I was body surfing in the pacific ocean around 1982. A wave slammed my body to the ocean floor like i was a rag doll. I remember the wave holding me down and my body scraping the ocean floor...my face scraping on shells. I lost sight of up and couldn't see the sun...i swam up as i could and it took forever to get to the top as i gasped for air. The ocean nearly took my life that day...God had other plans. Im thankful to be alive.

I wasn’t surfing, but when I was a child in Mexico I was standing on the beach in the water and I had my back facing the water and I was at this particular beach that was known for dangerous waters/monster waves and some massive wave came up from behind me and everything went black and all I remember is waking up on the sand. Another wave ended up throwing me back on the beach. The Heavenly Father definitely saved my life that day and continued to do so through out my life.

To be honest no, this guy hit the water and it was worst case scenario getting the wind knocked out then getting pushed deep probably 6-10 feet underwater with your board tombstoning right below the surface so pulling the cord on the inflatable vest is a life saver. How could he have swam back up to the surface after getting completely winded and then imagine how turbulent the water is after that wave smashed.

If you had the ability to go back out for several hours just for the thrill of it, you certainly exaggerated the nature of the impact - 80 mph into a brick wall, the kind of impact that would kill a man. As somebody who has fallen down a mountain, I can tell you that a serious accident leaves a person wanting to call it a day. While I’m glad that this video preaches the significance of training, your story is an exaggeration, a distraction from actual disasters suffered by people whose accidents actually or very nearly equate to (or exceed) the brutality of 80 mph impact into a brick wall, whereafter even basic mobility is a serious challenge if not impossible.

The primal rush of being deep in the curl, water surrounding you on all sides. The energy of a typhoon roaring all around you. You feel the different textures of the water shifting under your board. Trying to rip it out from under you. And IF, you do everything just right. There's a slim possibility you'll shoot out the wave and begin the '"ride". How long that ride lasts, is determined by the unfathomable complexity of it all. Can't imagine something more intense.

I thought I was a pretty good body surfer until I grabbed, or got grabbed, by a wave when I visited Hawaii. I was used to the waves in Florida. I was near Diamond Head when I swam out a little ways to catch a wave. I saw a pretty big swell coming towards me and started swimming to catch it.Before I knew it the monster had broken and slammed me under it. I didn't realize how much water was in the wave! All this happened to me in '69 while I was on R&R from Vietnam. I knew I was out of my league real quick so I got out of the water. That's been over 50 years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday.
