Well apparently he likes solving things the hard way better, all he needed to do was to say, no comments and ask the reporters to leave, now he have a court order to appear and assault charges to deal with LOL.
These are called "note-lots" ... they buy a car from an auction or such, finance your purchase "in house" (your-job-is-your-credit), and they expect you to default. Miss a payment (paid usually weekly) and the car is IMMEDIATELY repo'd. Each car is expected to be repo'd a minimum of five times. The down payment is actually what they paid for the car, everything else is just gravy. "If you're paying cash, you get trash" ... that's the note-lot saying. I had a late relative that had these kinds of lots, and they make a lot of money, but are absolutely a scam and prey on the uninformed.

I repaired it by changing the blown head gasket, drove it for years then traded it in for a new car. All my following used car purchases were from private parties and although you still have to be careful.

One of the things I love about my wife is the way she handles these types. She's the nicest person but she doesn't like to haggle. She went into a used dealership ready to pay cash (didn't tell them that, never tell them you're paying cash btw) and found a Honda Odyssey that was a low mileage lease vehicle..great condition. Asked the sales guy what their best price was for it but he kept asking what she wanted to pay...she hates that. So finally, she just told him an amount that was $5k less than they had on it. Took the guy off guard and he "had to ask his manager". Came back with "ok, we can do that...the shipping..." She cut him off as he was trying to add on the usual extra charges and said "and that's out-the-door"...lol He "talks to the manager again" and agrees before asking "what kind of financing she was interested in". To which she finally told him "Oh no, I'm paying cash." Key sales guy watching his commision dry up.... She's a sweetheart while also being a badass.

Even when I went as a 20 year old to a used car lot the salesman let me test drive the car by myself. He didn't even go with me. He made a copy of my DL, handed me the keys and told me to take it for a spin. Walk away if a dealer asks you to put money down before you can go for a test drive.

This exact situation happened to me when I was 18 years old. I’m now 46 . Never got my 1000 dollars back. The car was selling for 8 thousand and the final price when I was about to sign the contract was like 24 thousand. I didn’t sign and the used dealer never gave me back my money 1000.
Unfortunately, even in todays day and age. Dealerships, garages, contractors, etc will try and take advantage of woman. I had a client (single woman) who was gauged out of 600 dollars for pest control, they placed some poison around her house and a couple traps, they were there for less than an hour, less than 25 dollars worth of 'pest control product'.
She needs to sue them for freud and theft, she payed them cash and she's getting a check in return, not even close to enough compensation for the intimidation and prolonged stress she endured.

When you are shopping for a used car, and you just need (1) something reliable and (2) something inexpensive, and you don't really care about how fancy it is and you don't know a whole lot about cars, here is what you should do - choose the one with the lowest mileage-dollar product. For each car you look at, multiply its mileage to its cost. You want low numbers on both, so the one with the lowest product, is the best deal on that lot (provided it starts). That's was my method for several purchases, and it always worked like a charm.

Never go alone to buy a car -- take several friends/family members who could help u purchase a car - then take it to an honest mechanic at a bodyshop - or AAA - so they could check out the vehicle BEFORE u purchase it. On the contract, say - subject to car inspection. NEVER go alone to buy a vehicle. If u buy a used vehicle - u should have the owner give u a written warranty - even if it's for 6 months. Once u drive away - it's yours and u don't want a LEMON.
Never sign anything, never put money down, if they don't let you take it to an independent shop for a pre-purchase inspection then don't bother. They ROBBED that lady.
