Finding The Best Pub In London | Food Tours | Food Insider
this is the best series on this channel by far. Joe and harry have fantastic chemistry.
Best series on the internet.
Yeah it kinda has the same feel as Buzzfeed Worth It back in its prime. Great vibes
their hipster chemistry is about as cool as that dog turd.
Absolutely the best series. Both the hosts are super fun and chill and that makes the difference. They complement each other really well.
Wholeheartedly agree, it's not just about the food, that's what makes it great. But, at the same time, they don't always agree with each other, it's quite refreshing.
One thing I really like about these vids are that the crew in background will laugh and have a small input now and then, adds to the environment, especially in this episode in pubs you need that social aspect and that added to it.
100% agreed!
It 100% is a winning theme. I love when the crew is involved and it always makes me smile when the crew laughs.
this is literally the first video where you can hear them
Lies again? Harvard University Play Books
Fun fact about pub names in Britain - they're named things like 'The Kings Head' & 'The Black Swan' because outside there would be a painted image above the entrance on the outside.
This was done to help identify public houses (pubs) before most people were literate and could read / write. Most frequenters were agriculture / factory workers and would use the image above the entrance to identify the pub.
Alternatively, alehouses would traditionally be identified by a bough from an evergreen tree fixed above the entrance. I last saw this in Austria a couple of decades ago.
in the midlands we nickname them also, so my locals were the coach n horses (coke n snorters), the rose n crown (closing down), the travellers rest (old mans vest), the olympic (the armpit), and lastly the victoria which we call "the middle", coz its in the middle of the rest of em.
Do a PART TWO of this. Seriously, one of the best episodes so far.
I could watch them do a pub crawl. Make it a patreon episode. I'll pay.
Harry and Joe pub crawl let's go 😂
It is the inevitable conclusion of this series. The only next step could be rating each other’s weddings.
Literally they could make it a PPV.
The chemistry between Harry and Joe was great in this video. Maybe the best.
The 'magic' of the great British pub 😉
because they're both autistic and there's awkwardness in previous episodes.
Agreed. Less forced fun and more energy
It's called alcohol 😂
Agreed, I think Joe is starting to understand Harry better, specifically that he isn't necessarily showing something good or that he personally likes, but instead trying to show the most authentic/traditional/recognisable British cultural touchstones.
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!! We want more Food Tours! 🍺🇺🇸🇬🇧
Food Tours goes on Pub Crawl!!!!!😊
Maybe Joe and Harry could find the best bar in New York.
@@petershortland478 And then find the best kebab
🫡
Omg these two in any environment makes me smile. Also the more drunk Joe got the more hilarious he became! I love this series so much! Especially when Joe goes to Harry's country. Hands down the best thing in Insider Food!
I always look forward to Joe and Harry chatting on any subject! I would happily watch a pub crawl series with them!
Spent 2 years of my life studying in the UK, I visited Spoons at least once a week with my mates on Thursday for the quiz night.
Totally enjoy it!
You have no idea how much i look forward to these episodes! Thanks Joe and Harry! ❤
"Crack off with your mates in the pub" ...errr, I think you'll get barred from the pub _and_ arrested if you try cracking either them or yourself off. 😂
He may have confused the Irish phrase "a bit of craic" pronounced like crack which means a bit of fun. So he wasn't too far off I suppose.
They were so charming, they didn't let him know what it means.😆
As an Englishmen who loves America and American culture, this series is unbelievably awesome. More please! And better pubs next time! Gordon’s wine bar!? - that needs to be one it would blow an American mind! 😊
Spoons doesn't play music because Sir Tim Martin modelled his chain on George Orwell's essay "The Moon Under Water" where Orwell lists all the attributes for his perfect pub, one being "In the Moon Under Water it is always quiet enough to talk. The house possesses neither a radio nor a piano".
Plus they have a seperate chain of pubs called Lloyds No.1 that does play music...and has dance floors....they also have their own hotels.
There's a 'spoons in Manchester called the Moon Under Water.
but what is it with such kind of "People" like Elmo Muskrat, that quote Books and Storys they either never red or understood?
@@colinjames5643Wetherspoon has used the name The Moon Under Water for thirteen of its pubs.
@ebridgewater one of the spoons pubs named The Moon Under the Water is in Hayes, where Orwell lived when his first book was published, Down and Out in Paris and London.
The excitement I experience when I see a new Food Tours release is unimaginable. Somehow my favourite series on RUclips rn is a couple dudes travelling cities and finding good places to eat and drink, and it's amazing
It's not only good. It's more or less the best people's food places.
These food tours videos in London have been fantastic. Harry's research of the history of the UK and venues and Joe being mind blown at how old things are never gets boring
27:36 Harry calling Highbury & Islington a lovely area just reminds of the time that I saw two middle aged men, presumably pissed out of their minds, fighting on the floor over a bottle of Sarsons vinegar that they'd stolen from the local spoons. To cap it all off a busker outside the station decided to freestyle narrate the two men wrestling on the ground. It was bewildering and I would've stayed to watch for longer but I had a 6 a side football match to get to
most british comment ever
This is the most perfect summary of Britain ever
Fantastic 😅
After something Joe said in the 'spoons, who else just wants to see Harry and Joe go on a pub crawl?
Joe and harrys chemistry is gold, so easy to watch
My favourite pub: The Mayflower. I've made an oldest pubtour in London (for me and my friends), and loved this small, old pub.
Harry is so knowledgeable regarding places in London. It’s awesome to have background knowledge of the places you can visit. 😊
35:30 - As someone who worked in a pub in London, most of the strange requests we'd do, after clarifying about three times that is what they wanted. We'd then try whatever weird thing it was after our shifts, just to see if it actually worked or if it was just mental. The main one that stands out to me is having lager topped with pepsi, which honestly was nowhere near as bad as I expected - pretty much the same as a lemonade top haha, even if I looked at the guy who ordered it like he'd escaped from the local asylum!
I loved a snakebite - or snakebite and black, half beer, half larger and blackcurrant juice. Not many pubs do that now.
Lager and Coke is fairly common in Germany.
@@fayesouthall6604 when I was young a snakebite with blackcurrant was called a diesel.
When I worked behind the bar of a social club many moons ago someone on the pool team used to order coke and blackcurrant. I gave it a go and it tasted really like Vimto.
@@cheekychappy1234 whait until they find out about cola and orange lemonade or banana and wheat beer 🤫
All of the things British i never expected Joe to bring up Garth Merenghis Darkplace
22:45 fun fact about half pints, my dad worked in a lot of pubs and you can tell a landlord is an alcoholic as usually they will be drinking half pints to make it seem they aren't drinking as much
Until relatively recently in Scotland, there was a whole section of society (mainly working class men, though by the time I was working behind a bar in the mid 90’s they were mostly retired) who would buy a single half pint of beer to last their entire visit and would order however many whiskys to sip and once the got down to the last of their whisky, they’d pour the last few drips into their beer. This was my Granda’s way of drinking in a pub and I can only say that in the thirty odd years we shared this planet, I can only really remember him being properly drunk once…though my brothers will have seen it far more often due to Burns Suppers mainly.
Harry had a glint in his eye talking about Oily Jonnie's. "Jonnies" has another meaning in the UK.
Exceptional banter. Love these guys.
Love the crew laughing in the background. Epic!
I love the vids that do this. Jolly involves the crew a lot.
I never commented, but I always love the food tours and see the dynamics of Harry and Joe, and them doing a pub crawl just shows the dynamic at it's best as just them just chatting in a bar as if it's they're not doing this for a show and it's amazig
YAAAAS!!! I was coincidentally on a binge watch of the previous food tours, and then this pops up on my feed…! Imma definitely watch this after work! 🤩🤩
Anytime a new episode comes out, I stop everything and watch.🎉
Aye
the best series on this channel!
Was NOT expecting Harry to wear a Miami Dolphins jacket, but I love it.
Fins up! 🤘
Right? I don't watch Football much now, but the Dolphins are my squad if I ever did again.
This was an amazing episode of an amazing series!!
These are great, I love the dynamic between you guys.
His face was hilarious watching him open the bag of crackling. it's like he witnessed him kick a child.
Really love this series
Great series. Hope for a bunch more!!!!!
Love these vids guys! ❤
New Food tours, let's go!
Truly excellent episode
This has got to be the video I've liked the most from you 2, great concept and some quality chat later on after a few beers. Get the series going and your arses into Bucket of Blood and Oily Johnnies 🤣
Finally, something I do look forward to doing in the UK
We need a part 2!!!
Love the videos chaps! Educated my now 10 year old on Food Wars
Wicked funny episode guys!
Harry and Joe Content is the best content!
3:00 This is so accurate. I’ll be moving in the next 6 months and moving too far away from my local is a genuine concern, it’s quite sad really 😂
This is a nice vid. Joe and Harry's charisma makes it feel like I'm chatting there with them laughing along.
Another legend episode, lets keep them going. !!!!!!!!
Do Part 2 - Best Soho Pubs. The French House, The Shaston, The Old Coffee House, The Coach & Horses, The Three Greyhounds, The Lyric, The Devonshire.
London has some amazing old pubs. In fact the whole UK does, but sadly many of them have closed.
Stunning content
Keep it up gang
You guys need to extend this tour to see more of what the UK has to offer.
I love you taking your American friend to food places. I'm from Scotland, nopesorry
This was brilliant
Joe and Harry are by far the stars of this channel. Not to throw shade, but the chemestry is undeniable. I find their interaction tours riviting.
Do a part 2 please and Harry and Joe have great chemistry and banter
best series and episode
Another fun, interesting video, always friendship and fun.
The Hope & Anchor Islington is in music history books, my fave pub in London, really should have gone there also the Florist in Bethnal Green is fabulous 🌟
Pommeler's Rest is great, even for a Spoons!
Great episode 🙌
Best series!
Loved the video! I was a little disappointed the Spoons breakfast wasn't reviewed. Awesome stuff though, thanks so much.
Maybe it was and that’s why it wasn’t included!
When I was 16 yr old (1982), my Father brought home a Scotch Egg and then later on Steak n Kidney Pie. It was his employee meal made by an English Chef at Hyatt Hotels. I loved it, especially the Scotch Egg.
The Surprise in Chelsea after much research, is my favourite pub in London. Food’s great. Atmosphere is low key. Beer is well kept. Service is friendly. No big chain vibe. About the right size. Good Sunday lunch. I know you are thinking - Chelsea? Really? It’s not Chelsea at all.
The way they were laughing in the end -- all that beer got to them haha!
These two make a lovely team.
London has some amazing pubs thats full of rich history.
I went to have a drink at a pub in Soho called 'The Dog & Duck' which was once frequented by George Orwell!
That rich history is being diluted due to the immigrant population in London unfortunately
@@Farquad76.547 don't be a sausage

@@BigScubes you don’t look the type able to comprehend what I’m talking about. You keep thinking about those sausages you’re necking.
I never thought that was unique about looking for a house and thinking is there a good pub near by. I literally decided on buying my house rather than another on the fact the one I bought was in a village with a lovely pub at the end of the road 😂😂
so many more pubs to visit but great video!
Another brilliant extra long episode! Fantastic guys, keep em coming
Why am I not surprised that Harry lives in Islington? This is a great series. Harry and Joe work so well together.
Best duo
Amazing videos as per usual Joe & Harry!! 🙌
My personal favourite pub is called The Grenadier near Hyde Park!! MUST GO for round 2!! Small pub, best Fish & Chips I’ve tasted, and……. there’s something interesting on the ceiling!! 🤔
Go and find that out yourself!! 😉
would love to see more of this, part 2 would be great
Jamaica Inn AKA the jam pot...Cheshire Cheese...top places
Nice to see cask ales represented, they're some of the best the UK has to offer
I love this tours in UK and US.
Fantastic to see another one of these 😊 I order a half as a woman, my husband sometimes does too. He’s not a big drinker.
Love a new Harry n Joe
The fire of London was on the other side of the river !
Great chemistry!
Great vid, as always… The best pub in London is the Crown Tavern, in Clerkenwell Green… Hands down 👍🏻
That shot walking through that tunnel with the hood up looks like he is walking out for a boxing match😂
The pub crawl we needed 😂
The Horseshoe in Clerkenwell, proper local vibe, landlord owned. Great for darts, do Great pies and is used in lots of films/tv such as Gangs of London.
Love the videos guys. Greene King beers are brewed in Norfolk. The George beers will be labelled for the pub not brewed especially. Its a 'house beer' as they say. Use the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for most successful wanders! George Orwell's piece for the Evening Standard was called The Moon Under Water.
You mean Suffolk, right? I passed the brewery in Bury St Edmunds on the way to work a lot. I'm pretty sure if the locals found out the company moved to Norfolk, they'd burn the place down 😂
Representing Kent!
Try some Washington ciders. Like Schilling, their Excelsior is 8 or 9%abv ciders but they taste amazing.
Love it pint 3 slightly slurry
You guys have only been together for a year? Brilliant! You should have your own channel.
UK Scrumpy preferably cloudy/unfiltered is worth trying....has a lot more flavor
These two need a live pub show going across the country.
i love food tours
Old Bank of England pub has cool features inside and a double decker bus in the beer garden.
Just love when you guys are doing videos in your citys :) thx!
I’m sure it has already been mentioned that Charles Dickens had 10 children! Love this channel and love the banter between Harry and Joe. I worked in Ely Place, Holborn, which has one of the oldest pubs in London, Ye Olde Mitre (down an alley in Hatton Garden), you can’t fit more than ten people in the bar down stairs, but does have another level, oh the memories 😂
gotta go to some end pubs in a part 2!
"Ye olde" or specifically "Ye", is a misrepresented spelling. There was a letter called 'thorn' which looked similar to a Y but the pronunciation was 'th'...so anytime you see 'Ye' it actually means 'the'.
