The Conspirator is my go too knife for everyday . If it's too big for what I'm wearing then it's the old bugout . And I agree with you 💯 percent the Altus my gent carry .
I like the button lock explosion. I have the bl elementum and do enjoy it great size and slices well. I think of all of them and the way I'm going in my collection lately the smok and Malibu would be the 2 I'd go after. Great video brotha 👍
In my opinion dude skip the Malibu and get the smock the malibu's great but it's basic the smock you feel a little bit more excited about in my opinion
So I've heard nothing but great things about the pyrite tbh. My buddy Jake from Ohio state won one in a gaw then bought another. That's saying alot because he loves button locks but has yet to find one that makes him happy lol!
Got the Chevelier and it's my favorite over my Benchmades. Question is, now that the new Sencut came out for $50(?), Does that take the list for best value?!
Yeah I dunno man, sencut is the value keeper that civivi was 4 years ago and that's a good thing.... I would say sencut as a whole is Competitive for the best budget brand you never pay attention to lol ..... they are great models though 100 percent t
I've been loving my Gerber instant knife (even if it was recalled due to people hurting themselves closing it). the button lock (or as they called it "thumb plunge lock") is slick and useful. Being left handed, I always feel a little... Weird using traditional locking mechanisms. I feel like they're putting my thumb into the path of the blade closing, vs pulling away as you normally would when using right handed. Button locks are definitely my go-to from now on.
I have button lock elementum and it some how always ends up in my pocket over my other button locks. Its fun to see how little gravity or motion it takes to engage the blade. You can get it down to barely making any motion at all to swing out the blade completely.
See the coach and just didn't speak with me for some reason as far as that concept what do you think about it I mean how are the ergos to I heardthe ergos are kind of goofy
I had pretty much decided on a CIVIVI. And funny enough, the Elementum and Conspirator really have caught my eye. So, thanks for confirming my choice(s). Loved the breakdown.
I don't have a manual botton lock. With so many coming out there is no rush. Thanks for comparing so many but still none on the wish list. Have a great Friday ☕☕
My man!!! Haha fighting the fad love it!!!! Yeah dude their good knives NOT because they have a button lock but the button lock adds that extra talking point ya know? Thanks for watching brotha
I do like button locks-I like pretty much any lock that doesn’t put my thumb in the way of the guillotine. 🤪. Honestly, I’m ok with the more traditional liner/frame/bolster locks as well, but the other kinds are always a selling point.
Right it's all just a preference, I find myself not infatuated with the button lock craze myself unless the knife is awesome (conspirator, smock, button lock elementum and the mini slim pickens are my jams)
I’m big on button and axis locks anything where I can run the blunt side across my leg and close it 😂 makes it so much quicker especially working in retail where I’m opening a box and running around
And you're right the Malibu Protech started this whole thing I could never get my hands on him there was a waiting list from here to Mars and everything changed in Civivi Damascus Conspirator and I change out the factory clip Titanium Sent Cut shasse. When I recently bought the Kaiser Mad Tanto button lock is beautiful
Had a Huntsman SAK all my life. My first folder was a Civivi Elementum (linerlock) which i still carry. For fidget reasons bought the Sencut Sachse a year later which is a fun knife but boring profile. Now, a year later i went for a Spyderco PM2 and think this is going to be my last knife. I really love my Civivi Elementum more since it carries so nice in the pocket, almost like its not there but my PM2 is a really heavy duty beast. I would not dare certain tasks with a button lock. The springs needs to be replaced and you mostly only know when, when the lock fails. So spinewack your button locks every month or so just to check if the lockup is still good.
Great video…i love the Civivi elementum…i have lost use of one hand and my right eye so i cannot sharpen or even strop a blade anymore…your recommendation please…S35vn or other steel…whatever you recommend for sharpest out of box factory edge that will last me a long time. Thank you for your time.
Thank you young man. That’s the nicest offer I’ve had in awhile. I would never take advantage of your generosity though it is admirable and I’m a little speechless. I was just looking for your advice on best Civivi button lock you had run across as far as sharp out of box. Thank you.
First of all.... secretly my favorite thing in the knife hobby is sharpening, secondly nothing is left to sharpen in my house;). Beat civivi button lock for edge out of the box - my be controversial but I would say my element button lock. (Best button lock anyways even if the locking mech is slightly weird lol)
Lost my first Conspirator. Looked for it for a week then bought another one. Recently I misplaced my 2nd Conspirator. I IMMEDIATELY bought a 3rd. Consequently I was only Conspirator-less for less than 48 hours. My wife found the misplaced #2 and now I have TWO. Now if I lose, or misplace, one of my 2 Conspirators I will IMMEDIATELY buy a 4th while I CALMLY look for the lost (or misplaced) #2 or #3. The knife I USE the most seems to be the knife I LOSE the most. I’m 74. Someday I may FORGET which of my knives is my FAVORITE.
My Cormorant was my gateway drug. Was my first good steel, first button lock, and first front flipper. Ticked so many boxes and still is fun af to carry.
I have the same top two, actually the exact same versions, and agree. I am looking forward to a more full sized 3.75 inch blade button lock in a practical configuration which might then be my fav. Alas, few mainstream OEMs cater to the full size enthusiasts anymore. CH, Maxace, several Russian makers and a few others still serve us.
Yeah man it does seem like the market's gearing towards those smaller knives nowadays then it is the 3.5" above Whit's just an above which it sucks man it's you need to keep the variety going because if you keep pitching down it's gonna leave some people out and that's a sign I don't know but yeah the filthbar and the conspirator 2 of some of the best button locks for the price of my pending the field's bar realistically for the price is probably one of the best if you're concerned With price for what you're getting
Great video man! Way to shout out Corey from my practical blade also. He is quickly becoming one of my favorites as well as you because you guys are unique. Anyway, I love button locks, own Cogent, conspirator, chevalier, feldspar, and the TwoSun 303, and 313. Had a cormorant but within a few days one of the screws fell out and the threads were stripped so I sent it back to KC. It was fun with its multiple deployment methods and s35vn is excellent but not sure about the QC and I also love and have multiple Kizer knives, which reminds me of the Begleiter XL button lock that I also have and it’s great. Keep up the great videos brother. 👍🏻
Yeah bro Corey's a good dude ma'am and thank you so much for watching And I do think I'm gonna have to check out that XL sometime soon man I've been avoiding it but I might have to do it
Kizer sent me theri recent serape line for review and my only previous button lock was the apache button lock, which had it's charms, but compared to the kizer "original" i was blown away by. As for the Cormorant I'm super torn, the detent is chunky and the there's a distinct lack of snappiness. Good video. check out my old shorts featuring the apache BL i could easily reverse flick via the fuller, trick was to do it towards the tip of the blade to give your flick more leverage, that said i wasn't in love with how bad the detent was at first. gave it to my employee but i also was proud of my reverse flick on the full size apache too.
Winner for me is the conspirator. I own an elementum button lock and I love it. But I would prefer a bit beefier knife. And that is the conspirator. I’m gonna pick one up in wood handles.
Altus is my favorite knife for edc. One of the reasons button locks are so popular is us lefties can use these easily. Until manufacturers start making more ambi knives, these are as good as it gets. I have a Spyderco para3 and the lock on the back of the knife is unruly to deal with quickly. If it had a button lock, to me, it would be the perfect knife.
What about the Cogent did you not like? I'm on the fence about it considering Sencut's less expensive options but I can't for the life of me find a reason not to put the Cogent next on my list.
I thought the ergos felt a bit off to be honest. (Purely an opinion I'm sure) but due to that it became my least favorite civivi button lock. That being said, my buddy Jake from Ohio state really got into the sencut line and loves damn near every one he purchase s
I am very happy to hear this. I just ordered one. It’ll be my first non Swiss Army knife. Other videos were saying it was a bit underwhelming. I’m somewhat ignorant but looked at a lot of knives in a certain range and just caved and ordered a conspirator. That’s a damn cool name too. Anyways hope I made the right call. Can only afford one
It’s the only one I have so far and I love it. Got a little wobble I need to tighten but that’s after awhile of owning. I’m considering is kizer original and assassin but I can’t choose
I’ve been into button locks for a few years now, with the first one being the CRKT Tighe Tac Two Tanto, then got the Tangrem Vector, the Protech Cambria(they’re first button lock), then later got the Kizer Cormorant, Real Steel Griffin, Freeman 451, and the nicest being the Hoback Sumo. I have a Protech Malibu on the way and hood to get the Civivi Conspirator, Alliance Designs Mini Slim Pickens, and We Knife Co. Culex. I have a problem but I just love collecting knives and I’ve been collecting for 6 years now. Great video btw
How do u like your Malibu? I’ve got a feeling ur gonna love it. I fucking fell in love with the sumo, but I can’t get myself to pull the trigger on it when it came out hoback wasn’t making his knives in the US anymore despite still charging top top tier “made In America” pricing
I didn't think I'd like the elementum button lock as much as I do. I basically carry that all time. Gonna have to get the titanium version when price comes down. I got most of these. That feldspar was a Lil better than I figured also. I prefer the regular feldspar over the button lock. The kizer original is probably the best deal and best made. I got in on the original in black. For the $ the Malibu can't hang with the original I have. They well made. I don't have my Malibu anymore. They are overated. Good knife
Agreed on the Malibu brotha! And yeah the elementum is surprisingly .... amazing lol .... I have owned probably 90 percent of the civivi models and that is the ONLY one I still own and carry
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm just stoked that there are more buttonlocks on the market and at cheaper price points with better availability than the Malibu. I mean the cogent has become one of my favorite knives and I even prefer a buttonlock to an axis style lock. And at some point I plan to get a smok. Even over a PM2 at this point. Just stoked for more buttonlocks.
Brandon_The Crow :- Just FYI... the Smock by Spyderco is not a button lock. It is a Compresion lock that uses a button to release the compression lock (reverse liner lock) mechanism. The term "button lock" actually refers to the plunger lock mechanism.
@@blueeyeswhitedragon9839 I'm aware a compression lock is just a reverse liner lock and that if we wanna play tue semantics game that the smock technically isn't a button lock. But again that just seems so semantic to a needless and cringy degree. Like the lock us still actuated with the use of a button. It's kinda like the sliding bar lock. Everyones gonna call it an axis lock even if it's not technically that.
No thank you, people that want to correct random people they don't even know in public is down right annoying lol and they are doing it more for their own satisfaction rather than to be helpful.
There’s a way to fix the button stick if it’s there on the civivis . I had a bad stick on an altus so polished the blade and button according to Baz on blades video and it worked like a champ 👍👍. I like the button locks for 15 years now since Milwaukee came out with the 1902 utility knife . We were all like this is 👏 fricken great one handed operation .
Love my Smock. As a lefty the only knives I care for are rear flippers with some type of button/compression lock on the spine side. I'm not a fan of liner/frame locks or thumb studs. I'm sure I will end up getting most of these but my Smock will stay my EDC.
Hahahaha I hear ya brotha.... the love doesn't last long if your just going after the lock lol I keep going back to my malice and zaan lol thanks for watching brotha
I'm a huge fan of the og button elementum, it is definitely the perfect size elem. The only thing I want to change is to put the button from the cogent. I fidget the button elem until my thumbs are raw. I actually love the cogent a bunch too, the g10 handle is damn near perfect with the texture and jimps. So good. Hate that it has lockrot. The Spartan pallas is still one of my favorites, though it really needs jimping on the flipper.
Don’t sleep on the Sencut Sasche for high value. The Civivis are great too and all them are real close to the Malibu quality and action wise for a fraction.
@@EEDC totally agree. There's a tangible quality to it but it's kind of boring. I have a WE Culex arriving today. I was really intrigued by it. Like a premium Altus / mini conspirator vibe
I own one for 1.5 years. No issues with the crystal. The ugly thing for me is that the bezel insert is misaligned by a fraction of a millimetre. I think this is a common issue. The piece in this video also seems to have the same issue.
I prefer the original elementum Because it locks Closed. I use the button on my other button locks as often as the flipper thumb stud or fuller but thats me. btw I to wanted to like the Cogent but I much prefer my Petrified Fish Victor. Would I like a Victor with a button lock? Oh yeah...
Conspirator yes! The question is, with button locks still Very popular, Why in The WORLD Hasn't Civivi offered the Elementum With a Flipper AND BUTTON!?!? I'd buy one right now and so would Thousands of others.
I was debating between Conspirator and Altus. Ended up getting the Altus in cuibourtia. Was nice and fidgetty for a week. then one day i picked it up and it didn't lock. the button was just stuck. Tore the knife apart, cleaned it, lubed it, unlubed it, greased it... No luck, after about 3 or 4 tries getting it to work. Ended up warrantying it, and they could't fix it either, so got a refund. My 1st and last civivi, and "cheap" button lock. 😑
Hmm.. no issues with the Altus here. I did a few tweaks though .. polished and softened the ramp slope...and refit a slightly weaker spring. Now its a fidget machine and the best of three button locks I have.. (all three have had the detent slope highly polished).
Yeah, that's very possible man! I feel like the mordax didn't gain nearly as much traction as the Malibu though which is why I credit the Malibu with starting the trend... thoughts?
@@EEDC I do think they sold a lot more Malibus. The Mordax was made in smaller batches but always sold out, so I think that made protech realize the market was there.
I like the Kizer Begleiter XL. It's the best one I have tried, for me. And, when you install Skiff Bearings, it becomes the smoothest running Plunge-Lock Folder out there, in my opinion. Try it you'll like it! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
I liked the tangram vigor. got one for my brother and he's beaten the crap out of it and it's still great soooooo being made by kizer and having given swayback a go but didn't like the design I'm leaning towards the kizer original. plus I like smaller knives.
That's awesome I wish I could be a solo knife guy and like like a review on how my knife's performing over a long period of time but I swapped them out like I changed my underwear so that's not a thing but uh yeah I've never felt that tangrum yet I need to
Terrific run down man! Thanks for taking the time to go over all these. Its such a HUUUGE craze right now….every company is going to have a slightly different iteration.
The Sencut Sasche should be on any budget button lock list. Really an impressive knife at about $45.00
My 1st button lock is a K. Begleiter XL….larger, solid knife, smooth action in all deployments, nice button. Got mine in marbled CF, sweet 👍
Same here only micarta! Rock solid, no wiggle, great sound to boot!
Amazing to see your video just 2 hours AFTER buying both your winners !! Quite the affirmation....many thanks....literally glowing :)

The Civivi Chevalier with wood scales and Damascus blade looks just sick and gentleman friendly
I just see "made in china" when I look at any civivi.
The We mini malice is my Favorite

I shouldn't reply at all here. . But Brandon you sir deserve a slow 👏 👏 👏 for literally saying what I was thinking 🤔 ahhhhh love it
@@EEDC 😂😂 thanks my dude.
No thank you, people that want to correct random people they don't even know in public is down right annoying lol and they are doing it more for their own satisfaction rather than to be helpful.
The Civivi conspirator and amirite and just amazing ❤
There’s a way to fix the button stick if it’s there on the civivis . I had a bad stick on an altus so polished the blade and button according to Baz on blades video and it worked like a champ 👍👍. I like the button locks for 15 years now since Milwaukee came out with the 1902 utility knife . We were all like this is 👏 fricken great one handed operation .
Got the Elementum and have a Chevalier on the way because i love a sheepsfoot blade for the price you can have a few. Great vid.
Cool man how did you feel when you got the Chevalier?
Love my Smock. As a lefty the only knives I care for are rear flippers with some type of button/compression lock on the spine side. I'm not a fan of liner/frame locks or thumb studs. I'm sure I will end up getting most of these but my Smock will stay my EDC.
I bought a few button locks.. but I have discovered the Demoko 20.5 with the Shark Lock.. and button locks no longer appeal to me
Hahahaha I hear ya brotha.... the love doesn't last long if your just going after the lock lol I keep going back to my malice and zaan lol thanks for watching brotha
Elementum Button Lock checks all my boxes for now.
I'm with ya dude I know people hate that but I like the elementum probably over all other budget buttonlocks
Button locks are so safe, so easy, so drippy!
Love some button lock action man!
I have found that button lock is my favorite.
For the money yes Conspirator mine is the Damascus version and I added a Titanium clip and it is super I carry it everyday.
I forget did you ever have a protech mordax? If not wanna check mine out?
I didn't lol but 8 actually traded mine off ;) the mordax is awesome but mordax/Malibu kind of in the same genre for me lol
I have the Altus and the Elementum. Both are great in their own right my only complaint with either one is the pocket clip design.
Great job, but I'll take the Smock...
One of my favorites is the Ferrum Forge Mordax!
Ohhh man that was one of mine too (I removed my flipper and added thumbstuds lol)
I’m thinking about getting the Cjrb Lago do you guys think it’s a good knife or na
Never felt it bro but I do trust cjrb to put out a good product ya know.... designs looks decent!
I am thinking about getting a Kizer Begleiter 2 button lock.
I am waiting on the Kizer HIC-CUP Button Lock and the Kizer Chili Pepper Button Lock, but I love the button locks.
I have the Altus, Cogent, & CJRB . I plan on getting the Conspirator too. We just came out with their button lock version of the Altus
My current favorite button lock is the Sencut Sachse.
Any thoughts in the Kizer hic-cup?
I think it's easily better than the civivis lol just the design not saying either one executed anything better or worse
Don’t sleep on the Sencut Sasche for high value. The Civivis are great too and all them are real close to the Malibu quality and action wise for a fraction.
The original button lock... $10 Milwaukee fastback utility knife 2010. Fidget dream for cheap
I am eagerly awaiting my Kizer Hic-cup in black with the flipper tab....
Did you get it yet?
I've been thinking about the Civivi Conspirator
I don't have the brs but of the rest of the bunch I find myself carrying the Altus and the Malibu most for edc. The conspirator is third.
See while I think the Malibu is overhyped I do think that it is a fantastic EDC carry it's just kind of boring you know what i mean at least to me
@@EEDC totally agree.
I like my Kizer Original button lock.
Super solid little knife man great choice e
Smock 1st, Altus 2nd; Conspirator 3rd. Haven’t tried the Feldspar.
You gotta love that spyderco smock dude breaking love that thing
I have them all and the feldspar is the best , yes better than the Malibu
I prefer the original elementum Because it locks Closed. I use the button on my other button locks as often as the flipper thumb stud or fuller but thats me. btw I to wanted to like the Cogent but I much prefer my Petrified Fish Victor. Would I like a Victor with a button lock? Oh yeah...
Does anyone remember the CRkT Tighe Tac Two Tanto???? Super fidgety with the flipper and thumb studs. One of the Pioneer in my eyes
Big fan of the Elementum
The elementum is awesome. I’m not sure what you mean that people don’t like it.
The button lock version people struggle to get over the fact the only opening method is the button.
Sad everytime I see the original and it doesn’t have a reversible pocket clip. Just love how it looks.
Maxace Babylon kicks the Malibu's ass. Love the Elementum, and the Begleiter XL button lock from WMK. The Cormorant XL in 3V is in the mail, should be
...should be a treasure, I am assuming. Conspirator is enticing!
For sure man! Haven't actually held anything from maxace except my ti driver lol
Conspirator yes! The question is, with button locks still Very popular, Why in The WORLD Hasn't Civivi offered the Elementum With a Flipper AND BUTTON!?!? I'd buy one right now and so would Thousands of others.
Feldspar is already in my cart. But then so's the Altus.
I own 2: CIVIVI Cogent, and Kizer Original. I have always been suspect of the long term viability of the general design. I won’t likely buy any more.
I agree I would think that button will wear out before many other locks but I have no proof or evidence ... only a hunch lol
Wait wait wait ... do you have pictures? I'm genuinely curious at this point 👉
Hmm.. no issues with the Altus here. I did a few tweaks though .. polished and softened the ramp slope...and refit a slightly weaker spring. Now its a fidget machine and the best of three button locks I have.. (all three have had the detent slope highly polished).
My next button lock might be the Volstead valkary
I own 2 Spyderco Smocks, and a Civivi Conspirator. I want to get a Kizer Hiccup in micarta.
The hiccup is cool bro but going to be smaller than the other three yoy got
Only three buttons I want are the Elementum, Kizer Begleiter, and the Kizer Original.
Id say the Mordax (Ferrum forge design, made by protech) started the trend, they started making the Malibu after
Yeah, that's very possible man!
Looking at the Kizer Assassin as a gift for my son
I hear a lot of people talking about blade rock with buttons.
I liked the tangram vigor. got one for my brother and he's beaten the crap out of it and it's still great soooooo being made by kizer and having given swayback a go but didn't like the design I'm leaning towards the kizer original. plus I like smaller knives.
That's awesome I wish I could be a solo knife guy and like like a review on how my knife's performing over a long period of time but I swapped them out like I changed my underwear so that's not a thing but uh yeah I've never felt that tangrum yet I need to
Kizer begleiter 2 button lock is the way to go
Waiting for a smaller version of the Sencut Sasche.
Terrific run down man! Thanks for taking the time to go over all these. Its such a HUUUGE craze right now….every company is going to have a slightly different iteration.
