My high school was named after a Native American tribe, and we were "the Indians." We all - Native Americans families included - were so proud of the name.
I grew up in a town in Oklahoma named for the local tribe and even the high school was named after them. Native American town names are numerous there and people are proud to live there no matter their background.
Mine too! I remember being really proud of our team and how strong they looked with the colors, our chants...it was awesome!
I also went to a high school with the Indian theme, did you sit behind me in math class :)

I'm not Native American, but I do have a lot of respect for them. I hope they bring back the Redskins. Their logo looked awesome, the name had a lot of power behind that logo, and with the "Commanders" for the new name ... just sounds like a little bit of "colonization" of taking over the history and name of the Native American community. Bring back the Redskins!

At first I was a strong supporter of the Redskins name but as time went on I began to flip flop more and more. That is because I got the impression The Natives were hurt or insulted. But seeing this video gives me the education and understanding that I need to make a firm decision to endorse the Redskins name. Thanks.

@clayscloset2618 Not sure what you're trying to say. I was talking about the native Americans, in reference of their name for the football team. I remember native Americans plenty, but there's nothing as prevalent as the football team logo. Hope this clears that up for you.

If the franchise decides not to bring back the name, the league should expect an expansion franchise soon outside of DC like Virginia or Oklahoma
Can you explain how that would work and how they would be able to get an expansion team in such close proximity. So you’re thinking that the commanders ownership would just allow another team to pop up within 20 or 30 miles? And that the league would also be in favor of that? And that the league would Target Oklahoma City or Tulsa for a pro team when the population of the state is so small? Just trying to help you out here you might want to read up on how expansion works, some rich person can’t just come in and say they’re starting a team. And this point do you really think the league would let that name come back in to play, if you think that you’re really out of touch with the modern world and the views of most people, not just the far right who is clueless and not in favor of inclusion and differences. It’s ironic because so many bigots don’t think the name should’ve been changed but that’s because they’re upset that horrible statues of the confederacy were taken down in school names are changed

My Highschool mascot was a Chieftain. Our cross-town rivals were the Warriors. Both were changed a few years ago and I never understood why. We took pride and still do in those monikers. My high school named the Red Raiders have been fighting to save their name for a number of years. They were named to honor the Catawba Indian. So far, the town and community have won this battle. And we'll be fighting to maintain it, too. I'm not a Redskins fan but I sure hope they get their name back. Anytime you can kick liberalism in the teeth. I'm all for it. I'm tired of a few getting what they want over the will of the people. I heard that the Redskins named the team after themselves. They were all Native Americans who played on the team.

The Chicago Blackhawks, Cleveland Indians and Washington Redskins had 3 of the strongest most easily recognizable team logos. Look at Cleveland and Washington now and their ugly logos that nobody wants or cares for.

For me, I was born and raised a Redskins fan. Always understood that the name represented proud Indian heritage. It's a name that represents the heritage of this land . Only the people that hate the heritage wanted the name changed.
As a registered member of the Upper Skagit Tribe this has upset me from the start of talking about the name change. I cannot stand the people that say it is racist that non-white people are underrepresented and then systematically go through and cancel every single mascot that's not white... I have a small amount of Indian (with a feather) in me and my wife is half Indian. We had no problem with the Washington Redskins name. Most Naive Americans don't. It's these bleeding heart liberal, woke, corporations that forced the name change. And the new name is absolutely ridiculous. Bring back the Redskins name.
They will always be the Redskins to me (even though I'm not a Native American) They had some lean years and had some legendary seasons and players, plus three Super Bowl wins. Political correctness needs to stay out of our lives.

As a Cut Bank Montana native and I knew the Wetzel family well enough to know that this name change to Commanders was very wrong. I hope that it will be Redskins once again
