    This kind of review is much more useful than watching a couple of dudes in a studio tell how wonderful their new expensive knife is. Knives are tools and need to be tested as such. Great work.

      Thank you! Glad you liked it. I like to see knife tests especially when they can be done. Normally a folder should not be used for such things. but i thought: I am curious...i bet others are too

      The patent just expired on it that’s why you didn’t see the axis lock before outside if benchmade

    440c has always been a good steel until its demonization started in the late 90's by all the HC/super steel bush wackos. I have had great luck with Ganzo and Gearbest... rock solid. Nice job!

      I dont like the fact that the design is copied from LionSteel and that the bolt unscrews itself. Apart from that its a great low budget tank of a folder.

      Thank you. I always try to show everything that I would like to see when it come to reviews of tools and when time permits it I like to just go thru the pace one more time. I have a few more videos about this knife should you be interested

    Actually I think 440c if properly heat treated is a good steel. Not super rust resistant .. but really I don't think the new steels are worth $150 more. I think the steel snobs are wrong about the older steel being cheap.

    You must do a hard use test of the g722 and 723 and share your commentary on how they compare with the g720., esp with respect to tip durability, lock strength, bushcraft vs overall capabilities and ease of handling.
    That'd make for a great comparison video !

    I had my first Ganzo in the mail a few days ago, a 729, which is basically a Paramilitary clone. However I didn't like the tip, too flimsy. Other than that it's pretty good, looks quality for the price. I also ordered a 742 which will most likely not have the tip issue, looking at the blade shape. Overall pretty impressed with the Ganzos. Nice review by the way, it chilled me out for some reason lol.

    Nice video! I recently bought a Ganzo G7211 auto in 440C for $26 delivered from China. I am super impressed with Ganzo knives. Sharper than my Buck 110 &112. IMO this knife is worth 2-3 times what I paid. Very high quality and dirt cheap. Thanks for the video!

      +Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors I ordered a g710 about 1.5 months ago...I am also still waiting...after that, I plan on getting a g704 and maybe the rat1 lookalike you mentioned...I really like the rat 1..i wonder if this one will be better. I hope your knife gets to you really fast...I know how it feels to wait on a blade

    Great great great knife. I have this in black color. This is the best quality knife in that price range. It can easily beat a150 dollar knife in torture test. Best value for money. Ganzo is giving big expensive knives the run for their money. You can't go wrong with this one man. Every knife lover should have this in their collection. It screams quality.
    Thanks for the detailed review about your experience with this knife.

      The G720 is by far the thoughest of the Ganzo folders I own. But it is not the lightest of them. However as a working knife...for all sorts of jobs...a great choice. very stable, rugged and for a more than decent price

    SpartanJohns, thanks for the excellent and comprehensive test/review of this Ganzo G720! I'm considering it, as I've not owned a Ganzo yet, but was wondering if you've tested the Artisan Cutlery Proponent or Cold Steel AD15 LITE (a Beast), and if the Ganzo compares to them, in terms of ruggedness and overall build quality. Of course, I realize the other 2 are approximately 3x the price of the Ganzo, but just curious.

    • @SpartanJohns
      @SpartanJohns  2 года назад

      I have not tested the AD15lite. I have tested recently a cold steel AD10. In my experience you can't really compare them. I have tested/abused the G720 because of it low price. I can't really afford to abuse/break much more expensive knives just for the heck of it. I would love to..but my budget would not allow it.
      You can get this model for a decent price. I got 2. This one and another one like it. I have abused this one and tested the other one(but not nearly as hard as this one) just to see if they can compare. It is a good model for testing/abuse and working with it...

    For someone that needs a high value work horse. It seems you have found a real winner. I might get one just to have it and play with it. I had a Ganzo kind of like it, but was unsure of the lock so I gave it away. After watching your series of videos on this knife, I feel a whole lot safer.. Great hearing from you Denis.

      +saradreaming Thank you Sara...I gave this one to a friend yesterday so he can also test it out a bit. After I get it back it will be a sturdy backup for hunting probably..I was rather surprised by it. I heard of models that are not so well made but I cannot complain about this one

    Very thorough and honest review! I am new to this Ganzo excitement and ordered three of them last weekend. I'm sure at some point I'll get around to ordering the 720 soon. But I wanted to ask you, are you serious in thinking that the axis lock is stronger than a frame lockup?

    • @KENTUCKYUSA1
      @KENTUCKYUSA1 7 лет назад +2

      I believe the 723 frame lock must be intrinsically stronger . But I don't baton folders .

  • @peterandersson4295
    @peterandersson4295 4 года назад

    Have had the G720 now a few months. At first I didn't like it. I think I commented on that as well in a reply to this, or another of your vids regarding this knife. It felt way too big and clumsy. But since that, I have used it quite a bit, and, although being quite hefty, it really has it's place. It sits very comfortably in the hand, and thanks to the wide blade, it has a large "belly" near the tip of the blade, which I find very suitable to foodprep such as chopping fruit amongst other things. Also this knife really proved it's worth when I was doing pre-work on the fencepoles prior to oiling. It was very nice for cutting away moss that has grown on the wood.
    So I really have to re-evaluate this knife and have to agree with you, it IS a very nice knife. It is nice that one can change, and it really points out that although, being just a knife, the slight details make them very different.
    Was thinking of putting a 15dps bevel with a 20dps microbevel, but, since it is a sturdy knife, it will probably see some heavy use. So changed my mind and put an 18dps with 22.5dps microbevel instead, wich I think will hold up pretty good.
    Also I quit putting mirror polished edges on. I want the toothy edge so it is able to bite through fruit skin. So now the grit-progression is 120-240-400. Still shaving but with a real nice bite to it :)

    • @SpartanJohns
      @SpartanJohns  4 года назад

      I am glad you started to like it. It is a hefty knife for sure. I started carrying smaller knives like the Delica and the Benchmade Bugout. But when I have some rough jobs I still like to carry this one. I put a 20dps edge angle on it and it works well for me. Nowadays the blade has a few micro chips in it but i do not mind.
      Making this one a slicer is...well up to the user. I prefer my slicers to have a thin blade. However I have modified the G710 to be a slicer although it has a thick blade. A convex angle works for it. I personally like the heat treatment on the 440C from ganzo. So far it never let me down.
      Mine also has some forward/backward bladeplay from all the abuse(batoning) but still works just fine.
      I tried "toothy edges' a few times. On my ZT0350 i left a toothy edge at a 30 dps edge angle. It held a cutting edge very long and i used it for all sorts of dirt jobs. Like with everything in life: there is a place/time/task for everything
      Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
      Much appreciated

  • @cbpuzzle
    @cbpuzzle 3 года назад

    I was thinking about getting one of these, but after seeing how the lock bar has deformed and lets the blade move around, I'm gonna spend a little more. Unfortunately, anything in the under $50 range is all liner or axis lock and they'll all have the same issue under heavy camping use. Cold Steel seems to have the right idea with that triad lock that gets tighter the more it wears.

    very nice Video! I really like your reviews and Ganzo Knives are really cool because if the price and the Axislock. I aslo like the pockteclip on these Modell. But I like the whole shape of the g710 and the g704 more. But this knife is nocht that bad.

      Hi Benjamin,
      Das G720 hat nur 1 nachteil meiner meinung nach: Der Schneidewinkel mit den das Messer kommt ist einfach zu gross und es zu modifizieren dauert ganz schoen viel wenn man keine power tools hat. Allerdings, einmal modifiziert ist es ganz leicht die Klinge scharf zu erhalten und falls einer damit holz spalten muss...geht das ganz gut...
      Mit mein SR1A wuerde ich diese Tests nicht machen....
      LG und ein Froehliches neues Jahr

    I very much appreciate your kind of hard use proof testing . I'd love to see you test the Ganzo G723 or 722 frame lock type. I have the 723 and the I believe the lock might outperform the axis type on the 720 and most other Ganzo's.

    Great review as well as testing of the G720 in your other video (Subscribed). I need to put a finer edge on my G720 as well, your edge looks well done. I also recommend the G722, mine came with a better edge and has a very well done frame lock. The blade is slightly more hollow ground than the G720 allowing for a finer edge.

    • @SpartanJohns
      @SpartanJohns  8 лет назад

      +Pietro B The main reason I like the G720 is the handle. Second reason is the lock. The G722 looks very good. And I did hear commentary on the grind. The only drawbacks are the handle which will be thinner and not simetrical and the locking mechanism. I can imagine it as a nice sturdy edc knife but i cannot imagine doing the same things with a frame lock as i did with the axis lock

  • @Player_Review
    @Player_Review 8 лет назад

    Make sure you do the blue loctite. I do that with every creeping pivot and no problems so far. Just pull out the pivot, put some on the threads and then put the pivot back in. It dries in about 5 minutes time and no risk of it leaking/dripping where you don't want it. Around $5 for a tube of blue loctite.

    • @SpartanJohns
      @SpartanJohns  8 лет назад

      +Jeremy Madsen loctite is hard to get around these parts of the world. we don't use it as much. Since I have reviewed the knife I kept it as a dirt knife and it has seen its fair share of abuse. I take it inside once in a while and clean/sharpen it...no problems with the pivot unless I baton the knife or chop with it

    • @SpartanJohns
      @SpartanJohns  9 лет назад

      +mikedifeo I think that the axis lock can take way more abuse than the liner lock... Good review. Because of this I have decided not to buy the knife because the walk-around showed me that the glass breaker/clip retention system is just not what I am looking for in a knife. Aside from this, the blade shape and handle shape look great.

      the glass breaker is not a big issue...it can be filed down. however if you don't like the deep carry and style of retention it might not be for you

    I ordered one and it arrived a few hours ago. What a blade! One thing though, the blade seems to be too tight against the liner on one side even though the blade is perfectly centered. I put some oil on it and I am in the process of working it in. Do you think I should loosen the pivot screw some? Thanks again for the review. By the way your review appears on gearbest.com.

    • @SpartanJohns
      @SpartanJohns  8 лет назад +1

      +Douglas Barrow I think you should work with it a bit and see how you prefer to have it...I keep mine tight, so I have no bladeplay.
      I never put oil on it or something else...I just play with the tension of the pivot. Works for me
      have you modified the edge angle..? it is not the easiest thing to do without powertools...but it is definitely worth it.
      I got this knife from gearbest.com. they asked me if they could use the video. I see no reason why they should not use it...I think it is a great knife no matter if you buy it from them or another place...
      i am glad you are happy with yours so far.
      if you happen to work with it and use it a bit more rough...pleas let me know how it went...also if you happen to notice something I did not mention...i would be grateful for any imput

    • @dbkfrogkaty1
      @dbkfrogkaty1 8 лет назад

      +SpartanJohns I have not messed with the pivot yet. I did with my G727M but I didn't like the blade play. Right now I'm just flicking it. I take it with me when I drive to work and just keep flicking it open and closed. It has gotten better but I think I will adjust the pivot some and see how that helps. I have not cut much with it yet but I will be getting a new sharpening stone kit soon. I'm not too rough on my knives but I can see this one can take some serious abuse! The pocket clip is kind of odd though. Mine has become a little loose and I don't have a proper tool to tighten it up. Needle nose pliers didn't work too well. Guess I need a Leatherman.
      I'm glad to hear gearbest.com asked to use your video. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of it. One of the better videos of this particular knife on the net IMHO.

    Ich hoffte, dass Dein Review genau das zeigen würde: das Ganzo kann ganz schön was einstecken! Ich hatte zwei verschiedene 704er und war von beiden absolut überzeugt.

    Nice vid. Thanks for sharing.
    For the pivot: try using loctite222. Apply gently with a cotton tip. Just a tiny bit. You always can adjust the pivot with this. It is not so tight you haveto heaten it to unloose it.

      I still use most of my more expensive knives mainly for edc. but when I go somewhere and want to just cut, maybe not the cleanest of materials, i will have a ganzo. The HT is ok and they can take abuse if need be. And for the price....as you said: Awesome!

    Moin Denis :-)
    Sehr gute Vorstellung.
    Das G720 scheint ein wirklich toughes Messer zu sein....gemessen an dem Preis unglaublich gut verarbeitet.
    Ganzo hat es wirklich eindrucksvoll geschafft den Axislock so zu kopieren,das er sehr gut arbeitet...ich kenne das ja auch vom G710 & G704.
    Der Axislock ist ein wirklich stabiler Verschluss.....damit kann man dann auch mal batonen.
    Die Ganzo's haben oft einen stumpfen Winkel...wenn man jenen anpasst,so wie du es ja auch mit deinem G720 gemacht hast,
    dann bekommt man eine taugliche Klinge.
    Viel Freude weiterhin mit dem Messer.
    Ciao

      das axis lock bei dieses messer ist echt cool gemacht. gefaellt mir sehr.
      habe es einen freund gegeben und er hat auch 3 wochen damit gespielt und es sehr gemocht...
      ich mag auch wie es die schneide haellt. wirklich beeindruckend. aber es dauerte ziemlich lange das zu moifizieren...jedoch war es das wert.

    hi, thanks for the review and a great video.
    i'd like to ask you if the screws that keep the blade stable get loose on yours, cause mine keep geting loose all the time. i screw them, its tight in the beggining and then gradually becomes loose again.

    • @tnjrcfl1
      @tnjrcfl1 8 лет назад

      take a little time, take the screw out and put a small dot of blue loctite on, then adjust and let it set overnight. no more adjustment bullshit. .

    • @epsavit1
      @epsavit1 8 лет назад

      the thing is i want to be able to take it apart and put it back togehter easily.
      since horizontal vibrations cause screw loosening relying on a screw alone to keep the blade in place has no logic. the company ought to use lock washer or just use another locking mechanism for stabilizing the blade. i'll replace the ones i used with nord-lock wedge lock washers just to make sure it'll never come loose again.

    • @SpartanJohns
      @SpartanJohns  2 года назад

      I have a few tests of the G720 and this knife too I still have. This one for a different reason. Gifting it away at this point would be irresponsible. After all the abuse it has a ton of forward/backward bladeplay. I actually tried to break it! Now...i can still use it...and for me it would be not such a great issue...however...lending/giving it to someone else....I fear it might not be that safe anymore.
      This knife was when I started to think that the best locking mechanism when it comes to abuse is the axis lock

    • @SpartanJohns

      +Forestwalker111 the axis lock and the thickness of the handle are the two main reasons(disregarding the price) why I really like this knife.

    • @SpartanJohns
      @SpartanJohns  8 лет назад

      +Motive X7 not 100% necessary...but the edge angle with which it comes is very steep...it can cut stuff but if you want to process wood or cut hard plastic or cardboard it will put up a lot of resistance, making it less fun to work with

    Hey - loved the information in this video though truth be told it took me starting it and stopping it 4 times to get all the way through it.
    Not sure what it is about people having the ability to film themselves but it seems that the mere act of looking at and speaking into a camera lens knowing that the instant they are done they will get to see and watch themselves somehow gives people an almost superhuman belief that in the blink of an eye they have as if by magic become:
    “The Most Interesting Man/Woman In The World”.
    And listen - I am ALL ABOUT people feeling good about themselves and anything that helps promotes that feeling. We could all use a but of that.
    The thing is - as wonderful as it feels to feel good about ourselves - it is imperative that we don’t make the mistake of thinking that just because WE find ourselves fascinating - I mean why wouldn’t we - that does not necessarily mean that anyone ELSE is going to find us as fascinating as we do.
    And while people absolutely like to like the people they are learning from - that doesn’t change the fact that people have other things in their lives that need to be tended to.
    I guess my point is:
    By all means feel good about yourself - feel “interesting” - feel
    “Entertaining” - have a little fun - but maybe do a little planning ahead of time so that you can relay your knowledge a little Faster.

      You took the time to write a long comment...so here is my reply:
      So what you are trying to say is that while you do appreciate the information i should, by all means, take an hour to sit down and make a script, try to keep things as short and full of interesting stuff, in order to save you some time... because while you might be interested in the knife...you are not really interested in me, my personality, my face or what i do in my life. and as a matter of fact i don't seem to be as interesting as i might think I am.
      Well....2 point on that
      1st point: I do not get paid to make these videos. I make them because I think they might help someone in making a decision about what knife to buy or not. so putting more effort into them does not seem to make much sense. does it?
      2nd point: English is not my first language and I sometimes stutter. I don't think that I (or my life) am even remotely interesting. If I can get thru a video without stuttering too much, messing up words and telling all the ideas in my head, I am satisfied. I delete a lot of comments from my channel because i get a lot of hate...maybe it's me, maybe people don't have anything better to do. I don't know nor care. Some(probably very few) seem to enjoy my videos..and for those people(and because I like to play with knives) I make these videos.
      Like i said..i don't get paid...but if you would be willing to sponsor my videos I would be ready to take your suggestions.
      BR,
      Denis

    After watching your G720 videos i ordered that knife a few weeks ago and yesterday it finally arrived from China. :D
    Thats one hefty knife! haha The factory edge is ridiculous though... mine has an edge angle like a splitting hammer and barely cuts anything. That will need some modification. And the lock is really tough. Other than that it is really wel made considering the price tag!

      +321berber It took me about 3 hours to modify the edge angle to where it i now...but it was worth the effort...like you said....a bit heavy but I like the weight... :)
      Glad you like yours

    Hi Denis
    Ich schau deine Videos wirklich gerne, aber leider verstehe ich kein Englisch. Kannst du mir bitte kurz dein Fazit zu dem Messer auf Deutsch schreiben. Wollte mir auch eins gesorgen aber ich wußte nicht so genau ob man das Teil auch richtig rannehmen kann.
    vielen Dank
    Nobbi

      +Norbert xxl schau dir mal mein Video das ich in die Beschreibung verlinked habe...
      Da siehst du schon.
      Das einzige was unbequem ist, das es mit ein grossen schneidewinkel kommt und das zu modifizieren kann schon ein bischen zeit in anspruch nehmen...
      Am sonsten kann ich es nur empfehlen...Denis

    in my opinion, this is the best ganzo knife.

      I think that this is the thoughest Ganzo knife. At the moment I am carrying several Ganzos and switching them out. I enjoy having one or two with me should i need to cut something really gritty, get rid of old trash aso...
      I still have the G720, with the bladeplay and all..and I still use it around the cabin

    I wonder if the Firebird version is exactly the same of have they ruined something...

      I received it few days ago. I'm impressed, looks very sturdy, no blade play, lock is rock solid, liners are skeletonized. Quite sharp. Washers are one bronze and the other teflon.
      For the price I can not ask better fit and finish.

      @@BladeWalker77 Good to hear, I was wondering about the lock, is it as deep seated as before?

    • @BladeWalker77
      @BladeWalker77 3 года назад

      @@johnsun3854 I don't have the old version, so I don't know, in mine the lock engage quite deeply.
      It is a good folder for outdoor, the only downgrade is the weight in my opinion.

    Enjoyed the review and demo. Looks like a good knife for the money. It's too big for my needs as a EDC knife however.

      +Douglas Barrow I can see your point...I like big heavy folders...they always give me the feeling of reliability.

      +SpartanJohns After reviewing your video again and seeing a few more reviews, I've changed my mind. There is something about that big blade that just intoxicates me. I'll be getting one. I have two other Ganzo knives (G704, G727) and they're just great.

      Thank you! Glad you liked it. The G720 was one of those "WOW" knives for me...price/performance is absolutely amazing, imho.

    It's amazing how many people think that folding knives can't be used for bushcrafting or for survival purposes.

    • @SpartanJohns
      @SpartanJohns  8 лет назад

      +redsorgum If the handle is comfortable you can use any folder for bushcrafting purposes. And if you have a lock that can take batoning without damage..you can even do some heavier tasks. IMO the most important thing with folders is the edge angle. If it is too big it will be uncomfortable to work with.

      True, the best knife there is, is the one you actually use.

    I've had this knife for years now had to work on edge an clean up lock. But its a great knife under $20 I really can't understand how people pay $150 or more for a benchmade I have this a harnds in 14c28n that's amazing that was $30 or my $60 coldsteel broken skull all of them together are still less then 1 benchmade bugout that has weak scales.
    I just don't understand the mark up an people that get mad because you bring up other knives are cheaper an in my opinion better.
