I loved the video it’s full of knowledge I have a question for you please My drone keeps on loosing the video feed connection after few second for flying I restarted the app and re download the app but not helped
I am 57 years old used to fly RC planes. I bought my first drone about 2 months ago from a neighbor it was a Pro Mark It was fun at first now I am bored with it. I just bought a Maverick pro off Amazon I know I am a few years behind but I think this be the best drone for me right now I've been watching your videos I cannot wait for it comes in. Thank you for your videos it made me very excited and I believe I will really enjoy flying drones. A new beginning.
Great video 51 drones. I’ve been flying my mavic pro platinum for a year now and I can say that a lot of RUclips videos Helped me fly,, this video should be watched by all new and old drone flyers !!!! Thank you 51 Drones
I bought this from a guy.that needed money. I love it but did not come with a charger. So had to buy one. But for what I payed that's not a problem. I can't wait to fly it. It did have some battery so I know it works. But glad this video is here it's telling me a lot. Thanks keeping coming....
Thanks for this video, I've had my Mavic for a coupla years now and really haven't used it to its full potential. Now we are having to stay home as much as possible I'm trying to learn as much as possible.Your RUclips channel is fantastic. Keep up the good work Russ. Dave from South Australia
The radar setting shows a slight arch on your screen and shows not only the distance of an obstacle from the drone but also which side. It’s very helpful . Keep up the great videos, I have definitely learned a lot.
just purchased my mavic platinum and will get it tomorrow. Spend my sunday to this channel learning all about mavic beginner should know before flying. Best beginner drone channel, easy to understand and to follow. Thanks for sharing. Just subscribed.
Another top video. Still my GO-TO channel for learning more about my Mavic. I've only had it for a couple of days, but thanks to your vids I feel a lot more confident to go flying with it.
I know this video is 3-yrs old, but I just received my Mavic Pro Platinum today, and am in the process of setting it up, then go to those settings you just went through. Thanks for the tips, and the video.
Good job , I always learn something new when I watch your videos , as I often still feel like a rookie . Thanks for taking the time always , to help other people learn and improve.
Gimbal Buffer is the time it takes for the gimbal to actually stop moving after you stop scrolling the wheel. If it's set at 0 it has a hard stop when you stop moving, more means it glides a little more after you stop scrolling to give it a more natural feel. And the "Radar" that you already had on, that's the obstical avoidance radar, when you're flying too close to something, those green/yellow/red bars that show where the obstical is.
I am a retired professional aerial photographer who was looking for a hobby. After watching some of your videos I have order a DJI Mavic Pro. Thanks for a great job on the videos.
Job well done, excellent. I have not seen and in depth video like this any where focused on new drone pilots. I just bought Mavic pro 2 there is so much information in just getting set up it is over whelming. I am using your videos as step by step tutorials for my smart controller and taking notes for when I go to fly. Yes, I am very nervous about my first time flying. I do not want to have a mistake or fly away, far too expensive.
Thank you so much!! I will be watching for your posting with eager anticipation! I can't tell you how frustrating this has been. This is a topic that just doesn't seem to be discussed by anyone. I'll get back to you after your vlog.John
Excellent videos! Thank you for breaking it down for those of us beginners. Much appreciated! Incidentally, you mentioned in your video that you have never been able to use the "Display Radar Map" feature. I have that turned on with my Mavic Pro, and what that does is on your phone or tablet (whatever device you're using), you'll see a curved bar that looks similar to what you see on backup monitors in vehicles, and when that "radar bar" appears to touch an object on your screen (hence, meaning your drone is without a few feet of an object), your controller will start to beep - slowly at first, and then it beeps faster and faster the closer you move to that object. So, as stated, it works exactly like the backup monitors and sensors on a vehicle. :)
Recently purchased a Mavic Pro and been watching videos on RUclips to learn more about my drone. Thank you for such a detailed video and going into depth on the control and look forward to watching your other videos to learn more. Awesome job! *****
I just purchased the Mavic 2 pro and it is a bit of a learning curve. I also own the mini and air 2. The Dji fly app is extremely easy to use and I have to admit
Hi, I’m enjoying your videos and your point of view from a novice quad/drone owner. I have spent the majority of my 30+ year RC career flying fixed wing aircraft and have only recently entered the world of Quad/Drones. I live in colorful Colorado and am now being confronted with all of the places in this beautiful state that I may not be able to fly my Mavic. ☹️😠 One of the big selling points for me was all the beautiful scenery I would be able to capture with this new platform. Keep up the great work. I look forward to following your channel.
I messed up on my 1st post, so sorry. I own the mini air2 and have just recently purchased the pro 2. The go 4 app is a little intimidating compared to the fly app. Your video has instilled a lot more confidence moving forward. Thanks for sharing my friend, and keep on keepin on.
First of all, congratulation for your little one for being training wheel free. This video was made in 2017. She may be on a dirt bike by now. lol. Thanks for the video. TC
Enable radar map was already turned on. So at 2:50, see that little map down in left corner? In the upper right corner of that map is a circle within a circle with a cross through both circles (radar). I was told "You should NEVER disable it even if you could. It is the most useful tool in flying as it tells you exactly what the orientation of the drone is so you can quickly bring it home with the correct stick movement without having to guess." On a small phone screen you have to tap the map icons in the corners to change the map to other views. If you tap the center of that map, it maximizes to full screen, tap the center again of where the little map used to be and it will minimize. On a larger screen such as a tablet, the map and radar may be separate, you will have the map and the radar on either bottom corner of screen. I read: That radar is very important. It has a great deal of information which includes: - Direction that the craft is from you. The little white triange at the top of the circle represents the front side of your controller. This should be lined up with the craft (the red triangle) for optimal signal. - The direction that the craft is pointing. When you want to fly the craft home, you orient the red triangle so that if points toward the middle of the circle (depending on how far away the craft is away from you), which is toward you. - The shaded half circle shows your roll (left and right lean) and pitch (forward and backward lean). When you press the right stick toward the left, the shaded half circle will tilt, representing the angle of the craft. This lets you know that the craft is responding. - In sports mode, the outside of the radar will be the tachometer. When you push the right stick forward and/or left stick forward, the RPM (or Power) will increase and is represented by the line around the outside of the circle. The line goes clockwise around the radar circle. The line is green and with more speed turns blue. For maximum efficiency and max flight distance, keep the RPM/power line near the green/blue intersection.
I loved that moment when my baby girl rode a few feet w no training wheels. She’s 13 now. Of course, now I would probably film it with my Mavic, lol. Love this smart bird!
That’s very sweet about your daughter, good for her. It must be wonderful to be a parent. I’m 40 and have no children and don’t know if I ever will. Time’s ticking, just haven’t met the right person yet. Thanks for the tips, I just ordered my Mavic on Sunday. Still hasn’t shipped, I’m growing a bit impatient.
Hi, thanks for yet another great video! Your videos have helped me a lot. Here are a couple things I've learned that might go toward paying it forward (just a little)... Display Radar Map: This enables a display that appears on your screen when you get within about 30 feet of an object in front of the Mavic. It shows some arc-shaped bands that represent radar waves. The bands change color and segments of the bands disappear when an obstruction is detected. It also shows you how far away the obstruction is, in feet (or meters if you chose that mode). I know I'm not explaining it very well, but turn it on and fly up close to an obstruction to see what I am attempting to describe. Gimbal Start/Stop Buffering: As you mentioned, this makes the gimbal motion start and end gradually. Since the number is the amount of buffer (not speed), however, a higher number makes it start and stop more slowly. I turned the actual gimbal speed down first, which helped a lot, then later raised the buffering (start/stop smoothness) up to 18. I didn't like this as well because I have gotten used to controlling the "ramp" up and down speed with the button on the controller, which is actually speed-proportional to how far you move it. The added buffer was throwing my timing off, plus when you let the control back to the center the gimbal would continue to move a little further as it ramps down. As you mentioned, there are no "correct" settings - just the ones that work best for you, but hopefully my observations will help someone else get theirs dialed in. Thanks again for all your contributions!
Great vid! Nice to have a clear explanation of those icons, what they do, and a few ballpark settings that work for you! Ever consider a text overwrite where DJI releases tweaks or new functions with its firmware upgrades? Now to go watch part II. :)
As a new Mavic Pro owner I find your videos very helpful and I’m subscribing now. Keep up the good work and congratulations on your daughter’s bike ride, she looks so tender at the end of the video! 👍.
You do a great job on your tutorial videos. I have relied on them greatly to get acquainted with my MAVIC Platinum. I like your professional delivery better than others who contribute such videos. But I wonder if you ever figured out that the antennas on the RC are designed to be rotated upward, and not pulled outward as you have been doing. That is why you felt resistance. No resistance when rotated into operating position.

Thanks! And should you be so inclined, feel free to use one of the links in any of my video descriptions to purchase. You get the same price, and I get a teensy weensy bit of referral commission! :)
Thanks alot 51drone. One thing I noticed was you left IMU calibration. You have helped me so much. I saw in one of your other blogs you were going to get a Spark. Curious as to why ? I will be getting my faa107 license. Again Thank you for all your blogs and keep them coming.
Thank you for watching! I got the Spark so me and my son could fly together. We still haven't had time to unbox it, as I want to record it and make a video out of it. Hopefully soon!
Hi Russ I have watched both DJI GO4 app, I have just purchased the mavic pro 2 combination. The new smart controller, some of the features you have are no longer on the Smart controller. the major items are still included. Both your videos I was able to follow and set up my controller with the exception on the drone compass. I have to do this at a different location for safety reasons. thank you so much for these videos
great job, this is the most complete instruction on all those screen icon's/settings. recently got into drones and purchased the Yuneec Breeze (got it for $200 new so could not pass up on this deal). although I know the Breeze is more of a toy class drone, it's still packed with cool features and a blast to fly. I now want to purchase a Mavic. Question, I currently have a 4 year old android phone (droid turbo) it works fine with the Breeze, when using the Mavic will I need to switch out my phone for a recent release IPhone? if so what would you recommend? thanks for any comments.
Thank you! No, I don't think you would need to switch. Yes, it seems the Iphones have less problems when it comes to the software, but I'm pretty sure your Android would work. If not, you can always get an older Samsung Galaxy or even the Iphone 5. You don't have to put so much money into your mobile device.
I'm not a gamer, never held a controller. I have a Magic Pro, just got it. My Question is...can you slow down just a twitch? Vocabulary is new and soon it sound like the teacher on Charlie Brown. I know this will bore some of you, but you don't need this video then. Thanks so much for going back to basics most technical people forget how much they know, and skip what they deem as obvious.
Muy buen video, muchas gracias. Incluyes cosas que son necesarias y que los instructivos no cubren, saludos desde México Great video, thank you very much. You include necesary things the instructions don't . Greettings from Mexico.
Thanks for the informative video. I am two months in and 40+ flights with mine and STILL am unable to view any video....... extremely frustrating but I am a computer dinosaur and don't do well with technology. I have no problem taking or viewing still images so must learn to be happy with that and pretty much give up on any video stuff.
As to compass calibration, every time you are in new location the reminder will be there on the controller after the controller and the Mavic Pro connects.

Hey Great Job. Just got my new Mavic Air and really needed a video that walked me through the basics of DJI Go 4 app. Thanks again...

By far THE BEST beginner video I have seen for the Go 4 App. Thank You! Looking forward to Part 2
Great job! At 73yrs old I need all the refresher video's I can get.LOL.
Chuck Dugas Keep Flying Chuck.
It's not age in life its Passion.
Just got mine for my 75th Birthday ! love aircraft and photography so how does it get any better.
I'm just a spring chicken at 68! LOL. but between a motorcycle, a Mavic, Thailand traffic, and editing software, my plate is full! Happy Trails!
Chuck Dugas I love how you guys are into new tech!! That's awesome!
It's hip too!
Thanks Gerg .

Kale P Many parentless children out there looking for a loving home! Adoption or foster. And you could let them play with your new Mavic! 😁
Clear and simple way of explain! Bravo
Andres Puiggros Gracias!
Hi, thanks for yet another great video! Your videos have helped me a lot. Here are a couple things I've learned that might go toward paying it forward (just a little)...
Display Radar Map:
This enables a display that appears on your screen when you get within about 30 feet of an object in front of the Mavic.
Gimbal Start/Stop Buffering:
As you mentioned, this makes the gimbal motion start and end gradually.
Tim McGee Thanks Tim! Very helpful! See, that's why I love doing this. I learn so much from so many people!
Your videos are so helpful for this beginner. Thank you
Loving these videos. Keep them coming. I always remember your RTH suggestion when taking off. Good advice.
GREAT STUFF! 1st view & my mavic pro in coming this week I will be utilizing your page for safe & successful flights & Recordings.👊👊
If I buy a Mavic from your link do I then buy the refresh from DJI for $99?
You do a great job on your tutorial videos. I have relied on them greatly to get acquainted with my MAVIC Platinum. I like your professional delivery better than others who contribute such videos. But I wonder if you ever figured out that the antennas on the RC are designed to be rotated upward, and not pulled outward as you have been doing. That is why you felt resistance. No resistance when rotated into operating position.
Thanks for the help from a new drone owner. Really really helpful
Great video, as a newbie this helps a lot, Thank you very much, appreciated!
Great video man. FYI, my Mavic was only getting 0 - 4 satellites. I uninstalled the go 4 app and reinstalled and after I was getting 12 - 14.
I'm currently updating via the DJI assistant 2 program and hopefully after I'll acquire up to 20 once it's done.
I'm using the Samsung Galaxy S8+ phone.
Really nice job!
I'm so happy you're waking through all the settings in this app. It's a major help to all of us. Looking forward to more!
Thank you Denny! Appreciate it very much!
Good talker, thanks mate. Straight to the point.
Thanks! New owner of a Platinum. Alas used prices coming down with the new Mavic! May sell the goggles to fund more batteries etc.

Thanks for the free education, Sir.
Your video was the best I've seen on this particular subject.
I Hope you make a lot more in depth videos , and have a great summer. thank you
-patrick
Awesome tutorial for beginners. Well presented. Much appreciated, thank you
This is a must watch video for all DJI pilots! Great video brother! This is a way you can create a flight check list from.
Do you have any videos on sunshades for the DJI M2P controller with an iPhone
Awesome explained. I'm only starting now to set everything up. So it is cool 😎 to get all the information. Thank you very much.
Really good tutorial- I have about 30 flights on my MP; your tutorial helps me better understand the controller and settings. Thank you!

Thank you for the detailed explanation! much appreciated.
That was very helpful. Good job !
Thank you!
Nice tutorial. I give this to all my new drone owners.
new at the mavic pro, thanks this really helped, but sadly it just want work on my android zen phone 5, but man it works perfect on my ipad
Great video and great theme! Looking forward to Part 2. Keep up the good work 👍
Ath3rs Good drone info and congrats on your child's success.
I am a beginner so appreciate your valuable comments.
Nice Tutorial , Keep it up . Thanks
great job, this is the most complete instruction on all those screen icon's/settings. recently got into drones and purchased the Yuneec Breeze (got it for $200 new so could not pass up on this deal). although I know the Breeze is more of a toy class drone, it's still packed with cool features and a blast to fly.
You don't have to put so much money into your mobile device.
thank you for making this video. i just got my Mavic Pro and the app is a bit intimidating. the last drone i had was quicker for me to learn....
Great job, very helpful thanks very much.....
Enjoy learning ,,,,, great job
I'm not a gamer, never held a controller. I have a Magic Pro, just got it. My Question is...can you slow down just a twitch? Vocabulary is new and soon it sound like the teacher on Charlie Brown. I know this will bore some of you, but you don't need this video then. Thanks so much for going back to basics most technical people forget how much they know, and skip what they deem as obvious.
Lol! Yes, sorry, I have a tendency to talk fast. I apologize. I will try to do better. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment!
Thanks for the video. What would you look for when buying a used drone?
Great video and channel. Thanks for the great information I've now subscribed
Thanks and welcome to the channel!
Great video. Found the chalk on pavement chapter headings a little annoying though...
Ya, it was a bit much. Thanks!
I liked it
Loved this video! Did you ever release part 2?
Sort of. . .in a couple of videos.
Subscribed and liked. Thanks for the video. Helpful. Got my Mavic Pro Platinum
Thank you, from a new mavic owner
Muy buen video, muchas gracias. Incluyes cosas que son necesarias y que los instructivos no cubren, saludos desde México
Great video, thank you very much. You include necesary things the instructions don't . Greettings from Mexico.
Thank you very much and thank you for watching!
Appreciate your effort on this video, very helpful
Happy to help!
Thanks for the informative video. I am two months in and 40+ flights with mine and STILL am unable to view any video....... extremely frustrating but I am a computer dinosaur and don't do well with technology. I have no problem taking or viewing still images so must learn to be happy with that and pretty much give up on any video stuff.
go here to 1 minute 44 into video. That should get you started. ruclips.net/video/k7qXg6cnw8Y/видео.html
As to compass calibration, every time you are in new location the reminder will be there on the controller after the controller and the Mavic Pro connects.
Very very good videos for drone beginners. Subscribed 👍🏻
