I been fishing for salmon many years! And his advice is good. The worst thing is wade and ruin the water!!! I prefer cast longer wade less ! And late season switch rod is a good choice or a single hand rod 7/9# do the job awesome! For normal water I fish mostly 13-15' rod and lines float intermediate sink is always in my pocket! If you do a bad cast don't rip the line up for a new cast! Fish that swing even it my be shorter then your plan. Because as we rip lines up that disturb the fish extremely much. And as he say start fish at the surface or intermediate who fish extremely well! In early season you mostly fish sinking lines from intermediate to sink8" for some deep pools. But fresh fish don't stand at bottom they stand on the wave above bottom and I catch most fish in the middle range of water ! That's some advice from me.
