I’ve watched RC modeling videos for years and this is my favorite to date. The engine alone is a masterpiece and it runs so reliably. Not too overpowered with a gentle realistic flight

That much mass spinning always freaks me out. You would have thought a century ago there must have been a more efficient design.

@@AndyFromBeaverton Duh! TWO engines, the second one turning the OTHER way. Think in solutions, man. This is the obvious answer: compensate those horrible gyro effects. Too many planes have crashed by leaving the tarmac and destroying an expensive runway light. Why does the world accept those bad properties of airplanes?! Try selling cars that steer crooked, nobody will buy it. And planes? Weird side effects are considered normal. Why?!

the real reason for being rotary is to eliminate the mass of the flywheel of the engine and build a lighter engine. in this case the cylinders will act as flywheel. The problem was created by the gyroscopic forces that made difficult to turn the plane to one side, this is was abandoned later.

It sounds like the real thing. I was at a museum and outside the airport hangar they started the engine up of a Caudron plane (it might have been a replica but I think they said it wasn’t). The pilot had to keep the engine going by revving it or putting more throttle in so it wouldn’t turn off. They said the engine was so loud it sounded like gunshots, I reckon it did! as the sound also echoed through the hangar next to it. By the way, great video and great job on the build of this RC airplane. 👍

Wonderful efforts on all fronts, engine, building and flying! I think test flying it and finding there was insufficient up elevator control would have been stressful.

Great video! Very interesting. Love the sound. Most impressive is the rotary engine and how it responds to the throttle. I'm glad the model was not seriously damaged in the landing. I look forward to the next flight! (NC USA)

there is something magical about a rotary engine, it just looks amazing spinning like that and man this this engine can idle pretty low, there is nothing like something that is this close in appearance, construction and operation to the real thing! Bravo, hats off to you sir! Now I never flown or own an RC plane but do have a good amount of production open rocker engines, single cylinder etc on me and one day I want to build a plane that flies as slow as this powered by an OS FS 60 open rocker which I own 2 of. just lovely to watch this plane floating away like that in the air, you see it all in sort of like slow motion. Just wonderful!
