My goldfish (a veil-tail comet, I think) enjoys playing with moss balls. Another plants in her tank are emersed lucky bamboo, fully grown dwarf water lily, and water hyacinth. All doing nicely. Very tempted to try some bolbitis if I can find one!

I just got 2 crinums and 2 Java ferns from you guys for my goldfish tank and I put them in easy planters so they won't be messed with. There is some melting on the crinum after several days as expected, but I can't wait to see it grow overtime!
Tried all of these in the past and the crinum was the only survivor, the moss balls were a disaster they destroyed them and there was moss ball throughout the tank. I've had success with vallisneria gigantea as it grows quickly and they don't seem to like the taste!

I was able to intervene and save my moss balls when they started picking at them, but all my java ferns were uprooted or eaten, my amazon sword and micro sword were both chewed down to the roots, and all my hornwort and bacopa vines were picked barren. I'll give those two plants a shot. If they don't work, there's always room in my other tanks.
A lily pad plant is pretty good plant as well people always think they should only be in ponds but they look good in aquariums too and they have thick stems that wont get eaten just tie down roots like other plants
I never cared for goldfish before, especially the "modified" ones. However after watching your videos I have become fascinated with them. In particular I enjoy the black and white (lion Head?) swim and feed.loveable little guy.
The leaves may be bigger and thicker but they will.end up cutting through the stems. My large coffeefolias anubias were torn apart after a few days. My buce and smaller anubias just disappeared 😢. I think the only good plants are Val's. They don't seem to like the taste of it, specially the corkscrew Val's.

Sir i get an internal filter with air flow and that one sucks all poop of my goldie and cleans the tank bit i always changes 30% water every weak. I don't have any substrate in the tank so that's easy to clean. 😄
I had terrible results putting zucchini in my goldfish tank (for my pleco). They loved it. and then they ate it. And then they realized they could eat my Anubias and they won't stop x.x . The tank was established with these fish over a year before they met the zucchini and moved their palette to the plants lol

Just jam a ton of hornwort in your tank. The goldfish will have plenty of fun foraging for and nibbling every tiny little crumb stuck within its leaves. Since hornwort just floats in the water; no worries about it being uprooted; it's a floating plant. It looks grate, when a bunch of it's, in the tank.

If you are from around there, I may purchase some fish from you and they can bring them down.. I would buy one of those battery powered air pumps and have it shipped to them before and they should make it down with no problems.. My goldfish have moss balls and mouse ear plant. So far so good. I feed them cichlid excel and omega one gold fish food. They seem to prefer the food. They've demolish the odd moss ball. I hear java moss is ok so I might try grow it on some type of mesh and stick it in with suction cups. My problem is looking at my tank it reminds me of a swimming pool look.

I found that if you get a thick enough mat of moss they can't destroy it. They love trying to rip it up but they usually aren't strong enough I have them in a 75 and its filled with moss.
I bought my goldfish from Petco, the tank said Comet goldfish. I shared my fish to a Facebook group... everybody screamed at me!!!! They are common... Not Comet !!! Lol Only one has a longer tail fin, the other four have a shorter tail. Body types all look the same. The coloring on them is a little bit different two are more gray looking... one of the orange ones had a lot of black that's all turns orange and one of the orange ones is turning white. Anyway, in one of your question-and-answer videos... you said common and Comet are the same! The group I'm in seems to think that shortround tells our common and anything that has a longer fancy flowing tail is a comet. The research I did doesn't really specify!? Could you do a video just on the differences and or there's No difference!?! Lol

@@ST62382right I probably should've said why i asked... Why keep it in a sump? The point of having it is to see it right? It isnt a plant that filters well/really at all due to its slow growth. Why put it in a sump when you can put it in a tank where you will see it. You can keep moss balls in small bowls and it looks good, you can find pics online. Can you easily see your sump when looking at the main tank? Do you keep other plants in the sump? Would you be willing to get a light for the sump? Essentially, how is your sump set up?

Currently there in a bare bottom 5.5 gallon with a little castle, but I know they're gonna get MUCH bigger. For me, moss balls were a disaster. They kept picking at them until they started to flatten out, and they clogged my filter. I do not recommend moss balls personally.
Master Markus salt’s actually the original fungicide/antiseptic/antiparasitic for fish keeping. A lot of countries don’t let you get OTC meds for fish, and salt works very well for a lot of things. Java fern is supposed to handle it very well. Also I’m finding water sprite is handling small amounts of salt in the water just fine (I have a semi brackish water fish and so I tend to dump small bits from the brine shrimp hatchery into that tank without rinsing it at all)
I've seen so lany people recommend moss balls for goldfish. But I've seen rip a chunk out of them. So I've got them separated from the fish along with the rest of the plants.
I have 5 common goldfish, the biggest is about 6 inches long, and they've eaten every plant that I've ever put in their tank. Fighting algae is tiring, so I'm looking for plants they won't eat. I'll give those ones a try.
@@Vesdus id get an echinodourus that’s got tough leaves and an already good root system and possibly weight them down or place between hardscape. They’ll probably still pull some up but they work with mine. If you want to check out one of my tanks, not the goldfish, search tropiczen jungle tank

Another I would suggest is Pythos quick growers and suck up nitrate well. They also don’t need a lot of sun

Vallesneria I'd imagine would work well. They have thicker leaves, big roots, and are longgggg.

Usually they won’t jump out. Not impossible but usually only happens if they get spooked.

Cabomba does really well with my goldfish.

No but it's better with it. You can also use sand (I do in my tropical tank). It needs a lot of washing first but looks nicer.

Yes, pretty much all aquarium plants prefer room temps vs the tropical temps we keep them at.

vallisneria does well in my goldfish tank. The only other one of those I've tried, was Heteranthera, and the fish ate it entirely.

Why do you have to dose your tank with salt? I've never heard of that being necessary for freshwater tanks.

@@Vesdus id get an echinodourus that’s got tough leaves and an already good root system and possibly weight them down or place between hardscape. They’ll probably still pull some up but they work with mine. If you want to check out one of my tanks, not the goldfish, search tropiczen jungle tank
