@@lizardfishingfishermen8596 because they are regarded as expert anglers when they have an average at best skill set. People immediately compare fame to skill. This has swayed a lot of new/ younger anglers from fishing for the love of the sport to fishing for likes

I'm an old guy that loves to catch an 8" trout as much as a 24" trout and still learn new ways from watching others and I started fly fishing when I was about 10 and am 66 now...you do the math I'm going fishing... Keep your videos coming, they are great. I live in NM so please tell everyone that the fishing sucks down here ... .

Practice, practice, practice! I vividly remember trying to figure it out (the haul) in a county park in NJ about fifty years ago. Then all of a sudden I got the timing of the pulls correctly and it was just so easy.
Hey Ben, I think the message you and your channel promote are fantastic! Putting info out there about the sport’s techniques, etiquette, values, and highlighting some of the flaws makes it more appealing and strengthens the future of fly fishing. The humor and humility you share in these videos keeps me going as someone who is new to fly fishing. Also, my sons love watching the videos of you fishing with the family and it inspires them (even at a young age) to get out in nature and have fun with it. Seen a few of your videos. I have to admit they aren't always content I enjoy, but this...this video gained a subscriber. Now I have to make my wife watch it so she can understand my distain for the San Juan River and the atmosphere/attitude areas like that promote.

Love to see bigger accounts like this take a stand. Make Hunting Great Again, Copper Plated Sixes, FFBI and all the meme accounts are doing the lords work but will never win over the crowd already swayed by the desire to live like the influencers. It takes people like yourself to say something to make the change needed, and it’s awesome to see

You mentioning the soque in N. Ga got me. I live in GA and my social media feed is nothing but people posting their "trophy fish".
I caught that too. I'm a transplant from the West. The new friends that I made here in Georgia constantly push me to fish the Soque for "trophy" fish. I don't have the heart to tell them that pay-per-fish places may be fun at times, but they are nothing to brag about.

I just came across your channel and you are exactly right! I've been fly fishing for a long time and on the board of Trout Unlimited but I'm just an average poor fly fisher living in R.I. and i hate this friggen vidioes of people fishing all over the world just so they can advertise products. Keep up the great content!

If I could like this a 1001 times I would. You said what a lot of people want to say. I’m just as guilty as the next person for looking through social media and felling that jealousy creep in. But, it does me no good. I love that I can share my catches or the flies I’ve created with friends and family across the world. And if I’m lucky, sell a fly or two to help pay for this addiction. I think a lot of these “top” fly fishers forget that we are in one of the smallest percentages of the outdoor world.

Dude I just want to give you a high five for this video hahaha, well said. I get quite annoyed by the people in both the hunting and fishing industry who portray themselves to be something they aren’t. Not calling any names out but as you know there are a ton of those people. I always strive to stay humble and know my place and where I am in what I’m doing.

great video! I don't have IG, so I didn't know half of this nonsense even existed. Sometimes, my favorite people to talk to about fly fishing are people who don't care about fishing, because I can blather on about this awesome lake or river that I just fished and it will just go in one ear and out the other.
Wow @4:02 that's insane shit. The influx of fishing photos I see on social media made me worried about this kind of stuff you pointed out. What a 11/10 video though about the reality of it right now.

Hey I am stuck in Cleveland. We have some pretty good. Fishing here, and close to PA trout fishing and Michigan Salmon fishing. Don’t do the gram, but keep on calling them out.

I don't follow any fishing people on IG so didn't know this was a thing. FB on the other hand has been useful in getting to know some local and regional fishing gangsters, one of which asked to go fishing with me because of a niche fishery for unicorns I'm pretty good at. That was awesome. YT has been plus and minus. I've grown tired of videos of people just catching fish. I want my time spent to result in me learning something so I can get better. So SM on balance has been good for my fishing and increasing my network of quality people and fishermen. But it's all in how you use it.

The only ppl I follow is the local fly shop. And yes I know they promote their guide service but hey they are a mom and pop shop. Plus I fish the same waters, so knowing size and type of fish exist in those waters is a win.

You know the Cleveland line got to me a bit. In a good way. From Pittsburgh and it’s hard to find that big wild or native where I’m from. Most of the better water is 2-3 hours away. Which is rough. What a great video though.
