Yes! I love going on a roller coaster when I’m enjoying music. Its satisfying to hear the different styles an artist can use to create their music. Another great, chaotic GGS song is Drift. It’s personally a top 5 GGS song.
Daisuke is a musician who loves experimenting with and expanding his style. Seeing how varied his music can get while still being undeniably him is fascinating.
The best way to interpret the new Guilty Gear character tracks is not as traditional Rock songs, but instead as a bunch of "I Want" songs from Guilty Gear: Strive: The Broadway Rock Musical. Daisuke really tries to pack in as much story and emotion as he can into each track.
I think it's so cool how you picked up on the vocal textures, this character theme is for an androgynous gender-ambiguous character at the peak of their journey, where they learn how to enjoy life for its small pleasures after living completely shackled to another's goals and desires. The chaotic element in the composition seems to reflect how turbulent the journey was toward self actualization, but it's still beautiful with all the harmonies and the strings going along with the dissonant chords
the Queen influence is super strong, it's Daisuke's favorite band and there are lots of "Queen" moments throughout a lot of the vocal tracks in Strive!
I just LOVE the feeling of controlled chaos in the beginning of the song and then by the end we have this BEAUTIFUL harmonic rock until we get a full on orchestral resolution
I absolutely love this song and your reaction is really insightful. Also if you really want to be confused try listening to "Drift" also from Guilty Gear.
9:00 HAHAHA! Perfect. Daisuke is a huge Queens fan, and even has a signed album. You notice this inspiration in couple of his songs, some other notable ones being zato’s and happy chaos’ themes
Good notice with the Queen stuff, Daisuke is an absolute fan of them (Sol Badguy is basically buffed version of Freddie Mercury), there are few songs in Strive and Xrd where their influence is absolutely audible, stuff like 'Divide my heart', 'Coming home' and 'The Name of Heaven' to name the few.
This is definitely one of the more variety-filled songs on the soundtrack. A lot of the other songs sort of stick to the one thing they are trying to do and stay there, like The Roar of the Spark and Find Your One Way which both stick to their respective genres throughout the song. That being said, I actually really enjoy this song not only as a song, but also how it relates to the character is really interesting.
Daisuke for Strive did so much both lyrically and composition wise to represent each character and their arcs. My favourite from Strive is definately Baiken's theme "Mirror of the World", which has some really fun play with the lyrics, with the english and japanese lyrics being in conflict with each other (one reflecting Baiken's desire for atonement, and the other her belief that she can't atone), until they shift and harmonise both in meaning and song. Bridget's theme "The Town Inside Me" also does a really cool thing with the instrumentation, where everytime the chorus comes back around more gets added to it - it's the gray haze of Bridget's identity clearing up as she grows to understand who she is. Every character in the game is *striving* for something, which gets reflected in their themes so well.
When i first heard this song i didnt like the first vocals! Then the song grew onto me and now i really like it! It's fast and the voices are cool. Today is my birthday and seeing you posting this video makes my dat, love your reactions!
This is probably my favorite song in the game, and I’m definitely biased because it belongs to my favorite character not only in guilty gear but probably in any piece of media ever written. A little bit of explanation on my interpretation of why the song is so weird and disjointed: Testament (the character the song is about) appeared in the old Guilty Gear games, then dropped out of the story for a long time until the most recent game. Originally, testament was very edgy. They had a pretty shit life and had a big grudge against humanity, gears (basically robots), and even themself. In Guilty Gear X, however, they met a character named Dizzy, who is just an unequivocally good person. Testament went through a pretty big worldview shift, and in the end decided that they wanted to travel the world to hopefully find themself. After their long walk that left them out of the story completely, Testament returned to Strive as a completely different person. They’re now much more confident and content, having essentially decided that it just isn’t worth living that upset. They’re a very optimistic person now with 8,000,000 hobbies that they picked up along the way. They aren’t very important in the grand scheme of things anymore, and they’re okay with that. They have friends who feel like family and things to be passionate about, and they don’t need anything else. So, in my opinion, the distinct sections of the song basically represent the two versions of Testament we know. The guttural, spiteful sounding parts with lyrics that sound disillusioned about the world are old, edgy, angry Testament. Then the soaring choir parts talking about how “he never wanted to have special days” and “and yet she didn’t reject the light himself” are the new, more carefree Testament (also worth mention that Testament is agender, so they don’t actually have any preferred pronouns and the song rather confusingly refers to them using he, she, and they all at the same time). This is one of the least clear songs in Strive, though, so do know this is just my interpretation. I hope it helped contextualize the music!
@@ToughToonz easily my favorite fictional character ever written, they’ve just got such a well written story (way more than I could fit in a comment like this, so I had to cut a lot of great stuff like everything to do with Kliff) and soooo much style
“I dug it! … I think.” That’s pretty much me with the whole GG Strive soundtrack, but I think 100% of the tracks eventually landed for me - especially the weird ones like this. These songs feel tailor made for a channel like yours - they’re built to be broken down.
I really like all guilty gear music but I been so excited for the strive themes because they’re so different from most stuff people normally expect in osts
7:17 - 7:20 Being confused is about right for anyone who doesn't know the game series' lore. Considering the songs in strive are a crunched down history of a person, Testament(the character who's theme this is) can confuse people. He's been a son, mind controlled villain, a guardian questioning her own existence, and now they're a tourist.
Really cool to see you do this song! I was interested to hear your thoughts since this song is such an oddball even amongst guilty gear's roster, and a lot of people tend to either love this one or bounce off it. I'd be really keen to see you cover 'Mirror of the World' and 'Drift', because imo they're two great examples of guilty gear songs that tell you the story of the characters they represent, giving you a window into who they are and also doing a bit of world building. They blend a few different styles in ways that are so incredibly unique and I'd like to see how you pick out all the subtleties of either of those songs.
The guilty gear theme songs do so well at telling the story of a character, sometimes you can visualize their whole story by listening. I feel like the more complicated a character and their story is, the more dynamic and chaotic their theme tends to be. To me this one really shows how testament as a character changed from being a mysterious, scary humanoid to a kind, loving person who just wants to live in harmony with mankind. Absolutely beautiful, one of my favorites in the game.
This is 100% accurate. Daisuke is a genius at parlaying motifs. Pretty much all of these tracks fit their characters like a glove. And that means that the more chaotic the character is, the more chaotic their theme is.
This character's whole theme as of the new game is that they are exploring the whole world and picking up a variety of hobbies and talents, so to see so much variety within their song makes a lot more sense now that I think about it. then there is the lyrics with have to do with the character's emotional themes, but that's a lot harder to understand without lore context lol. Sweet to see you do this song and hope you eventually make your way to "Drift", which it seems a lot of people in the comments want you to do as well.
funny you said that one part of the song sounds like freddie mercury and queen, cuz they're huge inspiration for the guilty gear creator and composer daisuke ishiwatari. the actual name of the main character of guilty gear, called sol badguy, is Fredrick, and also the fact that he's named after freddie's album lol
The first segment of vocals reminds me a lot of Megadeth to some extent. Hopefully you'll get around to Alone Infection from the GGST OST at some point - might be the most beautifully chaotic song I've ever heard in a videogame =).
Testament's whole thing is that their different. No longer a human, not male nor female, isn't an antagonist and also not strictly allied to the good guys too iirc. Testament is Testament. Living life the way Testament wants, not bound to conventional stuff and is also learning to enjoy regular stuff like tea and watching Sharknado. It's all weird, but at this point they're free. Just sucks he's not a trap based fighter anymore but I suppose it's a testament (hah) that they've grown I guess. What am I even saying, I should get to sleep, am delirious
Maybe it's because I'm not into music and signatures and all that but I absolutely loved and understood this song. Even Happy Chaos' theme that flips into so many genres, love it and I feel like it's contained and shared enough to make sense
The way I interpret the constsntly fluxuating song is a way of showing that Testament (the character this song is for) lives exclusively in the now, not caring for whats happened in the past Thats why one section can feel completely unrelated to one before
Honestly your reaction is exactly what I love to see, because you understand immediately how much of an acquired taste the music is lmfaoooo But fr great video glad you enjoyed it!
I'm really curious how you would react to the last song that strive has gotten, which would be "the circle". It's EXTREMELY experimental but goes just as hard, you should really check it out!
You cannot possibly go wrong with the guilty gear strive soundtrack. Personally, I’d love to hear your reaction to Drift (because it’s even weirder than this song) or The Roar of the Spark (because it slaps really hard)
Putting these guilty gear songs into perspective while playing in-game… yeah still confusing. But it’s really important to have those big flourishes just at the right time when you do something particularly cool in game. This song from what I remember has the most dramatic build ups and breakdowns in the ost. In most songs, the more off beat parts or down tempos would line up when you’re still trying to hit each other, and then the flourish comes just in time when you go for the montage worthy combo. Absolutely love Daisuke’s mind on it, and i’m grateful you were able to pick at it with this video. Great job man, definitely subscribing ;)
I wasn't fully sure what to think of this song, initially, but man, I love it. Daisuke Ishiwatari is a massive Queen fan, so the similarities definetely aren't accidental. There are so many musical nods to bands and other music in Guilty Gear, not just in the soundtrack, but also in the game, with characters and moves being named after musicians and bands. It's really fun. There's parts in Extras, Elphelt's song, that sound like various christmas songs, which is just wild, when listening to the whole song, but my favorite is probably a section in Hellfire, Leo's theme, which sounds just a whole lot like the beginning of Great King Rat by Queen. Anyway, I love this song. It's so unique and out there, but somehow makes sense and the different sections work with each other. My favorite thing about it is the interchangable usage of he and she throughout the song. Testament is an enby icon, and I love how that's represented in the song.
The song of my main, you love to see it! I am also once again suggesting you give the song "necessary discrepancy" a shot, I think you'd have a fun time picking it apart
As someone who’s been shuffling all the guilty gear strive character themes for the last 2 months Testaments was my least favorite at first cause it’s so crazy and all over the place but honestly every one of them has grown on me, and if you’re looking for more to cover, Strive has Baiken’s theme which is the heaviest among the bunch fs
Would be cool if you make a video about a song called "Drift" from Guilty Gear Strive It also has the "A" and "B" parts. The "B" part is also called as the "Disney" part in community lol
Would be super interesting to see your reaction to the track "drift" from the same soundtrack. Confusing doesnt even begin to describe it but its still a fantastic track.
You probably hear this a lot, but I think you should double down on doing all the vocal tracks from Strive. From top to bottom that soundtrack is excellent, with many tracks going in wild directions like in this video. The track Necessary Discrepency is one of my favorites.
I implore you to check out Drift, that character theme is the most out there in the entire GG Strive Soundtrack, it is a bloody trip and a half and I love it for that
Guilty Gear songs are confusing, but not as confusing as how much they grow on you. You should check out Zato-1s and Ramlethals' themes. I didn't like either of them the first time I heard them, but they've really grown on me.
I´d recommend listening to "a fixed idea" from the first game, it´s not rare for him to include small references to older themes but in this case it´s almost a remake of testament´s orignial song
Funny he mentioned Queen considering it's Daisuke's favorite band, or at least was at one point, and that Sol's real name being Frederick is a reference to Freddie Mercury
Confused but amazed, that's exactly my reaction 1st time i heard this song too!! I feel you tony, i feel you XD . . Oh and anychance you'd react to more Persona 5?? there're lots more awesome tracks waiting for you like "Whims of fate" & "Life will change" for example.

Not sure if you're aware, but Daisuke Ishiwatari is a huge Queen fan. The lastest Guilty Gear is filled with tracks that have this same experiment with that big Rock Opera sound.
Well... I picked this song because one of my regulars from the community was in the discord was chatting about it. Become part of the community if you want to influence what goes on the channel.
@@DrumRollTonyReacts Well, let's just hope you "get influenced" to take a look at Necessary discrepancy next)) (Song, which is ramlethal's theme, not album)
this is Testament's theme she is a modified human called a gear who is disillusioned with the sanctity of life and so has decided that instead of trying to fulfill some cosmic destiny he will try to enjoy as much as they can leading her to be more of a bystander to important events " like a weed naturally as a matter of course". also the weird pronoun use in both the song and my explanation is because he is Agender( without gender) and goes by any pronouns
Wouldn't say any pronouns, they're constantly referred to by they/them in the game's text. The fact that the lyrics play with it imo doesn't mean that suddenly their pronouns are any&all
man i need u to check out some of my favs from the guilty gear franchise, including HEAVY DAY, Find your one way, Play the hero and The Roar of the spark
One of the interesting thig is that in the lyrics., he/she changes freely because lyrics describe the character that who has lost gender by forced surgery.
The other Guilty Gear songs you've listened to were more conventional, and I think only 2 of them were from Strive, the newest entry in the series. Strive has a bunch of more experimental tracks that are sometimes divisive among the community. If you think this song is wild, wait until you hear Drift, the theme for Happy Chaos. The tonal dissonance is on a whole other level. Yet it was voted #2 on a Japanese popularity poll, and I believe it scored relatively high on a Reddit poll. I personally disliked it on the first few listens and then got an acquired taste for it, so I'm curious to see where you land on it initially.
I'm surprised you find the song confusing. For me compared to other weirder or more experimental songs from Blazblue/Guilty gear (or other franchises I like), Testament's theme is pretty normal 😅

It also has the "A" and "B" parts.
I implore you to check out Drift, that character theme is the most out there in the entire GG Strive Soundtrack, it is a bloody trip and a half and I love it for that
I recommend Alone Infection or Let Me Carve Your Way for ur next ggst reaction :]
The start of the first lyrical section always make me think of Ozzy Osbourne
I really like 6 minutes in he is just like "wtf is happening bro-"
If you haven’t done it already Love the subhuman self is a fan favorite GG strive theme, it’s so good I love it
Subbed for more strive analysis good stuff
Can't wait to hear Drift eventually.
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS ONE this my second favorite 🙏🏽 my favorite one is:
The Town inside me (pls do this one next)
love the subhuman self and drift are my favorite GG Strive songs, I hope you'll get a chance to listen to them someday.
Funny he mentioned Queen considering it's Daisuke's favorite band, or at least was at one point, and that Sol's real name being Frederick is a reference to Freddie Mercury
The verses sounds a lot like early Megadeth, then it turns into power metal. Cool.
FINALLY SOMEONE COVERS THIS BANGER
I like your musical analysis of guilty gear thus far! Could you by chance do let me carve your way or alone infection?
Check out Zato-1's theme "Let Me Carve Your Way" if you want some weirdo bitonal polyrhythm stuff, incredible song and great vocal performance
More Guilty Gear music you love to see it🔥
If this was wild then you need to listen to "Drift"
wait until he hears "Drift" aka Happy Chaos OST. He will be even more confused
Baiken's theme from Xrd (Rokumon) is by far my favorite Guilty Gear track.
Confused but amazed, that's exactly my reaction 1st time i heard this song too!! I feel you tony, i feel you XD
.
.
Oh and anychance you'd react to more Persona 5?? there're lots more awesome tracks waiting for you like "Whims of fate" & "Life will change" for example.
@DrumRollTony Reacts hey tony, seems the scammers have found their way here. These guys are so annoying!!
Finally more GG strive
OH SHE FLIEEEEEEEEEEEES
Can you react Chthonic-PATTONKAN?
Thank you so much!! I will try to!
Check this out. All female, Japanese, jazz ensemble: Jazz Avengers. Drummer is Senri Kawaguchi, in her mid-twenties, one of the finest in Japan, if not the world. All the performers are 30 or under. Top players in Japan. ruclips.net/video/q0bo1_2tkt4/видео.html
Requiem please for the love of all that is good, the drums 😭😭😭
Not sure if you're aware, but Daisuke Ishiwatari is a huge Queen fan. The lastest Guilty Gear is filled with tracks that have this same experiment with that big Rock Opera sound.
Not the song I was hoping for next, but I'm glad to see you continue to react to Guilty Gear songs.
Well... I picked this song because one of my regulars from the community was in the discord was chatting about it.

@@DrumRollTonyReacts Well, let's just hope you "get influenced" to take a look at Necessary discrepancy next)) (Song, which is ramlethal's theme, not album)
@@alpha-tomahawk532 Please do, Ramlethal's theme my favorite from the game
Finally a another guilty gear song!
If he thought this song was crazy, I wonder how he'd react to "Drift".
Can't handle the "they them anthem!"
Wow, some of this really clashes but it's interesting.
You should listen to Drift. It's definately more confusing but sounds awesome lol
this is Testament's theme she is a modified human called a gear who is disillusioned with the sanctity of life and so has decided that instead of trying to fulfill some cosmic destiny he will try to enjoy as much as they can leading her to be more of a bystander to important events " like a weed naturally as a matter of course". also the weird pronoun use in both the song and my explanation is because he is Agender( without gender) and goes by any pronouns
Yo great vid, you should totally check out Mirror of the World and Love the Subhuman Self, both of my favorite tracks from the Guilty Gear Ost
Please listen to "Drift" and "Mirror of the World", they are such interesting pieces and also my favs from guilty Gear strive
You should check out "Sky Should Be High Vocal" from Guilty Gear Xrd if you haven't already
Daisuke is indeed a queen fan lol
I want to see his confusion of listening to Drift.
Yay Guilty gear! Can’t wait till you do Drift lol
One of the interesting thig is that in the lyrics., he/she changes freely
because lyrics describe the character that who has lost gender by forced surgery.
I love Guilty Gear Strive music. I hope to see more
Your now confused on how the song is sang and played. Wait till you hear Drift, which is literally drifting 😆
This is only my 4th gg song. The context has not had so much variation before 🤷♂️
