Nice to see a review of budget equipment that's well made. Thanks!
I just bought one. You can take off the handle and add a spacer to make it thicker and a little more stylish as a little project.
I'll take a roughly finished full tang over a rat tail any day. Mora is a wonderful starter and an amazing company overall, just bought one for my niece as a Christmas present and I own several myself (including the Companion). Next year I will buy her a BPS Companion copy as an upgrade. Full tang is ALWAYS an upgrade from a rat tail. BPS is doing an excellent job of providing an excellent product at an excellent PRICE POINT from a country OTHER THAN CHINA. Remember, when you are doing your reviews you are DIRECTLY affecting people trying really hard to carve out a living and provide jobs to a region that was crushed by 50 years of communism. 50 years is a long time. They are still trying to dig themselves out. Ease up on the casual negative criticism of emerging brands from "newer" markets. This brand has amazing potential, provided it isn't crushed by click-bait driven pre-determined reviews. Nope, I don't work for the Company.
By the way, if you (as in yourself, with your own company and employees) think you can produce a better product at the same price point, I would love to see it.
The one knife that breaks this rule is the Hultafors GK… that thing is seriously indestructible and is not full tang. Although the tang is at least the same length as the blade I believe. And the way they set it into the handle + the plastic they use reinforces it and gives it extra strength. I have never in my life seen someone break one of these beyond chipping a tiny piece of the tip off with EXTREME use. Seriously search up the hultafors GK on RUclips I promise you will be impressed.
Ukraine was the biggest beneficiary of the Soviet Union, lol. Ukrainians controlled the politburo after the death of Stalin till the dissolution of the Union.
Good option for people that aren't thrilled with "plastics" in general or a nice low budget option that doesn't scream budget or cheap...leather sheath and wood scales? A nice new gear image booster imho. Or just an excuse to buy a knew knife that won't break the bank in these trying times!
Oh man you are right! Just ordered the bps hk 1!40 euros man...cannot go wrong!
I love taking mora blades and putting my own handles on them 😳
Yes.... But if you want a knife that will hold up and don't mind plastic the Mora robust is the best, I've used one for awhile and never let me down.
I have 4 BPS knives. They haven't let me down yet.
Ordered two different style BPS knives and received them today, put them to the test and was surprised on how durable they are. I’ve used Mora companion, Condor bushlore and the LT Wright Genesis, not even gonna lie…..the BPS is kinda my new favorite over those others. Budget knife or not it performs as well as the higher end knives. The only downfall was the fit and finish but for the cost I did not mind putting about 30 minutes of work into it to perfect it for my hand. I’ve had to adjust the finish on the condor and genesis for my hand so, all in all….it’s a great knife. As far as the sheath, didn’t like the drop style and the leather was very dried out. Some Dutch oil and heat made it better for sure but would rather have the belt loop on the mid back of the sheath.
I bought the BS3FTS and it's great. Just like a Mora but full tang which is what I wanted.
The sheath is very nice and as bonus you can turn the knife around for a left-hand carry.
It fits perfectly.
Awesome content bro. Definitely a starter knife for the boy scouts. And a full tang knife with leather sheath under 50$, it's unbelievable. Keep going. ✌️
What you're calling lip on the handles might be a simple matter of unscrewing the scales, lining them up more precisely, holding that alignment while screwing them back down. That was the case with my BPS, full tang, bushcraft knife. After doing that, there was no overhang anywhere on the handle.
I have one of the Full Tangs and it's a fantastic knife. It's not flashy but it does inspire confidence when using it as the steel seems really good, it arrived as the sharpest knife I've ever bought no joke it came scary sharp. Anyway, if you havent bought a BPS yet I highly recommend it because they dont break the bank.
I absolutely love my BPS Knives and the people there are really nice. Add to it that supporting some people going through a rough time in Ukraine right now in 2022, they really are great to have. My HK5, Adventurer, and other models are all razor sharp and have held up. I still love my Mora knives though.
I bought the BPS HK5. About $30. Dangler sheath. Recessed screws. Similar features as the ones you reviewed. 90° spine. Carbon steel. RAZOR SHARP. Wooden scales. Excellent knife. I forced a patina on mine. Nice dark gray.
I have both of the BPS knives and love them for bushcraft. Great truck knife and belt knife. Strong and sturdy. Had a guy borrow one and chipped the blade hacking into a steel post (knife slipped) only took 45 minutes on a quad stone to fix it like new. It takes an edge quickly and holds it as long as I don't abuse it. Great video.
Stainless steel Adventurer is now $55
I bought this small full tang knife along with the bps HK1S and I use these more than I use my Gerber principle.
Thank you from Ukrainian knife fan!
Looks like you nailed to comparison. Also thx for always leading us to smart buys
I have a couple of BPS knives and they are great, the sheaths are amazing for the price point.
I own a couple of the BS3FTS model knives and love them and would love to get the BS2FTS as well. I like the ruggedness of the "unfinished" scales and the vintage feel. My knives arrived extremely sharp. I agree that one should have both Moras and these.
BPS sells nice leather sheaths as well. There is a nice sheath that fits the Condor Terrasaur, Becker BK16, and Mora Garberg... get one! Another sheath fits the Mora Companion. These sheaths are very nice quality for the money.
I like the full-tang. The standard Mora Companion is better for food prep and I like the BPS knife for doing bushcrafty things.
definitivly a good makers of knives !!
I recently purchased 8 bps knives, unfortunately had a major surgery and can’t properly test them out yet. But I will say for the price and how they fit my hand , if they survive testing, they may just become my new favorites. Time will tell.
Have you got around to testing them yet?
@@coryburnett9470 I have… working on editing videos ( not for shorts) and here is my overall opinion..I absolutely love these knives. After doing everything a bushcrafter, woodsman does with a knife. These excell. What some will say is a drawback is the 1066 steel. And I will be brutally honest about that. These are easy to touch up and strop, and for the amount of use I have put them through, that would be expected from just about any knife. And they touch up quick. Much faster and easier than any harder steel or special alloy or ss. I am sold. I carry one every day. One of their neck knives, and if out somewhere nice they fit nice in front pocket. All the belt knives of theirs I rotate when I’m the field. And I usually can’t chose one lol.
Thats awesome, I have one coming in the mail, it's arriving tomorrow so thank you for getting back to me and giving some details, im looking forward to putting it to use
@@coryburnett9470 which one did you order?
The hk1s, I really like the looks of it and I do a fair amount of hunting/camping so I think it'll serve its purpose well
I love budget stuff like this. Definitely gonna check them out
Great companion w/old hickory...&my two little grand guys got'em coming in a few years
I am big into bushcraft and I have been using the same bps for a while and It has held up through everything
Great comprehensive review 👍
Wow a fantastic budget option for sure. I love Morakniv, these will be interesting to try out. The quality sheath alone looks like it’ll be worth the money.
After I watched your video I ordered this knife from Amazon. 21.00 USD free shipping. I had an old Hickory Knife for years that I modified for camping and all types of abuse using it as a chisel etc. The Old Hickory Knives are cheap and thick for modification, I purchased the Knife you demonstrated because of the leather sheath. Another tool that is good to modify and is the multi-tool it's a painters tool but with a tang, through type; a handle can be changed. GREAT VIDEO thank you I have been wanting a good woodsman type knife.
The sheaths are amazing. The more recent ones are better finished.
i Bought the camper version (HK1S I believe) love the subtle yet nice way the blade drops about 1/2 inc. from handle to tip. outstanding blade🦉
I think these have some pluses that Moras just don't have, like full tangs, 90 degree spines, leather sheathes, etc.. But they do seem to be a little bit more of the home made side. I think if someone has tools, they could finish these and really make these knives pretty sweet for the price point.
Thanks for the review. Looks like a great little bushcraft knife I could pimp out & personalize w/ some woodburning or epoxy inlay for some fun in shop.
ThanQ for filming
I have the first version . I bought one for my daughter and my 12-year-old grandson we use them for our grilling knives . I myself have the old hickory 5 inch now for grilling. No need for a full tang on them knives for me.
I like the leather sheaths.
I love the full tang one.
Nice info, thanks for showing the full tang, off to amazon to order
Very good video. Thanks for the work you do brother.
Those are pretty nice little knives. I’d def buy and knowing there not mane in CHY-NA. Thanks Aaron enjoy your weekend brother
These knives are awesome. Buy the full tang ones. Mora knives are great but you'll love these things.
I prefer the look of wood and leather
I love bps knives I have there woodlore with fero rod. A great full tang drop point.
I don't really do bushcraft but I've got a brushy yard and this sort of knife is handy for stuff that's too big for the hedge clipper and too small for a lopper. They look nicer than the Ontarios generally, I have to say. Good option to know about. They have a flat grind called a Savage with bog oak scales and a sheath with a dangler for $35 if anyone's interested.
Thanks for the information. Take care.
High carbon steel w/ leather sheath @ great price point imo hard 2 beat
Very cool, thank you.
Excellent video!
I like it. Thanks for the review. 👍
This is a very helpful review. I’m going to check these knives out. Who doesn’t have a Mora. This is a nice alternative with a more traditional handle. Nice.
Mora also has some nice wooden handle knives as well
Much cheaper than the mora full tang
Thanks for the video. While doing research I found your vid, it sold me on BPS. Full tang, wood handle, well made leather sheath, decent carbon, and a 90 degree spine, all at a doable price? Sold! At amazon looking for the BS3FTS I came across the Adventurer with a 5 -1/3" blade and ferro rod. It will be mine.
I own a BS1S. Payed 15 bucks for it. I'd compare it to the Mora companion. Good camp knife. It's no Garberg for sure but good for light duty camp utility. The leather sheath was tops
Okay, I've had my BS1FTS knife for about two weeks now, and its not a bad little knife, except. First time I used it to cut a chicken leg off of a chicken thigh, the edge rolled. Not a huge problem, I have a Ken Onion Work Sharp. I think it was just over sharpened. Second, sheath was a bit tight, so I treated it with Boiled Linseed Oil, now the knife fits perfect. Lastly, I took the handle scales off yesterday, the 14th, you will need a metric Allan wrench. And I found Rust under the handle scales. I took a sanding sponge, and cleaned that up. So if you have any of the BPS knives, please, take the handle scales off, and check for rust.
Very good channel!
I have 8 models of their knives, and all are full tang except one. Check out the different ones on Amazon. There are one of the very best knives for the money out there.
These guys have a few other models as well, some bigger than these, and they have their own site where their stuff can be purchased.
I believe they're fitting the Ukraine soldiers with their knives.
I just ordered one the other day, called the Adventurer, prices have increased a bit since the time of this vid but still very reasonable.
Awesome video
Just wondering, why would you choose mora? BPS bs3 is higher hardness (59-60 hrc), wood handles, leather sheaths for just 3 dollars more than a companion hd.
Rockwell 56-57? I've never seen anyone nail it to an exact number like that! Thats quite an accomplishment. Not many companies in America can heat treat that accurately
Thanks I looked this up
Any chance you could review the barebones field knife and hori hori from REI
Anyone else giggle every time he said tang, or am I just that juvenile? Never mind. Great video. Been wondering about these.
I've been looking at these knives since you reviewed the stick tang. I like the looks but I love the grip and simplicity of my Moras. Even though they aren't full tang I have beaten the tar out of them and have never had a failure. I finished the work with my thin stainless Mora that broke the tip of that SRK. No problem for it.
I like my mora's too, but it's nice to have a bit of variety to play with. The reason people have more than 1 mora is that no knife is perfect.
that's because full tang doesn't matter. What matters is how strong the tang is where it enters the handle
@@escapetherace1943 full tang is inherently stronger
@@donjuanmckenzie4897 no it really isn't.
Just extra dead weight. 3/4 tang is just as strong
The gerber edict is my everyday carry. 154cm! Yeeeeeee
What chest pack are you wearing?
I have a mora robust.... But I'ma pick one of these up, thanks for the review.
Great video thanks. Like the option of wood scales and leather sheath on BPS. Great to have anouther budget friendly option like you can get with mora. Plus if it help Ukraine during the hard times they are dealing with I am cool with not buying USA all the time.
It's not that there is an unfinished lip on the wood scales. Wood expands and contracts with humidity. It's the main problem with wood scales on full tang knives.
This knives good to pick roots in mozambican savannah.
Aaron you make some great videos thank you for updating I love Full Tang knives that's the only kind of Buy thank you for sharing keep up the good work I subscribe to your Channel please let me know about the Perkins survival knife with Walnut handles 7 inch blade supposed to be powder coated
i love the one i got ! it cost a lil more . but its a great knife for around $39 . sharp AF !
Aron very nice review , Ukranien knifes nice prize, nice steel 👌👍⚠️
Good review as always. Does that polish look as good in person as it does on on camera?
Does it matter? Being high carbon it will patina in time.
Hello. Have you seen news of year : cold steel srk compact and condor bush glider ?
BPS knives punch well above their weight ...... they cost little yet perform like blades 3 times the price. Extremely good quality for the money.
56 -57 for the cheapere one , but the mora like one is hardened to 59-60
I've always considered tang very important. In fact, the more tang the better.
I've just bought a BS3 FTS in the UK and.... I love it.
This is the knife Morakniv should have made. Unlike yours, the fit and finish is perfect... razor sharp out of the box and handle scales that perfectly match up with the tang.
Full marks to BPS for both quality and price 👍
What are the laws on fixed blades over there? I suprized that they're fine with a fixed blade but you can carry a Leatherman.
@@BassMaster.454 in the UK the only knives we can legally carry as an EDC item in public places would be a folding knife with a non locking blade that has a blade length of under 3 inches. Lock knives and fixed blades can legally be carried in public in certain circumstances .... but you must have VERY good reason for it such as partaking in an organised historical re-enactment or if it is issued as part of your work equipment for your job ... even then it would be extremely unadvisable to go wandering about a shopping center or into a pub or club whilst carrying something 'non legal EDC'. Certain knives are totally banned from ownership here .. gravity knives, any kind of sprung assisted opening knives, butterfly knives / balisongs, concealed blades, push daggers and even knuckle dusters are all illegal to own in the UK.
Can you use this with a flint to strike a spark? Wasn’t sure if 1066 carbon would do it?
The thing about the second knife is that only real reason it's not a Mora is where it's made. Morakniv is like Cognac or champagne. The design isn't anything special, it was just made popular by various cutleries in Mora, Dalarna. It wasn't until a bunch of the cutleries incorporated under the name "Morakniv" that it was even possible to get the exact same knife mass produced. And now, because of that, the quality of moraknivs has declined drastically.
So this second knife, the only thing that keeps it from *being* a Morakniv is the fact that it was made 2500km to the south. It's a "sparkling wine", or "French style brandy", where it's literally the exact same knife (if anything, they actually seem to be made the same way as the original pre-incorporation morakniv), it was just made outside of the area that makes it a true Morakniv.
Really enjoyed the review! just subbed. By the way, is the Mora HD full tang?
No. Mora Garberg is the only one with full tang.
You ever get your hands on the BS2FT? It's an inch bigger in the blade and handle than it's little brother you showcase in this vid. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like an amazing budget contender for a modern day kephart knife.
Which of the two is better in your opinion? I’d like to own both but I’m afraid not. So BS1 or BS3 ?? Thanks
Nice natural wood, looks like a quality leather sheath... And anything NOT made in China is a bonus.
Good for kids as a starter, made in where?
I like the sheaths only
How could you not show the king of budget Scandi knives; Marttiini knives made in Finland! They are sharper than Mora knives, more ergonomic and better looking than Moras also! They come with a nice cast metal finger guard on many models and a handsome leather sheath! You've got to check them out!
So what do you think of the durability of the cold steel finn hawk, Marttini condor timberjack, as compared to the Mora companion HD? Something different, orange Mora 2000 can be picked up for 25 dollars.
Thomas Maloney all great options
Thomas Maloney Martini...
One appears to be a copy of the Mora the other looks like the Ontario bushcraft field knife
Lol I ordered these the other day as well. Coronashopping at its finest. I'm still waiting for them to get here though.
Did you get 'em, yet???
Kizlyar supreme fixed blades?
Own both a Mora companion and several BPS knives...honestly prefer the BPS knives...in my opinion the plastic and rubber is just hideous and I prefer leather and wood....things like wood, leather, canvas, black powder, and animal skins just overall enhance the bushcraft experience.
Very true .. Tired of plastic ..
Could you flip the sheath to use left handed?
I'll let you know tomorrow lol
Do you like the Gerber Principle over a Mora though?
Tabitha Joshua it’s hard to beat the value of a mora, I would put it this way. I like the Gerber over the other 3.5” smaller moras, but for the money the Garberg is a better choice will longer blade and better edge retention for $15 more.
Funny, I was just sharpening my Condor which I have been happy with, but I wouldn't buy one for what I see them going for now. I will pick up one of these little guys though (The smaller one). I happen to be a big fan of almost anything from Ukraine. Not a fan of plastics.
Wont bust the bank.its good.i just love mora the most.?allways in my pack on my hip.
They should work on their website. There is only 4 models there and no specification at all. Wish to buy one as I'm visiting Ukraine two times a year.
Made in the Ukraine.
Do you have a Geiger counter with your Chernobyl knife? Make a video
I’m still going to get all their full tang knives though...too good of a deal to pass up.
i dropped mine at nite and it glowed,, though it was just some coating,, never gave a thought about it being radioactive
Neve hit a knife if not full tang the vibration crack handle every time
Looks better then the mora for the price
Its great to have a full tang at that price... #Mora? Why is yours so pricey?
The bevels seem to be even on the BPS knives but I have found that is not the case with Moras if that matters to anyone. As a matter of fact many US factories do not get the bevels even on both sides. Why can the Ukrainians do it and we can’t?
It seem that americans and europeans have different quality standards and expectations,
i was told by two german shop owners that the number of refunds on american made knives is substantially higher than on other knives in similar price range on average.
How is this not a complete knockoff of Mora design? Also Kephart, was it?
