I still can't get over how detailed and realistic they made the ground foliage and especially all the moss look! I can't even begin to imagine how much work it must have been to craft such a vast and varied, but always organic looking world at such a level of detail and fidelity. Truly a masterpiece!
Yeah the detail down to the scale/level of individual trees and tiny pieces of dirt is staggering; the ground detail/LOD draws in as far as you can see and the textures are so insanely detailed/high resolution. Looks like something running on a very high end PC. Extremely massive/open but looks stunning at the smallest scale also. The textures pop like crazy in 4k
Excited to play this on the PC. For Horizon Zero Dawn, there was a big difference in facial animation and texture quality for many characters in the base game vs. Frozen Wilds. I wonder if we will observe the same for Horizon Forbidden West and Burning Shores areas.

Very closely followed by demons souls remake
Pathtraced Cyberpunk beats it obviously.
@@ihebmhamdi3451 I agree, but that doesn't even count as "this gen" because you can't just buy a $400 device and run that path tracing game like you can run horizon on PS5. A Pc that runs that game costs waaaaay more
Decima Engine continues to impress me more than any other engine. UE5 looks nice, but I wouldn’t fault Sony if they decided to go all in on this engine.
DF you need to seriously turn up the sound mix of your videos. They are so much quieter than other channels and ads.
5:21. Oh my goodness. Look at how much better it look than the base game. That is sweet stuff right there 👌
7:53 The Night time shot with Aloy is fire 👍🏼
Guerrilla Games engine could teach a thing or two to the unreal engine. I’m just shocked out how good this game looks and runs while the unreal engine struggles on games. I could only imagine if all open world games used this engine. What a great every game could be.
I mean you are talking about unreal engine 4...which was made 11 years ago. Ue5 is vastly upgraded and we have not seen what is possible yet
@@MrInuhanyou123 UE5 is too demanding. Only impressive looking game so far is Fortnite
@@vandammage1747 the only game out so far with UE5 is fortnite. So I guess they’re doing great on that front.
@@MrInuhanyou123 I hope you are right. Because as of late every unreal engine 4 games are having massive performance issues... Dead Space stutters, Hogwarts stutters with frame rate issues(its gotten a lot better recently) and now the new star wars game has performance issues. I just see how well optimized this engine is and it blows me away.
I'm curious how The Witcher 4 will turn out (using Unreal 5).
Looks phenomenal. I'm looking forward to play it upon finishing the main game. Horizon is one of the best video game series out there but unfortunately somewhat underrated. Great work Oliver, I enjoy your content a lot.
god damn how incredible this game engine is, it has nothing to envy from unreal engine 5
Looks better than UE5 tbh. UE5 is overhyped 1080p30 engine
@@vandammage1747 ue5 is amazing, i'm actually developing stuff on it, but the fact that horizon forbidden west looks so good that almost looks like a pre render, is something i haven't seen in games so far, no even pc games
@@NicolasSilvaVasault yeah it's good for visualization but not games unless you're on a rtx40 and a very capable cpu which is a minority.
Decima, RE engine, id tech etc will be more impressive
It just goes to show that a good enough in-house engine can easily compete with Unreal Engine 5. THat's one of the positives of Sony.
Ue5 and decima show games still have a lot to give
It's totally mind-blowing. A must have. I'm lost in it. Don't miss out. 💯💯💯💯
Agreed. The scale and size of the final boss fight was truly breathtaking. I imagined this would technically not be possible on PS4.
When you point out that the clouds don't move but you'd only notice in a timelapse, I'm like "well, not now that you pointed it out! Now I can't look at them without thinking they're static!" That line shoulda had a spoiler warning on it 😂. Gave away the secret to the magic trick and spoiled it!
Because there's no tone of voice in text, the above is light hearted and in jest. Have a lovely day!
There is an optional little fight/side mission with a storm bird on a small island that may have blown me away even more than the final boss, the amazing weather/storm effects combined with chasing it through the clouds with lightning flashing everywhere, to it shooting you out of the sky to come crashing down and right into a boss fight while the storm still rages was INSANE. I couldn't believe the game was still running at 60 FPS smoothly while this madness was happening. This scene and the final machine boss are probably the most technically impressive set pieces I've ever seen in a game I couldn't believe my eyes and the fact that it wasn't running on a 4090 PC but a PS5. Guerilla are TRUE tech wizards, and the game isn't just eye candy, it's just as impressive artistically and has great gameplay
6:54 "a kind of scale that's reminiscent of the older God of War games" - THANK YOU. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when I've seen modern games and thought, "....God of War on PS2 felt bigger..."
Maybe someday we will see one game like this on "the most powerful console"
Hahaha!
30fps give you twice as long to admire each frame. Checkmate
Let's not forget they changed it to "the most powerful Xbox"
Don’t get your hopes up. There are PS4 titles that look better than anything on XBox.
Easily the best looking game of all time. And an absolutely amazing blast to play!
That's a stretch. Perhaps the best looking console game and amazing what the developers can do on rather limited hardware but Plagues Tale Requiem on a high end pc looks better. True 4k 60fps, more realistic textures, less pop in ......
@@LeeLee-fi7mx oh no, it's not true 4K. Like my eyes care. Also completely different games, Ill wait until I can fly through clouds in Plague Tale
@@LeeLee-fi7mx it has true 4k 40 fps and 1800p 60 fps so I don't give a F u can cope because it not on you trash PC
@@LeeLee-fi7mx Plague Tales is a very bad comparison. Probably The Witcher or Red Dead with tons of mods on high end PC can look and move similarly or a tad bit better.
But standard, nothing is close to this.
Pathtraced Cyberpunk is ahead of it. It's a remarkable achievement in videogame graphics.
Now i see why MS thinks it can't compete with Sony in-house studio's...Outstanding!!
i really like the lighting around the character, it's not realistic but something you often see in cgi cutscene and movies
We need more John Linneman PSVR2 videos - those were hilarious especially with the rest of the crew commenting on it!
Well said Ollie, loved HFW:BS, it was good on so many levels, just simple things like flying around exploring are really enjoyable and complemented by a great sound scape.
The Clouds remind me of the Killzone 2 and 3 clouds.
3:57 We see you Jean Jacket you ain't slick
In the next DLC, Aloy gets the Oprah Shot
I don’t get the joke
@@JamieRobert_it’s from the movie Nope.
@@JamieRobert_ it's a reference to the movie "NOPE"
Haha love that joke
This is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful.
The visuals are incredible! Can’t wait to play it on my 120 Hz tv.
Shame it does only 30 fps on 4k.
@@insatiateire4784 *4k 40fps and 1800p 60fps with an vrr hfr mode up to 80/90 fps. Stop nitpicking, it's making you look very desperate lmao 😂
@@bryankowalczyk3982 sniff less copium.
At 6:44 I will simply say without spoiling - "you've probably waited like me for 6 years and 2 games to experience this moment ... savor it."
the 120/40 mode is really awesome in this game!
I still can't get over how detailed and realistic they made the ground foliage and especially all the moss look! The game is just such a visual feast at all ranges and full of stunning geometry and textural details everywhere, making all sorts of materials look just right. And don't even get me started on all the various weathers and atmospheric simulation in the diverse biomes!
The Decima engine is insane, seriously, Death Stranding and Horizon are mind blowingly beautiful on a big TV
Excited to play this on the PC. For Horizon Zero Dawn, there was a big difference in facial animation and texture quality for many characters in the base game vs. Frozen Wilds. I wonder if we will observe the same for Horizon Forbidden West and Burning Shores areas.
Watching videos for pc ports lately then seeing videos for the same game on the PS5 or its exclusives really make me just wanna get a ps5 instead of upgrading my pc. 😅
I say go for it, you won't regret it. Love my PS5
Exactly what I did and haven't looked back.
Love how detailed the reviews of DF are 🍻
So what you’re telling me a open world game can be this pretty and still have a performance mode up to 80fps but xbox can’t give me redfall at 60 fps delay redfall or im about to switch to playstation
There are doll-like characters in Redfall!
They consume a big chunk of 12 TF!
Hahaha!
Also tempest audio is insanely accurate
Can't wait until Andrew Schneider's next presentation on cloud rendering. Nearly an entire career dedicated to cloud rendering in movies and games. Insane.
Really wish this was in a Motorstorm game instead.
It's basically why I never bought a PS4/5, because the style of games they want to make don't align with what I want to play.
The fact that this ps5 exclusive DLC looks this good only makes me more excited for the next installment. Guerrilla Games are technical geniuses, Horizon 3 is going to look incredible!
Those clouds look unbelievably good.
Might be the best Single player DLC if seen in a while, you even get more fidelity
It's a joy to see a well-optimized game that takes advantage of current-gen hardware. While the recent AAA blunders of badly optimized games have been multiplatform efforts/PC ports, it's a breath of fresh air to see a release that performs and plays well from the get-go. Also, Guerilla's in-house engine is a fantastic sight to behold in a landscape filled with UE games.
What an achievement!
Considering the technical context of the industry, this game is a masterpiece.
Come at me!
Those clouds really look like some excellent distance field ray marching
This is solid proof that the 2013 consoles are holding us back in a major way.
Too bad AC Mirage is still cross gen
And Series S
10 year old laptop hardware keeping us hostage
AC Mirage? did you mean trash?
wow, those clouds. I once sat through a Siggraph cloud rendering back in 2002, it's amazing to see this running real time.
This game show so freaking good it’s crazy
Other than the clouds not moving (which is giving me Nope flashbacks), this is the best graphics I've seen in a game.
Wow! This looks great, imagine how the true next generation PS5 games will look like, upcoming games such as "Wolverine" will look even better than this
My jaw dropped. Abso-f-lutely amazing visual. Why aren't many talking about this game?
And how could they dramatically improve already impressive visual. We are fortunate to have talented dev like Guerrilla Games.
Best looking game on any platform so far.
Crysis looks EONS better.....
@@Cricis11700put the pipe down grandpa
It just shows what the next gen platforms can achieve in the hands of a skilled dev team. Incredible visuals for a machine that now offers a humble amount of graphical horsepower in comparison to the latest desktop gpus, and a steady 4k 30fps to boot.
Current gen. Ps5 = 2 years 5 months and 7 days 🥲.
I want to see a mashup video where this one dovetails into Redfall or Starfield’s inevitable tech breakdown, complete with sad trumpet fanfare.
*Wah, Wah, waaaaaaaah*
I'm a PS guy, i gave my PS4 aways cause I barely touched it, but man do I wanna play Horizon, its looks amazing! Perhaps in the future i get a PS5 to enjoy this masterpiece of a game.
Played on performance mode as 30fps doesn't cut it for my old eyes but this expansion is awesome loved the setting and wow what fun it was.
Now, this is cloud gaming I can get behind⛅
Thing is, even the base map looks better also after patch 1.21. Decima engine is one of the best engines seriously!!!
Who's readying the popcorn for DF's Star Wars Jedi Survivor coverage?
Not me ✅
At this point I'm just worried for Alex's sanity
Yep, just cancelled my pre order. I want the game, but will wait for the 500 patches to fix performance.
Jedi survivor is a good game but graphically its not mind blowing especially considering its a current gen title. Horizon Forbidden West on the other hand is a last gen title and still manages to look impressive while being an open world game
@@ajdaniel8128 who?
When you guys were gushing over The Callisto Protocol's face models and saying they were the best, I remember thinking you all must've forgotten Aloy's face in FW. She still has the most impressively detailed face I've ever seen in a game.
The only issue I have with FW's visuals is the overbearing hero light. It's just as bad as ever. There should be an option to turn it off. That's the one area where the last gen version has a leg up.
Facial animation and models are also hugely impressive in Hellblade tbh
I played in 40FPS mode on my LG Oled. I really want that 40FPS mode in every game, it feels so smooth compared to 30, in my opinion the difference between 30 and 40 feels much more than 40 vs 60.
Law of diminishing returns
You get more than 60 if your TV support VRR.
@@insatiateire4784 It does support VRR but i like that combination of quality and frame rate in balance mode, i have played God of War Ragnarok and Ratchet & Clank Rift apart in 40fps mode too and its the best for me. The only game i played in 60fps+ mode was Modern Warfare 2.
60 is better in every way, actually 60 is SLUGGISH, 120FPS should be the new standard.
@@Cricis11700 ok kiddo
Wish DF would raise the volume up a bit on their videos.
