Being inside that Whales belly with the water rising over your head, or that beachside boogie stage more importantly were the jaw dropping stand outs imo!
They definitely need to port it over and take advantage of the VR2's higher resolution, 110d FOV, it's revamped OLED display with it's true blacks, higher brightness & greater colours etc. And hopefully they can get it running at 120fps instead of 60 being reprojected into 120. The latter cause motion or character doubling, and just doesn't look natural or move realistically.
Pretty sure if a VR game on VR2 runs at 120fps the motion doubling goes away.

Leuk spel goed verhaal. Mooie graphics.
    No man sky:

When I played Star Wars A New Hope blu ray (another benefit btw as Quest and PCVR don't play blu rays) on old PSVR, I was transported to being a mesmerised six year old boy at the cinema when the star destroyer swept overhead in the opening scene...I felt the same sensation that I never felt again when watching the movie on TV or even the cinema re-releases. PSVR cinematic mode gives a personal big screen sensation. With PSVR2, I expect the experience to jump a whole new level...but sadly, I will miss the 3D blui ray playback that I enjoyed on PSVR/PS4 console. With more games, a real question mark, and pc support, whether official or community based, this seems like a big win in as a hardware product.
Sony is in a tough position where they can only 'force' so much software to be on PSVR 2, and the rest would theoretically come from good sales of the hardware...which likely sells better with software support.

I'm pretty lanky and tall and when I had the Samsung Odyssey, which used HMD-mounted cameras to track the controllers, I found the field of tracking to be very substandard, frequently losing tracking unless the controllers were in a fairly centered spot (a smaller area than the FOV of the display); this caused problems in a variety of games, and the system did not deal elegantly with loss of tracking and the reacquisition of tracking, the result being guns or hands or shields or whatever that would constantly "snap" back into place.
    It was terrible.
I haven't actually used any system with this type of controller tracking since then -- no Quest, etc. I know this system has four cameras (or more?) vs. the two that the Odyssey had, but I'm still weary of this issue, especially at the $1K+ price (including PS5) that this would entail for me. Lighthouse on the original Vive and the original Vive Pro was absolutely flawless for me, never losing tracking no matter where my hands were.
The best solution I've heard of was I think on an upcoming Quest Pro where the controllers THEMSELVES have inside-out tracking (hint: on the PSVR2 the HMD uses inside-out, so we say the system is inside-out, but in reality the PSVR2 controllers are tracked OUTSIDE IN). That is, the Quest Pro controllers contain their OWN cameras. It would be the first TRUE markerless inside-out tracked system where all three components (HMD + each controller) actually track themselves rather than being tracked by something external to them. PSVR2 and existing Quest are actually hybrid inside-out + outside-in systems.
Anyway, I may try to get a demo of PSVR2 because my fear is that a similar frustrating tracking loss flaw will befall it.

Honestly, I don't think VR necessarily needs massive amounts of games. What it needs is "killer apps", Games that are so amazing that you will go back to hem, over and over again. I have played ~600hours on my Reverb G2 and I have spent most of my time with Half Life Alyx + mods, Beat Saber, Skyrim VR + mods, and Assetto Corsa... even after 3 years, I am not tired of these four games. For PSVR2 I think the current "killer app" is actually Grand Turismo 7, a game like that really has infinite replayability if you love racing. No Man's Sky can probably also be a killer app as I can see a lot of people on Steam having 500+ hours invested. Games like these only become more engaging in VR and preferably if you play with other people and have a great time together!

Hardware wise it literally checks everything I've wanted from a VR headset. Foveated rendering and Eye tracking being the most niche parts of my list. Foveated rendering seemed like a no-brainer for performance to be and EYE TRACKING is a GAME CHANGER. It looks so natural to be able to navigate menus and gameplay scenarios with by using sight to inform intent; way better than awkwardly trying to point your whole head at a giant menu button, instead boxes can be very small and you still maintain extreme precision with your selections.

The review i was waiting for! Ty for the amazing review John, i knew you would be gushing about the OLED HDR screen, it seems to be trully impressive coming from you knowing how finicky your tastes are haha. Graphics in Horizon look amazing for a VR game, its a shame that you did not get games like RE8, Kayak VR or GT7 during the review process though.
Dualsense controllers are such a big leap over Move controllers, if you come from PSVR1 then you will finally feel what proper VR controllers feel like and it seems the haptics really add to the immersion although i would have liked you better described the sensation for the headset haptics, can they simulate say rain in your head? From the official tech breakdown the haptic motor on the headset seemed to me like a classic rumble motor from old, maybe im wrong.
Only complain i have John is that you complained about the price a bit too much imo, at least i would have liked you put into perspective the price and features of the headset with actual PC VR competitors. I also feel you missed talking about the game lineup from the perspective of someone new to VR (this is actually something a lot of reviewers fail to do).

    • @xiaolinstyle
      @xiaolinstyle Год назад +8

Same here, the tech vs price point is a VALUE and when compared to similar quality headsets a STEAL. The PC headsets that match PSVR2 are over a GRAND!

  • @RurouTube
    @RurouTube Год назад +5

The problem with making it compatible with PC, at least for now, is that... what is in it for Sony? You look at other VR headset pricing and the ones with similar features are more expensive, thus while I doubt they take a loss from every unit, but they probably don't take a lot of profit from selling it. They obviously want PSVR2 to draw people into Sony ecosystem or at least buy more software from the PS store.
What can happen I think in the future if it ended up stagnating, then they should open PSVR2 to PC because at the very least they can make a bit more money and at the same time hoping for some people that purchase it for PC use only will end up buying PS5.

I’ve heard about some technology developed recently that somewhat easily enables stereoscopic 3D display of 3D world games that were originally designed for a traditional 2D TV screen. Essentially a second camera is placed in game as the player’s other eye.
The tech was developed to bring more content to glasses-free 3D screens - however I can’t help but think it would be so cool and probably not too difficult to implement the same thing in the cinema mode for PS VR2.
It would be a nice value add for PSVR 2 and would increase the benefit of playing traditional games not designed for VR - with the headset over a traditional TV.
Perhaps some games for PS VR 1 kind of had a similar feature (you are in the world in a third person view- rather than looking in) - but I’m thinking the implementation might be better suited to cinema mode at more of a system level (viewing 3D through a virtual screen). The reason being - less risk of nausea/increased play comfort.
Curious if others may see value in this as well.
