- Golden barbs are a well known species in the fish keeping hobby and can be kept in a wide range of different aquarium styles and setups thanks to their hardiness. They don't grow too large - maxing out at about 3 inches and are defiantly one of the easiest barb to keep as there are not many other fish they don't get along with. They only reall challenge they pose is they are active and do like some space, and so for a small school of about 6 individuals you'll need to provide then with a tank at least 80cm in length.
My favourite fishy stuff! (yes these are affiliate links :) )
Lights
Nicrew Classic LED - amzn.to/3fG3Uv6 - Traditional led light that's got a nice high output in a white/cool colour range. Makes plants look extra green.
Nicrew SKY - amzn.to/3Ktn45U - really nice light for natural looking tanks, also the one I use for filming.
Filters
Pat Mini - amzn.to/3fE1u0k - popular for a reason, just a superb little filter thats great for shrimp tanks and fish alike.
ASAP - amzn.to/3nBuytp - the old favourite and the one i return to most frequently.
Air Pump
AP-3 Kit : amzn.to/34UMA3q - Great little air pump, not a silent runner, but has been very reliable for me.
Tanks
Scaper 45 - amzn.to/3KBxG2H - a lovely high quality tank that comes with a super strong light, and a decent enough hang on back filter - perfect for newbies and scapers alike.
My filming stuff
Camera - Cannon 200D - amzn.to/354OLlc - nice camera, easy to use.
BigTripod - Manfrotto befree - amzn.to/3GLXDdj - pricey but super sturdy and can take being knocked over a lot by clumsy operators.
Lil' tripod - amzn.to/355WmQs - can't pronounce the name but it's been a good tripod for filming things on tables or when I have tanks on the floor. Животные
I have had half a dozen for about 6 years and adore them. I have 11 tanks in the house but the gold barb tank is by far my wife's favourite (she is not a fish person by any stretch but tolerates my hobby). Any time someone goes near the tank, they will gather up and watch the person. It is very easy to tell if they have been fed or not as they will seemingly beg for food if they haven't had breakfast. I have hundreds of various nano fish but only the gold barbs have behaviour that shows they are aware of things going on outside the tank.
I started with a dozen but over the years have lost half of them. Despite a good lid with only a few tiny gaps, nearly every single one died jumping out of the tank chasing food including jumping out of the feeding hatch while I was adding food although those ones I could rescue and put back in the water.
They are greedy water dogs but an often overlooked gem of a pet.
I love these little guys! Especially how chunky these guys get without getting way too big like actual goldfish
Got 15 of em last year and they been getting chunky. We love. We use to have angel fishes and now having these in a 60 gallon tank is a breeze
Nice fish
I need to find them in a store asap. Love them
Love my Golden Barbs... They do so well in my tank alongside my very greedy Platy's and Danio's. Such a joy to watch them go about their business...
I'm with you; I like the freckles. Its cute.
I have 2. One small one huge.
Ohh petsmart has them
Been a long time since I've seen these guys! Cool, cheap little fish!
Described Golden barbs perfectly 👌🏻
Beautiful fish
Sooo, they are also an alternative to Tetra... Buenos Aires Tetra? I think so... Nice documentary, thank you!
Great video
I have golden barbs and I think they can fin nip especially if not fed enough, I didn’t catch them in the act but it was either them or the Krib.
Can golden barbs mix with cherry red barbs or cross breed them? I never seem anyone mix those 2 type in the same tank, could you make a video of them together? Thanks 🙏 😊
Those males are not the standard variety. Usually the have a more solid greenish black mottled band along their sides. Those are totally clear.
One of the reasons I really like goldfish is because they such prodigious duckweed and algea eaters. Do these little guys have these characteristics too? I just love your channel - it's a wonderful celebration of the hobby and very relaxing to watch.
No
My Gold Barbs does not eat duckweed and algae.
I have not seen the variant that's all yellow, very pretty! Steamy pools in the tropic? Do you have a source for that?
any plans to do a betta overview?
Just got 13 of these
Thx. again for another species profile. Very usefull for when I have to prep and make for my next fish choice. The local shop simply offer too much and making choice on the fly becomes a hassle and leading to some questionable choices ... at least in my case.
