Lucio Wall Ride Fundamentals [Outdated]

- This video shows what Lucio was like at launch. Lucio's wallriding mechanics have changed significantly and much of the information in this guide is no longer true. I've left it up for historical purposes, and because it's a video I'm proud of having made, way back when.
Thank you for watching.
The original Floor is Lava series: • Hollywood wall ride - Игры
good video. no pretentious dubstep intro, straight up getting down to information, and very useful tips on top of that. good audio balancing too, without overblown voice or effects.
thanks!
Mordecai Walfish it's a Christmas miracle
Mordecai Walfish i fucking hate those dupstep intros. so annoying
Mordecai Walfish lol i didnt know how to wall run at all with Lúcio lol
Mordecai Walfish i wanna like... But then it the number looks odd
Woah a real RUclips comment
I rock with Lucio...but fail completely at wall riding with him lol. Great tutorial video - hopefully one day I'll be able to get that dreaded achievement
what achievement
Pybread The PyroMancer There's an achievement where you need to kill 3 people at once while wall riding.
+Thomas “Copernicus Nerdicus” Torre Not at once, in one life. Slightly(?) easier. But yeah, it's horrible.
Still impossible in my mind LOL
+Thomas “Copernicus Nerdicus” Torre Getting 3 final blows while wall riding is no easy feat. Been playing Lucio for a long time and I still haven't come close to getting it.
I think I'm going to become a lucio main after seeing this
Jeremy Meyer take a look at DSPStanky
Really hoping for a wall ride gamemode or something. Seriously one of the coolest mechanics I've ever seen!
Wall ride maps could be cool.
A couple "challenge maps" in the game built around the heroes movement skills could be a really neat addition further down the line. Imagine a Genji map where there's floating enemies with like 1HP above a pit, you have to dash to them (which will kill them and reset the dash) and then do it like 3 or 4 times in a row. Kind of like homing attacks in the sonic games. Could be really cool!
Like a CS:GO surf map?
Yeah sorta, but ones focused on using and getting good at hero-specific abilities!
It would be cool if they added a map editor much like Forge in Halo. Then the community would probably make challenge maps. They'd also need to make a sandbox map for this.
Implementing a map editor would be a lot more difficult than making a handful of maps with whatever in-house tools blizzard uses, but yeah it'd be petty cool to see way down the line.
DSPStanky brought me here.
The_Lazy_Hermit SAME HAHA
same :v

who fucking cares
Doub leup We care but you dont
awesome vid. the music cutting out for that surprise part was dope too. thumbs up
Hahah, thanks, I'm glad that joke landed.
Man, back in the day this was the most influential Lucio guide.
yeah ikr
i was randomly thinking about how this channel singlehandedly got me to buy overwatch
Dude. This is one of the best insight videos and instructionals out there. Thank you for all the hard work and effort!
Finally someone made a video that explains well the fundamentals, instead of just showing off or saying obvious things. Thanks!
This guy is one of the hardcore Lucio main legends because he is the only one who has mad solid videos on Lucio's wallriding
As a Lucio main and nearly 100 hours played on him, it's useful to hear the exact specifications of how wall rides may chain or are affected by certain things, even if I had been using them! Solid work
You have no clue how fun it is to knock a Lucio down the well when he's wallriding it
DanThaMan you have no clue how stupid the people look after you just go to a different part of the wall when they try and push you down.
oh they know nara, it just makes it that much more annoying and thus creates more desire to kill you :)
Could you do a guide that shows key presses?
@S mee too so hard
I've literally been playing Lucio for a week and didn't know you could hold space to continue to wall ride. I've just been hopping from wall to wall smh. Thanks for the video!
This video was great, I never really understood the nuances of Lucio's wall ride, now I can get to all sorts of places and take all sorts of shortcuts. Feels good man.
Wow, I'm an idiot. All this time I was wondering why I couldn't wall ride... I didn't realize you had to hold the space bar.
After learning Lucio, I had that struggle with the Shimada brothers, wondering why I'd climb 1 meter and just fall back down.
Great video dude, keep it up! Looking forward to the next one!
How do you do those small clean jumps while going around towers? I find myself all too often just jumping and blasting away from the structure.
same problem here :-/
I went in a practice game to try this. It's hard to describe 'cause it involves a lot of tapping of movement keys. But it's mostly strafing in against the wall, with occasional forward and back taps to control speed. I use the speed given by wall riding to carry me around mostly, so it's largely just always turning parallel to the wall and hugging against it.
I'm going to be getting a keyboard display overlay for some future guides.
Since Lucio got his new stats I cannot wallride -he's to slippery and ..unresponsive
Corner-rides are still very much possible, it's much easier to manage now if you switch to heal right before the jump, or just aim your "exit boost" towards the wall itself, essentially nullifying it and making you able to turn the corner quickly.
It helps if you release the wallride a little earlier too, so that you hit the peak speed before you go past the corner, it makes the turn easier.
Super informative, dude. I had no idea you can't ride the same wall. I kept falling down thinking I wasn't doing it right. Thanks for the video!
God, i have to rewatch this over and over again. Not because your video makes no sense, it’s because I absolutely suck at this
The vid is from 2016 Lucio's wall ride physics are different now
I play Lúcio on console.
RIP
same :c
This stuff wouldn't be impossible on console, but you're gonna have to switch the keybindings for Lucio, specifically the jump button.
I switched my jump to L1 and that helped. try it
Ricky Flores I popped mine on to L2 since I already had that setup for Pharah (since L2 isn't otherwise used by default for her).
It's quite comfortable as a jump button once you get used to it.
Check out my last 2 videos
I'm using L3 as jump key
This is extremely awesome. Thanks, I didn't even know you can look around once you are attached to the wall.
Great guide! All of this applies to console as well. Console caveats are the "mouselook" speed is set and slower and the default jump button makes it difficult. Best advice is remapping jump to a shoulder button. This enables using both thumbsticks while holding the jump button.
This really takes me back. I don't play OW any more but this guide helped me a lot when it came out. Thanks bro.
Man, this tutorial is gold. Thanks for giving us your time bro.
200 hours on supports in Overwatch and I still didn't figure out how to ride walls with Lucio. Thank you for this.
Hey I know I'm late to the party, but thanks for the video! Just knowing a couple of the basics, or rather having someone very skillfully explain them to me, has helped me improve my own skills.
First of all, great video on fundamentals! Very succinct and informative.
I would like to point out that while it is probably easier to wallride on the PC version of Overwatch, it is definitely possible on both console versions. I myself play on xbox, and all it took was remapping my jump button to a bumper and a little bit of practice, and now I can use wallriding for both practical purposes and style jumps.
Thanks for the vids by the way. Your hollywood wall ride video was what inspired me to learn wallriding and now Lucio is my most used character :D
Keep it up!
Still one of the best lucio guides I've seen
Thanks for making this!
I thought it'd be useful to have some sort of Luci-o-vision, which would show what surfaces can be ridden and what cannot. So if there's a surface that will interrupt you while riding, it'll glow green for the most part, but red in the area it'll end your ride. The rest would be organized the same way, red for walls that can't, green for those that can. It would look kinda like some sort of developer mode, but would make it very easy to learn.
Holy crap. Sub'ed.
same
This is glorious. I thought I was decent with Lucio, but I have seen the light now.
Make sure you grab the dwarf and take him up high for excellent turret placement!
This is fantastic! Thank you for putting this together, I'll definitely be practicing a bit in empty servers after these tips. You got a subscriber sir.
Dude, you're just great. I really like this tutorial style. Keep up the good work.
i feel like overwatch's characters individually capture sub-genres or aspects of games all by themselves.
looks like lucio taps into that map exploiting terrain-glitching itch a lot of people have
Heard he's pretty much Jet Set Radio, the character.
He used to be in the GG's
Ryukachoo
Roadhog taps that ass
Thank you a lot for the tutorial man. You've inspired me to try and master this technique in the game, since I always enjoyed doing some wacky and stylish stuff.
I'm definitely going to practice this!!
Lucio is my favourite hero so far! :D
*mindblown* I thought I was a decent Lucio, but now I see I have a looong way to go. Thank you for the inspiration
Amazing job with this video, thanks a lot! I would love to see more instructional videos about wall riding with Lucio, as well as more videos for specific maps as the one you did on Lijiang Tower. Well earned sub!
Just watched your other Lucio video, and it was packed with new information. Loved it. Subbed.
For any Console players, I recommend switching Keybinds only for Lucio where his Wallride button is Pressing down on left stick, then you can Aim whilst wall riding :)
Your videos inspired me to try to main Lucio and learn how to effectively wallride :D Waiting for more useful tips!
For console, I would recommend binding jump to L1/LB so your thumb can stay on the Right Stick. Some of these tricks are difficult to pull off if you don't since you'd have to move your thumb for X/A each time. Well, unless you're clawing.
It's an adjustment switching jump to L1/LB, but it'll allow you get a competitive edge in games and, in this case, allows you to follow the PC tricks shown here.
This is fantasic as someone who loves Lucio but can't master navigating. Earned a Sub.
I just started playing Lucio, and this video was extremely helpful.
Very good explanations! I didn't know that you can't ride another wall facing the same direction, that's a very important detail, so thanks!
Also, I remapped my controls for Lucio:
Left Mouse Button - Jump
Right Mouse Button - Shoot (the original left click)
Space - "Oomph" (the original right click)
Shift - Crossfade
This way it's way easier to spam jump to climb, also you can just hold right to shoot all the time.
Other then that my sensitivity on 2000dpi is on 4.
+John Rollins that's between two walls facing the opposite direction. It's very tricky and there are not many places you can do it or where it would be practical, but it's definitely good for practice
`Teflo is talking about what happens at 1:47. Surfaces that point in the same direction can't be riden back to back. Opposite walls like hallways are fine.
One problem you might encounter is coming in too straight at the wall. To start a wall ride, you have to be moving in the direction along the wall that you want to move. If you notice at 2:43, I'm sort of whipping my mouse from side to side. What I'm doing there is strafing when I'm facing at the wall directly, so that I move backwards relative to the direction I want to be going. Then, when I actually reach the wall, I turn to face parallel to it, then hit forward until I connect.
All of this is possible on console as well, just claw hold or change your control scheme.
if you can do it on pc of course you probably can do it on console, but a controller is shit compared to a keyboard and mouse, free aiming is alot better then a controller, its faster and more accurate. Picture yourself using a controller to move around on a desktop of a comp and you'll know its not as good as a mouse. THAT'S why free aiming will always be better on a computer. This obviously includes 3rd person games that uses free-aim eg. GTA
i dont like to play lucio but this video sure as hell makes me want to play him! thanks for this amazing content
This video has inspired me to try Lucio now. Thanks for the useful tips! :)
I love playing Lucio but never use wall ride. I'll be changing that. Also, I really hate video guides but this was incredibly well done- great job! Thanks!
Okay, but knowing that thing about not wall riding on walls facing the same direction is sooooooo helpful to me as a baby lucio main
As someone who loves to play Lucio, this video shows me how much I was entirely too lazy to discover XD
Awesome vid, subbed hard. =)
Jesus.
I'm watching your streams as soon as you get that going.
What I've found out is binding a mouse scroll key to jump and then simply scrolling next to a wall, allows you to gain height very fast and wall-jump as fast as the game allows you.
woah this character is the deepest one. i thought genji was but the wallrides are just insane! endless possibilities.
Super looking forward to the Ilios video. I love a certain area for wall riding.
This is very interesting, I did a lot of rocket jumping back in TF2, and I this feels like the overwatch equivalent. Thanks for clearing up the mechanic!
Never knew about the wall direction rules. Now it all makes sense why I kept falling!!
Best wallriding vid so far - well done.
I love to wall ride but i must be near my team to be usefull :/
you can take shorter paths if you learn to wall ride better
Th3Sh1n1gam1 Yeah but i want to do something more...
I want to jump the whole game and kill xD
Practice makes perfect!
you can very likely outplay enemies with these wall jumps/climbing too since often you go over and around terrain that blocks line of sight.
thanks dude i like to play lucio, but with this video i can reach the next level haha!! . thanks you so much :)
This tutorial is amazing. After watching it, changing my controls, spending some hours practicing and the next day actually playing; In the third game an enemy said in the chat: "lmao, fucking dspstanky wannabe"
Only died once as well. That's how good this tutorial was. Not to mention that it's straight to the point with no BS.
Marvelous work.
God I love this game so much. Things like these makes it more fun.
Damn. Im glad I ran into this channel.
Dude THANK YOU! This is the video you need to start off with, you need to learn the basics before any of that other stuff.
Great video, right to the point without sounding pretentious.
Ran into a Lucio on Ilios where he wall rode around the inside of the well in the middle of the capture point forever. It was SO annoying. xD
JUSTICE RAINS FROM ABOVE
InfectedSoup if only I wasn't a terrible Phara. :C
I HAVE to try that!
lol I do that too
I wish I could ever do Lucio wall tricks. Constant 200+ ping leads to enemy teleporting, and ragdolling in any mobility abilities :(
Didn't actually know about "late jumping" though, that's good to know, as well as a bunch of other tips. Thanks for the vid.
Very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to make this for everyone!
Raising the volume on my wallriding skills... thank you! :)
Very cool. Would absolutely love to see some footage of you doing these tricks in a match
I'm still figuring out how I want to format in-game stuff, but it will happen. I prefer clips/cut up matches 'cause there's a lot of boring stuff between the cool moments, like running back from spawn when I get a little too antsy with my wall rides.
Thanks man Im new to Lucio and this is pretty educational
'what the hell...' im dying XDD
You're crazy! It's good stuff. Playing on ps4 so I've changed jump to a trigger to help me use both sticks while wall riding.
This legit helped me beyond measure, thanks for the vid man!
DRINKING GAME
1 Shot per Wall mention ^_^
sound of smooth wallriding is so damn good.
What are your keybinds? Iv seen people use the right mouse click as jump. iv tried that and it seems to cling to walls/corners/pillars much easier but it's harder to aim good shots with it that way. just wondering all the best Lucios are using that and if I should continue to try and learn that instead of spacebar for jump.
I have 3 jump buttons: Space bar, mouse wheel down, and a thumb button on my mouse. I had to rebind the thumb button to function as a second 'space' key in the Logitech software since Overwatch only allows 2 binds per action for some reason. I use all three pretty regularly.
I used right click jump WAY back in TFC and Quake, and I think it's also good. I think you should use what you're comfortable with, but having a jump button somewhere on your mouse is a good idea.
Jamie Allegro thanks for the quick reply.
Jamie Allegro can you have two jump bottens?
råsakaktus no
you can bind all actions to two keys
Started lucio with this video, managed to get diamond tier on Season 3
one of the best wall ride tutorial.. thumbs up
Great video, exactly what I've been looking for
Great vid! I'm gonna practice some of this for sure, although a lot of it is near impossible on a console with the default control mapping. There's just no way to look around while you jump with 'x'. Think I'll have to map Lucio's jump to one of the triggers or bumpers (like Pharah's boost).
Solid dude. Hope this blows up.
I hate playing Lucio because I'm awful at wall riding. Just give me Mercy and let me fly.
Can you please record gameplay footage as Lucio, it would be epic to see practical applications of those wall riding skills.
Someone please make lucio's wallride a type of game. Like BHOPPING and SURFING is what I mean. I feel like it will be a brand new way of playing a "move and go faster" game, and definitely very fun.
Brilliant, quality content!
Awesome video. Over high production quality from scene transitions to volume. The content was excellent as well!
Thank you for making this. Mind sharing what software you use to edit videos?
Thanks! I used Audacity for the audio, and Adobe Premiere for the video editing.
2:15 OMFG Overwatch with Lucio is the new Jet Set Radio Future. SWEET
Do you think you can do a video on how to use wall riding to your advantage in actual matches? Wall Riding tricks look super neat, but most of the time when you're playing Lucio you want to be around your team. Maybe some trick spots where you can surprise enemies and boop them to their doom?
My Lijiang Tower video is mainly that! My videos so far have been mainly theoretical, it's true. I hope to eventually have some videos up of me in actual games, 'cause I want to show how I decide when to go crazy aggro and use the flashy rides I show in my guides, and when to chill with my team. Also, don't forget that the aura's range is 30 meters, so you can be pretty far from your team and still helping.
Hi, I main Lucio and have about 40 Hours playtime on him now. The most effective way for wallriding - in my opinion - is contesting a point all ALONE. All maps, where you have to hold a point, that have some sort of pillar in the middle, you are able to wallride up the pillar, and then continue to wallride constantly around the top of it. Most of the enemies dont even notice you... that way you can make up a lot of time til your team is revived.
this video makes me want to practice and up my Lucio gaming more. Thanks a lot!
can you make a video including the key strokes??
I absolutely love your videos!!!!
Keep up the great work.
I wish I was good at wall riding with Lucio. Watching this makes me want to get better though! =)
right when i thought genji had the highest skill ceiling, you make this with lucio
I had no clue the wall ride had this much potential
That changes everything :D
Most ppl don't even know he could Wall Ride
Put out some more tips for Ilios or something , been practicing alot of Lucio and your videos help alot mate
Great video mate, keep it up! Subscribed and looking forward to more videos.
