not - You are
    NOT wasting anybody’s time!!!
    You speak and move quickly!
    I have yet to hear any “dramatic pauses” which are really just people figuring out what they’re going to talk about next cause they can’t remember whether or not they already talked about it. Plus when they started they had no idea what they were GOING to talk about.
    You don’t deliver “clever” quips to passers by or say a few words to non existent friends who may or may not be watching your video.
    You DON’T loudly smack your wet lips between sentences which nobody realizes is picked up clear as day with the advanced sound on today’s video cameras.
    You DON’T take long pauses while you casually cough up a lung or two - certain that your viewers feel closer to you having been privy to such a personal bodily function.
    (I’m just waiting for the day that some moron is SO taken by himself that he actually pauses to fart loud enough to wake the neighbors and then continue as if he’s the coolest thing since sliced bread.
    You take care of your business. Share the things you want to share about whatever you’re working with for those 10 minutes and you MOVE ON!
    Add to that - that along the way you demonstrate and prove some very valuable pieces of information -
    and what else is there to say except
    BRAVO and THANK YOU!!!
    Carry on sir

    Great stuff. All the book worms who have not been in the bush, will contend folders are not made for this or for that. Well, if a folder is all you have, and your ass in on the line, it better work successfully or you are done for. So it is good to know that these folders will baton if need be, specially if that is the only knife you have. I like the fact that your folders, just like mine, are not display case queens. a knife is a tool, sometimes you have to use a tool that is not quite right because that is all you have, and if it breaks so be it. That is why I like Ganzos. If I break them, I just go get another. I can't afford the Benchmades, so I'll never break one.

    • @ComUnSas
      @ComUnSas 8 лет назад

      If your ass is in the line you'd take that two inch diameter branch and smack it on a rock. If a neatly split two inch diameter branch is essential to your survival you'd disengage the lock first and just baton with the blade.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 лет назад

      +mikedifeo whatever works man. Both knives held up well. Yeah... I don't treat my stuff like shelf or safe queens. I like using them, like they were or weren't intended.

      If you have one folding knife in an emergency and you decide to use it to baton then you're well on the way to get naturally selected for elimination.
      There are several ways to achieve the same result with far less energy, risk and time. I don't know how batoning became a must have in the bushcraft world, it has uses of course but it's not nearly as important as some people make it out to be.

    Good and amusing video! But you might want to wear protective gloves like in the cold steel videos.

    As an advanced knife bro, is it your studied opinion that either the Benchmade or the Ganzo would be appropriate for skinning rattlesnakes? i.e. batoning reptiles?

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 лет назад

      Sidewinders? Diamondbacks? Or those ones you get at the gas stations for your kids.

      +Advanced Knife Bro How did you know I got my kids at a gas station? I'm talking about the Godzilla Pit Vipers from near the Gulf of Mexico, in Florida. You think the AXIS lock would hold, if I wanted to baton one of those beasts?

      ***** Yeah, I know. They stole it. So it's a Benchmade Axis Lock vs. Benchmade Axis Lock made with cheap materials by workers with no rights to safety or adequate pay.

    This is great that you tested these knives. But, that's not how you test a locking mechanism's strength or durability. You'd essentially have to ruin them to actually test their true capabilities.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 лет назад

      +NotAnUndercoverCop ok so... whacking the knife on the back isn't a good test to see how often the lock disengages. Got it. Gotta love the internet.

    BTW, just to let you know...you were making me pretty nervous watching you baton those folders. You should really throw on a pair of leather gloves next time just in case the lock fails as you blast through a piece of wood so the blade doesn't snap shut on your fingers with no protection.

      Listen Safety Officer Dan, I'm a tactical beefcake...I think I know what I am talking about. Seatbelts are death traps, not restraints. Apples are bongs, not fruit. And gloves... there are things about gloves you dont want to know Dan Jr. NEVER. wear. gloves.

    I still like ganzo knives and i Iike benchmade knives too...ganzo got good quality its just that it's brand name and reputation got ruined because of imitating other knife designs,despite of the brand's image and reputation got ugly I still like it because it's cheap yet its a tough piece and good for edc
